This week Arnold from Fight Like an Animal joins us to talk about his new book Fight Like an Animal: Revolutionary Biology in Defense of Life. From the Publisher's Site: The stories we tell matter, especially when we aren't aware we're telling them, or how they shape our behavior. In Fight Like an Animal, Arnold Schroder argues that all modern conceptions of politics, from anarchism to fascism, exhibit a shared confusion. All are based on some form of the nature-nurture binary: the idea that human behavior is either biologically or socially-determined, and that the more it is biological, the less it is social. This idea is not simply wrong, but logically incoherent. We can only adapt to so many different kinds of society through a highly-structured biology, which we should seek to understand if we wish to find new ways of living. Based on decades of immersion in the environmental movement, Fight Like an Animal describes how largely-forgotten debates about human nature still have concrete impacts on political projects today. When we escape the confusion they cause, we can direct our attention to something that should be obvious: individual differences in political personality. Political personality is the core orientation to the world from which specific political behaviors and perceptions emerge. We must ask how different kinds of people shape societies in different ways, and how people are shaped, in turn, by the societies they create. Neither of these questions make sense in isolation: they are endlessly entangled. Using this integrative framework, Schroder offers simple, readily-accessible tools for conceiving of social change processes and crafting strategic initiatives, whether for a book club or a global revolution. Applying insights gained everywhere from oil refinery blockades to baboon stress hormone profiles, Fight Like an Animal is an earnest argument that, no matter how mired in darkness and confusion, the world can make sense. https://www.againsttheinternet.com/ https://severedbranchespress.com/

The Cavs NEEDED Game 5. They were down double digits... without Ingram... with a hampered Barnes, but they PULLED IT OFF. Who was the hero? DENNIS. SCHRODER. The mailbag is bursting with joy and concern as the Cavs have positioned themselves to close out the Raptors on the road this Friday.

In Bridgerton Season 4, Francesca Bridgerton stands in the middle of her husband's funeral and says something no one expects: “I want to feel joy.”Eighty years earlier and four thousand miles away, a D-Day veteran stood on Utah Beach watching children play in the water where his friends had died—and said something just as unexpected: “That's why we came.”In this episode of Documentary First: The Deep Dive, Christian Taylor connects these two moments to a discovery C.S. Lewis made in his grief journal A Grief Observed—and asks what it all means for the stories we tell as filmmakers. The answer surprised her. It might surprise you too. What You'll Learn:What 20+ D-Day veterans told filmmaker Jake Schroeder when he asked if it was disrespectful to play on the beaches where men diedThe C.S. Lewis line that connects grief, praise, and joy—and why filmmakers need to hear itHow Bridgerton Season 4, Episode 7 modeled a radically different response to lossG.K. Chesterton's 1908 concept that reframes everything: why joy might be bigger than the painChristian's challenge to filmmakers: What if we gave our audiences permission to dance? The Core Insight:C.S. Lewis noticed that his grief wasn't bringing him closer to his wife—it was cutting him off from her. Only in moments of least sorrow did she come rushing back, vivid and whole. He realized there are different modes of loving someone you've lost: grief focuses on the absence, but praise focuses on the fullness. And when love takes the form of praise, joy shows up inside it without being forced. That's what Francesca Bridgerton discovered at John's celebration of life. It's what Anthony Malin was doing when he watched children splash on Utah Beach and wept. Same love. Different mode.Plus:Christian's personal story of losing her mom and finding A Grief ObservedWhy the most powerful story we can tell might not be about the suffering—but about the moment afterHow The Girl Who Wore Freedom approaches joy in the soil soaked with bloodFeatured Guest:Jake Schroeder—Founder of the D-Day Leadership Academy, former professional musician and youth sports director. The Kings rematched the Blazers Saturday night and while the game was close, there was no spectacular or controversial ending. The Kings simply got outplayed, so on to the Rockets game the next night. And what a game it was, the Kings battled hard against the Rockets all night and sent the game to OT with a spectacular 3 pointer from Westbrook where they would win with a go-ahead 3 from Schroder in the final seconds. In both of these games, the Kings have leaned into a set lineup where they embrace the young players along with an interesting combo of veterans to stir the drink. It will be interesting to see how these things develop together as the season goes on.Use code SKT15 on checkout to get 15% off from HYVDesigns on Etsy during checkout or use this link: https://www.etsy.com/shop/hyvdesigns/?etsrc=sdt&coupon=SKT15Intro Music by Blue Dot Sessions. https://www.sessions.blueIf you want to email us: kingtherapypod@gmail.com
