About The Mythmakers From New York Times bestselling, award-winning creator John Hendrix comes The Mythmakers, a graphic novel biography of two literary lions—C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien—following the remarkable story of their friendship and creative fellowship, and how each came to write their masterworks. Through narrative and comic panels, Hendrix chronicles Lewis and Tolkien's near-idyllic childhoods, then moves on to both men's horrific tour of the trenches of World War I to their first meeting at Oxford in 1929, and then the foreshadowing, action, and aftermath of World War II. He reveals the shared story of their friendship, in all its ups and downs, that gave them confidence to venture beyond academic concerns (fantasy wasn't considered suitable for adult reading, but the domain of children), shaped major story/theme ideas, and shifted their ideas about the potential of mythology and faith. In the Parable to the Good Samaritan, Jesus concludes the parable with this phrase: “Go and Do Likewise.” What then is the role of “acts of mercy” or providing for physical needs, in regard to the Great Commission we've received from Jesus: to go into the world and preach the Gospel to all people? Amy DiMarcangelo is an author, a mom, and a seminarian who cares deeply about engaging in the mission of God in a holistic way. She and her husband have adopted a child, and they are involved in caring for refugees in their community. Amy's recent book is called, Go and Do Likewise: A Call to Follow Jesus in a Life of Mercy and Mission. In this episode, Amy and I talk about the “social gospel” and evangelism, and about developing a holistic approach to meeting people's physical and spiritual needs. We also share our stories of working with refugees, including how my father in law, who was a refugee from Hungary, came to faith in Jesus. Learn more about Paths to Understanding at https://www.PathsToUnderstanding.org Join the Paths Network at https://www.PathsNetwork.org Last week, we began a conversation examining the force of White Christian Nationalism in America; how it conflicts with the essence of Christianity and the motto found on coins-‘E Pluribus Unum'-out of many, one. We continue our discussion this week with the author of the new book, “Go and Do Likewise”-and how we can counter efforts to divide Americans.
White Christian Nationalism has become a potent and disruptive force in American politics. Some would argue that it has everything to do with a mix of anger and fear among white Americans, the impulse of nationalism, but very little to do with authentic Christianity. Reverend Terry Kyllo is among those. Go and Do Likewise is the title of his analysis of this toxic force in our culture. In this episode of Challenge 2.0, he explores the destructive force of White Christian Supremacy, as well as effective ways to counter it.

It can be hard to know what to do when we are awaiting upon the return of another. Patience can be difficult to come by. What do we do to pass the time? What is our purpose in the time of waiting? Jesus knew that He would be gone for awhile and He wanted His followers for be informed and prepared for the time when He would not be with them. We are now living in that gap of time that Jesus was talking about. Our parable from the book of Luke this week teaches us that we have been entrusted with a very important task while we are waiting on Jesus' return. It is vital that we take this call seriously as we will have to account for our time here in the waiting. Listen in to this week's sermon as we are challenged to "Go and Do Likewise" with what we have been given.

Money. It is certainly a part of our life but people do not always want to talk about it. It seems to make people uncomfortable or may even feel like a taboo subject in our culture. However, Jesus wasn't afraid to talk about money. In fact, about one-third of His parables have to do with money. So what exactly does Jesus tell us about our money? How are we to spend? How are we to share it? This week, as we read through "The Parable of the Dishonest Manager", we learn how we are to view the money that God has given us and how to invest wisely with a Kingdom mindset. We should not be afraid to talk about the subject of money because it was an important topic in the Bible and God's Word teaches us how to "Go and Do Likewise" in the area of serving Him with what He has given us.

The Prodigal Son is one of our favorite stories, reminding of God's unconditional love for lost people no matter what their past holds. However, that's not the complete message of the parable. Jesus has much more to say especially to those who were considered the religious elite of the time. The story of the prodigal son has much to say to about our attitudes towards each other and about ourselves. Listen to this week's sermon to learn how we can "Go and Do Likewise" as we spend time with others.

We're living through immensely challenging times, and it often feels isolating. In this epiosde, Rev. Aurelia Dávila Pratt reminds us our faith is a source of both strength and discovery, which can lead us to connect with our divine intuition, an inner knowing that flows from God. She is the author of the fothcoming book: A Brown Girl's Epiphany: Reclaim Your Intuition and Step into Your Power, now available for pre-order. In addition to her writing, Rev. Aurelia is also a Pastor and sacred spacemaker. She helped found Peace of Christ Church , a sacred community in the heart of central Texas doing the work of radical love and disruptive peacemaking. Throughout this episode, we also delve into: - The urgency of creating spaces rooted in growth, humility and compassion, and why she sees herself as a paradigm shifter in the tradition of the Beattitudes. - The inspiration and journey which led her to write A Brown Girl's Epiphany: Reclaim Your Intuition and Step into Your Power, now available for pre-order, and why stepping out of harmful paradigms is healing and necesary work. - How her sermon, "Go and Do Likewise" lifts up the concept of radical empathy (a willingness to go near and see a situation), alongside some key questions we can continually ask ourselves: How can I serve? How can I give of my time and resources? How can I mobilze? - Her faith path - it's roots in childlike wonder, and how this approach to our realtionship with Christ is liberatory, pushing us beyond the boxes we construct. God shows us, through His Word, how to be a true, Godly "neighbor," and then tells us to go and do the same. Will we walk out true, Biblical faith because of a burning desire to see ourselves and others changed by the power of God, or are we simply walking out a list of dos and don'ts? “Go and Do Likewise” by Tommy Faulk, Sr. premiered on YouTube on Sunday, April 18th, 2021 for our ANCHOR At Home online church service. Could drawing in church actually be a good thing? John Hendrix thinks so. John is a New York Times bestselling author, widely published illustrator, and Professor of Art at the Sam Fox School of Art and Design at Washington University in St. Louis. For John, drawing is far from a distraction in church; it's a way of sharpening his concentration, enlivening new concepts, and worshiping his Creator. In this episode, John draws from his experience as a committed Christian and an illustrator. Interviewed by Dr. Dru Johnson and Ned Bustard, a previous guest in the Biblical Artist podcast series, John explores his sketchbook of church sermons, differentiates between font and typeface, and introduces us to the idea of gestalt. Along the way, he shares why he eschews the title of "artist" and why he prefers to be called an illustrator or designer. He gives advice to budding professional or nonprofessional artists. As we delve into biblical thinking, we can discover how art and its powerful tools of imagery and metaphor can shape our minds to understand new truths. Dr. Jeanette welcomes Marta Ramos, author of Go and Do Likewise: 999+ Ways to Be a Visible or Invisible Samaritan, to show how to create humanitarian giving in your life. Giving, sharing, receiving, paying it forward and being able to accept: what is it all about? Do you just give at church? Do you still go to church? When we give, can we see that we also receive? How to be a samaritan, what does that mean? Do you hold on to what you have worked to acquire and feel you have ownership over what you have collected? If we live in the unknown and know there is a God, the universe will provide in faith and hope.
