Word of the Day is Haters (0:00-11:07) Nick Sirianni developed the Tush Push while coaching the Colts with Jacoby Brissett. Although he has had former staff members capable of executing the play, they have not utilized it thus far. This is why Sirianni is defensive towards critics who express disdain for the play. (11:07-21:04) An incident occurred over the weekend in Collingswood, New Jersey, during a wrestling match that escalated beyond acceptable limits. What should have been a thrilling upset transformed into a chaotic scene when a parent instigated a melee, overshadowing the achievement of the athlete who won the match. (21:04-31:04) Bill Steiner, Tyrone's previous teacher and athletic director, appears on the show to share his thoughts on the altercation that occurred during a high school wrestling match. He notes that the overall atmosphere was somewhat dull, but the wrestling competition injected a much-needed vibrancy into the gymnasium. Unfortunately, the actions of the parents overshadowed what should have been a memorable day for the participating students. (31:40-40:10) Sylvana's perspective on 76ers Head Coach Nick Nurse has shifted. Initially, she believed he could lead the team to victories; however, the reality is that the team currently lacks the enthusiasm necessary to perform effectively. Born in Mount Ephraim, New Jersey, Vaughn grew up in Collingswood, New Jersey, outside Philadelphia.[2][3] At age 6, his uncle gave him a Duane Eddy record and forever changed his life. He started playing the drums in a garage band when he was 12, then transitioned to the guitar. After school, he would go to a local department store, where he would borrow the guitars and practice over chord sheets.[4] He attended Audubon High School.[1]In 1983, he formed the Ben Vaughn Combo. The band was together for five years, releasing two albums and touring the U.S. several times. They received rave reviews in Rolling Stone and People magazines as well as video airplay on MTV. The attention inspired Marshall Crenshaw to record Vaughn's "I'm Sorry (But So Is Brenda Lee)" for his Downtown album. Vaughn embarked on a solo career in 1988, recording several critically acclaimed albums, touring extensively in Europe and the U.S., and receiving more MTV exposure. During that period he produced three records for the Elektra Records American Explorer series (Memphis rockabilly legend Charlie Feathers, Muscle Shoals country soul singer Arthur Alexander) and recorded "Cubist Blues" a collaboration with Alan Vega and Alex Chilton. He also scored two films (Favorite Mopar and Wild Girl's Go-Go Rama), as well as appeared as a frequent guest commentator on nationally syndicated radio shows Fresh Air and World Cafe. In 1995, Vaughn moved to L.A. and released "Instrumental Stylings," an album of instrumentals in a variety of styles. A guest appearance on KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic" led directly to being hired as the composer for the hit TV sitcom 3rd Rock from the Sun. That '70s Show soon followed, and for the next ten years, Vaughn would provide music for a dozen other TV shows and pilots (Men Behaving Badly, Normal, Ohio, Grounded for Life). He also provided scores for several films (Psycho Beach Party, The Independent, Scorpion Spring) and continued producing records (Ween, Los Straitjackets, Mark Olson of the Jayhawks, Nancy Sinatra, and the Swingers soundtrack CD). Support the Show. It's Rock 'n' Roll Fridays!FacebookYoutubeInstagramWebsite Got a Great Musical Story? Their mission is to bring happiness to our customers and team members, and serve the community, while offering a superior experience with quality products, and choice. Artisan viennoiserie bakers place a strong emphasis on using high-quality ingredients, such as butter, flour, and yeast, and on following traditional techniques for laminating the dough, shaping the croissants, and baking them to perfection. The goal is to produce croissants that are flaky, buttery, and full of flavor, with a crispy exterior and a soft, tender interior. She is also Co-Owner of their sister bakery, L'Annexe de Mamie Colette in Titusville, NJ that has bread, French pastries (except for croissants) and Breton crepes. Last, but certainly not least at 01:48:02 in the episode, we had a little French - New Orleans - Vietnamese fusion twist talking to Nini Nguyen about the soon to be released cookbook ‘Dac Biet: An Extra-Special Vietnamese Cookbook' available to order pre-sale now and on store shelves August 27th from Knopf Publishing. At the beginning of the pandemic, she leaned into her passion for teaching, originally honed at Cook Space in Brooklyn, New York, and built her Cooking with Nini virtual classes into a robust business. The classes, which she teaches several times per week, are wildly popular. The cookbook that will soon be available is a collection of contemporary, extra-special Vietnamese recipes, from beloved classics like Hanoi-Style Vermicelli with Grilled Pork and three variations of phở, to dishes with a New Orleans twist, like Southeast Asian Jambalaya and Sticky Fried Shrimp Bánh Mì. Early in his career, Paul Stankard used to trade paperweights for gasoline and car servicing with John Graeber. In 1989, through his uncle John, David Graeber wound up casually visiting Stankard's studio and weeks later was invited to come and work with him. Young Graeber started learning about glass in the deep end of the pool. Thirty-five  years later, he continues to work with Stankard about a day a week.  Having mastered numerous glassmaking techniques and having developed his own working style and visual aesthetic, in 2009 Graeber started his own art glass business. One thing he shares with his mentor Stankard is a deep appreciation for and interest in imagery from the natural world. His paperweight subjects include Chysanthemum, so life-like you want to reach out and pluck them from their crystal orb. Fall Harvest, including pumpkins and blueberries in floral arrangements that celebrate their season with color and vibrancy. And Fruits of Discovery that pays homage to the enchanting yellow lemon trees of Italy. Graeber says: “My stories in glass have evolved over time. However, one fact, my love of nature, remains constant. Many of my creations celebrate the memory of a loved one or the joy of a special event. All capture nature's elegance and remarkable diversity.” In order to create paperweights that reflect nature precisely, Graeber studies his subject matter carefully. A major source of natural inspiration is the million-acre Pinelands National Reserve, which has served as a living laboratory. He is always trying to “find a new illusion,” a new way to express the transcendence he experiences in those environs. Despite his stunning and widely collected artworks, Graeber prefers to be regarded as a craftsman continuing the South Jersey glass tradition into the 21st century. A life-long “Jerseyman,” Graeber honed his craft under the watchful eye of teachers, mentors, and friends including: the late George Vail, who introduced him to the world of architectural reconstruction and forensic sculpture; William “Bill” Marlin, Ed.D., a dedicated teacher and established painter; Stankard, the internationally acclaimed glass artist who encouraged him to strike out on his own; and the late Ed Poore, a renowned master cutter whose skill has enhanced several of Graeber's paperweights.  Graeber has created both a life and a living from the magic of glass. His intricate glass paperweights and impressive flameworking techniques are on display and can be accessed through the L H Selman website as well as Graeber's own website. He is careful to always keep in mind how much more there is to know and that you always need to be learning something new to expand your horizons as an artist. He is restless and often makes no more than a few paperweights of a particular design before he needs to explore another direction.  Two years ago, Graeber met filmmaker Dan Collins at an event, and the two decided a documentary film was needed focusing on the paperweights and artistic contributions of Stankard. Graeber took on the role of executive director and began fundraising for the project in earnest. Since January, Flower and Flame has thrilled hundreds of viewers at packed regional venues, including the Morris Museum, Perkins Center for the Arts and Salem Community College's International Flameworking Conference. The next showing will be at the Paperweight Collectors Association convention May 15 – 18 at the Warwick Hotel in Providence, Rhode Island. Plans for national distribution are ongoing and will be updated on the film's official website as they develop. The film is an official selection of the G.A.S. Film Festival in Berlin, Germany (May 16, 2024), and the Jersey Shore Film Festival (June/July, 2024). Considering art to be a vehicle for sharing and giving back, Graeber started a glass program five years ago at the nonprofit Perkins Center for the Crafts in Collingswood, New Jersey. There, he recently organized a showing of Flower and Flameto raise money for veterans – a group to whom the artist is particularly interested in teaching glass. Graeber has also given his time and energy to the nonprofit Project Fire, located on Chicago's West Side, and helmed by glass artist Pearl Dick.  He states: “I have a passion for the simple gifts of nature: the timeless beauty of a rose, the industriousness of a small bee, or the untamed wildness of a sunflower. Working in glass allows me to explore this passion, and under the tutelage of master glass artist, Paul Stankard, I refined my passion to the art of capturing nature – frozen for eternity in a paperweight.” More about Flower and Flame 1. What does the Bible say about work? Should we quite quit if work gets too rough? Does God want us to participate in work reform? What if my job is my identity? What if I don't find meaning in work? Guess what? The God created work to be a good, valuable, and rewarding thing, but we live in a broken world where we can be consumed by workaholism or chewed up and spit out and left with the feeling that work is not valuable. What if our job is legitimately treating us unfairly? As believers in Jesus our role is to be renewed by Jesus and to help reform our relationship with work and those around us even in the tough situations. From the age of 15, our first guest had a first taste of his future while busing tables at a local restaurant, and fell in love with the fast-paced industry.  After pursuing that love by way of The Art Institutes, Chef Michael DeLone gradually worked his way from line cook to becoming the Executive Chef--and along the way meeting, learning under, and earning the respect of Chef Nunzio Patruno.  Years later, Michael was seeking locations to open his own restaurant when his mentor called with the perfect opportunity: Becoming the new Owner and Chef of Nunzio's in Collingswood, NJ.  Since then, Chef DeLone has been making his mark on the popular Italian restaurant, and is excited to share the new look and re-branding of Nunzio's in the coming months.Speaking of new looks and re-branding, the Craft Beer Store's (Springfield) Owner, Matthew Titus Sr. was elated to share some big news--and you get to hear it first on Food, Farms, and Chefs Radio Show!  After Titus Sr. acquired the business via his position within another company, Matthew Titus Jr. approached his father with a plan--to keep Craft Beer Store and make it their own.  After some much needed renovations and an addition to the beer offerings, the venue became a popular spot for locals to enjoy. Since then, they've made several other changes to the space, including their big news--but we're not into spoilers, so tune in to hear what their Grand Opening (happening on Sept 23rd at 1pm) is celebrating, as well as a few more exciting announcements to look forward to!Looking forward to new things comes with this week's final guest, Michele Di Pietro.  As a Chef; Recipe Developer; Culinary Consultant; Cookbook Author; Food Writer and former Accountant, Michele blended left-brain and right-brain thinking into an artform.  That duality aided in her rising career, taking several different forms along the way.  Chef Di Pietro has blossomed into a multi-faceted business owner and Chef, creating delicious recipes and cuisines for everyone to enjoy.  Not only has Michele developed recipes produced on a larger scale, she offers easy-to-make recipes on her blog and in her book, "Soupified: Soups Inspired by Your Favorite Dishes."  So if you're pondering what to make, feel free to subscribe to MangiawithMichele.com for sauces to entrees and everything in between,  or purchase her cookbook and Fall in love with your new favorite soup!

There are so many phases throughout our lives, and restaurants are really no different. Many restaurants start off as one concept and then slowly evolve into what ultimately works best for the business. That evolution might be slow and gentle, barely felt by the guests, or it could be a clean break to start anew.  Today's Guest, Dominic Piperno, a South Jersey native, recently made the life-changing decision to go from an ala carte menu, where he was working 100 hours plus, to a bimonthly, rotating prefix menu, where the chefs are able to become students of the game again and learn new techniques, dishes and create exciting new menus. What was the reason for this? Well, it was because he realized he was working himself towards inevitable burn out and he was tired of missing many of his young daughters milestones as well as not spending enough time with the rest of his family. Tune in and here how a chef, who was at his breaking point, was able to envision a new phase and a more sustainable vision for his restaurant, Hearthside 2.0 Here's what else we talked about: The charm and allure of Collingswood, New Jersey  Two European parents and how food was central to their family dynamic The memories of visiting the tiny Calabrian village of his father's hometown  His father's guidance and wisdom and how it's been so important to him throughout his career The incredibly rich, fertile ground of South Jersey and the products that come from it Working for Chef Joey Baldino at Zeppoli in Collingswood and Greg Vernick at Vernick Food & Drink Falling in love with live fire cooking The way he knew he was ready to open his own place How the name Hearthside came about  The financial aspect of operating a live fuel concept How switching from an à la carte format to a tasting menu has literally changed his life and given him new energy The many benefits of having a tasting menu concept How becoming a father has impacted his point of view when it comes to leadership How chef holds himself accountable  Why mentoring is so important and why he enjoys it so much How being on this podcast is a full circle moment for Dominic A huge shout out to our sponsors, Maxwell McKenney and Singer Equipment, for their unwavering support, which allows us to be able to bring these conversations to you. Check out their websites for all the amazing equipment they can supply your restaurant with to make your team more efficient and successful. “The Collingswood Story” is the movie that tons of filmmakers should thank for being made. In the late 90's/early 00's, due to the massive success of “The Blair Witch Project”, there was a scramble to make found footage horror. With laptops and webcams and a world wide reach, Mike Costanza saw a movie to be made that no one else saw: Screen Life Horror. The film would marry home webcams with horror elements to create a wonderful and scary film like the world had never seen. Mike and I chat about movies, his early days of editing and his awesome attention to detail that made this movie what it was.Check the movie out at www.cauldron-films.com for a jam-paked blu-ray, or streaming on Shudder.

0:26~Our first guest, Chef-Owner Dominic Piperno, began his culinary journey as a youth.  Guided at a young age by his Grandparents who immigrated to the USA from Germany & Italy, Chef Piperno gained a lifetime of knowledge on how to cook with zero food-waste, using the freshest ingredients, and balancing his passion as a chef with personal time.  With those seeds planted, it is no wonder that he circled back to those habits ingrained in him from his upbringing.  This is why he chose to switch from an a la carte menu at Hearthside in Collingswood to the more efficient tasting menu.  You can visit Hearthside to experience an elevated menu, curated with the best ingredients that Chef Piperno obtained, for an exquisite dinner for two via making a reservation.17:16~Commercial Break17:40~We next spoke with Joey Ward, whose passion to bring fine dining to Georgia stems from years of experience beginning as a young man.  At 16 years old, he began his career while working at a local country club.  After earning an AA Degree at the Culinary Institute of America in 2005, he continued his education while working as the Sous Chef at Woodfire Grill in Atlanta under Season 6's Top Chef's Kevin Gillespie, and later as Gillespie's Executive Chef inside Gunshow.  Armed with the knowledge, skills, and sophistication to create a successful Chef's Tasting experience, Ward opened the joint ventures, Southern Belle and Georgia Boy.37:35~Commercial Break37:49~To say that our last guest, Chef Steve Chu, is humble, warm-hearted, and hard-working would be an understatement: His desire to ensure you enjoy the foods he creates seemed to outweigh any proclivity to brag about himself or the impressive achievements he has founded. In fact, his energy is practically palpable; Chu's passion for food and ensuring you have a positive experience was at the forefront of what he expressed.  I only hope that you can visit one of his locations and taste for yourselves the passion he expresses through his culinary creations.
