The Great Movie Ride opened with Disney's Hollywood Studios (formerly Disney-MGM Studios) at Walt Disney World on May 1, 1989. Considered to be the signature attraction of the park, The Great Movie Ride was originally considered for a standalone Future World Pavilion at Epcot. Michael Eisner and the team soon realized that the idea was evolving beyond a simple pavilion, so they got to work on a new movie studio theme park, partnering with MGM Studios on the new venture. The Great Movie Ride, which closed in August 2017, included scenes from such classic movies as The Wizard of Oz, Mary Poppins, Alien, The Searchers, Singin' in the Rain, and dozens of other Hollywood films. In this episode, we explore the history and details of The Great Movie Ride, including some of the Easter eggs and historic movie props you might have missed, as well as a few plans and ideas that were never realized. We also talk about the decision to remove The Great Movie Ride to make way for Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, and we experience the attraction together thanks to a binaural audio recording provided by Virtual WDW (you can find the full video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHTdBMW1GWE). If you were an Imagineer and could bring The Great Movie Ride back to life, what new films would you feature, and what would those show scenes look like? We canvas every corner of Disney's Hollywood Studios in this week's update where we see how this Walt Disney World park is still very much under the influence of a pandemic. From attractions and entertainment; from dining to shops to even park services we look at some 40 offerings that are still closed to guests. This is why guest crowds look as large as they do when in truth the attendance is still hovering around 35%. You can see it as we start in the parking lot how many empty spaces there are, and with those lower crowds, operations has suspended a large part of its operation. What do you still miss at Disney's Hollywood Studios? Are you ready to come back, when the park has not completely re-opened? While there are fantastic attractions--and even new lands and experiences ahead for guests, we explore what is still missing in action. You can see our YouTube video of this on our channel J. Jeff Kober. A complete list and more can be found on our Disney at Play website.

The Mad Chatters Podcast | Walt Disney World and Around the Disney Universe
Join us for a musical tour of the Hollywood that never was and always will be: Disney's Hollywood Studios! Years ago, we launched a series in which we discussed the background music and the original songs that play in each Walt Disney World park. At the time, Disney's Hollywood Studios was mostly a construction zone, but now that the park has completed its glow-up, we figured it was high time we close out that series and talk about the background loops and original songs in areas like Sunset Boulevard, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, and more! If you missed our other "The Music of..." episodes, you can find them here: Show 103: The Music of Magic Kingdom Show 128: The Music of Disney's Animal Kingdom Show 166: The Music of Epcot Also on this week's show, Jonathan Harvill joins us for a round of Disney Hashtags, in which we access our most juvenile, immature inner selves with the hashtag #MiddleSchoolDisney. Plus, in our Countdown to the 50th, we highlight the WDW opening-day attraction Country Bear Jamboree. Be sure to find Jonathan online and let him know you enjoyed hearing him on the show! Twitter: @jonathanharvill If you want to interact with us online, we’d love for you to connect with us on Facebook (/madchatterspodcast), Instagram (@madchatters), and Twitter (@MadChatters). We are promptly at Disney's Hollywood Studios at its official opening time of 9:00 am to check out the park. We usually suggest getting earlier, but we decide to see what the park is like right at opening. Our first hour we are able to do Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway as well as Rise of the Resistance. We check out the construction on the new Toy Story Barbecue Restaurant, and look at new merchandise in Mickey's of Hollywood. All this and much more in this Disney at Play podcast as we enjoy a morning at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.
This week it's all about Hollywood Studios and Carrie and I are taking a hard look at some of the attractions and food options. As we go through them we share our opinions if they are overrated or underrated. Given that Hollywood Studios is so popular right now with the new reservation system, we thought it was a good time to offer opinions about what's inside the park. With all the hype - is Star Wars Galaxy's Edge worth the hassle? What about Slinky Dog Dash? Should you be racing there when you get to Toy Story Land? We visited Disney's Hollywood Studios three times over a two day period to give you a big update of all that is happening at this park during the holidays. We check out the decor both day and night and note some of the changes that have happened that accommodate the pandemic, or that are simply new. We especially take the time to visit Rise of the Resistance twice, where we check out the effectiveness of the new online boarding pass system, that permits you to get your pass at 7:00 am in the morning before the park opens. We also look at how changes to the attraction and to ride vehicles on Rise of the Resistance as well as Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway is making it possible for more guests to experience this attraction each day. Be sure to check out not only our podcast, but our post and YouTube video showcasing everything we talk about in this podcast.

7/9/20 - We are back with episode 8 of See WDW! Near and Far podcast. This week, we continue our series covering the experiences, memories, smells, objects, etc. that remind us of our trips to the Disney parks. Last week we talked about Disney's Animal Kingdom. This week we discuss Disney's Hollywood Studios. We hope you come along with us on this experiential journey. You can send comments and questions to see.wdwnearandfar@gmail.com Who we are - John, the founder of See WDW and See UO lives in the Orlando area. This makes him the "near" of this podcast. He is a theme park content creator on several social media formats. His point-of-view theme park video style presents viewers with theme park experiences free of bias or opinion. This allows the viewer to see the parks, hotels, rides, and shows from a guest perspective. You can find his content in the following places. What else can be better than listening to your favorite Star War's Galaxy's Edge restaurants background music and sounds? If you're like us and miss the parks as much as we do then this is right up your ally. This was all recorded during a solo trip Feb 24, 2020. I start out in Docking Bay 7 to record the music from their patio speakers then head over to Ronto Roasters just under the engine with the droid turning the meat. Lastly, I help out an elderly couple by the land speeder garage and take a photo pass picture with a super helpful cast member that I thought was legit going to lick his hand and fix my hair for me. Lol too funny. This episode is being release the same time as 2 Star Wars Galaxy's Edge: Batuu snack and drink T Shirts are being released on WalrusCarp.com. The first shirt is for all the Spork lovers in the galaxy. It says May the Forks Be With You in classic yellow and black with some flying cutlery from Docking Bay 7. The next shirt highlights out favorite Blue and Green Milk from the Milk Stand in Batuu. It showcases the Milk Stand containers as well as Blue Milk and Green Milk cups. Written in either English or for the true Star Wars Nerd Aurebesh or Galactic Basic) the shirt reads Got Milk? Funny? We think so. Head on over to WalrusCarp.com where you can look as good as your favorite Disney snacks.
