Alyson Leigh Rosenfeld returns to TALK TIME LIVE for the first time since 2016 to talk about her latest role as Lunamarie Hawke in the latest anime film Gundam Seed: Freedom (out now on Netflix along with Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny). We talk about the movie as well as catching up with everything she has been up to since she last appeared on the show. Check it out and enjoy this very fun edition of A.C.M.G. presents TALK TIME LIVE podcast.
Weekly Suit Gundam makes its triumphant return to review the long-awaited Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, the film sequel to the first Gundam anime of the 21st century: Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny. We are big fans of the original SEED on this podcast, and were driven slightly insane by Destiny, so seeing director Mitsuo Fukuda and the original cast and crew come back together for a final adventure, based on story material left behind by the late Chiaki Morosawa, is extremely cathartic, especially since the film they made is so astonishingly great. Now that it's finally dropped in the US on Netflix (albeit in a strange dub-only release – we would encourage listeners to, uh, *search elsewhere* for the original Japanese), we're free to talk about the film at length, diving into the incredible action, surprisingly potent storytelling, and how the movie finally does right by Kira, Lacus, Shinn, and all the other great characters left in tatters by Destiny. Enjoy, and join us next week for another bonus episode of Japanimation Station, where we'll be reviewing the Hashira Training Arc season of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. We're back after a few weeks off to talk about Gen Urobouchi's Obsolete, both the most normal mech anime ever made and a deeply strange one in terms of structure. The bright spot in talking about Gundam Seed is that at least the robots are cool. EXCEPT TODAY! Today there is no bright spot, no silver lining, no upside. We're here to talk about a machine that sucks with weapons that suck piloted by a character that sucks during a part of the show that sucks! I hate it here!!! Here is that Deus Ex video, and here is a folder of fake Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines food brands. If you want to find us on Twitter, Dylan is @lowpolyrobot and Six is @sixdettmar. Digipaint GMs! They're not as cool as normal GMs. Then again, that's a high bar, so what can you do. The Earth Alliance grunts of Seed, Stargazer, and Seed Destiny are here, and though there are definitely some losers in here, there are a surprising number of winners, too. Even when Seed's obsession with putting gundams everywhere takes over, it's actually pretty good! winning and freedom.... We conclude our Destiny review and as expected, not even SEED mode can save this plane from crashing. The back half is full of twists that don't make sense and super weapons that fire every few episodes for good measure. Lil' Djibril is more trigger happy than ever, Shin kills Captain McSacrifice, somehow Mwu returns, the writers assassinate Lunamaria's character, Yuna's plan falls flat, Destroy triggers the inverse ninja law, and Talia becomes the worst mom ever at the last minute. Plus, we contemplate obvious next steps for the upcoming SEED film: The Return of George Glenn: Revenge of the Whales!
We activate SEED mode once more and head back to the Cosmic Era to discuss the series everyone loves to hate - SEED Destiny! The series starts out strong with ruins of Junius 7 raining down on the Earth and Blue Cosmos exercising their quick nuclear trigger finger. However, we then nosedive into a rapid tailspin as Cagalli says yes to the dress, Jesus Yamato returns by sacrificing the entire new cast, Heine shows up just to die, Rey wastes our screen time, N-Jammer Cancellers disappear without a mention, and everyone refuses to use basic forms of communication to solve their problems. Come aboard our Destiny documentary flight, but bring your parachute because we are going down.
NOTE: There are some audio issues in the first half hour or so of the episode that were impossible to fix, I did all that I could but due to technical limitations, couldn't capture the full audio in some segements, and I apologize! We will try to do better next time :( In this 3 hour slug-fest of an episode - we're joined by recurring contributor and Co-Host of the podcast Monster Pop - Josh, and we're joined by Alex - Co-Host of the podcast MINDGAMEZ (I can now say I've had all 3 hosts in the Greenhouse now!) to discuss among the most controversial entries in the Gundam Series - namely Gundam SEED - and its sequel series - Gundam SEED Destiny. This is it. The finale to our SEED Destiny discussion and a questions still linger. How does this series rank when compared to others like Victory? Does Kenny still have rose tinted glasses? Is Shin worse than Katz?
Spiraling down the SEED Destiny path, the boys find themselves wanting to know how and why the series chose to progress the way it did. The question remains: is Shin as bad as Wufei?
This time, Coop and Dylan finish Macross Frontier's full-course meal of an ending with its final four episodes. Boy, it's a heavy meal. Our recurring Gundam Seed Destiny nightmare, lo-fi cooking anime to vibe to, the Mao Nome story we wanted to see, and our thoughts on how Frontier does or doesn't stick the landing come up in the conversation. First, a note. Geremy did some terrible math in this episode and got the ages of most of the cast of Destiny wrong and didn't realize it until he was editing the episode. So prepare for lots of jokes based on incorrect information. We're finally back to talking about Gundam SEED Destiny! Before we get to episode 40 though, we have to remember what the heck is going on. Is Durandal secretly Djibril? Who is Stella? Who's angry, who's sad and who's sangry? Give it a listen and we'll try to bring you (and ourselves) up to speed.

Two years ago today, our sister series podcast project Weekly Suit Gundam was born, and what a wild ride it's been! Just as we did on its first anniversary, we're using the show's birthday to take stock of everything we've reviewed up to now. With a particular focus on the “Year Two” shows – namely G Saviour, 0080: War in the Pocket, 0083: Stardust Memory, The 08th MS Team, Gundam SEED, Gundam SEED Destiny, Gundam 00, and MS IGLOO – we rank the best mobile suits and best songs from the series we reviewed this year, and adjust our master rankings for those topics from last year's anniversary show. For the main event, we each rank all 21 Gundam shows and movies we've reviewed these past two years, and then come together to create our complete, unified, official Weekly Suit Gundam series rankings thus far. With listener feedback, lots of reflections on the show's second year, and a roadmap for year 3, today's episode is a really fun trip down memory lane and a great start to the next, climactic phase of the series, as we inch closer to Gundam's present day. Today's episode is another Weekly Suit Gundam extravaganza, this time on the controversial Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny, but before that, we also discuss this week's abhorrent Presidentially-ordered insurrection at the US capital, and – in a lighter topic – Jonathan becoming infatuated with Genshin Impact, Sean's 2020 Game of the Year. Then it's on to Gundam SEED Destiny, a show that tries to be two different, contradictory shows at once: a challenging sequel questioning the assumptions and characters from the original, a la Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, and a straight-up sequel to SEED – Gundam SEED: Here We Go Again – and in the shuffle, somehow makes us hate the entire returning cast even while it buries and repeatedly does dirty its interesting new characters. The result is one of the most inept sequel stories ever told – but undeniably one of the most compelling to talk about. The day of reckoning has arrived – at last, it is time to review perhaps the most controversial show in the Gundam pantheon: Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny, the baffling, confounding, infuriating, utterly fascinating sequel to Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. Set two years later with both new and returning characters, Destiny tries to be two different, contradictory shows at once: a challenging sequel questioning the assumptions and characters from the original, a la Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, and a straight-up sequel to SEED – Gundam SEED: Here We Go Again – and in the shuffle, somehow makes us hate the entire returning cast even while it buries and repeatedly does dirty its interesting new characters. Why was Mobile Suit Gundam SEED a success here but not the United States? Daryl Surat and Jarvis Gray join me to explain, in yet another retrospective episode on anime that have had a unique cultural impact in Canada. (Honestly though, we spend more time ranting about Gundam SEED Destiny, how that show is unfairly lumped in with its predecessor and why you should NOT watch the new HD remastered version of either series under any circumstances whatsoever.) Matthew Erickson is one of the few voice actors who has worked (physically, at least) at both Ocean Studios locations. He made the leap from working at Blue Water Studios in Calgary to Westwood Studios in Vancouver, and is noted for his roles as Shinn Aska in Gundam SEED Destiny, Amuro Ray in Zeta Gundam and Trunks in the Blue Water dub of Dragonball GT. He joins me in this episode to talk about his experiences as a voice actor across two cities.

After nearly six months, Kellen and James put Animezing Podcast's largest review to date, Gundam SEED, to bed with the final five episodes ("A Place for the Soul," "The Nightmare Reborn," "Day of Wrath," "The Final Light," and "To an Endless Future"). The duo discuss the nuclear option, preachy protagonists, and the body count for this finale, and why they will not be covering the series' sequel, Gundam SEED Destiny. Also, in honor of the series' GENESIS weapon, Kellen makes way too many Sega puns.
