NCUA Board Member Rodney Hood Announces at September Board meeting he will support Chairman Todd Harper on his initiatives coming up, including the 2024 Budget.Hours later President Joe Biden announces his intent to nominate Hood's replacement:U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) – Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs – released the following statement after the Biden Administration announced the nomination of Tanya Otsuka to be a member of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) board. Currently, Otsuka works for Chair Brown as Senior Counsel for the Senate Banking and Housing Committee.“Tanya Otsuka is an exceptional choice to serve as a National Credit Union Administration board member. As a public servant, Ms. Otsuka has dedicated her entire career to fighting for consumers, credit unions and other small financial institutions, and a strong financial system,” said Brown. “On the Banking and Housing Committee, she has earned a reputation as a respected leader, reliable teammate, and a trusted advisor. She will bring a fresh perspective and support for the President's work to build an economy centered on working families. If confirmed, she would be the first Asian American to serve on the NCUA Board in the agency's 53 year history. I fully support her historic nomination and urge my colleagues to do the same.”ALEXANDRIA, Va. (Sept. 21, 2023) – National Credit Union Administration Chairman Todd M. Harper issued a statement welcoming President Joseph R. Biden's nomination of Tanya Otsuka of Virginia to the NCUA Board:“Tanya Otsuka is a committed public servant and a well-qualified nominee to serve on the NCUA Board. Tanya's past work has strengthened the U.S. financial system, protected consumers, and advanced the ability of credit unions to innovate and compete. Tanya would also bring a different point of view to the work of the agency as the first Asian-American NCUA Board Member. If confirmed, I look forward to working with Tanya to protect the deposits of America's nearly 138 million credit union members and to expand access to safe, fair, and affordable financial services to under-resourced communities. I hope the Senate acts quickly on her nomination.”

June is Men's Health Month, and The Black Doctors Speak Podcast is bringing you an episode all about black men's health in America. Historically and currently, black men's health outcomes are poorer than those of other communities when it comes to life expectancy, morbidity, chronic illnesses and more. A common question that is raised regarding the health of black men is; is the black community responsible for their own poor health outcomes? Or is it the fault of systemic and institutional failures that black people lack the resources to adequately care for their health? These questions and many more will be addressed by the panel of experts in this episode of Black Doctors Speak. Today's first guest is Dr. Oliver Brooks, Past President of the National Medical Association (NMA), Chief Medical Officer at Watts Healthcare, and Medical Director for LA Care Health Plan. Also featured on this episode is Dr. Rodney Hood, who is another Past President of the NMA, an Internal Medical Specialist and Managing Partner of Care View Medical Group. These two experts join Dr. LeNoir and Mr. Ellis Dean of BlackDoctor.Org for a lively and informative discussion of all things related to black men's health! Dr. LeNoir kicks off the episode by discussing the current state of the COVID-19 pandemic as it relates to the Delta strain and it's growing dominance in the United States. The doctors discuss the two-fold importance of receiving the COVID vaccination. Not only are vaccinated people protecting their own health, but they are also protecting the health of their community, families and loved ones. The guests expand on this and why receiving your vaccine is so crucial, especially for members of the black community. Following the COVID-19 updates is a lively discussion on the big questions surrounding black men and health. The experts touch on topics such as food deserts, schooling and education, exercise and racism in healthcare, which can all impact black men's health outcomes. Additionally, they touch on some of the misconceptions that bad lifestyle choices are solely to blame for the poor health seen in the black male community. Tune in to this episode to stay updated on all of the relevant topics surrounding black men's health!

The Blazers got two good pieces of news Thursday. One, Jusuf Nurkic is back! He announced he'd be returning from injury Friday against the Orlando Magic. Second, Portland made a trade for one of the best shooting wings in the game, Norman Powell! The sad news? The Blazers had to trade Gary Trent Jr. and Rodney Hood to Toronto to make it happen. On this week's episode of KGW's 3-on-3 Blazers podcast, KGW sports anchor Orlando Sanchez and KGW producers Jared Cowley, Nate Hanson and Max Barr talk about the deal the Blazers made, the one they didn't (Aaron Gordon was traded to Denver instead) and what it all means for the team moving forward. They also discuss the return of Nurkic, make predictions for the next four games and play another stimulating game of Rip It! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Gary Trent Jr. is betting on himself, deciding to play out the season and enter restricted free agency instead of negotiating a contract extension. Plus, Rodney Hood is going to miss a Blazers preseason game and something has me excited for the Blazers getting back on the floor.Music for Locked On Blazers by Drae Slapz. 1:00 Icebreaker: Favorite shared sports memories 12:00 Really well thought out off-season. 13:00 Realistic expectations for Rodney Hood. Restricted minutes, brought back carefully. Be very cautious and don't let him overdo it. Need to have patience. 15:40 New personnel rebounding 16:30 Derrick Jones Jr is a really good team defender and communicator. Blazers are good on offense, they don't need another player who can shoot, an athletic wing provides new options. He's a good off-ball mover. 19:00 Who is going to throw him lobs? 21:45 Role for Gary Trent Jr? The bench is going to be fun. Does Gary finish games? He's so good at locking up the best player in one-on-one and he can shoot. 24:40 We are so ready for GTJ vs Luka Dončić. 26:00 You need a balanced lineup to compete and Gary brings nice balance. 26:45 Carmelo Anthony reaction. He will be a good release valve on the second unit and will do well if called on to start as well. 28:45 Melo for 6th man of the year award. Lets go ahead and sweep: Dame for MVP, Melo for 6th man, Gary for Most Improved, Covington for Defensive Player of the year. Yeah these realistic expectations are going great. 30:00 Other teams in the west didn't get that much better. 33:00 Enes Kanter returning made sense for all the teams involved. It was a good move for Celtics. 34:00 Where does this leave Zach Collins? 35:00 There are a lot of guys who are “known quantities”. 37:00 Harry Giles is a passing big, but he doesn't shoot 3, so he and Kanter probably won't be on the court together. 39:00 Coaching changes around the league. What is the deal with coaching super teams? 41:00 Evan Turner on the Celtics coaching staff 45:00 We're glad the Blazers get Christmas off! 47:00 Some former Blazers updates: Mason Plumlee is a good vet for Detroit, Wesley Matthews to the Lakers 51:00 How do we really feel about the Lakers? 52:00 Not getting caught up in the national media opinions. 53:00 Good luck to Hassan Whiteside. 56:00 We could not talk ourselves out of an exciting year for the Trail Blazers. 58:00 Greater Medford Multicultural Fair: check them out on Facebook! 1:55 Icebreaker: favorite moment from this year's draft. Payton Prichard getting drafted in the first round, Patrick William's florist mom, an abundance of graphic ts, athletes at home without a bunch of big cameras in their face. 6:30 Welcome Robert Lord Glovington Covington! On the same timeline as Damian Lillard, this is a win-now move. 9:30 Coach Stotts is excited and it seems like the chemistry is going to be great. Also, snakes and geckos! 10:30 Covington was a four year college player who was undrafted, it's cool to see someone create a place for themselves in the league. 13:00 Covington and Hood probably have a higher ceiling than Aminu and Harkless. 15:00 Was two second round picks too high of a price in the trade for Covington? 17:05 Welcome CJ Elleby! Coached by Ernie Kent. Comes from the Seattle area. Cassidy loves a lefty shooter. 20:00 Cassidy helped Tara who momentarily worried that Rodney Hood was leaving. 22:00 Neil Olshey said that Rodney Hood will be ready, but Zach Collins will not. 23:00 Jamie wasn't surprised when Carmelo Anthony re-signed in Portland. 25:00 Melo seemed like he had influence on younger players. Plus he still has buckets in him! 28:25 Cassidy is going to be the Derrick “Airplane Mode” Jones Jr defender. We could have someone who is a Slam Dunk Champion while playing in Portland! 31:00 DJJ's first interview. 35:05 Welcome Harry Giles! Is there a second wave of Blazers forming behind Dame and CJ? He is a clever passer, there is going to be some fun passing. Kings fans were not happy which should make us pretty happy. 39:50 Dynasty definition for those who were wondering. 41:00 Concerns leading into next season. Injuries are always a concern. 42:15 Interlude: Is Enes Kanter the Danny Zuko of the Trail Blazers? 43:00 How ready is Anfernee Simons? We will see but the Blazers believe in him so we do too! 46:00 Anfernee Simons put in a lot of work this summer. Gary Trent Jr did a lot of homework last summer and Simons maybe took a page from his book. 47:00 Wish there were a few more facilitators in the second unit. 50:00 What will Jamie's job in the media be like when the season starts up? 53:00 Recommended by the WHAT podcast: Gary Trent Jr. and Jordan Bolton: A basketball bond that will last forever by Jamie Hudson Thank you for listening to the WHAT podcast! In this episode I share my notes on Denver's loss to the Portland Trail Blazers in game 6 of the Western Conference Semifinals. Aminu and Harkless played fewer minutes while Rodney Hood went scorched Earth on Denver's wings. The 2nd unit fumbled a lead (again) thanks to an off night from Paul Millsap. And the Nuggets' offensive rhythm fell off in the 2nd half. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
