Con queste lapidarie parole lo scrittore Ivan Sergeevič Aksakov accolse una serie di articoli apparsi in Germania e in Francia sul finire degli anni Quaranta dell'Ottocento e destinati a suscitare una vasta eco in Occidente. L'autore di quelle pagine anonime, che osavano rivolgersi all'Europa con inaudita libertà e dignità, era Fëdor Tjutčev. Diplomatico, poeta ammirato da Puškin e da Turgenev, da Dostoevskij e da Tolstoj, uomo di grandi vizi e virtù, Tjutčev era animato da un entusiasmo senza limiti per la sua Russia, che – credeva fermamente – sarebbe diventata un grande impero, capace di unire tutti i popoli slavi di fede ortodossa. Ancora oggi, se si vogliono comprendere le mire espansionistiche di quel paese, è agli scritti politici di Tjutčev che occorre volgere lo sguardo. Fra le sue «intuizioni storiche» – come le definisce il teologo Georgij Florovskij –, spiccano l'agonia della civiltà occidentale, la questione romana e il Papato, il ruolo della censura e dell'autocrazia zarista, fino alla previsione di una catastrofica guerra che l'Occidente avrebbe scatenato contro la Russia uscendone sconfitto, e che avrebbe segnato l'inizio di un nuovo capitolo della Storia. Temi, come salta agli occhi, di bruciante attualità.Appartenente a una famiglia dell'aristocrazia moscovita, Fëdor Ivanovič Tjutčev (1803-1873) fu diplomatico oltre che eminente poeta, e dopo aver iniziato la carriera nel Collegio degli Affari esteri di Pietroburgo operò come incaricato speciale a Monaco di Baviera – dove frequentò Heine, Schelling e gli ambienti del Romanticismo tedesco – e a Torino, dove visse dal 1837 al 1839. Nel 1836 alcune sue liriche furono pubblicate dalla rivista di Puškin «Il contemporaneo», suscitando i primi, ampi consensi. Nel 1844 tornò definitivamente in Russia, mentre la sua fama di poeta cresceva dopo i riconoscimenti tributatigli da Turgenev, Fet, Dobroljubov.Marco Filoni insegna filosofia politica all'Università Link di Roma. Katrin Zipse: Moosland. 1949Vier Jahre nach Kriegsende veröffentlichte der Isländische Bauernverband eine Anzeige in den Lübecker Nachrichten. Gesucht wurden junge deutsche Frauen, die auf isländischen Bauernhöfen mitarbeiten würden. Viele Isländerinnen waren damals in die Städte abgewandert oder mit den abziehenden amerikanischen GIs in die USA gegangen. Einige Bauern suchten also nicht nur Arbeitskräfte, sondern auch Heiratskandidatinnen. Etwa 300 junge deutsche Frauen folgten dem Aufruf. Für Katrin Zipse Stoff für ihren Roman Moosland. Claudia Ingenhoven hat das Buch gelesen. Steffen Kopetzky: Die HarzreiseVor 200 Jahren durchwanderte Heinrich Heine den Harz und schuf mit seiner Harzreise ein bis heute berühmtes literarisches Reisebild. 200 Jahre später folgt der Autor Steffen Kopetzky dieser Spur und findet eine von sozialen und ökologischen Veränderungen geprägte Landschaft. Und wie Heine auch hat Kopetzky seine Beobachtungen und Erfahrungen von unterwegs in einem literarischen Text festgehalten, nun erschienen beim Rowohlt Verlag. "Die Harzreise - eine Deutschlanderkundung" ist durchaus ein Buch übers Wandern und ist doch zugleich voller kluger Gedanken zur politischen Gegenwart. Jörg Schieke hat sich mit Steffen Kopetky über diese Harzreise unterhalten.Christine Thürmer: Hiking Asia. Zu gern schauen wir Anderen bei ihren Abenteuern zu. In Videos, Lichtbildvorträgen, Büchern und natürlich im Internet verfolgen wir, wie sie sich die Welt etwa erwandern. Eine von ihnen ist Christine Thürmer. Sie bezeichnet sich selbst als die "meistgewanderte Frau der Welt" und verweist auf ihrer Webseite auf unfassbare 70.000 Kilometer zu Fuß, 37.000 Kilometer mit dem Fahrrad und 7.000 Kilometer mit dem Boot. Christine Thürmer hat mehrere Bücher geschrieben. Das Neueste erzählt von ihren Touren durch Japan, Südkorea und Taiwan. Sabine Frank stellt es vor.Felicitas Hoppe: ReisenSeit die Autorin 2012 mit dem Georg-Büchner-Preis prämiert wurde, ist sie in aller Munde, denn diese Auszeichnung gilt als wichtigste Literaturtrophäe im deutschsprachigen Raum. Insgesamt veröffentlichte die 1965 in Hameln geborene Schriftstellerin bisher mehr als zwei Dutzend Werke, darunter die von der Kritik euphorisch gefeierten Reiseromane "Pigafetta" und "Paradiese, Übersee". Jetzt hat die Künstlerin dem Thema Reisen einen Essayband gewidmet. Ulf Heise stellt ihn vor. Ali Smith: GliffDie Schottin Ali Smith gehört in Großbritannien zu den ganz großen zeitgenössischen Schriftstellerinnen. Schon mit ihrer Jahreszeiten-Tetralogie war sie sowas wie eine literarische Ersthelferin für alle, die von den damals aktuellen politischen Entwicklungen überrannt wurden: Egal, ob es der Brexit war, der Rechtsruck oder die Corona-Pandemie. Auch in ihrem neuen Roman gibt sich Ali Smith politisch. Heinrich Heine war 33 Jahre, als er 1831 nach Paris ging. Für die liberale Allgemeine Zeitung in Augsburg wurde Heine alsbald als Korrespondent tätig. Dazu gehörten unter anderem Berichte und Kritiken aus dem Pariser Musikleben.

Eine „Deutschlanderkundung“ sei seine Wanderung durch den Harz gewesen, sagt Steffen Kopetzky im Gespräch mit Ulrich Kühn. Wie seinerzeit Heinrich Heine erkundete er von Göttingen ausgehend „auf Schusters Rappen“ genauso den Brocken wie Clausthal-Zellerfeld, Wernigerode wie Goslar, sah weitere „liebliche“ Orte, erschrak in faustischen Landschaften, stieß auf „harzköpfige“ Typen und hörte von „Animositäten“ zwischen einzelnen Harzstädten. Das seien, so Kopetzkys als Fazit seiner Harzreise, „aber im Großen und Ganzen ganz normale, menschliche Abgründe, die man halt da findet.“ Eine Deutschlanderkundung eben.

Even before the continuing acts of gun violence in the US this week, I had chosen a theme that necessitated a rather sombre setlist: the artistry of Canadian-born singer George London in recital. Though London was one of the premier operatic bass-baritones in the 1950s, he also reserved a significant corner of his artistic endeavors for the recital stage.
