In which the Mister joins me in reviewing LOGAN'S RUN (1976), from the novel by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson and a screenplay by David Zelag Goodman, the film is directed by Michael Anderson.  In a futuristic society where everyone is assigned a lifespan of 30 years, a Sandman named Logan 5 (Michael York) is tasked with hunting down "Runners" who defy this mandate. During an investigation he is forced by the computer systems controlling society to become a Runner himself so that he may find and destroy the place Runners call "Sanctuary".  The film clocks in at 1 h and 59 m, is rated PG and is currently streaming on Tubi but also available to buy/rent from Prime Video.  Please note there are SPOILERS in this review.#LogansRun  #WilliamFNolan  #GeorgeClaytonJohnson  #DavidZelagGoodman  #MichaelAnderson  #MichaelYork  #Logan  #Logan5  #JennyAgutter  #Jessica  #RichardJordan  #Francis  #RoscoeLeeBrown  #Box  #FarrahFawcett  #Holly  #MichaelAndersonJr  #Doc  #PeterUstinov  #OldMan  #Dystopian  #SciFi  @Tubi  @PrimeVideo  #FridayFamilyFilmNight Opening intro music: GOAT by Wayne Jones, courtesy of YouTube Audio Library  --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jokagoge/support

What will happen when the alien ships strike Earth? And later? Who will survive? What will life be like in that latter-day jungle? William F. Nolan pens this grim story of the days and the nights of Lewis Stillman—survivor ...He was running, running down the long tunnels, the shadows hunting him, claws clutching at him, nearer ...  Small World by William F. Nolan, that's next on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, with at least one lost vintage sci-fi short story in every episode. When I recorded Small World at the request of Mike Jones, thanks Mike, I had no idea that the author, William F. Nolan wrote the book, with George Clayton Johnson, that led to one of my favorite sci-fi movies, Logan's Run. The 1976 movie featured Michael York, Jenny Agutter, Farrah Fawcett and Peter Ustinov. I enjoy going to movie locations and when I discovered that the scene where Logan and Jessica discover an old man played by Peter Ustinov, the first elderly person either of them has ever seen, was filmed at the Fort Worth Water Gardens, I had to go see it for myself. So, if it hadn't been for you Mike Jones, requesting the short sci-fi story Small World, I would never have known that William F. Nolan also wrote Logan's Run. Long before Logan, Nolan began writing short fiction stories in 1952 and he would continue to write into his 90s!He is credited with more than 180 short stories, today's story, Small World is the 8th such story written by Nolan. Let's go back in time 65 years to the pages of Fantastic Universe Magazine, August 1957, on page 98 you will discover Small World written by William F. Nolan...Next week on The Lost Sci-Fi Podcast… He knew his wife was dead, because he'd seen her buried. But it was only one possibility out of infinitely many! ... The Other Now, written by Murray Leinster. That's next week onThe Lost Sci-Fi Podcast, with at least one lost vintage sci-fi short story in every episode.

Entering the Fifth Dimension: A Twilight Zone Podcast

Stories that focus on the young or the elderly tend to bring us as viewers into an introspective frame of mind. Season 3 of The Twilight Zone gives us two such examples of this. "Kick the Can" blends both the elderly and the young into the storyline, giving us a double punch to ponder the innocence and wonder of childhood in a way that makes us never to grow old in our spirit. "The Trade-Ins" helps us appreciate the ones we cherish most and the life we've build together. Written by George Clayton Johnson and Rod Serling respectively, these two stories serve as powerful reminders to make the most of the life we have, enjoy it to the fullest, and never forget what it's like to be young.   Connect with Entering the Fifth Dimension: Facebook community Follow us on Twitter Contribute Listener Feedback

Logan's Run (1976) is an American science fiction action film directed by Michael Anderson and starring Michael York, Jenny Agutter, Richard Jordan, Roscoe Lee Browne, Farrah Fawcett, and Peter Ustinov. The screenplay by David Zelag Goodman is based on the 1967 novel Logan's Run by William F. Nolan and George Clayton Johnson. It depicts a utopian future society on the surface, revealed as a dystopia where the population and the consumption of resources are maintained in equilibrium by killing everyone who reaches the age of 30. The story follows the actions of Logan 5, a "Sandman" who has terminated others who have attempted to escape death and is now faced with termination himself. Marvel Comics published a short-lived comic book series, which adapted the movie's story and briefly continued beyond it until the book was cancelled at issue #7. Maffiahálózatok veszik át a kormányzást a Sigma Iotia II felszínén, miután a Horizon száz évvel korábbi kapcsolatfelvétele egy könyv hátrahagyása miatt kulturális fertőzéshez vezet: az utcákon a 20-as évek Chicagójához hasonlóan rendszeresek a rajtaütések és bandaháborúk, a legnagyobb területet birtokló Béla Okmyx pedig a Csillagflotta haderejével szeretne csapást mérni a rivális vezetőkre, amikor a foglyul ejtett leszállócsapat felszerelését tanulmányozza. Aktuális adásunk témája ’Az Enterprise gang akcióba lendül’ című epizód. Rövid hírszekció: • Lehet, hogy feléled a Kelvin-univerzum: a Paramount Noah Hawleynek adta a megbízást, hogy hozza tető alá a folytatást. A történet megírásán kívül a rendezést is ő valósíthatja meg. • Magyar szinkronnal nézhető a 2018-as Lost in Space sorozat első évada. Vajon a Star Trek: Discovery szinkronjára mikor számíthatunk? • A Deep Space Nine alkotói kezdetben nem a tribblis epizódon (Trials and Tribble-ations), hanem ennek a történetnek a folytatásán gondolkodtak. A saját világunk fejlődése vajon mentes a külső beavatkozások hatásaitól?

Shape-shifters of the world unite! This week Craig takes on the Twilight Zone classic “The Four of Us Are Dying” (and the George Clayton Johnson short story that inspired it) as well as the not-quite-so classic “The Self-Improvement of Salvadore Ross” in a jazz-fueled free fall into the neon-splashed netherworld of film noir. Along the way he enjoys an enlightening chat with Mr. Stephen Pickard, the man largely responsible for the HD-sourced transfers (and the bumper crop of isolated music tracks!) commissioned for the glorious Definitive Edition DVD sets… which makes him a true hero in our eyes.   Opening theme: “Neither Here Nor There” (Revision #2) by Twin Loops Closing music: “The Four of Us Are Dying” by Nine Inch Nails (from the album The Slip, copyright 2008 by the Null Corporation)   The Twilight Zone is a trademark of CBS, Inc. Twilight Zone: The Movie. Running Time: 50 minutes 36 seconds Star Trek and The Twilight Zone are intrinsically linked by their creative teams. Many Twilight Zone writers and actors later contributed to Star Trek, and many Star Trek personnel went on to create new incarnations of The Twilight Zone. This can be seen in the 1983 film as well. Twilight Zone: The Movie adapted three classic episodes of the original series. All three stories originated from Star Trek writers, George Clayton Johnson, Jerome Bixby, and Richard Matheson. These stories were adapted for the big screen by Matheson. In this episode of Stage Nine, John and Mike begin their "Shocktober" celebration by looking at Twilight Zone: The Movie. Stage Nine: A Podcast about the People Who Make Star Trek

Ocean's Eleven. Running Time: 42 minutes 49 seconds Six years before writing the first episode of Star Trek ("The Man Trap"), George Clayton Johnson was part of the team that helped to bring the original Ocean's Eleven to the big screen. Lewis Milestone's Rat Pack movie, starring Frank Sinatra, spawned a remake in 2001. That remake, directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring George Clooney. That remake led to two sequels, as well as Ocean's Ocho, an upcoming film directed by Gary Ross and starring Sandra Bullock. In this episode of Stage Nine, John and Mike continue their fiftieth anniversary celebration of Star Trek by looking at the other franchise that Johnson originated. We discuss the problems with the original, how the remake fixed them, whether or not the sequels are any good, and what we can expect to see in the spinoff. In news, we discuss the hiring of David Mack and Mike Johnson to help in the creation of a Discovery expanded universe. So much so, that people tend to forget that Pegg has a partner on the project, co-writer Doug Jung.   In this episode of Commentary: Trek Stars, Mike and John take a look at Jung's first movie, Confidence. We discuss the film's intricate structure, its similarity to other films from the time period, and what it tells us about Jung's contribution to Beyond. Kruger J, Dunning D. The authors suggest that this overestimation occurs, in part, because people who are unskilled in these domains suffer a dual burden: Not only do these people reach erroneous conclusions and make unfortunate choices, but their incompetence robs them of the metacognitive ability to realize it. Across 4 studies, the authors found that participants scoring in the bottom quartile on tests of humor, grammar, and logic grossly overestimated their test performance and ability. Although their test scores put them in the 12th percentile, they estimated themselves to be in the 62nd. Several analyses linked this miscalibration to deficits in metacognitive skill, or the capacity to distinguish accuracy from error. Paradoxically, improving the skills of participants, and thus increasing their metacognitive competence, helped them recognize the limitations of their abilities. The Twilight Zone is a television anthology series created (and often written) by its narrator and host Rod Serling. Each episode (156 in the original series) is a self-contained fantasy, science fiction, or horror/terror story, often concluding with an eerie or unexpected twist. Although advertised as science fiction, the show rarely offered scientific explanations for its fantastic happenings and often, if not always, had a moral lesson that pertained to everyday life. The program followed in the tradition of earlier well written radio programs such as The Weird Circle and X Minus One. A popular and critical success, it introduced many Americans to serious science fiction ideas through television and also through a wide variety of Twilight Zone literature. The success of this original series led to the creation of two revival series (a cult hit series that ran for several seasons on CBS and in syndication in the '80s, and a short-lived UPN series that ran early in the new millennium), a feature film, a radio series, a comic book, a magazine and various other spinoffs that would span five decades. Writers for The Twilight Zone included leading genre authorities such as Charles Beaumont, Richard Matheson, Jerry Sohl, George Clayton Johnson, Earl Hamner Jr., Reginald Rose and Ray Bradbury. Many episodes also featured adaptations of classic stories by such writers as Ambrose Bierce, Lewis Padgett, Jerome Bixby and Damon Knight.

Why or why not? What is your first impression of Mr. Bookman when you first see him? When Loou Bookman seemed to outsmart Death after they made their bargain, Death said that he would have to select another alternative since Bookman wouldn't go with him willingly. Why do you think Death chose Maggie? Do you think it was a random selection, or did Death have a reason for choosing her? Do you think Death meant to get caught up in Bookman's big pitch or do you think he had every intention to take Maggie at midnight?I would love to hear from you!
