Big Game Beer Run Breakup by Maine's Coast 93.1
The death of a 39-year-old mother of three, Autumn Ray Christiansen Mercado, has raised suspicions in West Jordan, a southern suburb of Salt Lake City. While police have yet to file charges in connection with her death, her husband, Carlos Mercado, is now facing legal consequences for his actions after the fact. On January 13, 2025, Autumn Mercado was found deceased at the bottom of the stairs in her home on Iron Core Lane. Police were called for a welfare check after a coworker reported not being able to contact her for an extended period of time. Authorities were informed that Mercado had a history of domestic violence. When officers arrived at the residence, they immediately found signs of foul play. Carlos Mercado, 47, was taken into custody for questioning after he reportedly answered the door and claimed he had just been about to call police. However, officers found multiple open alcohol containers in the house, and Mercado appeared intoxicated, struggling to maintain his balance. According to a probable cause affidavit, Mercado told police that he and his wife had been drinking the night before and that he fell asleep around 4 or 5 a.m. Upon waking up the next morning, Mercado allegedly thought his wife was simply asleep at the foot of the stairs. He claimed he tried to wake her but was unable to, covered her with a blanket, and then went out to buy more beer, leaving the couple's two young children, aged 1 and 4, alone at the house. The affidavit also noted that Mercado's wife showed signs of rigor mortis, indicating she had been deceased for hours before he reportedly discovered her body. Surveillance footage from a nearby gas station showed Mercado shopping approximately an hour after he claimed to have noticed his wife's body. Carlos Mercado now faces charges for one count of failure to report a death and two counts of child abandonment. The couple's children are now in safe custody, according to West Jordan Police Sgt. Andrew Hercules. The investigation into Autumn Mercado's death continues, as authorities look deeper into the circumstances surrounding her tragic passing. In 2015, I suffered from poor Type 1 diabetes control which lead me to become legally blind for almost a year. The doctors didn't give me much hope, predicting an 80% chance that I would never see again. But I refused to give up and changed my lifestyle drastically. Through sheer willpower (and an amazing eye surgeon) I beat the odds and regained my vision. During that difficult time, I couldn't read or write, which was devastating as they had always been a source of comfort for me since childhood. However, my wife took me to the local library where she read out the titles of audiobooks to me. I selected some of my favorite books, such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and more, and the audiobooks brought these stories to life in a way I had never experienced before. They helped me through the darkest period of my life and I fell in love with audiobooks. Once I regained my vision, I decided to pursue a career as an audiobook narrator instead of a writer. That's why I created Tall Tale TV, to support aspiring authors in the writing communities that I had grown to love before my ordeal. My goal was to help them promote their work by providing a promotional audio short story that showcases their writing skills to readers. They say the strongest form of advertising is word of mouth, so I offer a platform for readers to share these videos and help spread the word about these talented writers. Good morning, I'm running solo in the rain, about halfway into my route, and I decided to go audio-only since the rain would mess up the camera lens. Today, I'm headed to Borden Mercantile to buy some wheat for brewing a pale wheat beer. I've already got the hops and barley, but I'll be sneaky because they don't usually sell grains for human consumption. My run is around 4 kilometers, and my pace is improving on the downhill despite the wet shoes. Now, I'm nearing the mercantile and wrapping up the run – thanks for joining me in the rain!
