Few things are more influential upon your Christian life than the local church to which you belong. In fact, the most important things about you... what you believe about God, about Jesus Christ, about the gospel, about eternity, etc... these things are largely shaped by the church that you belong to. So being part of a healthy church is very important. With that said, the million dollar question that follows is this: How do I know if I'm in a healthy church? What does a healthy church look like? What does an unhealthy church look like?In this episode, James and I spend some time looking at the Scriptures to show what are some of the marks of healthy and unhealthy churches. The modern version of church is not exactly unBiblical, but the things we are told to do when we fellowship with believers are usually not easily done in the religious services and organizations that have become so normal. Those who run such institutions tend to label those who fellowship in homes as rebellious or at risk of heresy, but what if the home is actually the better option for Biblical fellowship? All of the Bible News Press recordings are hosted on The Happy Homeschool website. What this shows us is that unbiblical movements recycle through church history under new names. The terminology may change—Latter Rain, Apostolic Reformation, prophetic movement—but the core errors remain the same: an undermining of the sufficiency of Scripture, an elevation of human leaders who claim new revelation, and a fixation on power and experience over the gospel of Christ crucified.Scripture warns us repeatedly about this pattern. Ecclesiastes says, “There is nothing new under the sun.” And Paul reminds Timothy that people will accumulate teachers to suit their own passions, wandering off into myths. Our responsibility as believers is not to chase after every so-called new move of the Spirit, but to test everything by the Word of God. As John commands in 1 John 4:1: “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.”The story of the Latter Rain and its modern revival in the NAR teaches us a sobering lesson: whenever the church neglects the sufficiency of Scripture and the finality of Christ's work, we open the door for counterfeit authority and recycled heresy. But the good news is this: Christ remains the cornerstone. The Word of God remains the foundation. And the gospel remains the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.

When examined carefully, then, the doctrine of territorial spirits proves to be unbiblical in origin, flawed in theology, and misleading in practice. It exaggerates the reality of demonic power while diminishing the sufficiency of Christ's triumph. It burdens believers with strategies God never commanded, while distracting them from the simplicity of the gospel and the ordinary means of grace—Word, sacrament, prayer, and fellowship. The church does indeed live in the midst of spiritual conflict. But our hope is not in mapping demonic territories or staging spiritual offensives. Our hope is in Jesus Christ, who has already triumphed, who reigns at the right hand of the Father, and who will return to make all things new. In the meantime, we are called not to chase after territorial spirits but to proclaim the gospel, love our neighbors, and stand firm in the armor of God.

The New Apostolic Reformation, we must conclude that its history is rooted not in the apostolic witness of Scripture but in a modern reimagining of authority. Its theology distorts the kingdom into a project of human conquest. Its proponents promote experiences over truth, and its practice undermines the very freedom of the gospel. The church is called not to chase after new apostles and prophets, but to remain steadfast in “the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints.”As Christians, our task is not to seize the mountains of cultural dominion but to take up the cross and follow Christ in humility, holiness, and hope. True reform is not found in self-proclaimed apostles but in a faithful return to God's Word, where the voice of the Good Shepherd still speaks with final authority.

In Philippi, Paul, far from the travel, persecution, and beatings of his life, could have kicked back and rested, rejoicing in the spread of the gospel. Yet, he exhorts us to follow his example.:"Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. 15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you; 16 however, let us keep living by that same standard to which we have attained." Success is never Final.Failure is never Fatal. It is Courage (Faith) that Counts. This phase, attributed to Winston Churchill, is not from the Bible, but it is Biblical and encouraging. “But if I am to live on in the flesh, this will mean fruitful labor for me; and I do not know which to choose.” Philippians 1:22“Not that I have already obtained it, or have already become perfect, but I press on in order that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:12“For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; 8 in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:6-8Our So What?Success is never final, failure is never fatal; it is courage (faith) that counts. Today's episode is a thunderclap for the soul. We're not talking about one celebrity on a ball field; we're talking about the battle raging in our churches—the silent coup infiltrating our pulpits, poisoning faith from within.Host Paul Neuberger rips the mask off comfortable Christianity. Unbiblical preachers. Spiritual deception. Churches trading conviction for applause. Paul says it plain: If your church avoids sin, repentance, and holiness, it isn't biblical. If your pastor fears man more than God, it's time to walk out.The world is dark because the light dimmed. But Jesus is still Lord—even when pulpits get soft. The question isn't, “Is your pastor bold?” The question is—are you? What will you do when your moment comes?Buckle up. This episode's bold, blunt, and anchored in Scripture. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. (2 Timothy 4:3-4). Key Takeaways:05:46 - A church that does not preach repentance is not a biblical church. A church that avoids talking about sin is not a biblical church. A church that affirms lifestyles clearly condemned in scripture is not a biblical church. And a church that tries to make the gospel popular will always make it powerless. Jesus didn't die to make us comfortable. He died to make us holy.09:28 - Nationwide, we have pastors denying the deity of Christ, churches hosting drag queen events in their sanctuaries, entire denominations rewriting scripture to affirm what God calls abomination. And many Christians, even sincere ones, are sitting under this false teaching without even knowing it. Why? Because we don't test the spirits anymore. We don't compare what's being preached to what's in the word. We care more about how a sermon makes us feel than what it calls us to do. But make no mistake, Jesus ain't a fool. He's not going to tolerate wolves who lead his sheep astray.12:40 - Luke 9:23 is the quintessential heartbeat of Christianity. It says this: Then he said to them all, whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. But you never hear that in some churches today. Why? Because deny yourself doesn't fill the seats. Because take up your cross doesn't lead to mega church campuses. Because follow me requires submission and that doesn't sell books. Instead, we get a watered down gospel, a neutered gospel, a safe gospel. But listen to me when I tell you the real gospel isn't safe, it's sacred. The real gospel will confront you before it comforts you. It'll wound you before it heals you. It will crucify your flesh before it brings you new life.Connect with Paul NeubergerWebsite

Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar are joined by Dr. Greg Gifford, Assistant Professor of Biblical Counseling at The Master's University and author of a new book that challenges the roots of modern psychology from a biblical perspective. As a counselor, Greg has noticed oddities in therapy methods that often fail to address the root of the issue for Christians. Instead of demonizing individuals or dismissing therapy completely, Greg encourages believers to explore how psychology and psychiatry differ, what Scripture says about the mind and soul, and how biblical counseling provides a Christ-centered alternative to mainstream therapeutic practices.Biblical counseling views the Bible as the ultimate authority, contrasting with secular therapy that places the self as the highest truth. A key issue raised is the confusion between mind and brain. The mind is connected to the inner person—the heart, thoughts, and soul—while the brain is part of the physical body. Using medication to treat the brain may relieve symptoms, but if no physical cause is identified, the believer should be open to spiritual self-examination and repentance. Greg urges listeners to seek out certified biblical counselors who base their guidance on the authority of God's Word. Red flags in counseling include seeking advice from those who do not share a biblical worldview, as they could mislead rather than direct toward Christ.E.Z. raises the topic of shame, which is often avoided in today's culture but is understood biblically as a way to guide one toward repentance. The aim is not to remove shame entirely but to let it serve its purpose in the process of confession, repentance, and restoration. Greg's nuanced perspective recognizes that people can suffer deeply but challenges the modern labeling of it as a disease of the mind. Understanding the difference between brain and mind is essential. Christians are encouraged to consider whether their reliance on medication is covering up deeper spiritual needs. The Bible addresses restlessness, identity, and suffering, offering hope and healing that secular therapy cannot provide.Toward the end, Mark asks a bold question about the blind spots in biblical counseling. Greg responds by urging the church to focus not only on critiquing secular approaches but also on addressing the root causes of issues. The conversation ends with a reminder that Christians are not defined by their diagnoses or struggles—they are defined by Christ. Greg encourages listeners to be skeptical not of truth but of man-centered approaches that fail to rely on the sufficiency of Scripture.Send us a textThanks for listening! Communism's rise began with Karl Marx, who introduced the idea of class struggle and critiqued capitalism in response to industrial-era poverty. Marx envisioned a classless society but as Ray, E.Z., Mark, and Oscar point out, his philosophy extended beyond economics—it was rooted in atheism. Oscar shares how his first introduction to atheism came through Marxist economic literature, which proposed a godless utopia. Communism eventually took root in Russia and China, spreading fear of lost democracy. The guys note that socialism is often viewed as a bridge to communism, but a pure communist society has never existed due to the corrupting nature of human power. The conversation emphasizes that capitalism, while often defended, is not flawless either. The gospel—not any man-made system—is the only sufficient answer to the world's brokenness. Communism mimics Christianity in its pursuit of equality but rejects God's sovereignty and misunderstands human nature. It promotes forced sharing instead of joyful stewardship. The guys agree: any ideology that excludes God becomes idolatry, offering a counterfeit redemption story. In contrast, the gospel leads people to good works driven by love, not compulsion. Scripture affirms the dignity of work and personal responsibility.Oscar walks through how communism promises a classless utopia but fails because of a flawed view of the human condition. Power concentrated in godless hands leads to abuse. Those at the top of communist regimes often live in luxury while preaching sacrifice. The guys stress that human-led systems can't fix spiritual problems—only Christ can. They caution against defending capitalism blindly and urge believers to examine economic systems through a gospel-centered lens, digging deep into these issues before taking a firm stance. Mark shares a powerful story of a prisoner in a communist regime who endured torture but clung to Christ, reminding us that no one can steal what we've surrendered to God. E.Z. recounts seeing the effects of communism in Cuba, yet witnessing thriving Christians. The guys remind us that God's will is unstoppable. Even in North Korea where the gospel is not easily accessed, people have found ways to evangelize. Real change won't come through politicians or ideologies but through Jesus. Love—the fruit of the gospel—is the answer to every societal dilemma. When we walk in love, we don't seek loopholes or act out of greed. The only true solution to both capitalism's flaws and communism's promises is the gospel: Christ crucified, risen, and reigning.Send us a textThanks for listening! Navigating family relationships when you disagree with your family's church choice is one of the most challenging situations Christians face. Pastor Heath Lambert provides biblical wisdom for this delicate balance between family loyalty and theological convictions. Using the framework of theological triage, this episode helps believers understand when to compromise, when to stand firm, and how love should guide every decision in church conflicts.TIMESTAMPS0:00 - Introduction: The Family Church Dilemma0:39 - The Question: Attending Unbiblical Churches for Family Unity1:49 - Why This Question Matters: Children and Family Dynamics2:51 - Understanding Biblical vs Unbiblical: Not All Errors Are Equal3:06 - Theological Triage: Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Issues4:05 - Primary Issues: Salvation-Essential Doctrines4:55 - Secondary Issues: Important but Not Salvation-Critical5:16 - Baptism Example: Baptist vs Presbyterian Practices6:46 - Tertiary Issues: End Times and Christian Disagreements8:17 - The Law of Love: 1 John 4:7 as the Ultimate Guide8:53 - Pride vs Conviction: Testing Our Motivations9:26 - When Love Means Compromise vs When Love Means Standing Firm10:13 - Final Answer: It Depends on Error Type and Love's DirectionKEY POINTSThe Reality of Family Church Conflicts: Christians often find themselves where their theological convictions differ from their family's church choice, creating tension between honoring family and maintaining biblical faithfulness.Theological Triage Framework: Not all biblical errors are equally serious. Churches can be "unbiblical" in different ways requiring different responses - understanding this hierarchy helps believers respond appropriately.Primary Issues - Salvation Essential: Doctrines so central that denying them prevents salvation, like salvation by grace through faith alone. Churches with primary errors should generally be avoided regardless of family pressure.Secondary Issues - Important but Not Salvation-Critical: Matters affecting church practice but not salvation, like baptism methods. Faithful Christians can disagree while remaining in fellowship.Tertiary Issues - Ongoing Christian Disagreements: Matters where good Christians disagree until Christ returns, like millennium details. These shouldn't divide churches or families. The Law of Love as the Ultimate Test: Love for both family and God must guide decisions. Love sometimes requires compromise on preferences, other times demands taking a stand for essential truth.Submit your questions for future episodes to MarkedbyGrace@fbcjax.comSCRIPTURE REFERENCES1 John 4:7 - "Beloved, let us love one another" - The law of love as the guiding principle for all theological and relational decisionsActs 5:29 - "We must obey God rather than men" - Referenced principle for when obedience to God requires standing against family pressure

These principles are illustrated through Moses, Deuteronomy chapter 34, Elijah 2 Kings 2, and Paul in 2 Timothy 4.Our So What?"Success is never final, failure is never fatal, it is courage, (faith) that counts. 5/28/22025 Luke 19:41 Hatred Of Israel Today Intro: Most people call it Anti-semitism…..what is a Semite? A person who speak a Semitic language, including Jews and Arabs. Semita is the latin for the Greek word “Sem” or “Shem” a son of Noah in the Bible who these people are supposedly descended. Semitic people is an ethnic or racial group associated with people of the Middle East including Arabs, Jews, Akkadians and Pheonicians. Descendents of Shem included Hebrews, Aramaeans, Assyrians and Arabs. Any groups who speak a Semitic language. My point…..It's not Antisemitism…… it's Anti-Hebraism. Anti-Judaism. Anti- Sons of Jacob, Anti-Jewish people. And it has infected the whole world including the modern day church! Many national podcasts and national conservative Christian broadcasters are Anti-Jewish people. Blaming Jews for all the trouble in the world. This is not acceptable with God. Genesis 12:3 I will bless them that bless thee. Psalm 122:6 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

Segment 1 • Todd discusses the common practice of eulogizing those who have passed. • Can we eulogize the Pope? The Roman Catholic system is unbiblical, but we can still examine it critically. • The Catholic system still promotes works-based salvation, despite some abandoning it. The issue remains: how do we get to heaven? Segment 2 • Research shows majority agree with climate change, but the real issue lies in theology. • Catholics believe Mary was born sinless, a doctrine that emerged in the 1800s, but this contradicts the Bible. • Jesus is the one mediator between God and man; Mary doesn't share in that role, regardless of her suffering. Segment 3 • Good news: John MacArthur is feeling better and ready to return to the pulpit. • Dr. Greg Gifford tackles the issue of religious scrupulosity—feeling guilty doesn't mean you're guilty. • Understanding true guilt versus feeling guilty can be liberating. Segment 4 • A father in Colorado and others are challenging the power of school boards and educators. • Fathers are standing up, saying, "We're heading down an irreversible path"—why aren't more men speaking up? • Celeste Diest, a student in California, challenges the lack of action from men in defending their children's future. ___ Thanks for listening! As Moses stands before Israel, they all look to him to solve their problems. This expectation to place all weight upon a leader is what Jethro calls "not good", beckoning back to the Garden of Eden. Today, we are still making the same mistake, weighing down certain members of the Body of Christ with enormous responsibility without realizing it. But it robs us, because it is also our blessing to give and serve, and God wants to use us in ministry like never before - to lift the burdens. In this teaching, PD discusses the Biblical idea of ministry, and how exercising it brings freedom to ourselves and others. The Real David Platt, a documentary produced by the Church Reform Initiative, was recently released, exposing problems that have arisen at McLean Bible Church. The megachurch near Washington D.C. has grappled with many challenges since David Platt assumed its helm. David Platt, the acclaimed author of Radical, is what some would call a “celebrity pastor.” But what has become of McLean - the once vibrant, biblically grounded church – after the celebrity's arrival? The answer appears disturbing. The documentary reveals alarming insights and trends that began with David's arrival and continue to the present day. Unbiblical teachings like Critical Race Theory (CRT) were championed while concerned congregants were told CRT was not being taught. The congregational church was assured McLean was not affiliating with the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) – which would violate their church constitution – while leaders quietly affiliated with the SBC. The gaslighting was real. And so was the damage inflicted on what had been a bastion for effective biblical orthodoxy.   Since the documentary first aired, few voices have spoken up about it. Some that did simply dismissed the claims made, insisting those interviewed were sour grapes. They were disgruntled and petty. This was just normal church politics. We're not so sure. Joining Andy on the Christian Emergency Podcast to discuss why is Pastor Shane Pennington. Armed with a rich background in Christian leadership and international missions, Shane offers sound insights into the takeover of McLean Bible Church and its ramifications. The footage aired showcases a flock being deceived by its own leadership. Corruption, dark money and narcissism all play starring roles in this sordid tale. And the manipulation and spiritual abuse are patterns that all churches need to recognize if their fellowships are going to be shielded from similar stunts. Today's conversation on Back Porch Theology is part two with my dear friend, Kristi McClelland, because she's kind of like a hot Krispy Kreme donut, one simply isn't enough! Kristi's a best-selling Bible teacher, author, and college professor – but I think the most fitting description of her is “revival coach” because she's so saturated with Jesus that if you get anywhere near her, Gospel joy will inevitably slosh out on you! However, I should probably issue a good-natured warning before we dive in and let you know that Kristi and I are both very energetic, fast-talking windbags when it comes to matter of faith so you might want to tighten your seatbelts for this proverbial ride through all things redemptive because we'll likely careen from raving about the beef jerky at Bucees to the practical theology of A.W. Frankly, if you're listening to this while on a Peloton, you might pause and unclip out of those fancy biking shoes for a while because this isn't going to be a passive-listening kind of podcast – it's more of a hands in the air, hollering with glee gabfest because we're exposing the difference between the performative, sin-avoidant, stale kind of religion some of us were brought up in and the vibrant, life-giving, Spirit-filled reality that an intimate relationship with Jesus gives us access to.
