I want to start this episode with someone I lost recently. A dear colleague of mine, Riff Hutton, passed away a couple of weeks ago from a brain tumor. I am opening with him because I just used something he taught me. I came into my booth and my preamp was not working. And there was a part of me that just wanted to say forget it, record on the laptop mic, move on. And then Riff's voice came to me. Be curious. So instead of pushing through I got calm. I started looking at why. Turned out the power cord into my preamp has a lock position and it had gotten unlocked. A simple thing. But the old me would have forced it and missed the lesson entirely. Riff Hutton, if you are out there listening on some plane, thank you for teaching me to be curious. Forcing vs Allowing Today's episode is about attracting rather than forcing. And you are talking to a reformed forcer here. The times I have pushed hardest are the times I have created the least flow. There is an energy to forcing that is very close to frustration and anger. I am going to make this happen. And when I operate from that energy, things go wrong. Last night I was exhausted and forcing myself to make dinner and the glass lid to my frying pan shattered in the salmon. Everything was fine. But I said to myself, you are forcing. What I really needed to say was I am too tired to cook. Either we make a salad or we go out. When I gave myself permission to be curious instead, when my tech broke down before this recording, it created an opportunity to learn something and to teach you something. That is not magical thinking. That is nervous system reality. What Scarcity Actually Looks Like Scarcity is not just financial. Scarcity sounds like it is too late for me. I am too old. I missed my chance. Everyone is ahead of me. It shows up in actions too. Checking casting sites obsessively. Spiraling when someone from your acting class books a job. Treating every audition like something you have to survive instead of something you get to be curious in. Believing that rejection defines your self-worth. Scarcity is a clenched fist. Abundance, and that means abundance of love, opportunity, curiosity, is an open hand. Your nervous system affects your ability to see opportunity, stay grounded, and recover after rejection. If it is dysregulated you overthink, you chase approval, you lose your authenticity. And your authenticity is your superpower. Can You Receive Here is the exercise I want you to try right now. Imagine booking the dream role. Imagine finally being seen as an actor the way you have always wanted. Really sit with it. And then notice what emotion appeared immediately afterward. Was it fear? Pressure? Guilt? Fear of visibility? Because if it was, those emotions matter. They are showing you where you are stuck. So many actors become addicted to the struggle. If that is you, it is because struggle feels more familiar than ease. I want ease to feel familiar. I want flow to feel familiar. Because peace can feel threatening. Calm can feel unproductive. Stability can feel suspicious. But your nervous system dictates your success more than your effort. That is the truest thing I have discovered in 30 years. The Bottom Line Allowing is not passive. Allowing is staying open long enough for life to meet you. Your job is not to force every outcome. Your job is to become available for what you say you want. Your emotions are your inner GPS. They are showing you where you are going. If you feel good, you are going somewhere good. Want to Keep the Conversation Going? Uncertainty is hard, especially when your mind believes that thinking through every possible “what if” will keep you safe. You might replay conversations, prepare for things that haven't happened, or convince yourself that if you can just figure out every possible outcome, you'll finally feel at peace. But what if the constant problem-solving is actually keeping the anxiety going? In this episode, I'm talking about what happens when you stop trying to eliminate uncertainty and instead learn how to sit with “I don't know” without immediately spiraling, and how that space can become an opportunity to practice trust, dependence on God, and a different way of responding to your thoughts.Rooting for you,JessicaWant help taking the next step?If this episode helped you recognize some of the thoughts, emotions, or patterns keeping you stuck, you don't have to stop with simply understanding what's happening. Doesn't it seem like everywhere you look someone's upset about something? People are ranting on reels, crashing out in the comments, and cancelling close friends. But it's not just everyone else. Your buttons get pushed too. Are you supposed to pretend it didn't happen? People need to be held accountable. Change needs to be made. You can't believe how many people you've had to correct or cut ties with. But it's just the way it is now. What's the alternative? Does the Way of Jesus have anything to say about how to make the world better without living in a constant state of outrage?

This week on Stay True Podcast, Madi sits down with authors, pastors, speakers, and friends Jennie and Levi Lusko for a conversation about something so many of us are craving but struggle to find: true rest. In a world that constantly tells us to do more, hustle harder, and keep pushing, it's no wonder so many of us feel spiritually exhausted, anxious, and overwhelmed. Together, they talk about what to do when your mind won't stop spiraling, how to trust God when it feels like He's silent, and why following Jesus doesn't mean life will always be easy. Jennie and Levi also share practical wisdom on fighting entitlement and discovering the kind of soul-deep rest that only God can provide. If you've been feeling worn out, discouraged, or simply running on empty, this conversation will remind you where real peace is found. As always... be sure to stay you and stay true! Topics we dive into: -Why do we feel so spiritually exhausted? -What do you do when your mind won't stop spiraling? -How do you trust God when He doesn't seem to answer your prayers? -How do you fight entitlement and cultivate gratitude? -What does true rest for your soul actually look like? -Why is God more concerned with who you're becoming than what you're doing? Here's something I want you to know: you already have more tools than you think you do. In this episode, I'm talking with one of my best friends and favorite humans again, the brilliant Lindsay Dotzlaf, about how to use the coaching tools you already have on yourself, especially in your relationships. Lindsay is a master coach's coach who helps coaches master the craft of coaching, and she's the host of the Mastering Coaching Skills podcast. She did an episode for coaches about using your coaching skills on yourself, and I told her she had to come talk about it with me. Because here's the thing: if you listen to this podcast at all, you have coaching skills. Pausing and breathing. Asking a better question. Asking "what's the root cause?" Thinking on purpose about your partner. You use these skills at work all the time. Then we go home and forget we know how to troubleshoot. At the heart of this conversation is a simple but powerful choice: in any charged moment, you can spiral or you can pivot. The spiral is the loop of beating yourself up, blaming your partner, going in circles and never moving forward. The pivot is one tiny step in a different direction. And the more you practice it, the stronger that muscle gets. We talk about internalized blame (and the difference between "I am wrong" and "I did something wrong"), why building self-trust is what lets you pivot more and spiral less, and one of Lindsay's favorite tools for getting unstuck: putting the thought on the shelf. Here is the scoop on what we talked about — ✨ Episode at a Glance Why you already have coaching tools at your disposal, even if you don't call them that The moment of choice in every charged interaction: spiral or pivot Why "developing the muscle" of awareness matters more than any single tool How high emotions lower your access to your own resources (and how the pause changes that) "I have choices" — the sentence Maggie repeats, even in the most dire situations Internalized blame, and the freeing difference between "I am wrong" and "I did something wrong" The secondary wound: when we shame ourselves for spiraling in the first place Building self-trust as a muscle, one tiny pivot at a time Trading all-or-nothing thinking for the "dimmer switch" Lindsay's favorite tool: put the thought on the shelf and ask "if that wasn't allowed to be true, now what?" Mike Winner spent a decade DJing Hollywood clubs before turning toward the infrastructure of digital freedom — founder of WINNR Digital, co-founder of the decentralized internet Qortal, and co-founder of the Music & Sky festival. Returning for the first time since 2022, he brings a caution aimed squarely at his own community: purity spiraling, the habit of turning discernment into a cage where every meal, every device, and every dollar becomes a moral exam. Real sovereignty, as he frames it, is less glamorous and far more demanding. It is what you actually own, what you actually think, and the responsibility you refuse to outsource. The partner in this situation (Episode 343) recognizes that her husband's honesty about two recent relapses represents meaningful progress after years of pornography use, self-gratification, betrayal, and deception. However, the aftermath of those relapses remains deeply damaging. He spirals into shame, discouragement, and self-condemnation, creating a heavy emotional atmosphere in the home and leaving her feeling responsible for stabilizing him while she is also trying to process her own grief and betrayal trauma. His requests that she pursue him, cuddle him, initiate affection, or make him feel wanted become especially painful when he later rejects her or questions whether her efforts are genuine.Although unresolved grief, childhood wounds, and protective parts may help explain why addiction and shame become activated, they do not excuse the behavior or make his partner responsible for healing him. His shame functions like a bucket full of holes: no amount of external reassurance can fill what he has not learned to repair internally. When he seeks sexual or emotional validation from the person he has just harmed, he risks using her as a confessor, rescuer, and sexual absolver. Real accountability goes far beyond admitting the relapse. It requires him to tolerate difficult emotions, contact his sponsor, therapist, group, or recovery support, examine what led to the relapse, identify the deeper needs he was attempting to meet, and develop a specific plan for changing his recovery practices. For the betrayed partner, healthy boundaries include taking physical or emotional space, declining to become his primary emotional regulator, and participating in affection or sexual intimacy only when it feels authentic and safe for her. She can acknowledge his honesty without taking responsibility for his shame, and she can refuse to remain in a cycle where she is asked to pursue him only to be rejected or interrogated. He does not need to be perfect, but he does need to stand up, lead his recovery, respect her healing process, and protect her from additional harm. Genuine connection becomes possible when he owns his recovery and she remains loyal to her safety, truth, boundaries, and healing. For a full transcript of this podcast in article format, go to: He's Honest About Relapses, But His Spiraling Shame and Neediness Cycle is Exhausting!Learn more about Mark and Steve's revolutionary online porn/sexual addiction recovery and betrayal trauma healing program at—daretoconnectnow.comFind out more about Steve Moore at: Ascension CounselingLearn more about Mark Kastleman at: Reclaim Counseling Services

If your mind won't stop spinning during your divorce, replaying the same conversation, jumping from one fear to the next, waking up at 3am convinced something urgently needs to be handled right now, you're not broken and you're not crazy. You're overwhelmed, and that overwhelm can spiral into decisions you'll regret. Karen from Journey Beyond Divorce breaks down what's actually happening in your nervous system when the spiral takes over, why you can't think your way out of it, and the one simple, science-backed shift that can steady you in real time before you send the email, make the call, or say the thing you can't take back. Karen explains why spiraling isn't just anxiety, it's your mind trying to solve ten problems at once, none of which are solvable in that moment. She walks through what happens when your nervous system goes into protective mode and you move from your prefrontal cortex, where clear thinking happens, into fight-or-flight, and why that's the reason spiraling in high-conflict divorce so often hands your ex exactly the ammunition they're looking for. She shares the pause-and-regulate technique she used through her own divorce, along with why fewer inputs and one grounded decision at a time will get you further than every blog, podcast, and Facebook group combined. This episode is for anyone who feels like they're carrying too much at once and needs a clear, practical way back to steady ground. Karen McMahon is the founder of Journey Beyond Divorce and a divorce coach who has spent years helping people move through high-conflict divorce with clarity, steadiness, and strength. From the outside, everything can look fine — decent grades, same friend group, still showing up to practice. But some of the most telling signs of a teen quietly struggling don't look like a crisis at all; they look like normal teenage moodiness. In this episode, we break down three signs parents consistently miss, why they get overlooked, and why waiting for things to "pass on their own" is often the costliest mistake a parent can make.

When my day gets hijacked (sick kid, surprise meeting, total schedule chaos), the hardest part isn't “fixing the calendar.” It's the executive-function load of holding everything in my head while I try to make decisions, communicate clearly, and not melt down. If something your ex did recently sent you into a spiral, they unfollowed you, started dating someone else, viewed your story, ignored your message, or did something that left you questioning your worth, this episode will help you get back on solid ground. The hardest part of these moments usually isn't what happened. It's the meaning your brain immediately assigns to it and the behaviors that follow. In this episode, I walk you through the same three-step process I recently used with a client after one unexpected action from her ex unraveled an entire weekend. You'll learn how to uncover the thoughts fueling the spiral, challenge the stories keeping you stuck, and create a simple plan so the next trigger doesn't have the same power over you. If you're tired of one interaction with your ex undoing weeks or months of progress, this episode will show you how to recover faster, respond differently, and keep moving toward the life you actually want. Filling in for Boomer & Gio on a wild pre-July 4th show, Jerry and Gordon kick things off by tackling the reigning champion Knicks freezing out a 41-year-old LeBron James, Jaylen Brown's Twitch meltdown over being shipped to Philly, Uruguay's stranded World Cup squad, and Taylor Swift's upcoming 10-hour MSG "wedding" spectacle. The holiday chaos rolls on as Gordon brands soccer a "terrible first draft," the Yankees bleed without Aaron Judge, and Steve Cohen nukes the Mets' clubhouse, all unfolding alongside a Metallica vs. Beach Boys debate, a sneaky prank caller, Jerry's US history quiz, and C-Lo's headlines. Finally, MLB Network's Robert Flores confirms a explosive Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor feud that puts David Stearns on the ultimate hot seat, capping off a chaotic broadcast where Gordon begs for elite Twitter status and furious callers reject aging superstars to declare New York Jalen Brunson's town.

Patrick quickly shifts to pressing Catholic questions about liturgy, schism, and the lived experience of the Mass. He introduces thoughts from Chloe Lubinski of Anthropic, examining artificial intelligence, human language, and the consequences of technology shaped by moral voices, even referencing the Vatican’s recent focus on these developments. Spiraling through the episode are sharp contrasts—tradition and innovation, fear and curiosity, moments of confusion, and glimpses of clarity about faith, ethics, and the unpredictable future. Have you ever had one bad day that suddenly made you question everything? Yesterday, that was me. After my most successful month as an entrepreneur, I found myself crying hysterically, convinced I wasn't doing enough and wondering if I was failing. Looking back, I realized my brain had turned one incredibly stressful day into a story that wasn't fully true. In this solo episode, I'm sharing what happened, the surprising lesson it taught me, and the framework I'm using to move through creative spirals without letting them define me.In this episode, you'll learn:- How to recognize when you're spiraling instead of seeing the full picture-Why your inner critic says the things it does and how to respond with compassion instead of shame-How to separate what's actually happening from the story your brain is telling you-A simple practice that's helping me regain perspective and move forward one step at a timeIf you've been feeling overwhelmed, discouraged, or like you're somehow falling behind, I hope this episode reminds you that one hard day doesn't get to write the story of your life.

Uncertainty can make you anxious, controlling, and completely exhausted, but staying steady is a skill you can build. Here's the real reason you can't seem to figure out how to deal with uncertainty: you've been taught that calm is a personality trait. Something you either have or you don't. It's not. The people who stay grounded when life blows up the plan didn't win some genetic lottery. They've built a skill. And by the end of this episode, you'll know how to start building it too. Today, I'm talking with executive coach Liz Tran about the agility quotient, the trainable intelligence that helps you stay steady when everything is changing. If the constant churn at work, in your relationships, and in the world has you anxious, overthinking, bracing, or trying to control every possible outcome, this conversation is for you. You'll learn how to build mental toughness from the inside out, how to get out of your comfort zone on purpose, and how to start changing your life even when the future feels uncertain, without pretending you've got it all figured out. In this episode: 04:20: The skill no one taught you, but everyone needs now 08:09: The “third intelligence” that matters when plans fall apart 18:27: The one-question reframe that flips dread into fuel 19:24: Four quiet habits steady people rely on under pressure 29:24: Which “change type” are you? 52:16: Why Googling and doom-scrolling make uncertainty worse 53:11: The boat metaphor that can change your next bad day 1:04:27: What helps kids become resilient instead of brittle If you're tired of living inside the spiral, needing control, asking “why is this happening to me,” and avoiding anything uncomfortable, I really want you to hear this one. Because uncertainty isn't going away. But you can become someone who knows how to meet it.
