Jesse "The Body" Ventura returns to the Steve Austin Show, and this time he's telling stories about working with Vince McMahon Sr, vs Vince McMahon Jr; being in the ring with Chyna; his 2009 return to Monday Night RAW after the big WWE lawsuit; and what happened when he tried to unionize the pro-wrestling biz. He's also dropping some 411 on the legalization of marijuana, why he's such an advocate, and what it took to write his latest book, "The Marijuana Manifesto."See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Jesse Ventura stopped by 316 Gimmick Street, and this is part 1 of an incredibly interesting conversation that starts with dogs and whales, and segues into some amazing pro-wrestling stories! Jesse talks about his first-ever gimmick and first match, explains how he became "Jesse The Body Ventura," why he jumped to WCW, his love of Superstar Billy Graham, and the real reason you've never seen him (and probably never will) as a special guest at Wrestlemania! He also shares the story of his color commentary start, and explains the heat behind the controversy he created during a match with Koko B. Mit dem Namen "Saturday Night's Main Event" schwingt eine ganze Menge Geschichte.

The latest installment of Sinister Six warps down to Earth as we suffer through 1992's Abraxas, Guardian of the Universe. Jesse “The Body” Ventura plays the titular intergalactic cop, who chases the evil Secundus across the stars to New York or Canada or Minnesota. Secundus has returned to our world to find his genetically-engineered son Tommy, who he hopes will enable him to solve the Anti-Life Equation (not the one from the Snyder Cut) and gain absolute power. Abraxas and Sonia, Tommy's mother, quickly form a connection as they fight to foil Secundus' plan (which involves repeatedly pushing people aside and stealing their cars). Like any good 90's B-movie, it all builds to an epic confrontation in an abandoned factory. Abraxas and Secundus will do battle once more to decide the fate of the universe or Canada or New York or Minnesota, we don't know. This week we bring back a familiar character in the "Art and Jacob Universe. Jesse Ventura. This is his story where he had to defend his reputation and honor against an Iraq War veteran and hero to many...Chris Kyle. When Chris Kyle wrote his New York Times best selling book "American Sniper" he had a subchapter where he states he punches out a former SEAL who was talking negatively about the Iraq War and that the SEALS 'deserved to lose men'. Kyle then went on a media tour where he revealed that this former SEAL was Jesse Ventura.... Problem was this turned out not to be true and Jesse Ventura sued Kyle for defamation and Undue Enrichment due to Kyle's fabricated story. Kyle would be murdered in the middle of the life of this case and the lawsuit was then transferred to his estate. However, the media would spin this as Ventura suing Kyle's grieving wife. But the jury would side with Ventura as it came out that Kyle's Publisher's insurance would cover the lawsuit . However the damage was done (temporarily) as Ventura was seen as a bully and treasonous by many in the military and conservative America...only to be redeemed years later as many of Chris Kyle's claims in his book would prove to be false. The dynamics of politics and pro wrestling have been fascinating to watch this summer. First, the Republican National Convention was headlined by Hulk Hogan speaking where he endorsed Donald Trump. Now, weeks later it appears the Democrats have a response with another very high profile ex-wrestler. Jesse “The Body” Ventura. Ventura did as much for mainstreaming the industry as anyone in 1998 when he was elected Governor of Minnesota. The former Navy SEAL is now endorsing Vice President Harris and Governor Tim Walz. This comes two years after Ventura, a self described independent endorsed Walz for Governor.

Independent Political Strategist Bill Hillsman has masterminded some of the most effective and innovative election campaigns in the modern era. Hillsman first rocked the political world when he helped elect the late Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone in 1990 in one of the biggest political upsets in decades. In 1993, Hillsman took over a floundering Minneapolis mayoral campaign four weeks before election day, resulting in Sharon Sayles-Belton's election as the first African-American and the first woman mayor of Minneapolis, a city comprised of 85 percent white voters. He later shocked the world by helping Jesse “The Body” Ventura become Governor of Minnesota in 1998. When he joined independent candidate Ralph Nader during the 2000 election, his inventive campaign, created on a tiny budget, had the whole country talking and rethinking how we sell our politicians. He worked on independent campaigns for Arianna Huffington for Governor of California in 2003 and Kinky Friedman for Governor in Texas in 2006. And he created the groundbreaking and award-winning “Not There” television ad for Operation Truth (later Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America) featuring Iraq veteran and amputee, Robert Acosta. Bill's innovative creative work has brought him a host of awards, including a Grand EFFIE for the Wellstone campaign. Both USA Today and Business Week named his Wellstone commercials the best political ads of 1990 and his Ventura commercials were honored with five POLLIE Awards from the American Association of Political Consultants. A master of effective TV Ads, marketing and branding, Bill is CEO of North Woods Advertising and has been working in independent politics for a generation–and understands independents better than anyone in America. And for decades, Bill has been a man on a mission to change our political system. His book Run The Other Way is an eye-opening look at the political landscape with a cast of characters that includes Colin Powell, Ross Perot, Donald Trump, Kinky Friedman and Warren Beatty. And with independents in the driver's seat to determine the 2024 Presidential election (and the future of our country) Bill is a wise and experienced leader we all need to hear from. He joins our host Paul Rieckhoff (@PaulRieckhoff) in this latest episode to share what can be learned from Ventura's campaign 25 years later, how he defines an independent voter, how he sees them defining themselves, and gives an assessment of the entire independent movement landscape ranging from No Labels and Forward to Robert F Kennedy Jr and Cornel West. And Paul asks Bill who he thinks will win the election—and they talk a little baseball and more. No other show is digging into all things independent politics like we are. Every episode of Independent Americans hosted by author, activist and social entrepreneur Paul Rieckhoff is the truth beyond the headlines–and light to contrast the heat of other politics and news shows. With WrestleMania XL coming up this weekend in Philadelphia, we are happy to bring to you in this week's "best of" one of our favorite shows we covered in our first Pilot Month back in 2020. "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and Jesse "The Body" Ventura play a pair of ex-wrestlers turned cops in an hour of action-packed mayhem! We almost got this as a series if not for financial issues involving the studio that produced this pilot (sigh).
Welcome to Cyberpunk Cinema – the Definitive Dive into the Dark Future of Science Fiction. I am your host, Anthony La Pira, and I will be taking you on a cinematic journey through the sprawling cityscapes, the crippling datastorms, and the cybernetic implants that encompass all things Cyberpunk. In this week's episode, I will be breaking-down the 1987 dystopian cyberpunk action film, The Running Man – directed by Paul Michael Glaser, written by Steven de Souza, based on the novel by Stephen King, and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Maria Conchita Alonso, Yaphet Kotto, Jim Brown, Jesse THE BODY Ventura, and Richard Dawson. In a dystopian America, a falsely convicted policeman gets his shot at freedom when he must forcibly participate in a TV game show where convicts, runners, must battle killers for their freedom. This movie absolutely rocks! It's one of Arnold's better films that no one really talks about. The dystopian cyberpunk vibes are high on this bad boy, as Ben Richards, the Butcher of Bakersfield, must survive a rigged TV game show that has captured the hearts and minds of the future America of 2017. Chased by “stalkers”, the game show contestants can earn their freedom and get a pardon, if they don't die first. So, do me a favor – it's time to access your cranial jacks, boot up your Ono-Sendai Cyberspace 7, and slap on your damn mirror-shades. You can watch the VIDEO version of this episode here: Retro Movie Geek: Ep. 330 - The Running Man (1987) Movie Review (youtube.com) On this episode, the Retro Movie Geek crew is joined by Chris "The Seavage" Seaver (check out more from Chris here, here, and here), and they're geeking out over The Running Man (1987) and Arnold and the cast Arnold and his one-liners a short PSA about queefing over-the-top fun-filled action and much, much more! Synopsis: Arnold Schwarzenegger is running for his life in the high-tech futuristic action-adventure The Running Man. Co-starring Maria Conchita Alonso, Yaphet Kotto, Dweezil Zappa, Mick Fleetwood, Jim Brown, Jesse “The Body” Ventura and, in a critically acclaimed performance, Family Feud host Richard Dawson. The year is 2019. Television is now ruling people's lives. In the 21st Century, the most popular “audience participation” game show is “The Running Man” - where convicts can win pardons instead of “parting gifts”, by defeating murderous henchmen known as “stalkers”. The stalkers haven't had much of a challenge lately... until Ben Richards came along. Wrongly convicted of slaughtering 1500 innocent people, Richards is the next contestant to fight for his life... and his freedom. In case you missed it, newly-self-proclaimed independent RFK Jr. floated some VP names. Aaron Rodgers and Jesse Ventura. Exactly what the independent movement does NOT need. And our Paul Rieckhoff is going to dig into why. He'll also share the backstory behind why Kennedy's involvement in a scheduled panel at the South By Southwest conference on independents led to its implosion. This episode was supposed to be a recording of that panel–but that's changed. And you'll hear the full story. And, Rieckoff reacts to the news that dozens of artists are boycotting the same convention because the US Army is a sponsor and reflects on 4 years since COVID shut down America. Every episode of Independent Americans hosted by Paul Rieckhoff is the truth beyond the headlines–and light to contrast the heat of other politics and news shows. It's content for the 49% of Americans that proudly call themselves independent. And it always delivers the Righteous Media 5 Is: independence, integrity, information, inspiration and impact. Just some of this week's political happenings -- The Trump-appointed prosecutor who questioned the President's memory has his own memory losses when questioned by Congress The President returns to Michigan in what will become a recurring political story for our state Donald Trump weighs in on the Republican race for U.S. senate, endorsing a candidate who once called Trump's political tactics “destructive”. A group of state House Democrats are once again introducing comprehensive financial disclosure legislation, disclosures that go far beyond the minimalist requirements enacted last year in response to the 2022 ballot proposal enacted by voters. Leading the charge for putting teeth into the law is Representative Erin Byrnes (D-Dearborn), chair of the House Committee on Ethics and Oversight. Rep. Byrnes is serving her first term representing the west end of Dearborn and Dearborn Heights. She earned a bachelor's from the University of Michigan and went on to graduate school in New York City, where she served as a middle school special education teacher and took classes in the evening. After returning home to be close to family and serve her community, Rep. Byrnes continued her work as an educator at the University of Michigan in 2011 and completed the Michigan Political Leadership Program at Michigan State University in 2015. She's served as a member of the Dearborn City Council since 2018 and most recently as council president pro tem. Trump jumps onto the third rail of politics: Social Security/Medicare. “There's something out there waiting for us, and it ain't no man. We're all going to die.”After the huge success of Rocky IV in 1985, screenwriters Jim and John Thomas saw an opportunity for another Rocky film where he'd have to fight an alien, calling it "Rocky vs Predator." They developed the idea into a script titled "Hunter" about a group of alien hunters looking for the most dangerous prey. Unable to get interest, they slipped it under producer Michael Levy's door who loved it. Levy brought it to producer Joel Silver who also loved it. Silver brought in action star Arnold Schwarzenegger, who suggested changing it from one man against the creature to a team for more dynamics. Director John McTiernan was hired for his first studio film. With a budget under $20 million and filming in the jungles of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Predator began production.Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we continue the 1988 Academy Awards Best Visual Effects Nominees series with a conversation about Predator. Here's a hint at what we talk about:We discuss the excellent creature design and visual effects that still hold up today in making the cloaked Predator feel dangerous and threatening. The story structure shifts cleverly from a military rescue mission to sci-fi horror when the alien arrives. We admire the directing style of McTiernan in generating tension and fear. Character dynamics are touched on, along with some problematic elements. Here are a few other points in our discussion: Memorable one-liners and quips from Schwarzenegger Contrast of the special forces team against the advanced alien Discussion of problematic Indigenous American and female character tropes Always hoping for more from Jesse “The Body” Ventura's character Predator succeeds at being an enthralling, action-packed cinema ride. He's also dropping some 411 on the legalization of marijuana, why he's such an advocate, and what it took to write his latest book, "The Marijuana Manifesto."
He also shares the story of his color commentary start, and explains the heat behind the controversy he created during a match with Koco B. Ware.
This week, Brian was accosted by an uncontrollable horde of children at a movie theater and relives his trauma as he breaks it down with Frank. We learn about how police dogs work (shoutout to Louie Stravato!) and find out they're probably not the best animal to bring to "Show and Tell." We also start talking about how and why Jesse "The Body" Ventura is an advocate for the legalization of marijuana Visit our website for all links: www.StonerDadPodcast.com SUPPORT the podcast by joining our Patreon and get access to a special extra episode a week! www.patreon.com/StonerDadPodcast BREAKING NEWS - MANSCAPED® NOW SELLS BEARD PRODUCTS!!!!!
