Everyone's facing something; Things we're battling but aren't sure we can beat—goals we want to reach, habits we want to break, relationships we want to rescue. But significant victories don't come easy. The sheer size of the fight in front of us can leave us anxious, overwhelmed, and exhausted. How do we keep from giving up? There was a warrior king in the Old Testament who overcame insurmountable odds, time and again. His secret: FIGHT SONGS. Like an athlete playing pump-up music before a big game, David leveraged certain lyrics to fortify him for the fight in front of him. One collection came to be known as Psalm 23. Is it possible this ancient anthem can do for us what it did for him? How?
Sometimes it's hard to fully enjoy when things are going good, because in the back of your mind you're wondering, “How long is this going to last?” You probably shouldn't relax too much, enjoy too much, share too much. Because something is going to happen and it's all going to evaporate. Sure, you're grateful for what you've got, but you've got to be on your guard. You want to be open, encouraging, and giving, but within reason. Isn't leaning too far in that direction just an invitation to be taken advantage of? We all have certain things we have a hard time keeping in check—bad habits, thought patterns, coping mechanisms, unhelpful desires, unhealthy relationships. It's usually not something we're proud of. We want to deal with it, but quietly. Which is code for—alone. But somehow, protecting our pride seems to make the problem worse. What do we do with the parts of us that have gotten out of control? Where do we take them? Who do we talk to? How do we get help? Is healing even possible? Everybody's afraid of something. For some of us, it is spiders, snakes, or spoiled milk. Most of these things we can avoid. But what about the other stuff? The big stuff. The stuff there aren't exterminators or sniff tests for. Things like failure, rejection, abandonment. The fear of these things stands between you and everything you want. Ever wonder if you're doing the right thing? How do you know what opportunities to take, friendships to pursue, issues to address? And in what order? And what do you avoid? How do you know if what you're doing is going anywhere good? There's got to be a better way to make decisions than polling our friends and scrolling TikTok for advice from strangers. Seems like if you ask most people how they're doing, you're likely to get one of two responses—tired or busy. And of course we are. We have so many responsibilities, dreams, demands, and expectations on our shoulders. We've got to hustle if we're going to make it all happen. But should we be this exhausted all the time? Anxiety and insomnia are on the rise. What would it look like to slow down, rest, & refuel (without a tropical vacation)? Is that even possible? There are so many things we want, and nonstop advertising makes us want even more. We strive to get what we want and worry we're not going to have what we need, when we need it. We get nervous over rumors of the economy tanking, our industry shrinking, layoffs happening, prices rising, or disaster lurking. What if we can't make ends meet? The Monday Night Football game with the Broncos and Bills had a wild finish. The Bills aren't as good as we expected and that makes the Jets season more frustrating. Robert Saleh is still defending Zach Wilson. Boomer says Garrett Wilson needs to focus on doing his own job. The Broncos and Bills had a battle of mistakes last night. The Bills are a mess right now. Can the Jets take advantage of that on Sunday? Gio says Nathaniel Hackett looks bad right now since the Jets are still trying to run the Aaron Rodgers offense. Gio says if Robert Saleh is right about Zach Wilson playing well then that means the rest of the offense sucks. Jerry has the audio of the play that looked like a winner for the Bills before a flag gave the Broncos a do-over. Robert Saleh said Zach Wilson is better than last year and playing well. The Jets offense can't adjust. Brian Daboll is in an impossible situation. Gio says who cares about pride with the Giants, this year is now all about getting a top draft pick and chance to select the next franchise QB. The coaching staff and players will try but is it best for the franchise to lose? Gio loves “Brass Bonanza”, the old Hartford Whalers song. In the final segment of the hour, we listen to ‘Go! Cubs! Go!” and discuss other great sports songs.

The conversation touches on topics like mob mentality, the jazz world's rumor mill, and orchestrated gunfire.Could Mingus swing? By 1999, fans of the alternative country rock sound had a lot to choose from. At the start of the decade, the mostly underground and regional scenes were known to college radio listeners and other non-mainstream outlets. But by 1999, major labels Geffen and Warner Brothers were putting out albums and developing artists. On Elektra, the Old 97s from Dallas, Texas released their second major label release, and fourth overall. Fight Songs found the band in transition, moving away from the harsher elements of their earlier years, cleaning up the production, and find the hooks for radio.
