In the Amazon Basin, in the interior of Brazil, systems of ritual and belief have existed for thousands of years unknown to most Brazilians. When the Villas-Bôas brothers established contact with the people of the Xingú less than 100 years ago, they became advocates for the indigenous people to the Brazilian government and society for the culture's preservation. We look at the stories shared with the brothers, exploring the relationship of life, death, and ritual in a drastically changing world.00:31 Map of Peru, Brazil, and the Country of the Amazons00:47 Yawalapiti men, serra do Roncador, MT. Our virtual online auction, Trunks & Treasures, is back! Starting on June 13 and running for 10 days, all proceeds will go toward the costs of relocating Kenya and Tamy—the last two elephants at the Mendoza Ecoparque in Argentina. Join us here: www.globalelephants.org/trunksandtreasures and bid on charming elephant items, purchase gifts for the Girls, and—if you're a U.S. resident—buy one or more entries for a chance to win the prize of a lifetime: a 3-day trip with one guest to the sanctuary! We also delve deeper into Pupy's journey of self-discovery and how she is healing both physically and emotionally from decades of unnatural captivity. The abundance and vastness of the sanctuary grounds are unveiling Pupy's true spirit, which she continues to discover each day.The episode transcript can be found here.Email: We'd love to hear from you podcast@globalelephants.orgWho we are: Global Sanctuary for Elephants exists to create vast, safe spaces for captive elephants, where they are able to heal physically and emotionally. There are elephants around the world in need of sanctuary, but too few places exist to be able to care for even a fraction of the elephants. International support is necessary to build sanctuaries for elephants in need of rescue and rehabilitation. Our pilot project is Elephant Sanctuary Brazil where Asian and African elephants relocated from across South America live their best lives.Website: https://globalelephants.org/Donate: Global Sanctuary for Elephants is a U.S. 501(c)3 non-profit. On this episode of IYGADAP, I'm joined by Colin K. Bass and DJ Rivers—two passionate creatives behind the fan-made series Dragonball: Son of Trunks. While both have been guests on the show before in separate interviews, this marks the first time they're appearing together—and it doesn't disappoint. DJ even pulls off a rare back-to-back appearance, adding to the fun dynamic in this Dragon Ball-fueled conversation. Colin, who plays the lead role of Vehan (the Son of Trunks), and DJ, who plays Piccolo, open up about the making of Episode 2, the challenges of facing early backlash from skeptics, and how the project taps into the childhood imagination that inspired them to become filmmakers. We talk about their individual journeys as lifelong Dragon Ball fans, what it means to create something for the community, and the real-life friendship that fuels their on-screen chemistry. Of course, it wouldn't be IYGADAP without some off-topic nerd outs and a few well-timed dad jokes—this time with a Dragon Ball twist that left DJ cringing more than once. And if you stick around until the end, Nick and I drop a few teases about exciting things coming up for the show that you won't want to miss. Whether you're a longtime fan of the franchise or just love hearing how fandom fuels creativity, this one's packed with energy, insight, and a lot of laughs. ======================== Podcast Networks: Zeo to Hero Podcast Network: https://zeotohero.com/ OIW Podcast Network: https://www.oiwpodcastnetwork.com/ ======================== Merch! https://iygadapshop.etsy.com/ Stickers By Stasha: https://linktr.ee/stickersbystasha ======================= Original Geek Comics: https://www.originalgeek.org https://linktr.ee/OrgnlGeek Original Geek: Beyond The Panels Podcast: https://www.redcircle.com/show/ogbeyondthepanels ========================================== If You Give A Dad A YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@IfYouGiveADadAYoutubeCha-uw7zm If You Give A Dad A Cosplay: https://www.youtube.com/@IfyougiveadadaCosplay-nl9hc ========================= musical credits for show: Beginning Music from www.tunetank.com Intro theme sampled from: https://pixabay.com/music (find whole song there) Outro music by: D.Cure Produced by: tunnA Beatz If you enjoy his music, be sure to check out his website as well! www.dcurehiphop.com =========================== Linktree to follow me: http://linktr.ee/Giveadadapodcast

Hey what's up, anime lovers! It's ya boy Raysean, and welcome back to the Raysean Gadson Anime Podcast—aka R-GAP!Today, we're continuing our Dragon Ball Z marathon with an absolute banger—episodes 150 to 160, where we witness the birth of Perfect Cell! I'm joined by my guy Josh from DAS, and we're breaking down our Top 5 favorite moments, one thing we didn't vibe with, and everything in between. We kick things off with Cell interrupting the epic fight between Android 17 and Piccolo, thanking Piccolo for unintentionally leading him right to the androids. Piccolo warns 17, but it's already too late—Cell's on a mission. Android 16 steps up to stall him, nearly pulling off a victory, but Cell's Z-Fighter DNA lets him regenerate. He absorbs 17, knocks out 16, and sets his sights on 18.Tien puts his life on the line to slow him down, and just when things get critical, Goku steps in to save the day—buying time for a real showdown.Meanwhile, Vegeta and Trunks are deep in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, leveling up and unlocking that Super Vegeta energy. Vegeta goes head-to-head with Cell and starts dominating—until Cell tempts him with the chance to fight his perfect form. And we all know Vegeta's pride can't resist a challenge…Krillin, caught between love and duty, destroys the controller that could've stopped Android 18—because yes, my guy caught feelings. Cell ends up absorbing 18, triggering natural disasters, and BOOM—Perfect Cell is here. He casually kicks Krillin near-death and doesn't even break a sweat.

Hey Smarties! We're on a break for the holidays and revisiting some of our top episodes from 2024. We can't do this show without you and we still need your support. If you can, donate today to keep independent journalism going strong into 2025 and beyond. Give now to support “Make Me Smart.” Thank you so much for your generosity, happy holidays and we'll see you in the new year. If you’ve been feeling hopeless about the news, the election, the economy, the climate crisis and everything else that’s going on, today’s episode is for you. Emily Amick, lawyer and co-author of “Democracy in Retrograde: How to Make Changes Big and Small in Our Country and in Our Lives,” argues we can all become better participants in our democracy. And we don’t need to have a gazillion dollars to do it. On the show today, Amick explains why we should treat civic engagement as self-care, how to find your civic personality and ways to cultivate a news diet that doesn’t put you in a doom loop. Plus, the moment she realized our democracy was headed in the wrong direction. Then, we’ll get into how voters in Utah fought to protect the power of citizen-led ballot initiatives and why shoppers hide purchases from their romantic partners. Plus, an anime cosplayer was wrong about what it would take to create her own costume. Here’s everything we talked about today: “Despite Recent Setbacks, There Is Still Hope For Democracy” from Forbes “In ‘Democracy in Retrograde,’ Emily Amick Talks About Political Engagement and Her Cancer Diagnosis” from Teen Vogue “What does Utah's redistricting ruling do to voters' ability to change laws?” from The Salt Lake Tribune “Utah Supreme Court: Lawmakers must heed voter-passed gerrymandering reforms “ from Axios Salt Lake City “Amazon’s Prime Day a ‘major’ cause of worker injuries, Senate probe finds” from CNBC “US Retail Sales Excluding Autos Rise by Most in Three Months” from Bloomberg “Gym Bags, Trunks, Back Doors: How Stealth Shoppers Hide Purchases” from The Wall Street Journal “Financial Infidelity Report 2023: Why People Hide Purchases From Partners” from Circuit “Inside a UPS warehouse that prioritizes super-fast shipping” from Marketplace How are you getting involved in civic life? It's finally time to load mother and daughter and literally take them from darkness into light. Scott reveals the final challenges the team faced upon arriving in Mendoza, including incomplete crate training and the need to keep the exact loading date secret, as not all zoo staff were happy to see Pocha and Guillermina leave. The team embarked on their long 5-day journey from Argentina to Brazil. While Pocha and Guille did remarkably well, it was the human elements that posed the greatest challenges, as usual, Scott recalls. Watch all videos of Pocha and Guillermina's relocation. Email: We'd love to hear from you podcast@globalelephants.org Who we are: Global Sanctuary for Elephants exists to create vast, safe spaces for captive elephants, where they are able to heal physically and emotionally. There are elephants around the world in need of sanctuary, but too few places exist to be able to care for even a fraction of the elephants. International support is necessary to build sanctuaries for elephants in need of rescue and rehabilitation. Our pilot project is Elephant Sanctuary Brazil, currently home to six female Asian elephants.
