But before Erik shares his Don Cheadle story, uncovers an Exorcist sequel, and we change the podcast name to the Bennigan's Boys, Clark tries to decide how he feels about the ending to Netflix's The Push, Randy shares Pavillion, an overlooked film by one of the show's favorite directors, and Lord Battle (Russell) quickly recaps the final Bigfoot Bonanza before wading into The Strangers: Prey at Night. it’s the final week of Found Footage February as the gang watches chronicle!
It's week 3 of our Found Footage February coverage and our lead has gone cold... Clark will shine a light on what I'm referring to at the beginning of the episode, and after that Madeleine Koestner returns to join us on a trip to France as we speak to the director/writer/star of Descent into Darkness: My European Nightmare, Rafael Cherkaski! Learn how Truffant, Cassavettes, Kurosawa, and the comedy stylings of Chaplin/Keaton inspired a French filmmaker to lose 55lbs, capture 90+ hours of footage on 2 cameras, and spend 1000 euros on an ending that was later cut over the 4 years spent editing the film! Rafael is a perfect example of a filmmaker using the medium as a narrative tool. Listeners be warned, the only way we could make contact with Rafael was over Facebook messager and it's not the clearest connection in the world. You can watch Descent into Darkness now on POV horror streaming, and Amazon Prime. It's week two of Found Footage February and this time we're heading to Canada to chat with Chris Power, a guy who uses words like "verisimilitude", shares wisdom like "Killing is fun, murder isn't", and once interviewed a serial killer in the Canadian Fargo. Chris Power joins us to discuss his extremely overlooked faux-doc Long Pigs. Randy visits Mustang Island, Clark plays a game of Hide the Monster, Lord Battle (Russell) dicovers a long lost Ana Lily Amirpour film, and KillDozer (Justin) returns to share R.O.T.O.R.! It's the 1st of February... which means, Found Footage February has officially begun! The first leg of our adventure takes us to Hungry, to track down Adrian Tofei. Adrian chats with us about studying theatre acting, explains how Romanian film schools break the will of young filmmakers, and how "American Movie" affected him. I should probably mention that Adrian is also the writer/director/star of a "proof of concept" found footage film intended for Anne Hathaway's eyes only... This is one episode you won't want to miss! Our first guest ever, Grant Gilliland joins us this week for an episode Clark Little calls "fun", Randy calls self-indulgent, and Lord Battle (Russell) calls unlistenable. Among the chaos, Clark talks about Oscar and his nominees, Randy and Lord Battle discuss Michael Haneke's Happy End and the Spanish animated film Bird Boy: The Forgotten Children, and we all talk about Kentucky Teenage Vampires. Episode 75 is our little (pause)break before jumping into Found Footage February, so if this episode isn't for you I get it.
