Other than KGW sports director Scott Lynn, who mentored me, trained me and got me hired out of college-- Brenda Braxton and Dave Salesky are the most influential colleagues of my 31 years in TV news. After a series of anchor team combinations, we kind of fell together and became the top rated morning newscast in Portland. In our time together-- on that god-awful (yet family friendly) early morning shiftāwe all grew up, cared for each other, laughed and cried. In this conversation we talk about why the chemistry worked on and off the air, some of out struggles, our fond memories, and the difficult day when we were unexpectedly broken up. The opinions expressed about that decision are our ownānot each other's, but they are compelling, I think. I love these two like a brother and a sister, and I'm indebted to them for the most important eight years on my life in TV news.
*This episode is a re-air of a conversation that originally took place in 2018.* Brenda Braxton-(IG:@bbraxtonact2)(TW:@bbraxtonact2)(brendabraxton.com) talks about her career and life path. We discuss what brought her to creating an upscale barber shop while performing on broadwayĀ to writing her book (The Little Black Book of Backstage Etiquette) which is a great quick read everyone should check out. We cover dealing with rejection, living life, staying the course, and she breaks down the meaning of Diva among so much more! Brenda brings up some wonderfully insightful thoughts on life. Enjoy.

The icon that is Brenda Braxton joins Backstage Babble today to discuss her legendary career from replacing in the 1976 revival of Guys and Dolls all the way up to the pandamndemic (as she refers to it). Hear her talk about mass fainting during the filming of The Wiz, learning valuable lessons from Vinnette Carroll, spending her birthday with Tom Hanks, serenading Peter Allen, the moment when she realized she was becoming a cat, and the impetus and interviews for her amazing book The Little Black Book of Backstage Etiquette. Plus: Harvey Fierstein, Mike Nichols, Usher, George C. Wolfe, and more! Ms. Braxton was a total joy from start to finish, and her sparkling wit and charm never fail to come through.
