Cʹest un casse, brillant, aussi brillant que les lumières de Las Vegas Oceanʹs Eleven, un film de Steven Soderbergh sorti en 2001. Remake de lʹInconnu de Las Vegas (Oceanʹs Eleven), sorti en 1960 de Lewis Milestone avec Frank Sinatra, notre film du jour raconte lʹhistoire de Danny Ocean qui veut reconquérir sa femme, ruiner lʹamant de celle-ci en procédant au plus grand casse quʹà connu Las Vegas en volant, la même nuit, trois des plus grands casinos de la ville. Pour ce faire, il sʹentoure dʹune équipe soudée et sʹen vont faire des misères au propriétaire des casinos. Le film brille par son casting exceptionnel : ils sont toutes et tous là : Georges Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Bernie Mac, Don Cheadle, Andy García, Julia Roberts, Elliott Gould et Carl Reiner. Pur divertissement, il est emmené à bon rythme entre le film de gangster, le film dʹarnaque et le film dʹamour, avec brio, efficacité et séduction. Steven Soderbergh, réalisateur aux doigts dʹor, change complètement dʹunivers après Erin Brockovich et Traffic et propose une resucée énergique dʹun classique du cinéma de genre, cʹest-à-dire quelque chose entre lʹarnaque et le film de bande de potes. Oceanʹs Eleven est bien accueilli à sa sortie. Forcément, Soderbergh, le réalisateur, est en odeur de sainteté, et puis surtout, il y a la fine fleur dʹHollywood qui joue dedans et qui à lʹair de bien sʹamuser. Et tout le monde veut voir ça. Le film rapporte plus de 450 millions de dollars au box-office mondial. Just before Hollywood rolls up the red carpet for another year, the At The Flicks team steal it away for their review of the awards show. It's like a Danny Ocean moment without any of the glamour, although Jeff and Graham are around the same age as the stars of those movies (if wider and shorter). But like all great heist movies, they bring in a reluctant member of the team. Yes, it's Phil, brought in for his correct guessing skills as he worked out most of these awards in advance (and he tells us without cheating). Settle in for some team hijinks. Of course, if you've seen the recent Academy Awards ceremony, you will know that One Battle After Another was the big winner. Three awards, but only two rants from Jeff. Why only two, well, he has something positive to say about one of its award wins (hint – it's not Sean Penn's win). Oui, cet ex-policier reconverti en influent chef d'une coalition de gangs est activement recherché. Il aurait conspiré avec des personnes aux États-Unis et en Haïti afin de contourner les sanctions américaines, entre 2020 et 2025. Selon le Washington Post, Chérizier aurait collaboré avec des membres de la diaspora haïtienne aux États-Unis pour transférer des fonds destinés à financer les activités criminelles de son groupe : salaires et achat d'armes notamment. Il aurait par exemple collaboré avec Bazile Richardson, lui aussi inculpé par les États-Unis. Cet Haïtien naturalisé américain aurait envoyé au chef de gang plusieurs milliers de dollars. L'homme de 45 ans a été arrêté à Houston, le 23 juillet 2025, et placé en détention. Le Haitian Times revient sur le profil de ce complice installé en Caroline du Nord. Le journal rappelle aussi que le réseau de Chérizier est lié à des meurtres, des incendies criminels et des déplacements massifs de population à Port-au-Prince.  Les États-Unis, à force de pression sur le gouvernement mexicain, ont obtenu l'extradition de 26 membres de cartels de haut rang. Oui, tous sauf un risquent la prison à vie aux États-Unis, mais ils devraient échapper à la peine capitale. Le journal mexicain El Proceso liste leurs noms. Il s'agit notamment de membres du cartel de Sinaloa, du cartel de la nouvelle génération de Jalisco et du cartel du Nord-Ouest. Parmi eux par exemple : « El Cuini », le beau-frère du leader du Cartel Nouvelle Génération de Jalisco. Tous sont accusés d'avoir importé des tonnes de drogues dangereuses aux États-Unis, notamment de la cocaïne, des méthamphétamines, du fentanyl et de l'héroïne, auxquels s'ajoutent des enlèvements, meurtres, prises d'otages, trafic d'êtres humains, entre autres crimes. Cette extradition intervient quelques jours après la révélation par le New York Times d'une directive controversée. Oui, cette directive secrète, signée par Donald Trump autorise le Pentagone à poursuivre les cartels de la drogue latino-américains dans les eaux et territoires internationaux. La Maison Blanche n'a pas démenti. Trump ressert aussi l'étau sur la culture, en obligeant cette fois-ci les musées de Washington à respecter «les idéaux américains». La formule est floue mais le message est clair : toutes les expositions, textes, sites internet et réseaux sociaux de huit musées de Washington vont être passés à la loupe. Leur langage «clivant ou idéologique» doit être remplacé d'ici 120 jours «par des descriptions unificatrices, historiquement exactes et constructives», selon les termes de la lettre envoyée par la Maison Blanche à la plus grande institution de musées de la capitale américaine, citée dans les colonnes du NYT. Pour Politico, cette décision vise encore une fois à «réformer la manière dont l'histoire et la culture américaines sont enseignées et présentées dans les institutions à travers le pays.» On retrouve parmi les établissements concernés le Musée national d'histoire américaine, le Musée national d'histoire et de culture afro-américaines, ou encore le Musée national des Indiens d'Amérique. D'autres musées devraient aussi être visés prochainement par la Maison Blanche.   En Colombie, les funérailles du sénateur Miguel Uribe, décédé ce lundi (11 août 2025) des suites de ses blessures par balles, ont lieu ce mercredi (13 août 2025). Sa disparition laisse le pays en deuil et inquiet pour son avenir politique... Oui, alors que 4 000 Colombiens se sont recueillis mardi 12 août sur sa tombe, le pays est encore sonné par cet assassinat. Son parti politique de droite, voire d'extrême droite, le Centre Démocratique, est plus orphelin que jamais. «C'est la plus grande crise traversée par ce parti depuis sa création», selon El Espectador. Le journal colombien relève qu'en une semaine, le parti a perdu son leader suprême, l'ancien président Álvaro Uribe Vélez, qui a été condamné en première instance à 12 ans d'assignation à résidence, et, «alors que ce coup dur n'avait pas encore été surmonté», le sénateur et candidat Miguel Uribe Turbay est décédé.
