What do you do when fear hits your body before your mind can catch up?In this episode, I walk you through a real-time moment of uncertainty after a dermatology appointment triggered memories of a past melanoma diagnosis. Instead of pushing through or pretending I was fine, I used the exact somatic and spiritual tools I teach inside my programs. This conversation is about processing fear without spiraling, regulating your nervous system in the moment, and choosing alignment instead of default reaction. In this episode, you'll learn:How to process fear in your body without energizing it with “because” storiesWhy naming the emotion and asking “what does this feel like?” changes everythingThe difference between honoring emotions and getting stuck in themHow verbal processing and support regulate your nervous system fasterWhy mortality awareness can become a powerful life design wake-up callHow to shift back into grounded action without bypassing what is realIf you've ever found yourself caught in a “what if” spiral, tried to positive-think your way out of anxiety, or felt fear take over your body, this episode will give you a simple, embodied way forward.
What happens when you start asking yourself the really big questions?Questions like:Who am I, really? What am I actually doing here?Did I mess this up?Over the past few weeks, Ruth has been doing deep brand clarity work—trying to untangle 16 years of businesses, books, programs, pivots, and reinventions into one cohesive through-line.Instead of clarity, it triggered a spiral.A full-blown doom loop of second-guessing, regret, comparison, and wondering if all the pivots meant she'd somehow “screwed it all up.”In this honest and vulnerable episode, Ruth shares:What sent her spiralingWhy business doubts often mask deeper identity fearsThe thought patterns that kept her stuckThe exact tool she used to pull herself outAnd the powerful reframe that changed everythingIf you've ever questioned your path, your progress, or your past decisions—this one is for you. What You'll Learn:Why brand clarity work can surface unexpected insecurityThe hidden danger of measuring yourself by the wrong scorecardHow “confused people don't convert” applies to your life—not just your businessThe difference between being scattered and being integratedWhat a doom loop actually is—and how to interrupt itHow to use the Resistance Repair process to shift destructive thought patternsWhy redefining “winning” might change everythingKey Quotes:“When business gets hard, that old scorecard creeps back in.”“I'm not scattered. I'm integrated.”“I get to choose how I show up today.”“This is not the end of my story.”“I teach systems. That's what I've always done.”“You can have the best system in the world, but if you can't stick with it, it doesn't matter.”Find Us: Website: ruthsoukup.comInstagram: @ruthsoukup

When a founder makes a mistake, the real damage rarely comes from the mistake itself. It comes from the internal spiral that follows. In this Founder Talk episode, Alex Sheridan sits down with Barbara Wichman of CKC Consulting, a Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) expert and practitioner, to break down how founders can interrupt that spiral, reset their thinking, and lead with more control under pressure. The conversation stays grounded in real leadership moments: entrepreneurship decisions, building teams, navigating tension, and making calls when the stakes feel personal.Founders will hear how “nervous system signals” show up before the brain can fully explain what's wrong, why execution is where most strategies collapse, and how language shapes leadership state. Barbara shares practical NLP-based reframes that help founders recover faster after missteps, communicate more cleanly, and stop turning normal errors into identity-level self-judgment.Key Takeaways00:00:00 Introduction00:01:34Q: How do founders know something is “off” in the business before they can explain it?A: It often shows up as nervous system activation first—agitation, apprehension, and a sense that something isn't right—before the problem is fully clear.00:03:22Q: Why do smart strategies still fail inside companies?A: Execution breaks down because it requires hard conversations, behavioral change, and follow-through—not just a plan on paper.00:06:30Q: What does anxiety look like in high-responsibility leadership roles?A: Leaders feel the signal before they have the story—pressure, unease, and uncertainty that something needs attention, even if they can't name it yet.00:25:28Q: How do you get a founder out of a reactive “state” during a tough conversation?A: Change the state first—disrupt the default expectations so they can think, hear feedback, and respond without defensiveness.00:28:52Q: What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), in plain language?A: NLP looks at how experiences create mental patterns, and how language and state can be used to rewire those patterns for better responses in the present.01:05:00Q: What's a simple way to stop the “I'm so stupid” spiral after a mistake?A: Replace the attack with a neutral script—like “Oops, I made a mistake”—and say it out loud to break the automatic loop and move into repair mode.01:08:29Q: Are phrases like “I'm not a morning person” actually programming behavior?A: Yes—repeating identity statements reinforces the pattern, making the behavior more likely to stay true over time.Watch the full episode to hear the complete conversation. This one is especially relevant for founders navigating pressure, leadership tension, and high-stakes decisions—and who want founder lessons that actually translate into daily operating. Let's talk about that moment every coach hits at some point — when nothing is selling. The launch flops. The offer lands with a thud. The inbox is quiet. And suddenly your brain starts telling some very convincing (and very dangerous) stories about what that means. In this episode of The Coaching Edge and the accompanying free Offer Diagnostic Worksheet (download HERE), I walk you through what to do before you panic, deep-six your offer, or decide you're “just not cut out for this” and call it quits. Because when nothing is selling, the problem is almost never that you're a bad coach — and believing that can send you straight into a spiral that's hard to climb out of. Instead, I share how I diagnose sales problems using my Business Compass model, how to identify what's actually broken in your sales chain, and what to focus on first so you can get things moving again — calmly, strategically, and without burning your business down. In this episode, I cover: The most dangerous assumption coaches make when sales are slow — and why it's almost never true Why “nothing is selling” is data, not a verdict on your ability as a coach The common (but misleading) fixes coaches jump to when they panic How to audit your business using the North, East, South, and West of the Business Compass How to tell whether you have a visibility problem, a trust problem, or an offer problem Why old-school conversations and direct outreach still work — especially when sales are slow What not to do when things feel quiet (even though it's tempting) If you've been questioning yourself, your offer, or your entire business because sales feel slow right now, this episode will help you step out of emotion and back into clarity — and give you a grounded way forward. Resources: Your free Offer Diagnostic Worksheet (download HERE), which accompanies this episode The Virtual Business Retreat (episode 68 of The Coaching Edge) + your free downloadable Workbook. If you missed it in the December rush, listen wherever you listen to podcasts and download the free Business Compass Audit & Goal-Setting Workbook HERE (It's a fantastic companion to this episode.)

Comedians Leah Rudick (High Maintenance, Spiraling special on Apple, live tickets) and Alyssa Limperis (What We Do in the Shadows, Short of the Week film, No Bad Days special on Peacock) join Jameela for a conversation that begins with a “30 Day Rule” for food found on the floor and somehow escalates into concussions, sex education failures, and deeply inappropriate generosity from future in-laws.Alyssa recounts the day an intimacy coordinator stopped a sex scene to explain that she was not doing sex correctly, while Leah shares the unforgettable experience of meeting her mother-in-law for the first time and being invited to browse, borrow, and ultimately take home items from her personal sex drawer.Along the way, Jameela traces the long arc of repeated head injuries, a childhood with zero sex education, and the strange humiliations that shape how we move through our bodies as adults. No silver linings. Most people think confidence is about believing in yourself. Gabrielle Bernstein knows better — it's about befriending the parts of yourself that hold you back. After two decades as a spiritual teacher and writing 11 bestselling books, the author of The Universe Has Your Back and Self-Help has cracked the code on why we sabotage our success, stay stuck in negative loops, and block the very abundance we're trying to attract. In this raw, deeply personal conversation, Gabrielle breaks down the exact Internal Family Systems (IFS) framework that changed her life, why pushing harder actually blocks manifestation, how suppressed trauma creates parts that sabotage you decades later, and why the 3 AM spiral can be stopped by visualizing your thoughts in a bubble and sending them away. And it's not just vibes — it's applied psychology. If you've ever felt like you're blocking your own success, spiraling in negative self-talk, or pushing so hard you can't receive what's trying to come to you, this episode will rewire how you think about confidence, manifestation, and what it actually takes to attract abundance. If this episode hits a nerve, good. Because insight without action is just expensive therapy. Why Kids Are Spiraling, Markets Are Crashing & Adults Won't Step Up | The Karel Show 26-7 Something is breaking — socially, politically, and economically — and today's episode connects the dots. In Las Vegas, a man is suing the families of seven teens after a violent park attack. It's not an isolated incident. I've been attacked twice by kids on e-bikes myself. Across the country, young people are acting out with little consequence, little guidance, and little accountability — often raised by overwhelmed adults who were never prepared to raise anyone at all. We also look at Brooklyn Beckham going public in a way that reflects a much larger generational unraveling — and ask what happens when kids are raised by kids in a culture with no guardrails. Meanwhile, Donald Trump tanked the markets, threatened Greenland (yes, again), and sparked renewed calls — including from a sitting Senator — to invoke the 25th Amendment. Congress, as usual, does nothing. As conditions escalate rapidly, the question isn't if this gets worse — it's who will finally act. We also break down: • Peet's Coffee closing Bay Area locations • Starbucks downsizing nationwide • Whether the era of $10 coffee is finally ending • And yes — a determined coyote trying to reach Alcatraz
Waiting can be one of the hardest parts of anxiety.Waiting for answers, results, clarity, reassurance or simply for things to feel better. This 10-minute guided meditation is designed for those in-between moments, when your mind keeps racing ahead and your body feels stuck in anticipation. Instead of spiraling into worst-case scenarios, this practice helps you stay grounded in the present while you wait. In this meditation, you'll be guided to: Sit with uncertainty without panic Calm the nervous system during waiting periods Release mental rehearsal and “what if” thoughts Let your body stand down from constant alert Find steadiness even without answers This meditation is perfect to listen to while waiting on test results, decisions, messages, or any situation where anxiety convinces you something bad is coming. You don't need to figure everything out right now. You're allowed to rest in the in-between. Don't forget to rate and review The Chicks!
The segment opens with a bold declaration that if the Brooklyn Nets beat the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, Mike Brown could be fired almost immediately. The guys debate how real that scenario is, why this moment feels different from past Knicks slides, and whether ownership is nearing a breaking point with a team that entered the season with championship expectations. The conversation quickly turns into a deep dive on Karl-Anthony Towns, his trade value, his on court frustrations, and the growing belief that he is not respected around the league or even fully protected internally. Callers weigh in on whether dumping KAT actually improves the roster or simply removes a problem from the locker room. From there, the show widens to New York sports big picture talk, comparing this Knicks chaos to past transformational hires like Pat Riley and Bill Parcells, and why those moments mattered. The segment also detours into Jets talk, including why elite coaches gravitate toward stability and quarterbacks, and why the Giants job clearly beat the Jets in this cycle. All of it plays out with one major backdrop looming over the hour: the anticipation building at the Quest Diagnostics Training Center as Giants fans wait to hear from John Harbaugh, with the optimism around the Giants standing in stark contrast to the dysfunction unfolding at MSG.
