Robert Hecker in conversation with David Eastaugh http://www.itsoktheband.com/ Played lead guitar and sang with Redd Kross from 1984 to 1991, and again from 2006 to the present, in addition to occasional on-stage reunions throughout the 1990s. He has also played guitar and sang with the band It's OK! since 1992. As of 2013, he no longer actively tours with Redd Kross, but continues to perform live with It's OK! It's OK! is/are: Robert Hecker (chameleon-voiced guitar guru, Redd Kross), Ellen Rooney (five-octave vocalist), Dennis McGarry (eight-string bass & three-piece suit), & Roy McDonald (drummer extraordinaire, The Muffs & Redd Kross). Individually, they can all stand as shred-lords, but collectively, they make a beautiful, hyper melodic (& harmonic) sound. It's OK! have released four sixteen-song albums on Econoclast Recordings, each & every one of them a triumph of eclecticism. It's OK! have been compared to Queen, Guided By Voices, Poi Dog Pondering, Velvet Underground, Leonard Cohen, the Ink Spots, the BellRays, & A Giant Dog, to mention just a few. “We like all different kinds & sorts of music, so we write all different kinds & sorts of songs.” The band are currently constructing their fifth album.

Episode 123 Notes But really, it's Episode 124. We talk about MUSIC. A shocking amount of music, but also Jaime's moon time, time travel, Jaime's newfound fandom of both a Ke$ha and a Tay-Tay, and a topic! (Song of the summer). Music discussed includes Die Sexual, Paint it Black, Be Your Own Pet, A Giant Dog, Speedy Ortiz and Sonic Youth. We get into a big discussion on Skating Polly (Chaos County Line) and obsession. The FLOOD article we reference is linked below. Give it a read. https://floodmagazine.com/136306/skating-polly-chaos-county-line-track-by-track/ Even more exciting, we had a preview from Jacket Thief, the new solo project from Fu Manchu drummer Scott Reed. The album is “Lights Out on the Shore” and it came out on September 29th of TripKey Records. Songs featuring in Episode 123: "Bound, I Rise" - Die Sexual Find us at: www.trashsouthstreet.com trashsouthstreet@gmail.com Facebook.com/TSS Apple Music Amazon Podcasts

This is probably one of the last opportunities you'll get to see A Giant Dog for awhile, at least in a headlining capacity like tonight’s Sagebrush show. True, A Giant Dog is opening for Dinosaur Jr. at Lakeline Park on April 29, bringing the polar opposite vibe of Soul Asylum‘s scheduled acoustic set that night. […]

When Jim was in Afghanistan, he witnessed three men walk into a welding shop and then simply disappear in the middle of it. He also shares numerous stateside experiences, including a recurring event in his life: he seems to continually come across a bizarre dog at certain times, encountering it for the first time while he was in Alaska. Amidst ongoing drought conditions, wildfires have been popping up all over the area, and Jacob's Well in Wimberley has stopped flowing, for only the fourth time in recorded history. Day two of the Alex Jones Sandy Hook trial ended with lawyers for the opposing sides squaring off over video evidence from Jones' InfoWars show, resulting in the jury being dismissed early. Austin's residential real estate market shows signs of a cooldown, including dropping prices and rising inventory - however, no relief is yet in sight for renters, as prices continue to rise amidst tight inventory. Speaking of tough times for renters - the Austin Animal Center credits a wave of evictions for overcrowding at its shelter, as renters are forced to give up their pets. On the Austin City Council's extensive agenda today: considering a return of the Austin Police Department's use of license plate readers, and codifying the exact parameters that make an establishment a "live music venue". The nonprofit Urban Alchemy has been contracted to run the ARCH homeless shelter in downtown Austin - their experience in the area is under some doubt. The parent company of Spectrum has found itself owing $7 billion - billion, with a "b" - in punitive damages stemming from a case in which one of its technicians murdered an elderly customer in Irving. Float Fest made its return last weekend with a stellar lineup of artists - and a litany of problems. Texas is ranked #1 in the United States for production of renewable energy. Bummed about the end of Choco Tacos? We know a place in Austin where you can still get one. Weekend live music: Friday shows include Cat Power at Emo's, A.R. Rahman at the Bass Concert Hall, A Giant Dog at the Mohawk. Both Friday and Saturday, catch The Shins at ACL Live. Saturday features Third Eye Blind at Germania Insurance Amphitheater, a Madam Radar album release at the 04 Center. And Sunday catch a terrific band I discovered by accident last weekend, Die Spitz are wrapping their monthlong Sunday residency at Hotel Vegas.

If you take your pooch down to the free section of Barton Springs, you’ll recognize that Austin’s a pretty dog friendly town. The moor. Place of ghosts. Factory of weather. Breeder of stories. The high place that reminds people of what everywhere else once was but which is also its own place, hovering, separate, other, and always was. The place where people go to learn about time. Follow the thirteen rivers down from its roof, the wide and the narrow, the high-handed and the meek, and you will understand. Follow them from their secret tussocked beginnings and watch them brag and flourish. Stand precariously on granite ledges and watch the water spin through the mossy chasms below you, listen to the voices within, find out if they ever switch off, for a moment. They did, once, many years ago. But nobody likes to mention it now. Thank you for listening to our first episode of Moorland Community Radio. It's plain to hear that Sweet Spirit has a big sound: The Austin, Texas, rock band has nine members and one of the most energetic frontwomen in indie music. That's Sabrina Ellis, who also sings for A Giant Dog. Sweet Spirit last month released the new album "St. Mojo." Six of the band members stopped into the CPR Performance Studio before a gig at Denver's Hi-Dive to perform four songs from the new LP. They also spoke with Scott Carney about their non-stop touring schedule and their friendship with fellow Austin band Spoon.
There was once a man who had a giant dog. It could swim in the sea, and was so big that it could haul whale and narwhal to shore. The narwhal it would hook on to its side teeth, and swim with them hanging there.
