Time to get your dancing shoes on and listen to Episode 17 of Love That Album: The Compilation Edition. Eric Reanimator is discussing two different styles of music in relation to four CDs. First of all, the original American party music: Swing. Eric gives the good oil on “Swing! Greatest Hits” and “Next Generation Swing”. The first has some tunes from orchestras led by household names of the original era: Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Artie Shaw and Gene Krupa. The latter has tunes from the Swing revival of the 90s, like Royal Crown Revue, the Brian Setzer Orchestra, and the Mighty Mighty Boss Tones. Eric gives some background on the movements, and also gives some tips on how to impress on the dance floor…… Next up, Eric discusses the 80s movement known as New Wave. What the hell is New Wave? It was an umbrella for a lot of things, but is not so easily definable as other styles. It is more of an umbrella for power pop with a slightly electronic feel mixed with soulful vocals and performed by people in strange makeup and clothes…..yeah, I don’t really know either. Still, Eric reveals some of the gems on “Just Can’t Get Enough” Volumes 10 and 17. Volume 10 covers New Wave Hits of the 80s and Volume 17 focuses on female fronted bands. Having a party? One thing is certain: Eric is a musician to the core. Thanks to his mother, a pianist, his father a composer for contemporary music and his grandfather, who is a jazz pianist till this day, Eric’s interest in music was there from the start. Very early in life, he became familiar with the harmony of tones and the passion for music, which from then on accompanied him through his life. When he was just a little boy, he spend whole days playing piano. He explored fascinated his first tones. Later in his life, his father brought him into contact with electronic music, synthesizers and mixers. Then things happened fast. It all started at Dresden’s subversive basement parties. Then in 2000 in Stuttgart, a life without computer and his music programs, a life without producing, was hard to imagine anymore for Eric. In 2001 Eric formed a rock band, which he supported with vocals and on the keyboard. In addition he also learned playing the guitar. Known as DJ Eric, he already played at various parties and events in the meantime. But very soon he realized, that only dee-jaying didn’t satisfy him anymore. While his buddies at the Federal Armed Forces got drunk, he only wanted to produce music. At that time he created some terrific Techno tracks of high standard. 2009 he met Steven Matai, who contracted Eric as producer and creative head at ONPULSE Records & Booking. His music is so versatile, that you get the impression, that Eric’s head must be about to explode every second. His style is minimalistic, experimental and technoid - a unique variety. After having played numerous gigs around Ulm, like “Sommerklang Festival”, “Cultbar” or “Sucasa” he already made a name for himself and is now regularly delighting his audiences. We spoke briefly with DJ Eric earlier in the week. He's currently balancing life as a superstar DJ and soon to be label owner. He confessed that after all these years, his mixes are starting to take him place beyond the walls of his quaint studio. The first mix we posted by DJ Eric was well received!
