Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (or simply Furiosa) is a 2024 Australian[5] post-apocalyptic action film directed and produced by George Miller, who wrote the screenplay with Nico Lathouris. It is the fifth installment in the Mad Max franchise, serving as a prequel and spin-off to Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), and focuses on the Fury Road character Imperator Furiosa. The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Alyla Browne as younger versions of Furiosa (originally portrayed by Charlize Theron), alongside Chris Hemsworth and Tom Burke. Set 15 to 20 years before the events of Fury Road, in a desert wasteland where warlords fight over the last remaining sources of water, food, weapons, and gasoline, Furiosa traces the young title character's life from her kidnapping by the forces of warlord Dementus (Hemsworth) to her revenge on the warlord for the loss of her mother. For over a decade, she struggles to survive as a slave and, eventually, a trusted lieutenant of the Citadel's cult leader, Immortan Joe (Lachy Hulme), and his military commander Praetorian Jack (Burke). Miller initially intended to shoot Furiosa back-to-back with Fury Road, but the former spent several years in development hell amidst salary disputes with Warner Bros. Pictures, Fury Road's distributor. Several crew members from Fury Road returned for Furiosa, including composer Tom Holkenborg, costume designer Jenny Beavan, editor Margaret Sixel (Miller's wife), and screenwriter Lathouris. Filming took place in Australia from June to October 2022. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival on 15 May 2024. It was released in theatres in Australia by Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures on 23 May 2024, and in the United States the following day. The film received positive reviews from critics and has grossed $74 million worldwide against a budget of $168 million. Years after a global catastrophe, Australia is a radioactive wasteland and the Green Place of Many Mothers is one of the last remaining areas with fresh water and agriculture. Raiders discover the Green Place while two kids, Furiosa and Valkyrie, are picking peaches. Furiosa attempts to sabotage their motorbikes, but the raiders capture her as a prize for their leader, warlord Dementus of the Biker Horde. Furiosa's mother Mary pursues them to the Horde's camp, killing all but one raider. The last raider delivers Furiosa to Dementus, but Furiosa mortally wounds him before he can reveal the Green Place's location. Plot[edit]

"Deep Blue Sea" is a 1999 science fiction thriller film directed by Renny Harlin. The movie revolves around a group of scientists conducting research on a remote underwater facility where they genetically engineer sharks to increase their brain size in order to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease. However, their experiment goes awry as the highly intelligent sharks become smarter and more dangerous, leading to a series of intense and suspenseful events. As the sharks wreak havoc, the scientists must fight for their lives and find a way to escape the rapidly sinking facility. The film explores themes of ethics, the consequences of scientific experimentation, and the struggle for survival against powerful and intelligent predators. The film was produced by Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures. The screenplay was written by Duncan Kennedy, who drew inspiration from various shark-themed movies, but with a unique twist that involved genetically engineered sharks. The movie was shot on various locations, including the Baja Studios in Mexico, which featured a massive water tank that could be used to film underwater scenes. The filmmakers used a combination of animatronics, puppetry, and CGI to bring the intelligent sharks to life on screen. One of the most memorable aspects of the production was the elaborate and challenging underwater sequences. These scenes required careful planning and coordination to ensure the safety of the cast and crew. Additionally, the film's visual effects team worked to create realistic and convincing shark movements, particularly during the action-packed sequences. The cast of "Deep Blue Sea" included actors like Thomas Jane, Saffron Burrows, LL Cool J, and Samuel L. Jackson. Their performances contributed to the tension and excitement of the film.Overall, the production of "Deep Blue Sea" faced various challenges due to its underwater setting, complex visual effects, and the need to create suspenseful and intense sequences involving intelligent sharks. Despite the challenges, the film was released in 1999 and became a notable entry in the shark-themed thriller genre. thevhsstrikesback@gmail.com https://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thevhsstrikesback/support

What if virtual worlds become indistinguishable from the real one? In 1999 the science fiction film, The Matrix, depicted a dystopian future in which people are unknowingly trapped inside a simulated reality, run by intelligent machines. As the fourth film, The Matrix Resurrections, is about to be released, the writer Naomi Alderman considers the influence this movie franchise has had in the last two decades, and how far virtual reality has become part of everyday life. The philosopher, David J Chalmers, proposes that the Matrix scenario could be the future, but that rather than trapped, humanity can lead a meaningful life in virtual reality. Chalmers is one of the leading thinkers on consciousness. In his latest book, Reality+ he provocatively argues that VR is not escapism. And that we may even be living in a computer simulation already – and if that is true, it's not so bad. Philippa Garety is Professor of Clinical Psychology at Kings College London and has been at the forefront of treatments for problems associated with psychosis, including hearing voices and hallucinations. She is currently working on innovative treatments using digital technology, including avatars and virtual reality, to alleviate suffering. In a clinical setting VR can be managed as a safe environment for patients who struggle in the real world, as a place they can confront and understand their delusions. We discuss simulation theory, quantum physics, movies about virtual worlds, science fiction, and other things. Episode 66 is a real toe-tapper, as Chris and Alex dance to the beat of George Miller’s 2006 computer-animated musical feature Happy Feet (George Miller, 2006), produced by U.S. studio Village Roadshow Pictures in collaboration with Australian animation and VFX studio Animal Logic. Joining them to discuss this digital tale of all-singing all-dancing penguins is Dr. Hannah Hamad, Senior Lecturer in Media and Communication at Cardiff University’s School of Journalism, Media and Culture, having previously been Lecturer in Film Studies at King’s College London, and Senior Lecturer in Media Studies at the University of East Anglia. Hannah’s first monograph Postfeminism and Paternity in Contemporary US Film was published by Routledge in 2014, and since then she’s gone on to write on recessionary reality TV, austerity, contemporary celebrity/stardom and postfeminist media cultures, the postracial, and feminist media history. Listen as they discuss Happy Feet’s racial body politics and problematic relationship to neo-minstrelsy; the ‘invisible’ role of dance performer Savion Glover within the film’s marketing campaign, and how Happy Feet’s status as a ‘post-Gollum’ motion-capture feature taps into its appropriation of black culture; discourses of the post-racial within mid-2000s animated features in Hollywood; the star vocal performance of Robin Williams; and the extent to which audiences are able to accept as the fantasy of the animated medium as a vital form of social discourse.

Najważniejsze omawiane filmy: The Matrix (1999), reżyseria i scenariusz: Lana Wachowski i Lilly Wachowski; w rolach głównych: Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss; prod. Warner Bros., Silver Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures. The Matrix Reloaded (2003), reżyseria i scenariusz: Lana Wachowski i Lilly Wachowski; w rolach głównych: Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss; prod. Warner Bros., Silver Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures. The Matrix Revolutions (2003), reżyseria i scenariusz: Lana Wachowski i Lilly Wachowski; w rolach głównych: Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss; prod. Warner Bros., Silver Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures. Rekomendacje: Kuba: The Mandalorian (2019), pierwszy serial osadzony w galaktyce Gwiezdnych Wojen w czasach kilka lat po wydarzeniach znanych z szóstej części i 25 lat przed częścią siódmą. Lecz, przede wszystkim, stawia on więcej pytań niż prezentuje odpowiedzi. Tak jak i nasz pierwszy odcinek. Najważniejsze omawiane filmy: Joker (2019), reż: Todd Philips; scenariusz: Todd Phillips i Scott Silver; w rolach głównych: Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Robert De Niro; prod. Warner Bros., Village Roadshow Pictures i DC Films. Rekomendacje: Kuba: Watchmen (2019), nowy serial HBO będący wariacją na temat słynnej powieści graficznej Alan’a Moore’a i Dave’a Gibbons’a. A Warner Bros. Dave and Richard have been to see Joker. What did they think of it? Tune in! Joker is a 2019 American psychological thriller film directed by Todd Phillips, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver. The film, based on DC Comics characters, stars Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. An origin story set in 1981, the film follows Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian who turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City. Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Bill Camp, Shea Whigham, and Marc Maron appear in supporting roles. Joker was produced by Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Films, and Village Roadshow Pictures, and distributed by Warner Bros. Joker premiered at the 76th Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2019, where it won the Golden Lion, and was released in the United States on October 4, 2019. The film polarised critics; while Phoenix's performance was praised, the dark tone, portrayal of mental illness, and handling of violence divided responses. Joker also generated concerns of inspiring real-world violence; the movie theatre where the 2012 Aurora, Colorado mass shooting occurred during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises refused to show it.

Warner Bros. Warner Bros. Forever alone in a crowd, failed comedian Arthur Fleck seeks connection as he walks the streets of Gotham City. Arthur wears two masks -- the one he paints for his day job as a clown, and the guise he projects in a futile attempt to feel like he's part of the world around him. Isolated, bullied and disregarded by society, Fleck begins a slow descent into madness as he transforms into the criminal mastermind known as the Joker. Joker is a 2019 American psychological thriller film directed by Todd Phillips, who co-wrote the screenplay with Scott Silver. The film, based on DC Comics characters, stars Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker. An origin story set in 1981, the film follows Arthur Fleck, a mentally ill failed stand-up comedian who turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City. Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Bill Camp, Shea Whigham, and Marc Maron appear in supporting roles. Joker was produced by DC Films, Village Roadshow Pictures, Bron Creative, and Joint Effort, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. Phillips conceived Joker in 2016 and wrote the script with Silver throughout 2017. The two were inspired by 1970s character studies and the films of Martin Scorsese, who was initially attached to the project as a producer. The graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke (1988) was the basis for the premise, but Phillips and Silver otherwise did not look to specific comics for inspiration. Phoenix became attached in February 2018 and was cast that July, while the majority of the cast had signed on by August. Principal photography lasted from September to December 2018 and took place in New York City, Jersey City, and Newark. Joker was the first live-action Batman film to receive an R-rating from the Motion Picture Association of America, due to its violent and disturbing content. Joker premiered at the 76th Venice International Film Festival on August 31, 2019—where it won the Golden Lion, the festival's highest prize—and was released in the United States on October 4, 2019. The film polarized critics; while Phoenix's performance was praised, the dark tone, portrayal of mental illness, and handling of violence was met with a divided response. Joker also generated concerns of inspiring real-world violence, with the movie theater where the 2012 Aurora, Colorado mass shooting occurred during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises refusing to show the film. -------------------- FOLLOW US -------------------- NADIA SAWALHA & FAMILY https://www.instagram.com/nadiasawalhaandfamily.com http://www.twitter.com/nadiasawalha For more movie news follow: POPCORN JUNKIES: https://www.instagram.com/popcornjunkiesmovieclub/ ------------------------------------ BUSINESS ENQUIRIES ------------------------------------ For business enquiries contact: michelle@doghouse-media.co.uk --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/popcorn-junkies/message
If you're a regular follower, you know we're not likely to shy away from an honest word...or three. So, it should come as no surprise that the announcement that Director Todd Phillips intended to strip all but the thinnest comic veneer in an effort to "present a unique origin story" for Arthur Fleck, aka the iconic DC character the Joker, was met with unabashed derision and heavy skepticism. Kriss' disdain was such that he skipped the film entirely. Brandon wanted to see how the contributions of its jam-packed supporting cast came across in the final edit. Ro stayed on the fence until Joi's TIFF review fermented a need to see how it all came together in the end. Joker Shamelessly Over-promises for Arthur Fleck If you ignore the media hype, strident marketing push, and Phillip's self-serving interviews, Joker presents the world through the lens of a downtrodden, put-upon, and constantly misunderstood man named Arthur Fleck. Fleck works a dead-end job as a rent-a-clown and has a condition that causes involuntary, and usually inappropriate, laughter. He spends his nights taking care of his fragile mother and his days being hounded, harassed or hardly acknowledged. Despite a desire to be a stand-up comedian, he misreads social cues. His every encounter serves to further disconnect him from the world at large. It seems like, Arthur can't catch a break to save his life. (L-r) JOAQUIN PHOENIX as Arthur Fleck and FRANCES CONROY as Penny Fleck in Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures and BRON Creative’s “JOKER,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release. The scattered pieces of his personality aren't ever truly explored, they are simply put on display...over and over again. Joaquin Phoenix, however, channels Arthur Fleck's deluded instability with a brooding intensity that does an excellent job of distracting from the thinnest of the character. It's clear within the first twenty minutes, this screenplay doesn't understand its character, his motivations or the world it lives in. There's little depth here and it all results in introspection that, even in its best moments, is disappointingly shallow. The supposed transformative moments in Fleck's character arc never lead to growth. Mixed-Messages and Missed Opportunities Despite the visual and audio cohesion the score and cinematography lend Phillip's story (and pacing) Joker will leave you wondering what was the point. What exactly it's trying to tell you. Is it a story about a mentally ill man falling through the cracks? Is a cautionary tale about the economic divide between the have and have-nots pushing society to a violent tipping point? Maybe the point is to say murder's alright so long as it's freeing? JOAQUIN PHOENIX as Arthur Fleck in Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures and BRON Creative’s “JOKER,” a Warner Bros. Pictures release. Joker may not want to underscore or advocate violence (and flat out murder) as a path to self-actualization but this film nonchalantly displays how to make a monster a folk hero. This story dabbles with serious themes blithely playing outside its weight class with little regard to consequences. You'll certainly come away with the distinct impression of who Phillips views as the societal interloper. The audience gets to watch a character increasingly grant himself permission to be petulant, murderous, and so self-absorbed consequences hold little meaning. Taken in isolation, Joker is an interesting movie that has no idea what it wants to say. Its narrative conclusions are dangerously unbalanced, often needlessly disrespectful, and a downright waste of some stellar moments (and cast) that could've equaled greatness. If Todd Phillips had spent less time trying to make an anti-comic book film and more time digging into what nihilism really meant and figuring out what aspects of this deeply disturbed man and the impact this chaotic world had on his disaffected mind, Joker might've amounted to more than just a great performance ...

Pappy, Pat, and Money Mikey spoil and review Steven Spielberg latest movie: Ready Player One (2018)! From filmmaker Steven Spielberg comes the science fiction action adventure “Ready Player One,” based on Ernest Cline’s bestseller of the same name, which has become a worldwide phenomenon. The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger. Spielberg directed the film from a screenplay by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline. The film was produced by Donald De Line, Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Dan Farah; with Adam Somner, Daniel Lupi, Chris DeFaria and Bruce Berman serving as executive producers. “Ready Player One” stars Tye Sheridan (“X-Men: Apocalypse,” “Mud”), Olivia Cooke (“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl,” “Bates Motel”), Ben Mendelsohn (“Rogue One – A Star Wars Story,” “Bloodline”) and T.J. Miller (“Deadpool,” “Silicon Valley”), with Simon Pegg (the “Star Trek” movies, the “Mission: Impossible” movies) and Oscar winner Mark Rylance (“Bridge of Spies,” upcoming “Dunkirk”). Behind the scenes, three-time Oscar winner Spielberg (“Schindler’s List,” “Saving Private Ryan”) reunited his creative team from “Bridge of Spies,” including Oscar-winning director of photography Janusz Kaminski (“Schindler’s List,” “Saving Private Ryan”), Oscar-winning production designer Adam Stockhausen (“The Grand Budapest Hotel”), Oscar-winning editor Michael Kahn (“Saving Private Ryan,” “Raiders of the Lost Ark”) and Sarah Broshar (“The Post”), and costume designer Kasia Walicka-Maimone (“Moonrise Kingdom”). The music is by Oscar-nominated composer Alan Silvestri (the “Back to the Future” films, “Forrest Gump”). Warner Bros. Tyler Perry became a media power player through Madea, his riotous spin on the mammy stereotype. Now the richest man in entertainment, Perry's success lies in serving a black audience that has been consistently ignored by Hollywood. In the final episode of our Black Star mini-series, we look at how stars like Perry, Spike Lee and Shonda Rhimes have begun to re-wire the industry. We also examine the role of the black star in Trump's America. The Soulless Minions take a look at the 2002 film The Adventures of Pluto Nash. Pluto Nash has a bit of a reputation as an enormous box office bomb (a loss of about 90 million dollars) and also as a critically reviled slice of ficton (it was nominated for five Golden Raspberry Awards awards). So does it really deserve such a bad reputation? Is it really that bad? Both Soulless Minions don't think so. Wipe its slate clean and strip it of its rotten tomato and The Adventures of Pluto Nash stands as a fun movie. We do point out some things that we feel would improve the film but most of the time we point out what works and what we like -- including some good set pieces, performances and some genuinely funny moments. So go into it fresh and watch it with us. Maybe we'll make you a Pluto fan. Sync Point - The black frame after the Village Roadshow Pictures logo has faded away. Email Us soullessminions@gmail.com
