Hallo und herzlich willkommen zurück in Bilbos Butze. Wieder einmal wird ein Kapitel aus Herr der Ringe besprochen, und dieses Mal lernen die Gefährten einen weiteren neuen Ort kennen: Lothlórien. Hier gibt es nicht nur graue Borken und goldene Blätter, sondern auch Elben, die sich natürlich sehr über Legolas freuen. Aber was ist nur mit Gimli, der ist doch ein verhasster Zwerg? Und wie ist denn Lothlórien überhaupt, eher wie ein Paradies oder wie ein Parallel-Universum? Jaa, das alles erfahrt ihr in dieser tollen Folge. È così che la Compagnia scopre che, se questi ha potuto salvarsi dal micidiale colpo di lancia ricevuto, è stato per merito di una splendida cotta di Mithril (l'argentovero di Moria, il più prezioso e resistente dei metalli) che Bilbo gli ha regalato, un dono di regale valore, una vera assicurazione sulla vita nei pericoli della battaglia. Ma non c'è tempo per stupirsi e commentare l'accaduto: il viaggio deve proseguire, anche senza Gandalf. A poche miglia di distanza si stendono i boschi di Lórien, il misterioso reame degli elfi, in cui regna una dama dai grandi poteri. Legolas ed Aragorn esortano i loro amici ad avanzare senza paure sotto i primi alberi del bosco, sul far della notte, quando una voce intima loro di fermarsi. È Haldir, una guardia elfica posta di vedetta ai confini di Lothlórien: la legge impedisce a ogni estraneo di entrare nei confini del regno, ma anche se Aragorn e Legolas sembrano convincere la fedele sentinella a fare un'eccezione, la presenza del nano Gimli gli impedisce definitivamente di accontentare la Compagnia. Gollum is disinclined to acquiesce to Frodo's request to lead them to Mordor, and he tries to escape when he thinks the hobbits aren't looking. Sam has thirty ells' worth of good reasons for Gollum to stay put, but the Elvish rope burns his skin (as of publication, Lothlórien Ropeworks has not issued a recall, and neither Haldir nor “One of Those Folk” could be reached for comment). Finally, Sméagol comes up with a promise that Frodo can trust… for now. All this, plus a closer look at swearing (not that kind) and a Middle-earth/Marvel mashup in the mailbag.

On today's episode of Cosplay and Cocktails, Jessi and Paige chat with cosplayer and Tolkien fanatic, Lauren about her cosplay journey, sexy Gandalf, and how Haldir's posse and gang is obviously the coolest.

Lothlórien - Shocked and grieving, the Fellowship is at a loss for what to do next. Aragorn takes control, leading the Company toward the woods of Lothlórien, a dwelling of Elves that Legolas and Aragorn anticipate visiting with joy, despite their sadness. They stop briefly so Aragorn can attend to Frodo's injuries, discovering Frodo's mithril coat in the process, which mostly protected him from the Orc-chieftain's spear thrust. As they walk, Frodo again thinks he hears soft footsteps following, and when he turns, he sees the gleam of eyes. They arrive at the woods of Lothlórien. Not everyone is excited. Boromir is suspicious, and Gimli, as a Dwarf, also has worries. But Legolas tells them some of the history of Lothlórien, and they seem willing to keep going. When night falls, they prepare to sleep in the tree branches, but are interrupted by a company of Elves led by Haldir whose job is to watch Lothlórien's borders. The Elves agree to lead the Fellowship into Lothlórien in the morning. In the middle of the night, a shadowy figure climbs up the tree Frodo is in, but is scared away by Elves. The next day the Company, led by Haldir and his elves, enter Lothlórien.

The Fellowship are led through Lothlórien blindfolded, and yes, Legolas is still complaining. Deprived of his sight, Frodo’s heightened senses take in the sounds, the smells, and the feel of the world around him; and we bask in the beauty of Tolkien’s prose all the way to Cerin Amroth — the heart of elvendom on earth — where the blindfolds are finally removed. We ease up on our criticism of Haldir (once he finally does the right thing), contemplate Galadriel’s punk phase, and offer up word-nerdery on the Elvish name of Sam’s (and Alan’s) favorite flower.

Haldir of Lórien greets the Fellowship (the less beardy fellows, at least) as friends and invites them to spend the night in his magic treehouse. Poor Gimli is deemed a spy just for being a Dwarf in an Elvish forest, but nobody tells him. And while the others sleep, Frodo awakens in the middle of the night to the sound of Orcs… and something else. We expose the casual racism of the Galadhrim, discuss surprising connections to a recently unearthed Tolkien Christmas poem, and go back to the Bovril well (trying hard not to fall in) for more jokes.

The Nicks dive into this chapter of gift giving by asking which of the Fellowship's gifts would you steal, or what gift would you ask of Lady Galadriel? We discuss the differences between the movie gifts and the book. Celeborn offers boats - this could prolong the decision! The Fellowship take their own council Majority choose to go west and make for Minas Tirith. Aragorn is quiet. Off down the river Giant swan swims closer…  oh dear. GALADRIEL -- she sings to them with a harp. Lord and Lady invite them to eat together as a farewell. Gifts are given. Aragorn gets a sheath for Anduril and the Elfstone Boromir gets a golden belt Merry/Pippin small silver belts with a golden flower clasp Legolas gets a bow of the Galadhrim strung with elf hair and a quiver of arrows. Sam gets a small box - adorned with a G for Galadriel/Garden, filled with soil from the orchard of Galadriel blessed in the way she may. Gimli - what gift would a Dwarf ask of the Lady?   Sees them off. Galadriel sings another song.
