In the latter half of the 2010s, hollywood invented an idea called 'feminism'. What 'Feminism' consisted of was making new movies from studio-owned IPs, cast of entirely women. One example of this phenomenon is 'Ocean's 8', a movie about Danny Ocean's sister Debbie Ocean doing a girl heist for girl riches. For some reason we spoke about this for two full hours. ----- FREE PALESTINE Hey, Devon here. För som alla vet, THE SHOW MUST GO ON!

It's a retro flashback episode full of 80s cheese and 70s sleaze when Tanner proposes that they and Lindsay create a prequel to the Ocean's Eleven heist movie franchise. Tanner digs into the deep lore gleaned from all four movies to create the story of Danny and Debbie Ocean's first job, with Lindsay providing all the historical information on aesthetics and highly stupid real world crooks. Along the way they also discuss how big Canada is, the cinematic masterpiece that is Catch That Kid, and their goal of packing bicons into every possible reboot they can.   Our cover art is by Alex aka @ptchew, and her work can be found on ptchew.com. This week on The First Run, Matt & Chris laughed, cried, and spent a healthy amount of their time at the theater in abject terror. First up, it's the latest from TFR favorite A24, ‘Hereditary'. Toni Collette plays a mother desperate to keep her family together as it faces tragic losses and other associated terrifying goings on. It's supposed to be the scariest film in years. Can it possibly live up to the hype? Then it's the ‘Ocean's' heist film series spin off, ‘Ocean's 8'. Sandra Bullock plays Debbie Ocean, fresh out of prison and ready to make a big score. She recruits a crew featuring THE Cate Blanchett, Rhianna, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Helena Bonham Carter and Awkwafina to steal a $150 million necklace off a movie star portrayed by Anne Hathaway. Can director Gary Ross recapture the magic of the original, or does this latest outing pair up more with the lackluster sequels? Christopher Cross and Dylan Schwan would be too conspicuous for Debbie Ocean’s heist so instead we just sit back and review how Sandra Bullock and company fared in Ocean’s 8. The sequel/reboot of the Ocean’s franchise is helmed by Gary Ross instead of Steven Soderbergh, but still maintains a lot of the style of the original films. But does that mean it’s a great film? Listen to us discuss the cast, the heist, and what it means to be an Ocean’s movie on this week’s episode. We were too busy watching the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) to actually have much to talk about movie-wise this week, so other than Westworld’s newest episode, we mostly just talk about trailers like First Man, Halloween, and The Lego Movie 2. Moviegoers can now return to the world of high-stakes heists in "Ocean's 8," which tells the story of Debbie Ocean (played by Sandra Bullock and who is the sister of George Clooney's character Danny Ocean) and her all-female crew as they attempt to heist a $150M necklace at the Met Gala in NYC. In this episode of the podcast, Andy Farnsworth and Ryan Meeks are joined by Geektyrant.com writer Kristian Odland (who is also the "1-Minute Critic" on YouTube) to give their SPOILER-FILLED thoughts of the new movie, which also stars Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson, and Awkwafina. Among the things they discuss: Does being a part of the "Ocean's 11" universe help the movie or hurt it?  Would it be a good heist movie without the ties to the previous films?  And does it rank anywhere among their favorite heist-movies of the past?

The Filmlosophers, Eddie Villanueva, Chad Riley and Spencer Williams, hatch a plot to make a lot of money with this week's review of Ocean's 8 (2018). The fourth installment in Steven Soderbergh's revitalized Ocean's franchise, the film features an all-female take on the heisty storyline and stars Sandra Bullock as Debbie Ocean, the estranged sister of George Clooney's Danny Ocean, who served as the ringleader in the previous three films. Directed by Gary Ross, the film also stars Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Richard Armitage and James Corden. Ocean's 8 is most recognizably cut from the same cloth as the prior films thanks to its cool soundtrack and ensemble-focused plot. Its ensemble, though, is where the film breaks from its predecessors and offers a more tightly balanced team where each member shines in her own way. Will it woo the crowds on opening weekend? We're pretty sure it “con.”
