Do you know what time of year it is, Spookies? It's the fifth Tuesday of April — and the last Tuesday before May. If you know what that means, then you and Chelsea must seriously be on the same wavelength, because this week's episode of Spooky Tuesday has been years in the making. In honor of the bonus episode slot that happens to fall before the first Monday of May — aka the annual Met Gala — it's time we do Ocean's 8 (2018). Next week, all of our favorite celebs will hit the red carpet for a fabulous costume (institute) party, and this week, we're gonna watch about half of them star in a heist flick using that same setting. And not just any heist flick. This Sandra Bullock-Cate Blanchett-Rihanna-Anne Hathaway-Sarah Paulson-Mindy Kaling-Awkwafina-Helena Bonham Carter-led film was one of the big girl boss reboots to hit the silver screen, and we're ready to debate whether it stuck the landing. Sorry, though. James Corden is in this movie, too. :( Resources:https://screenrant.com/oceans-9-movie-sequel-updates-sandra-bullock/https://screenrant.com/oceans-14-george-clooney-return-danny-not-dead-lie/https://screenrant.com/oceans-8-movie-ending-explained/https://www.polygon.com/2018/6/9/17438074/oceans-8-oceans-11-ending-connectionshttps://newrepublic.com/article/148980/oceans-8-diamonds-girls-best-friendhttps://bi.org/en/articles/the-unicorn-scale-oceans-8https://medium.com/@kasey.rae/oceans-8-film-review-b3bed6b05b2f

That's why they're all number one. One of them is, Everything Communicates and that's one of the things that communicates. I'll tell you kind of the converse of the story...19:00 – Well, so we need to be strategic absolutely about communication, because, you know, how many times have you been there whether you're in communications or not. You're at work and somebody comes to you and says, oh, you know, we need to send out an email about XYZ. People's minds, especially when it goes to communication, a lot of times just go to the tactic, we need an email, we need a meeting, we need a town hall, we need a video. 23:25 - Tell them a story! That's my third number one rule of communication, is to tell them a story. Why is that? Go back to caveman drawings. That's just the natural way for humans to communicate and to relate to one another and to move one another, to action. Frankly, it's not that tough, because there's a very simple structure. 29:20 – Regarding the e-Learning we've got, it's all about the video success. So you got the visual and the audio, but then we also have little exercises that reinforce a lot of the points that we talked about in the videos. Then we also added in each of the courses, we have these downloadable tools and templates that you can take and keep. Gary Ross brought the YA-sensation penned by Suzanne Collins to the big screen but made some fundamental changes to the story's scope in the process. In episode 292, Luke & James discuss an expanding POV, a cave scene with less heat, a Taylor Swift soundtrack for the ages, worldbuilding details lost to a shaky camera, Jennifer Lawrence vs Katniss Everdeen, and analyze a desaturated look from a specific time in movies. "Big", directed by Penny Marshall, was a heartwarming and whimsical endeavor that brought together a talented cast and creative team to craft a unique and magical story. Starring Tom Hanks as Josh Baskin, a young boy who makes a wish to be "big" and wakes up in an adult body, the film navigates the challenges and joys of growing up in a reversed manner. The casting of Tom Hanks in the lead role was a key element in the film's success, as his affable and endearing portrayal contributed significantly to the charm of the story. The production team, including screenwriters Gary Ross and Anne Spielberg, skillfully balanced humor and emotion, capturing the essence of childhood wonder and the challenges of adulthood. The film's production involved creative efforts to make the transformation from a child to an adult visually convincing and entertaining. Special effects and makeup played a crucial role in bringing the fantastical premise to life, allowing Hanks to seamlessly transition between the child and adult versions of the character. "Big" became a critical and commercial success, earning Hanks an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor and solidifying its place as a beloved classic in the realm of family-friendly comedies. The film's exploration of the universal themes of growing up and the enduring magic of childhood resonated with audiences, making "Big" a timeless and memorable cinematic experience. If you enjoy the show we have a Patreon, so become a supporter. www.patreon.com/thevhsstrikesback Plot Summary: "Big" follows the enchanting journey of Josh Baskin, a 12-year-old boy played by David Moscow, who makes a wish to be "big" on a carnival fortune-telling machine and wakes up the next morning in the adult body of Tom Hanks. As Josh navigates the challenges of being an adult in a child's world, he lands a job at a toy company and quickly rises through the ranks with his fresh perspective. While grappling with the complexities of grown-up life, including romantic entanglements and professional responsibilities, Josh learns valuable lessons about the joys and pitfalls of adulthood. The film's blend of humor, heart, and the universally relatable theme of retaining the spirit of childhood in the face of growing up made "Big" a beloved classic, and Tom Hanks' charismatic performance was central to its enduring charm. thevhsstrikesback@gmail.com https://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/thevhsstrikesback/support

In the final part of our discussion with Gary Ross we actually get to Question 2 of the list we sent to him but more importantly we hear about choosing the right form of communication for within an organisation and why that might be more than one method and why that method is as important […]
Dan takes us back to a time he remembers fondly, the fabulous 50's and the birth of the boomer generation who single-handedly solve racism in Gary Ross's 1998 fantasy PLEASANTVILLE. I'm being unnecessarily cynical because on the one hand this is an entirely original fantasy with a great concept and unique visual style, a stirring Randy Newman score and beautiful themes about the power of self-expression but on the other it's a movie that seeks to address segregation and racism in a town populated exclusively by white people. Tobey Maguire brings the cow-eyed geek energy of Peter Parker and Reece Witherspoon teaches her mother (Joan Allen) to masturbate so hard she causes a tree to spontaneously combust. We love to hear from our listeners! Our fiftieth (full-length) installment! Thanks to all who have been listening, especially those with us from the start, and we hope the next fifty are enjoyable. It seemed right to close out that milestone, and the first half of Season 2, with something a bit more relaxed. So here we are with another inspirations episode, this time on thirteen films that we think are particularly suited for Changeling: the Dreaming. (It would've been ten like the other inspirations episodes, but there was no way we could have kept it to that few.) This is a mix of movies officially recommended in the books and some of our own picks, a balance between overtly fae-themed films and others that more generally reflect the themes of the game. Episode 48 of the Jess Get Hired Podcast features Gary Ross, President and CEO of Inside Comms. In this episode, we are going to discuss one of the most challenging aspects of communication in the workplace: handling difficult conversations, or as we like to call them, "Tough Talks." In this episode, Gary and Jessica will go over how to approach and navigate these types of conversations with ease and confidence. Some of the things you will hear: Identify the objective of the conversation. Before you engage in any difficult conversation, it's important to identify the objective of the discussion. What do you hope to achieve from the conversation? Is it to resolve a conflict or to provide feedback? Knowing the objective will help you stay focused and on track during the conversation. Decide on how and when to communicate the message. Once you have identified the objective, it's time to decide on how and when to communicate the message. Choose a time and place that is private, quiet, and free of distractions. Consider the other person's schedule and make sure they have enough time to engage in the conversation. Determine what you want in the end and how to follow up. After the conversation, it's important to follow up and check in on the other person. This will show that you are committed to resolving the issue and maintaining a positive relationship. Be Honest and Empathic Anticipate responses and reactions Watch your body language and tone of voice Listen to Understand vs. Listen to React Handling difficult conversations can be a challenging experience, but with the right approach and mindset, it is possible to navigate these situations with ease and confidence. Centering on two teens in the then-modern 1990's getting transported to the world of an idyllic (yet vaguely unsettling) 1950's sitcom, Pleasantville uses broad symbolic imagery to paint a picture about personal growth, the pressures of conformity, and the ever-lingering threat of authoritarianism. Gary Ross, the film's writer and director, was the son of a Hollywood screenwriter who was blacklisted by McCarthyism; that background infiltrates much of the movie's text and subtext. Pleasantville overtly uses visual metaphors lifted from both the Bible and fascist iconography. It makes pointed, unambiguous statements about everything from sexual repression to artistic modernism to conservative anti-intellectualism. Ryan first saw Pleasantville at a formative age and it has remained with him ever since. He is joined by Rachel, who hadn't seen it before. Discussion topics include the movie's thematic connections to the work of David Lynch, the groundbreaking special effects used to manipulate the film's color palette, the historical memory of the 1950's in America, and what Pleasantville has to say about the notions of propriety and civility in public discourse. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ryan-valentine3/support

Topics: (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 23-minutes discussing the YA genre of film, attempting to define it, describing different franchises, and what we like and don't like about it (PATREON EXCLUSIVE) Melvin's never seen a Hunger Game. Melanie learns him a lesson. Melvin on the film's editing, "It was never, uhh, not a problem."The Hunger Games has a good, consistent sense of tone.Despite what some may think, The Hunger Games is technically a mid-to-low budget film costing an estimated 78-million to produce. This may account for the dated CGI work which, even for the early 2010s, does not hold up. The way the Hunger Games are used to cultivate a performative social experience was fairly engaging. Often times it is unclear whether a conversation or event takes place out of a genuine heart or a performative requirement for survival. Before the actual Hunger Games begin, Melvin and Melanie discuss the first half of The Hunger Games, what they enjoy about the setup, and why it helps prepare the audience for the Games themselves.Once the games begin, the two agree: there may have been significant benefits to the film being Rated R.For Melvin, some emotional sequences weren't effective due to the poor editing. The combination of hope and hopelessness throughout The Hunger Games is really evocative and engaging, and this is present even to the end of the game.Recommendations: Naruto (2002) (Anime)Boomerang Fu (Nintendo Switch) (Video Game)Support the showSupport on Patreon for Unique Perks!
