Saul and Jolene were at Dundracon and were asked to do an episode about kids and gaming. We did an episode about three years ago but decided that our son is now 18 and share a parents perspective on how gaming has influenced and shaped our son to become the adult he is today. Saul and Jolene go over the positive influences of gaming, especially if kids are introduced to games at a very young age. Saul and Jolene also discuss the lasting impact of gaming with your children, you just might get an adult with a love of gaming. Thank you all for listening. Music by Burn Down the Charade, song Brilliant Kids, off the album Revelations and Revolutions. Available from Tribeofnoise.com

We took the family to Dundracon's new home now in Santa Clara California. It was a great gaming convention. We took some new equipment and it worked really good. The Zoom Podtrak P8 limiter really quieted down the background noise. Problem we only have 3 microphones so two of us "shared" a microphone which really didn't work. We would like to talk DDC staff for giving us the space to record, Felipe and Kevin for taking time from their convention time to talk to us. Here is a link to the Alamo City Game Convention mentioned by Kevin, being held over Labor Day Weekend 2022. acgamecon.net Thank you all for listening!
Saul and Jolene discuss the Bait and Switch game. It is when you, as the GM, present a game of a genre, a type a particular setting or even a system, but when the players sit down to play, you switch it up on the players and try to run something other than presented. Saul discusses an idea with some fellow GM's and they inform Saul that its a bad idea and say its a "Bait and Switch" game. Saul was thinking it was just a way to surprise the players and didn't think he was baiting and switching players. Still he didn't run the game and years later still thinks he wants to try it but present more information about the game he wants to run. Saul and Jolene ran what they call the "Big D&D Game at DunDraCon" where they ran 3 tables of 6 players using 5th Edition rules. Each table was a different genre but they were all connected by an over arching storyline. Saul and Jolene discuss whether that was a bait and switch game. Thank you all for listening. All we ask is that you share our podcast. Music by Tamale Wally, song Switch U. Available from Tribeofnoise.com
A grab bag of an episode with plenty of call-ins about my family's two day jaunt to DunDraCon, playing Mutant Crawl Classics and gaming with kids (and anxiety) thanks to all the contributions from Che, Josh, Barney, Edwin, Spencer. And apologies for the car noise. With music as always by TJ - https://www.patreon.com/TJD/posts --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/andy-goodman8/message
Saul and Jolene went to Dundracon 44 in San Ramon California over the President's Day weekend. On Saturday they recorded at DDC and had two people join them on the microphone one was the much mentioned Felipe, Saul's older brother, and Phil, Saul's long time friend and fellow gamer. Felipe is the older brother that got Saul started on his lifetime love of hobby gaming with the introduction of Original D&D in 1978. Phil, Saul met in a high school Geometry class, but didn't game with him until Saul returned from college and was re-introduced to Phil by Jim, a fellow friend and gamer. This episode is lightly edited and does have substantial background noise of a gaming convention in full swing, even while recording in a "quiet" hall, on a Saturday morning. Some of the recording was lost due to the use of new equipment but that loss of recording was minimal. As always thanks for listening and please share our podcast in your social media networks.

Gabriel Vega the Director of Convention Development and Organizer of Pacificon had some "Breaking News" and wanted to do and interview give Saul and Jolene first dibs on this News. Gabriel has been organizing Pacificon for the last 15 years here in the SF Bay Area. Gabriel has also started some smaller specific gaming and interest convention in the Central Valley. Saul and Jolene have been going to Pacificon since Gabriel bought the convention from previous owners. Pacificon takes place over the Labor Day weekend at the Santa Clara Mariott which will be the new location for DunDraCon in 2021. Saul asks about Gabriel's gaming roots and it goes back, way back to 1977 and how a particular set of events led to Gabriel's close connection to gaming and Gaming Conventions. Gabriel pulled good joke on Saul and literally left him speechless when he joked about what the big news was. The Breaking News is pretty cool adding another gaming convention to the SF Bay Area coming next year. Thanks for listening and please share our podcast with family and friends.
In this episode we interview Brandon Raasch of Bard Games. Saul first met Brandon a few years ago when he played in his Monterey Dresden game at DunDracon, a local N. Cal, gaming convention. Brandon was such a great player that after that Saul always said hi and talked to him at all the local cons we attend. Saul realized Bradon is a game publisher and has a game on Kickstarter. The game is called Fickle and the Kickstarter ends in a few days. So we wanted to get him on the microphone and talk to him about his gaming roots, his company, his game and Kickstarter. Even on short notice Brandon agreed to join us on the mics and talk to us. As always, thank you all for listening and please share with your family and friends. Here is the link to the Fickle Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/skelletor/fickle-a-fairy-board-game-featuring-the-art-of-amy-brown?utm_source=drunk-on-games&utm_medium=fb&utm_campaign=ficklekick Here is the link to Bard Games: https://www.bardgames.fun/
This is a bonus special announcement episode by Mark S. of DunDraCon. In Feb. 14-17th, 2020 DDC will be at the San Ramon Marriot where it has been for the last 28 years. But in 2021 DunDraCon is moving to the Santa Clara Marriot in Santa Clara. We wanted to put this news out as quickly as possible so we give you the interview announcement without editing. Mark shares with us the big news and other changes that he is planning on making starting in 2020 at DDC and then the "Big Change" in 2021 to Santa Clara. We would like to thank Mark for sharing breaking information. As Always thanks for listening and all we ask is that you share this podcast with friends and family.
When you interview someone that has been around hobby gaming longer than you been alive you never know what you going to get. We did know we were going to get a wealth of information about local gaming conventions. We discover why Mark is one if not the only person that GM's Arduin at Dundracon, because of his special connection to that classic rpg. Also as the event planner for DDC, Mark also gives us an inside peek of cons that we as attendees don't usually see. Add a very frank conversation about all the local game cons that Mark goes to and you get an informative and at times surprising revelations. Like what Bay Area game con has the best rpg games? Listen to find out. Join us for a great talk with Mark Schynert the "event planner" at DDC and active attendee at Kublacon and other Bay Area Cons. Thanks for listening and all we ask is that you share our podcast in your social networks.
In this episode we decided to change things up a little and discuss a skirmish/miniature game called Gaslands by Osprey Publishing. This neat little miniature game that uses Hot Wheels or Matchbox cars uses an easy set of rules to play. The setting is a near post apocalyptic setting where deadly races are televised across the Earth. At a local game con, Dundracon, Saul played with his good friend Bay, Augustin his son and Ian with very little prep or terrain. We all had a blast. Jolene pointed out that at a local game store there was going to be a demo of this game. So all three of us went. The people putting on the demo were very well versed in the game and had set up three tables complete with great terrain and painted and "modded" cars with MG's, missles and other weapons. They had great accessories like acrylic templates, special dice and tokens. I even met a friend of mine I hadn't seen in years! We all had a great time. So we decided to talk about it on our podcast. A great thanks to Jay and Chris for putting on a great demo event of Gaslands. Thanks for listening all we ask is that you share this podcast in your social networks we greatly appreciate it. More info about Gaslands at https://gaslands.com/ At https://www.etsy.com you can find great accessories for Gaslands from MRlasershop and FunBoardGames. Music by Ian Sutherland, song Sunset and Sh*tty Cars, off the album The Age of Understanding and Assorted Tunes. Available from FreeMusicArchive.com
Fresh from going to Dundracon, Saul and Jolene talk about one of the most influential literary works that has influenced Fantasy Role Playing Games. Middle-Earth the world created by J. R.R. Tolkien is one of the most well known worlds in the fantasy genre. Saul proposes that if it were not for The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings books that RPGs as we know them probably would not have existed or at least not in the way they are today. That is because, Saul says that Gary Gygax was influenced greatly by the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Jolene has her view on the matter but regardless on where you stand on that discussion, there have been many attempts at making a RPG where you could play in that world. From M.E.R.P to The One Ring, Saul and Jolene talk about playing an RPG in the world of Middle Earth. Music by Jahzzar, song Wizard off the album Dune. Available at FreeMusicArchive.com
Saul and Jolene attend one of the favorite local gaming conventions called DunDraCon, which was nice enough to give us room in their very busy and packed to the gills convention to do a live recording of our podcast. For us we learned a great deal about setting up our podcast for live recording. But it was a lot of fun and we got some great comments by con attendees that stopped by our table. This was our first recording in a crowded space so the level of background noise if much higher than our regular "studio". Its also not edited except for a bad word than had to be bleeped, but I think it was a good first effort. We would also like to Thank Dundracon attendees Cathy M. Elaine C. and Bay C. for stopping by and answering our questions. Saul and Jolene.. Sorry no intro or outro music which should return with our regular Episodes. Have a Good Day!! Saul and Jolene
We got all kinds of people to join us on the microphone as we recorded Live at DunDraCon on Sunday. We would like to especially thank David Jones for coming back to us to tell us what his DDC experience had been. We had a Pre-DDC interview where we got to know David. Mike E. the executive producer of Kublacon and shared us new things happening at his game convention. We got Dundrcon staff Rachelle B the Publicist, Ariel P LARP coordinator, Meg C Demo coordinator and Con Reg Deputy, Becky T. Teen Room coordinator. And we got a long time running GM Doc Cross a legend at DDC who has run a Toon rpg for the last 33 years!! Items mentioned in our podcast. Kublacon The Roleplay Workshop SCA Doc Cross on Face Book and d.cross on Twitter Dystopia Rising Please if you can do us a huge favor by sharing our podcast in your social networks it is your good word that will help us get our podcast into as many ears as possible. Next is KublaCon where we will be doing another Live Recording of Gaming Perspectives with Saul and Jolene. Thanks again.
The Last but not least of the Pre-Dundracon interviews, this one is with Ezra Denney. I got to know these GM's by going to local gaming conventions. Ezra is one of the best at running games that uses a lot of improvisation, which is not an easy skill to develop. I had the pleasure of playing in one of his Paranoia games at Big Bad Con about 5 years ago and it is the best Paranoia game I have ever played in. So when I sent out a call to do the interviews, Ezra was one of the first ones to sign on. This was the 2nd attempt at the interview as the first one was during a West Coast Storm that knocked out Ezra's internet. But he was gracious enough to try again and we are lucky to have him on our show. Ezra is doing a actual play of Mask's of Nyarlathotep on Twitch and You Tube here is the link to the You Tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-f3c5fFMm1k&fbclid=IwAR1dr6jedHEplcSr6VUYfZDIEAVf5GRWLXh1KKuyVOMgz7nx0dcX-Ex3RD0 These interviews were recorded in our non-standard time. We usually record Sunday morning at 6 am which is why you might hear us yawn and stretch but here you have phone ringing and particularly loud cars zoom by. No intro music with these bonus episodes.. We will be recording LIVE at : http://www.dundracon.com/ Saturday and Sunday from 9:30am to 11am. And Thanks to Ezra, David and Shannon for letting us interview them. See you at DunDraCon!!!
Saul and Jolene are taking Gaming Perspectives on the road when they attend DunDraCon taking place over President's Day weekend. This is the first GM David Jones. He will be running a Tales From the Loop game on Friday Night. You can see the DDC program online. We would like to thank David for taking time to do this interview. See you at DunDraCon!!!
The Second Interview with a GM that is attending and running games at Dundracon. Shannon is a very accomplished GM and usually has many people trying to get into his very well regarded games. Saul and Jolene will be doing a live recording from Dundracon on Sat and Sun. Hope to see you all there. Thanks to Shannon for taking time out of his busy schedule to do this interview with us.
This is a recording of a seminar on Glorantha taken at a game convention circa 1984-1986. It most likely was at a DunDraCon, but it's been too long now and I don't remember. Thank you Greg for creating Glorantha and sharing it with us.
In this segment, we talk about our personal experiences at DundraCon, down in San Ramon, and a ton of other weird and abnormal experiences whilst there. Now come and join us, and enter the magnificent world of.......AWKWARD TALK.....
In this episode Sarah welcomes a new friend to the show; We get reports on THREE gaming conventions, and Cathy talks with a game designer and a convention organizer.
Before we can talk about DunDraCon, we've got some things to get out of our system, firstâ?¦specifically, some music, some terrible puns, lots of being distracted, more terrible, terrible puns, and a quick tangent into discussing Stephen King's *The Dark Tower* series. Somewhere, maybe, we just might even record a podcast! ...Maybe.
We're back from DunDraCon, and it was an incredible experience! We've all got some favorite moments to talk about, from Chris playing Microscope, to Ben trying out the Dungeons & Dragons Adventurer's League, to the awesome Star Wars build of Fate Core that Zack played named "Kellian's Fist". We go into detail about our experiences, what we've been up to, and some of our most interesting new discoveries. Itâ??s the Monday after Dundracon, and the yearly podcast is happening! Mike, Jarys and Mae Linh start by discussing the fantasy book City of Stairs, and the Haunted House game the three of them had the pleasure of playing in on Sunday night. Did Mikeâ??s anxiety about a serious game, and Melissa anxiety about LARPing at all, affect their fun? Plus â?? we ran a game, by the skin of our teeth and the grace of some seriously awesome GMs who gave up their game so ours could live, and Mike tells the story of derailing a South Korean Sci-fi Game entirely! Ben of RP_OK joins us to discuss Guy-Ritchie-inspired Fiasco game we all played Sunday morning, and then Jim and Ben of Geekly Roundup appear to break down the L5R-meets-Harry-Potter of Rival Schools: United by Fate. It was a great con, hear all about it!
We're at DunDraCon this week in the Bay Area, and we haven't got time to record a show -- but we'll be back next week to talk about some of our experiences at the show and try to bring some guests on while we're at it! For more information, check out www.dundracon.com .
Ok, first things first, yes. It has been about 8 months since we did a podcast, and yes, the same two special guests we had on the last one are on this one. Also, WE FUCKING WON THAT SUMMER MOVIE DRAFT! WOOO! … What do you mean it’s already March of the year […]

That Vitamin D sheen you see on Ken’s glossy coat shows that he recently escaped Chicago’s frigid embrace for the sunshine of California’s Bay Area, necessitating another Travel Advisory as we review his trip to Dundracon. It’s another Dork Expedition out and about. We meet dorks in their natural habitat! works at and her mom (Janet Winter) owns . We wander. I didn’t edit this AT ALL before going to the Middle East. My use of language in this episode is randomly inaccurate. Fantastic. I just let Pat sound fix this so it’s more meander-y than I might have let it be if I edited. I hope you enjoy it. I had a blast. At Image it’s chatty with a lot of us talking … and I have a hard time leaving and it digresses into lunch talk. Then we go to the toy store and talk about toys. At length. At the end of the interview we find out that Janet designs costumes and then it’s back to CONS… more convention talk. Obviously... sitting down with Branwyn's mom, in the future, to get some dork history, is in order. Notes: (video of a baby doing this) We lunch in Berkley at a great restaurant: – Don sells dice. We’re back, we’re 50, and we’re drinking boxed wine! We finally jump into 2010, recording at DundraCon 34 with fantastic guests Chris Pramas, Nicole Lindroos, Kenneth Hite, and Bruce Harlick. Discussion covers the convention, Green Ronin’s new Dragon Age boxed set, licensing, Champions for Hero 6th, Day After Ragnorak, and so much more.
We finish out our Dundracon coverage with the back half of our discussion with Ken Hite and Bruce Harlick. In this half, we discuss Ken’s Adventures into Darkness, super heroes of the Golden Age, Ken’s Day After Ragnarok, Wild Talents, Dresden Files Chicago, Summerland and more.
