Wildfires near Austin continue burning: the Big Sky fire near Fredericksburg has burned nearly 1,500 acres and is 60% contained, the Smoke Rider fire near Dripping Springs burns on as well, now having consumed 1,200 acres and several homes with 70% containment, and a third wildfire has forced evacuations near Wimberley. Austin Fire is pleading with local smokers to keep their lit butts inside their cars. Following the lead of several other Texas cities including Austin, San Marcos city officials announce that their police department will not investigate violations of new abortion bans in Texas. The Alex Jones jury has delivered a verdict, awarding the parents of Sandy Hook shooting victim Jesse Lewis's parents $4.1 million - they had sought $150 million. Two more trials to go for Jones. As of Thursday, Austin has set its third-longest streak for consecutive triple-digit days at 20. Forecast models are predicting a chance of rain this weekend, and Colorado State is predicting potential hurricane relief for Central Texas. We'll believe it when we see it. City officials are considering September as a good starting point for the first pilot run of Austin's guaranteed income program, the first to be tried in Texas. The city is also calling for input on how it should manage Austin's homelessness situation. Local animal shelters, facing overcrowding, are struggling to adhere to Austin's standards as a no-kill city. Austin has been ranked #1 on a new list of cities measured by lowest carbon footprint. Meanwhile Brewing will host a book fair titled "Lagers and Literature" on August 28 to benefit the Inside Books Project, featuring pop-ups by the Austin Public Library, the Harry Ransom Center, Typewriter Rodeo and more. Cameron "Dicker The Kicker" has left the building - leaving a gaping hole in Texas Football's special teams plans. Amidst ongoing drought conditions, wildfires have been popping up all over the area, and Jacob's Well in Wimberley has stopped flowing, for only the fourth time in recorded history. Day two of the Alex Jones Sandy Hook trial ended with lawyers for the opposing sides squaring off over video evidence from Jones' InfoWars show, resulting in the jury being dismissed early. Austin's residential real estate market shows signs of a cooldown, including dropping prices and rising inventory - however, no relief is yet in sight for renters, as prices continue to rise amidst tight inventory. Speaking of tough times for renters - the Austin Animal Center credits a wave of evictions for overcrowding at its shelter, as renters are forced to give up their pets. On the Austin City Council's extensive agenda today: considering a return of the Austin Police Department's use of license plate readers, and codifying the exact parameters that make an establishment a "live music venue". The nonprofit Urban Alchemy has been contracted to run the ARCH homeless shelter in downtown Austin - their experience in the area is under some doubt. The parent company of Spectrum has found itself owing $7 billion - billion, with a "b" - in punitive damages stemming from a case in which one of its technicians murdered an elderly customer in Irving. Float Fest made its return last weekend with a stellar lineup of artists - and a litany of problems. Texas is ranked #1 in the United States for production of renewable energy. Bummed about the end of Choco Tacos? We know a place in Austin where you can still get one. Weekend live music: Friday shows include Cat Power at Emo's, A.R. Adding insult to injury, the current historic heat wave has also resulted in the worst air quality in Central Texas in a decade. Meanwhile, ERCOT's chief is concerned about the ability of Texas' older power generators to keep up with the ongoing record demand for power this summer. Austin Public Health declares that monkeypox has achieved community spread in Austin. Meanwhile, COVID-19 risk remains at Medium level for Travis County, and hospitalizations continue tracking upward - as of yesterday at 159, up from 68 one month ago. Friends of an elderly cyclist who died in a hit-and-run crash in March are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. The director of Austin's Office of Civil Rights remains on paid leave following an investigation that appears to confirm employee allegations of a hostile work environment. Trash collection schedules have been moved earlier to allow workers to avoid the worst of the afternoon heat - we're now asked to have containers on the curb by 5:30am. A new poll commissioned by the Austin Monitor shows deep division in Austin over police spending and public safety, and that Austinites are dissatisfied with local government - and keen to vote in November. Lawyers for Alex Jones want to bar any mention of white supremacism or extremism from the cupcoming trial to determine how much he owes the families of Sandy Hook shooting victims whom he defamed. Meanwhile, his ex-wife Kelly Jones claims to have "insider info" which she's volunteering to the House Select Committee on the January 6 insurrection. A stretch of West Sixth Street, roughly the block east of Clark's Oyster Bar, is being eyeballed for a vertical mixed-use makeover. Saturday catch the Rebirth Brass Band at the Far Out Lounge, Atmosphere at Stubb's, Coheed and Cambria at Waterloo Amphitheater, and Kenny Wayne Shepherd at ACL Live. The school shooting at Uvalde has left behind unbelievable grief and shock across Texas. Some families of victims were made to wait hours before being told of their child's condition. You'll hear 3 VERY different perspectives on each of these venues and how you can help to save our stages so we can bring back live music safely and responsibly. To talk about this or anything on the podcast, find me on instagram at @atxconcertqueen or shoot me an email at hello@atxconcertqueen.com and please rate, review and subscribe to Please enjoy this very informative and eye-opening show about our Austin music venues and if you could please rate, review and share this episode with others! 4:37 The Beginning of the Pandemic in Austin6:30The Economics of Booking Concerts at Music Venues8:52Closing of Barracuda, One-2-One, Plush, Scratchouse11:05Three Different Austin Venue Perspectives 11:16  Venue #1 - Far Out Lounge - Lawrence12:26 Texas 51% Food Rule 14:03 The Far Out Lounge Compliance Standards16:23How to Support Far Out16:48NIVA vs. Austin Music Venue Donations Directly17:13Venue #2 - Empire Control Room & Garage - Aaron Owens17:23Update on Parish Venue - Podcast/Recording Studio18:15Empire Safety Protocols20:40Attending Shows Solo21:30Beginning Livestreaming/Live Show Hybrid22:12Why Tickets in general are more expensive for Shows23:52How to Support Empire24:30Venue #3 - Antone's - Mallory Ferro25:29Operating as an Indoor Music Venue 26:04Comedy Night at Antone's - Kill Tony podcast27:28The “Cliffie” Dog28:39How Antone's Is Giving Back To The Community30:34 Ways to Support Antone's31:25Bonus Venue: How to Support ACL LiveHost: Clarissa Cardenas - IG: https://www.instagram.com/atxconcertqueen/Website: http://www.theconcertqueen.com Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/theconcertqueenVenmo: https://account.venmo.com/u/Concert-QueenMake sure to tune in every Wednesday for a new episode of the “Concert Queen Connect” and make sure to ‘like' and ‘subscribe' to our channel:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbNiyZMWKbK2pH4J2rdj69Q?sub_confirmation=1Listen to our podcast:Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/concert-queen-connect/id1538535270Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/6y3m5SLW5CnBvBpvh7cXgT?si=dN1Vlr9eQf2diQFrPIffugProducer: Steve Souza (http://www.souzamedia.com) IG : https://www.instagram.com/the.souz/

Jakob Dylan has been playing music for more than 30 years, touring all over the world and winning two Grammys with his band The Wallflowers. He’s released two solo albums and most recently he collaborated with his longtime manager Andrew Slater on the film and project called Echo in the Canyon, which celebrates the music that came out of LA’s Laurel Canyon in the mid-1960s. Jakob’s been surrounded by music his entire life, but that doesn’t make it any easier when you sit down alone to write a song. In this conversation Jakob and I talk a lot about his songwriting process, where inspiration comes from & why we both think it’s important to share encouragement with others. Jakob and I spoke somewhere in the basement of ACL Live at the Moody Theater, located off of Willie Nelson Blvd in Austin.

Kingdom of Rock - Helping DIY Musicians and Music Entrepreneurs with Business

Ryan Roxie (L) and Alice Cooper perform in concert at ACL Live on February 12, 2015 in Austin, Texas. Ryan Roxie, Alice Cooper This was originally shared on Facebook live, and Instagram live. This week on Kingdom of Rock, guitarist Matt Gibson spoke with longtime Alice Cooper guitarist Ryan Roxie. Ryan Roxie began playing with Alice Cooper for what began as a year long tour over 20 years ago. Ryan wants you to know, rock-n-roll isn't dead. Unless it's dead in your mind. 20 year old kids are still showing up to Alice Cooper shows, singing every word. pProof that rock-n-roll is alive and well. Special guest Nita Strauss, drops in to say hello to Ryan and Matt. Ryan Roxie talks about his experience in the 1990's band Electric Angels out of LA. Lost in the Atlantic is an album recorded with Atlantic records in the early 90's that was never released, until now that is. The first album was recorded in 1987.   Takeaways: Your song isn't a product, it's a promotional tool. The revenue streams have been siphoned from the traditional model. The song is no longer king. People expect to hear your art for free, and buying the art isn't necessary. The albums that Ryan has sold the most copies is because  he has built a personal relationship with his fan-base. He stands outside venues before and after shows, shaking hands, taking selfies. Relational promotion. Learn guitar through your hero. The goal is to eventually write your own music. On Playalongmusic.com (Best of Alice Cooper series) Ryan Roxie teaches the 5 most popular Alice Cooper songs. https://playalongmusic.com/videolessons?view=video&typeId=30&productId=4239#prod_li_4239 Rock-n-Roll 101-Ryan Roxie explains the basics for guitar. The blueprint four guitar-the newest in the Ryan Roxie education series-learn a song in four days, and learn guitar in four months. https://www.playalongmusic.com/ryan-roxie So many musicians are used to living in crisis. Matt Gibson asks Ryan Roxie how to position yourself as a musician for more opportunities. Lots of players spend time learning their craft, but how much energy do musicians put into learning the music business? What musicians don't realize is they need to be their own managers also. If you can find a manager once you're in the position of needing management, do it. If not, listen to this podcast. Alice cooper has had one manager in his career. Then the manager gets to create opportunities while the band gets to deliver soul punching music every night. Until we can all be like Ryan Roxie, manage yourself. Amanda is a DIY musician, recording her second album called Organ Donor. Her sophomore album is a reflection of her experience struggling through heroin addiction and her transformation into the light of recovery. http://amandabocchi.com
