Connie's motivational quote for today is by – Pierre Omidyar, “We have the technology, finally, that for the first time in human history allows people to really maintain rich connections with much larger numbers of people.” YouTube: https://youtu.be/flJ6r2ApTEg Check Out These Highlights: Have you ever gotten a great idea for a new program, spent a few months putting together the sales page and recorded professional videos, and gotten a ho-hum response when you launched? You may have then identified your smallish email list as the problem and set about fixing that, but what if you could successfully launch no matter the size of your list? What if your likely prospects could tell you exactly the problem, they want you to solve and exactly how to describe your program? That's possible if you take the time to build a list of likely prospects from your existing network, host research calls, and validate your big idea with a pilot program. Doing so will save you money, time, and effort - and likely lead to some unexpected opportunities. Stay tuned to the end of the interview where I'll give you some actionable insights that I learned from my guest. These insights are also in the show notes. As always, thanks for listening. Now on to my guest for today, Robbie Samuels, networking and virtual event expert, podcast host, community creator, and author of Croissants vs. Bagels: Strategic, Effective, and Inclusive Networking at Conferences and Small List, Big Results: Launch a Successful Offer No Matter the Size of Your Email List. Robbie Samuels started out working in nonprofits and developing expertise in networking. He wrote his first book, launched a group coaching program and podcast, and was a TedX speaker. His specialty was helping people with their networking skills at conferences. So when COVID hit, he had to do some major rethinking. The question he asked was: “How do I show up and add value?” His answer was to become skilled in hosting virtual events and doing virtual networking. He launched the free virtual #NoMoreBadZoom networking happy hour and soon was being called upon to help organizations host and facilitate virtual events with a focus on increasing engagement and participation. From there, his business really took off. His second book, Small List, Big Results, is based on his experiences building a business and helping others do so, too. Robbie explains how his vision of being of service is key to business-building and networking and how it's helped him to succeed. Now, let's get better together. Actionable Insights Robbie says that the pandemic enabled him and other entrepreneurs to try things out without worrying too much about failing, because “nobody else was looking.” Consider how this might apply to your own ventures. What would you do if nobody else was looking? Robbie explains his marketing strategy as being “anti-funnel” in that he offers a variety of programs that allow people to get value when and where they are ready to do so. The cost of a lower-tier program can be applied to a higher-tier program, if the customer decides it's right. If not, that's fine with him. Building trust in relationships is paramount. Talk to and learn from the people you are trying to serve. Do your research and ask questions while you're in the process of building your service or product. Don't just build it and expect people to come. 76% of people say networking is the top driver for attending an event, but the amount that have a plan to achieve that goal is much smaller. With many events having moved to a digital platform, networking has become harder - and yet, even more critical to success. To help understand the problem, and find some answers, we've invited Robbie Samuels to join us. Robbie is a networking expert, consultant, and advisor. He is also the author of Croissants vs. Bagels: Strategic, Effective, and Inclusive Networking at Conferences and Small List, Big Results: Launch a Successful Offer No Matter the Size of Your Email List, plus, he is the host of the podcast On The Schmooze. The arrival of the pandemic meant the end of in-person conferences, but as restrictions are loosening, we are starting to see these events return. We discuss what the post-pandemic conference scene will look like. Robbie explains that there is still great importance for in-person events, but they will have to be more thoughtful and meaningful than ever before. We also discuss the undeniable value of virtual events. Robbie explains that many of the tricks of the trade used by keynote speakers in person simply don't work on a small screen. He compares in-person speaking to a theatrical performance, and virtual events to a television show, where production and delivery is very different. Robbie gives examples to help speakers make changes to their delivery and connect with the audience in either style. Lastly, we discuss how the virtual environment has changed business models. No longer can keynote speakers rely solely on big conference gigs. Robbie discusses the diverse platform you need to deliver content, and how you can continue to provide in-person value - digitally! Robbie has a special offer for our listeners! Click HERE to get The Big Results Toolkit for Free! Three Key Takeaways: Thought Leaders need to have a clear plan to achieve networking goals at both in-person and virtual events. When delivering thought leadership content virtually, consider changing the pace every seven minutes to keep the audience engaged. Don't rely too much on one method of income for thought leadership. By diversifying your business model, you'll increase revenue and protect yourself from future disruptions.

Robbie is the host of the On the Schmooze podcast and #NoMoreBadZoom Virtual Happy Hours. Most passionate about I have multiple tracks in my business. I do one-on-one coaching, group programs, all about helping people build an audience before they try to launch an offer. I also work with my virtual event clients on bringing their events online with less stress and greater participant engagement. What had been somewhat dormant, but is just starting to come back, is working with organizations around their in-person events to help them become more engaging and to really support their participants through what, for many, is their first experience at an in-person event. Robbie's career and story I spent 15 years organizing fundraising events and doing major gift work. On the side, I started speaking and showing people how to network. I was working with boards of directors and foundations. I did both of those things for about five years. Eventually, I realized that there was a possible career in doing this full-time. In 2015, I left my comfortable and safe career to really see if this thing I'd been doing for five years was going to turn into something. That's when I decided to launch a podcast, which came out a year later. I launched my first book, which today has 191 reviews on Amazon. I then got a chance to do a TEDx. Every year, I had different opportunities. I was well on my way to being an overnight success, 10 years in the making, when everything got upended in March 2020. Best advice for entrepreneurs My second book is called Small List, Big Results: Launch a Successful Offer No Matter the Size of Your Email List. That subtitle belies the fact that, a lot of times, as entrepreneurs, as experts, we get really excited about some kind of solution, some kind of offer. We get some kind of program offer—an online course app, whatever the modality is. And we rush out to market to tell people about it. The marketplace basically responds with “Who are you? What is this? Nope, I don't need this.” And we're just shocked. I think the better approach would be to not create solutions in a vacuum, but to invite input from your most likely prospects. The biggest, most critical failure with customers I mentioned this in my latest book. When my first book came out, I didn't have a very clear plan for what kind of offer would come from it. But I had a pilot in mind, and I did run a successful pilot. I got great feedback. When I went to sell the next iteration, I created a landing page and took video testimonials and written testimonials from the few people who'd gone through the initial pilot. I had 250 people view the landing page. But they did not contact me to learn more about the program. So, the problem wasn't my ability to get the word out. But in that same span of time, several people reached out to me, asking for other types of services and other types of support. That was when I really started to understand that the packaging wasn't matching. People were seeing me as a resource, but they didn't see the program as a solution. Biggest success with customers

Today's interview is a bit of an experiment as we met for a live interview that was streamed to LinkedIn and Facebook. This was the first of a series of conversations I'm having with entrepreneurs who read my latest book, “Small List, Big Results: Launch a Successful Offer No Matter the Size of Your Email List” to find out how they're implementing the strategies in the book to grow their business. We dig into what mindset junk came up while reading, what aha! moments they experienced, and what steps they are now committed to taking. My first guest in this series has had access to this material for longer than anyone else and her feedback along the way has helped me shape the book's content and how it was marketed. She has been supporting my business in a wide variety of ways since February 2020, which means she has had a front-row seat to the wild journey I've been on over the last 20 months. Please join me in welcoming my assistant, Peya Robbins. In this episode we discuss: her thoughts on Robbie's new books and why she believes it's a quick read that took her a long time to read. her very visceral responses to some of the contents of the book and how that fueled new ideas for her. the importance of having a support system when being an entrepreneur. the headtrash of being an entrepreneur. discovering that her network she needed to workshop ideas with already existed. why people do not ask for help or take advice. the behind the scenes on launching Robbie's newest book. the real reason for an email list. the implementation of the Big Results Toolkit. her daily morning habit of asking herself “How will I complicate my day today?” Listen, subscribe and read show notes at www.OnTheSchmooze.com.
Why do some idea and initiatives sizzle while others stall? It may have less to do with the concept and more to do with the method, says Robbie Samuels, author of "Small List, Big Results" and an industry leader in networking and digital event design. In this episode, Robbie explains why so many launch strategies are backward, why we need to build support before bringing a solution, and how the process of co-creation can lead to better ideas and results. Whether you're an entrepreneur or intrapreneur, this episode will help you convince and convert -- and will provide a roadmap to help you work your network. * * * ABOUT ROBBIE: Robbie Samuels is an author, speaker, and business growth strategy coach recognized as a networking expert by Harvard Business Review, Forbes, Lifehacker, and Inc. In this episode, I have the privilege of introducing you to my friend and fellow Evolutionary Business Council member, Rodney Flowers. Despite a challenging recovery process over 18 years to regain his ability to walk, Rodney is all about making a positive impact on the world. Today, Rodney is an internationally respected speaker, thought leader, and 3-time bestselling author who helps others overcome life's challenges to maximize success. Rodney offers us nine incredible “fun nuggets” in our discussion all about resilience, including the idea that “Playing the game, however you play it, is a privilege.” Here are the fun nuggets from the interview: #1: Decide on what you want; then focus on it. #2: Ignite the small accomplishments (chunk it down). #3: The end game is not as important as the journey. #4: Excitement itself is a celebration. #5: Seek out life's challenges. #6: Resistance is an invitation to expand ourselves. #7: Resilience is about getting emotionally and spiritually fit. #8: Adversity is something we all have in common. #9: Playing the game, however you play it, is a privilege. Today's guest has launched a children's brand that inspires young minds. Today's guest is more like a cohost and we're going to dish about why I felt the need to write my newest book, “Small List, Big Results: Launch a Successful Offer No Matter the Size of Your Email List.” She's my book launch success manager and has been supporting my business over the last year as my systems and processes coach. We met while working at Mirasee and witnessed firsthand the many common mistakes entrepreneurs make when they're just getting started with their business or when they're ready to move from one-on-one coaching to group programs. What I love about working together is that she believes that the sensible and practical side of life meshes perfectly with the woo-woo side of life. As a heart-centered entrepreneur myself, I really appreciate her point of view. As the Chief Technology Therapist at Sensible Woo, she teaches highly sensitive & neuro-divergent online business owners how to replace technological chaos with a harmonious technology system. She is an accredited librarian with a Master of Science in Information and set the foundation of her career as the first digital archivist for Disney Animation Studios. Please join me in welcoming Mary Williams.
