Weekend Gwiazd NBA zakończony, wracamy więc do ligowego grania. Zanim to jednak nastąpi, podsumowujemy wydarzenia związane z tegorocznym All-Star Game i sprawdzamy, jak nam poszło typowanie zwycięzców konkursów. Wybieramy też nasz ulubiony Mecz Gwiazd w historii. Przy okazji zastanawiamy się, czy pewne rozwiązane z przeszłości z bejsbolowej MLB dałoby się przenieść do NBA. Głównym tematem tego odcinka naszego podcastu jest jednak wielopozycyjność. Współczesna koszykówka powoli zapomina o klasycznym zestawie pięciu pozycji, a coraz większe znaczenie mają gracze wszechstronni i systemy gry premiujące takowych. Augustin, Michael Carter-Williams i Enes Kanter Freedom. Nie zabraknie też pytań od słuchaczy!

Okay so here's how I look at this trade deadline. We got rid of Bol Bol and PJ Dozier who likely would never have played a game for us. We got rid of Bruno who never played and we got rid of Freedom who was a massive defensive liability and has already been waived. We basically swapped second round picks with the Magic which is most likely a win because they're worse than us lol. Now it's time to break down the meat of the trade. We traded Josh Richardson, Dennis Schroder and a 2022 1st round pick for Derrick White and Daniel Theis. What are the two things that we have been needing all year long? A pass first PG and depth at the Center position because Freedom was bad. That is exactly what we got in return. I HATE getting rid of Josh Richardson today but overall, I love our return. Although some people disagree with this, Schroder being traded makes sense because we know there wasn't a path to keeping him so you might as well bring something of value back for him and that is exactly what Brad did. Daniel Theis now slots into your backup big role and gives you great depth at that position while also being able to stretch the floor better than both Rob and Al are doing currently. The addition of Derrick White is great. Similar to Smart, he is a pitbull defensively and is a combo guard meaning he can slot in at the PG or SG spot because of being 6'4". He is a great facilitator and is also hitting corner threes at a 48% rate this season which is excellent. Another interesting part to this Trade Deadline is the fact that the Celtics opened up 5 different roster spots. I fully expect Sam Hauser to take on of those spots who has averaged 21PPG in Maine on 48% from the field and 42% from 3. That still leaves 4 open roster spots so you can expect Brad to stay busy during the whole buyout market. DeAndre Bembry was just waived by the Nets who would be another great target for the Celtics. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/guy-deplacido/support

It's a packed Friday episode of Locked on Nets and Doug Norrie is breaking down some really encouraging signs for Brooklyn so far this season. The first is that the defense has been excellent, especially over the last six or so games. They now rank 4th in the league in terms of defensive efficiency and have been making gains at that end of the court. Some of it is the scheme, but it also has a lot to do with making sure one of Bruce Brown or DeAndre Bembry is on the court at all times. For a team that seems like it should be built on offense with Kevin Durant and James Harden, it's the defensive side of the ball that's winning.  Then there's a preview of Friday's matchup against the Pelicans. New Orleans is among the worst teams in the league this season and are coming in with a terrible record. The Nets should take care of business there and Doug gives a breakdown of what to expect.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

After HS, Dave continued his basketball career at Spring Garden College where he was a two-time honorable mention All-American. Upon graduating from Spring Garden College, Dave Duda began his coaching career as the top assistant to Naismith Hall of Fame coach Herb Magee, the all time winningest coach in NCAA Division 2 history at Philadelphia University. During Dave's seven seasons at Philadelphia University, the Rams had their most successful period in school history, and were the winningest Division II school in the country during with a 171-35 record, including a ridiculous 80 straight wins at home.  Dave then took his first head coaching job at Delaware Valley University.  Where he took over a team which had been 0-23, leading it to a 12-12 mark for the first non-losing season in 11 years. He earned the Freedom Conference Coach of the Year award in 1998. His career coaching record in 10 seasons is 159-99. Dave then was hired by hired as the head coach of Widener University. Under Head Coach Duda Widener enjoyed its greatest, when the team finished 23-6, won the Commonwealth Conference regular-season title and made the school's first NCAA Sweet 16 appearance since the mid 80's. Duda earned Coach of the Year honors for both the Commonwealth Conference and the NABC Mid-Atlantic Region. David Duda then reunited with Coach Phil Martelli and spent 13 seasons as head assistant coach for the Saint Joseph University Hawks. During his time at St. Joe's, the Hawks made three trips to the NCAA tournament, including 2 Atlantic Ten Championships. Dave also served as the program's lead recruiting coordinator and developed 12 all-conference players, including NBA players Langston Galloway and Deandre Bembry. Dave and I discuss what he learned from spending over 20 years with 2 legendary coaches, why leaders have to learn to put their ego's aside and learn the art of delegation and why the best leaders lead by inclusion. To close out hour one Willy P talks to Atlanta Hawks beat writer for the Athletic Chris Kirschner. Will starts off the interview by asking Chris how impressed he is with the Hawks on how they turned their roster around. Chris responds by saying that with the Hawks being able to turn guys like “Damien Jones, Deandre Bembry, Treveon Ghram, and Jeff Teague into Danilo Gallinari, Onyeka Okongwu, Bogdan Bogdanovic is very impressive.” Next, Will asks Chris how important the Bogdanovic signing was for the Hawks, and Chris responds by saying “It was the most important signing for the Hawks, and the Hawks have been looking for a guy like Bogdanovic since they drafted Trae Young. A guy who can be a secondary playmaker, create his own shot, shoot the three pointer, so this was the most important signing for the Hawks. Next, Will asks Chris about what the potential starting five could look like. Chris responds by saying “I know a lot of people get caught up in the starting five, but it doesn’t really matter, but if you ask me the starting five is Trae, Bogdanovic, Cam, Collins, and Capela. I know Gallinari signed a healthy contract, but at this point in his career he’s better suited coming off the bench. To continue the interview Nick asks what we might see Lloyd Pierce do schematically with this team. Nick responds by basically saying that it's going to be interesting how coach Pierce handles his lineups, but one area this team will likely focus on is defense because this team was “dreadful on that side of the court.” Chris also says that “The Bogdanovic and Gallinari signings don’t help you out in that are, and Rondo doesn’t help you out in that area even though some people have been confused saying he was a good defender in Boston which he was, but he’s not that player anymore. Kris Dunn however I believe is one of the best defensive players in the league.” Chris finishes his thought by basically saying the Hawks and coach Pierce “last year had about three guys they could depend on where as this year they have a complete roster.” Lastly, Nick closes things out by asking Chris what he thinks the future of John Collins is with the Hawks. Chris responds by saying that “I think the moves the Hawks made actually will help them get a deal done with Collins because their salary cap is tied up for 2020 and 2021 so I think they’ll be able to get a deal done whether it’s this year or next year.” See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On our last show the Celtics had just gotten arguably their biggest win of the season by defeating the Toronto Raptors. Since then the Celtics have played 4 games. The first saw them knock off the Memphis Grizzlies 122 to 116. Kyrie Irving score 38 points in total 5 Celtics got into double figures and the Celtics had 29 assists. The Celtics would then travel overnight to take on the Atlanta Hawks the next night in the 2nd night of a back to back. The Celtics would be without Gordon Hayward who was away for personal reasons. The Hawks coming off 3 days rest came out on fire against the Celtics taking a double digit lead and pretty much getting their way until midway through the 3rd quarter. Marcus Smart sparked a Celtics run before being ejected after an alercation with Hawks small forward Deandre Bembry. Smart appeared to throw a punch in Bembrys direction and had to be escorted off the floor by security, The Celtics would take the lead midway through the 4th and win it 113-105. 2 nights later the Celtics would host the Miami Heat. Before the game the NBA announced a $35,000 fine for Marcus Smart for his actions 2 nights earlier but Smart would not be suspended. For the 2nd straight matchup against the Heat the Celtics starting 5 dominated the Miami starters but the Celtics bench got dominated by the Miami bench. However despite the bench's struggles the Celtics starting 5 led the team to a 107-99 victory. 2 nights later the Celtics looked for its 5th win in a row as they hosted the Cavaliers. The Celtics would be without Kyrie Irving who was sick and Al Horford who was out due to rest. Terry Rozier and Aron Baynes filled in as starters. The Celtics started off slow but managed to pull away in the 3rd quarter in route to a 123-103 win. The Celtics now prepare to do battle with Steph Curry and the defending NBA Champion Golden State Warriors. We discuss the last 4 games and preview the showdown with the champs.
