Here's my mix and the soundtrack to a very intimate NYE that was with some very special people. This absolutely ain't no disco, but as you would expect, there is some in a 5 hour Slave to the Vibe journey of a mix covering 3 decades of music from edits to disco, disco to house, house to tech and tech to techno and back again...lots of stuff you know, but maybe not the mixes you know, together with a sprinkling of funHope you have as much fun listening as we did on the nightThanks for all your support in 24 on the gigs I decided to play…which is very few these days

They say there's no business like show business and that's why we decided to have some guests from another show! This week we welcome Nathan Beaudry and John Mottola from the spectacular Deep Purple Podcast, and we have something for the boys that is really special. I'm not too bashful to brag that I got rhythm, maybe not good enough for Alexander's Ragtime Band, but with these special guests, I'm convinced everything's coming up roses. This week we review the 1979 Ethel Merman Disco Album. They say it's wonderful for some people, but for me Merms, I get a kick out of you! Donal Dineen has been a softly spoken giant of the Irish music scene since he helmed the hugely influential No Disco back in the 90s. His legendary radio shows on Today FM along with his collaborative DJ sets and events since have had an imeasurable impact on countless listeners and musicians alike. He joined Ed to discuss his predictably fascinating story and musical influences, his journey from Rathmore in Kerry to the life changing sounds of Africa and beyond. It's a great conversation and insight into one of the greatest music lovers of them all. Enjoy! If Donal inspires you to go and buy one of the records he mentions (or just one from your own Recorded History) then we'd love if you supported our partners at TheRecordHub.com. They've given us a 15% discount code to celebrate the launch of the show. Use TRHPod15 at TheRecordHub.com to avail of that offer.
PARKLIFE, SunshEEEine, and so forth. We're talking about the cultural juggernaut (for approximately five years) that was Britpop with Michael Orange aka Feather Beds. We talk about Blur v Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene deep cuts, and try to figure out if The Bends was Britpop. Along the way we take diversions into No Disco, 120 Minutes, and City Pop. Michael is @Feather_Beds. His new album Softer Measures is out May 26th. Alan is @alan_maguire. He does a bit of standup but Juvenalia is his main thing right now. Sarah is @griffski. Her books are in all good bookshops. Her newsletter is at griffnotes.ghost.io Thank you to Dee McDonnell for our artwork. We have a Patreon! You can get bonus episodes including our fortnightly show Started/Finished where we talk about the pop culture we've started and finished recently. We also have some free lil bits of merch. Unfortunately, we live in a world where anxiety and depression symptoms are often overlooked and considered “normal”. And while we're not here to talk about mental health, we want you to know that there is nothing func'ing normal about these symptoms; in fact, they might be a sign of something else going on with you. Confira as novidades no Instagram @morillo.carvalho. Ouve! Juro, tá emocionante! On this season 1 finale episode I am joined by The Real Housewives of After Midnight 3.0, which include Brenda Braxton, Leandra Ellis-Gaston, Asha-Brownie Gordon, Krystal Mackie, Iman Ayana Barnes, and Bria Williams. I had the pleasure of working with these beautiful ladies in the show After Midnight on the Norwegian Escape. So here is a little bit about each one: Ms. Brenda Braxton is an author, singer, dancer, Tony-nominated actress and native New Yorker. She originated the role of Brenda in Smokey Joe's Cafe and did double duty for some time running BBraxton's, a grooming salon for gentlemen, while in Chicago on Broadway. Mrs. Leandra Ellis-Gaston is an actress who hails from Columbia, South Carolina and now resides in New York City with her husband. She has toured with Beautiful:The Carole King Musical and made her broadway debut last year in Tina: The Tina Turner Musical. Ms. Asha Brownie-Gordon is a singer, actress, and occasional waitress/barista who is originally from Conyers, Georgia. She has worked at theme parks, on cruise ships, and in regional theatre for the last decade. Ms. Krystal Mackie is Brooklyn born and bred and is a dancer, singer, and teaching artist. She is an Alumni of LaGuardia High School and received her BFA from University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She made her Off-Broadway Debut in This Ain't No Disco and is currently in the 1st National Tour of Hamilton. Ms Iman Ayana Barnes is a performing artist rooted in dance and fitness. Starting in concert dance, she eventually crossed into the world of Musical Theatre doing productions of After Midnight, Oklahoma, and The Music Man. Dancing has always been her outlet of expression, joy, and fulfillment and finding these emotions in any performance opportunity is one of her main goals. She has now also started her own Youtube fitness channel.Ms Bria Williams is a dancer who hails from Baltimore, Maryland. She made her Broadway debut in Mean Girls and was the principal Duval Understudy. She also has a passion for interior design and has been finding ways to use those skills as well. Flopou! Motivo? Princesa do rock: temos demais! Rainha do rock? Temos! This week joining our new Awesome host and Filmmaker Mia Mullarkey for a very special chat is Filmmaker Myles O'Reilly. Fni Wrapchat is mixed by Bedford, Produced by the Headstuff Podcast Network and Sponsored by Film Equipment hire and Wildcard Distribution. Myles O'Reilly is a musician, composer and filmmaker from Dublin, Ireland. Since first lifting a camera in 2010, multi tasking O'Reilly has filmed, directed and edited over 100 music video promo's and 20+ music documentaries of Irish musicians at home and abroad, some of which include Glen Hansard, Villagers, Imelda May, Lisa O'Neill, Ye Vagabonds, Sinead O'Connor and Lisa Hannigan alongside other International artists such as Hollywood sound track virtuoso Ernst Reijseger, Icelandic artists Soléy, Múm and Amiina, US soul phenomenon Janelle Monae and UK folk trio The Staves. Early life as a working musician began for Myles in 2003 with the band Juno Falls. Signed for two albums by Sony UK and then V2 records, Juno Falls disbanded in 2010. Ten years later and in a global pandemic lockdown, Myles returned to making music and has since composed, recorded and released a plethora of works in the ‘ambient' music genre under the moniker Indistinct chatter. Since beginning a Pateron account in 2018 enabling followers to fund his film projects, O'Reilly's camera lens is increasingly more focused on discovering and supporting little-known emerging artists, to help “represent some of the most talented but hard to pigeonhole musical visionaries in Ireland today”. Now almost a full time vocation, his efforts to seek out and endorse new music extends to the curation of an annual rising-artist stage at the renown Body&Soul festival, and the production of a critically acclaimed web series This Ain't No Disco, co-created with eminent Irish broadcaster Donal Dineen of ‘No Disco' fame. Today my guest is Leagues O'Toole, whose main gig right now is as a promoter with Aiken Promotions. Chances are you've been to one of his gigs at some point, and we start by discussing US comedians, like Marc Maron and Anthony Jesselnik, who have played in Dublin in recent times. Leagues is also a writer, so there's chat about how he got started by writing reviews for the Dublin Event Guide, and the magazine he created called Foggy Notions. We touch on his time as the somewhat reluctant presenter of No Disco, the challenges in putting on gigs, finding new acts, getting them the coverage they need to sell tickets, his book and documentary about the legendary Planxty, and loads more. You can follow him on Twitter @foggynotions where he sometimes takes requests about which acts to bring over.
On this week's show I chat with Donal Dineen who first came to prominence on the seminal music video show No Disco on RTE 2. He moved from there into radio, finding himself at the helm of two hugely influential shows. Firstly, Here Comes The Night on Radio Ireland, and Small Hours on Today FM. Donal chats about how life as the 'psychedelic black sheep' of the family fuelled his desire to move to the bright lights; how a kindly person insisted that a life in the civil service was not for him and pushed him into a more creative sphere; the effect that the sudden death of his father had on his life and his outlook; his love for radio, telling stories via music and pictures; and how the commercial interests of radio stations have left him bitter about the state of the industry. It's a fantastic and open conversation with a man who helped define a particular style of music radio and whose influence has been unmatched since. You can follow Donal Dineen on Twitter @dineensparish
