Robert Ruesch has been putting words to paper since the mid-1960s, but nothing prepared him for the story he'd one day write with his daughter. Growing up at the world's largest YMCA resort in the Colorado Rockies, surrounded by college professors, world travellers and breathtaking mountain views, Robert's love of storytelling took root early, sparked by a school bully and a creative writing class years later. He went on to become an award-winning author, speaker and humourist, but it's his most personal work, The Long Road Home, that forms the heart of this conversation. Co-written with his daughter Jennifer, the memoir traces her thirty-year battle with addiction, the overdose that nearly took her life, and the slow, faith-soaked journey toward healing and forgiveness for them both. Robert speaks candidly about the fear of late-night phone calls that went unanswered, the grief of watching someone he loves dig her heels into self-destruction, and the unexpected "coincidences" he believes were God's hand at work all along. It's a raw conversation about fatherhood, faith, forgiveness, and the difference between sobriety and true recovery, and a reminder that hope is never out of reach. Friend, if you've ever wondered where God is in the middle of your pain, this conversation is for you. This week on the Anchored by the Sword Podcast, I sit down with authors Kristen Wetherell and Sarah Walton to talk about their brand-new book, Jesus Will Meet You There, releasing today, June 9th.Together, Kristen and Sarah share deeply personal stories of chronic illness, suffering, mental health struggles, family challenges, and the lessons they've learned about depending on Christ when life doesn't go according to plan.In a culture that tells us to be stronger, try harder, and handle everything on our own, this conversation offers a different message: God never designed us to be self-sufficient. Instead, our weaknesses, limitations, and struggles often become the very places where we experience the compassion, presence, and strength of Jesus most clearly. We talk about anxiety, depression, chronic illness, spiritual dryness, shame, and the pressure many Christians feel to hide their struggles. Most importantly, we discuss the beautiful truth that Jesus is not disappointed by our weakness. He knows our frame. He remembers that we are dust. And He meets us right where we are.If you're walking through a difficult season, carrying a burden that feels heavy, or simply exhausted from trying to hold everything together, I pray this conversation reminds you that you do not have to carry it alone.Jesus will meet you there. One of my favorite truths from this conversation is this:We spend so much time trying to convince ourselves that we should be stronger, more capable, and less needy. But Scripture tells a different story.God created us with limitations—not to shame us, but to draw us into dependence on Him.Our weakness is not evidence that God has abandoned us.Often, it is the very place where He draws nearest.Friend, whatever you're carrying today, remember this:You do not have to be enough.Jesus already is.Bios:Kristen Wetherell is a pastor's wife, mother, and writer. Spiritual growth requires staying rooted in the truth of who Jesus is. Pastor Ben Palka walks through Colossians 2:6–15, warning against empty philosophies and reminding believers that Christ is fully God and fully sufficient. Through the cross, Jesus has forgiven our sins, canceled our debt, and made us alive with Him. We are reminded to stand firm in Christ, trusting that He has already triumphed over every power and authority.

The first trailer for Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey is here, and we break down what it's setting up: Odysseus' brutal trek back to Ithaca after the Trojan War, the core family stakes with Penelope and Telemachus, and the trailer's biggest vibe, a battered king trying to survive long enough to get home. We also talk about how massive this movie looks, why the cast lineup feels unreal, and what the IMAX 70mm approach says about Nolan aiming for a true theatrical event ahead of its July 17, 2026 release.00:00 Trailer reaction and the basic setup (Homer adaptation, Odysseus' journey home)00:15 The main trio and what their roles look like in the trailer (Odysseus, Telemachus, Penelope)00:29 Trojan War aftermath shots, the Cyclops tease, and the trailer's scale00:44 The stacked supporting cast and Nolan going all-in on IMAX tech01:02 Theatrical event vibes, ticket demand, and the July 17, 2026 release date01:17 Listener thoughts and weekly sign-offThis looks like a survival story first, with Odysseus presented as a battered, postwar king fighting to make it back to Ithaca. The emotional spine is family: Odysseus trying to reunite with Penelope, and Telemachus searching for his father. The trailer hints at classic Odyssey challenges, including a Cyclops, while showing huge war aftermath imagery. The cast is loaded top to bottom, well beyond the main three leads.Nolan's IMAX 70mm push and new tech upgrades are meant to make this a must-see-in-theater release.Release date called out: July 17, 2026, with early screenings sounding like they're already in high demand.“Christopher Nolan's Odyssey just dropped its first trailer. Pastor Josh shares "The Long Road," a message about how God often leads us the long way for our good and His glory, drawing from Jeremiah 20:9 and Exodus 13–14. Through Israel's Red Sea moment and Miriam's song, he shows how remembering the "dry ground" builds gratitude and courage in hard seasons. Josh also tells part of 180 Life Church's own long road and points us to Jesus—the ultimate rescue we remember at the Table. Be encouraged to be still in trust and move forward in obedience.

Earlier this month, after Israel and Hamas reached a cease-fire agreement, the Israeli military said it would withdraw from parts of Gaza — allowing some Palestinians displaced to the south to try to return home to the north.Rachelle Bonja, a producer of “The Daily,” recently spoke by phone with three Gazans who were making or contemplating the journey home. One of them, Saher Alghorra, is a photojournalist who often works with The Times; another is Nidal Kuhail, a former restaurant worker whom The Times has spoken to over the course of the war.The third is Hussein Khaled Auda, a former bodybuilder who ran a small gym in Jabalia. Mr. Auda's story is about his family. His four young children were killed in airstrikes during the war, and his wife was seriously injured. He has been traveling back home in large part to find and bury the remains of two of his children, who had been in the rubble of his house after one of the airstrikes. We interviewed his wife, Rawa, and other relatives, and reviewed death certificates and video footage to help understand what happened to his family. In our reporting, The Times also learned that a cousin of Mr. Auda's was a senior leader of Hamas in Gaza who was killed during the war last year. The Times asked Mr. Auda if he himself had any ties to Hamas. He said he was not a member of Hamas and not political, and had dozens of cousins. He said he had seen the one affiliated with Hamas just a couple of times in his life.Like other news organizations, The Times has not yet been able to send its own staff journalists into Gaza unescorted. This episode, like many other Times pieces for more than two years, seeks to help our audience understand the experiences of Gazans during a devastating war.Guest: Rachelle Bonja, a New York Times audio producer for “The Daily.”Saher Alghorra, a photojournalist for The New York Times. Background reading: “Everything Is Gone”: Gazans return home to find devastation and little hope.Who were the 2,000 Palestinians freed by Israel?Photo: Saher Alghorra for The New York TimesFor more information on today's episode, visit nytimes.com/thedaily. Our guest, Dylan Park-Pettiford, is a writer, director, and author from the San Francisco Bay Area. He served as a member of the military for six years, including a deployment in Iraq during the Iraq War. Dylan wrote for the popular courtroom drama, ALL RISE, and served as a writer and consultant for 68 WHISKEY, which follows a group of army medics deployed to a forward operating base in Afghanistan. Dylan recently released his new book Roadside: My Journey to Iraq and the Long Road Home. A military memoir by a biracial child of refugees and survivors, Roadside is about life and death, about family lost and gained, and about America, as a dream and a reality. In a world marred by a seemingly endless wave of negativity, this story of love, loss, and brotherhood may offer a faint glimmer of hope as we face an uncertain future. In this episode, we talk with Dylan about his time in Iraq as part of the US Military, the impact it had on his mental health, and what it was like to return home to a world that had moved on without him, especially when the violence he thought he'd left in the Middle East followed him home. “An indelible story of war and survival. Roadside is a portrait of America, its wars, and the kids who fight them. It is also a map of the funny, tortured, and heartbreaking journey they must undertake if they want to return home.”—Elliot Ackerman, award-winning author of On Places and Names: On War, Revolution, and Returning CW: We discuss PTSD, suicidal ideation, addiction, murder, and homelessness in this episode. Cristina emphasizes the importance of mentorship and support from other women in the industry, and she highlights her commitment to investigative journalism and social issues. More About Cristina Howorun: After earning a Master's degree in Political Studies from Queen's University and working for the federal government, she answered her true calling and became a journalist. Cristina earned a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Ryerson University while flying around in a helicopter delivering traffic reports for a variety of radio and TV stations. After graduating, she worked as a Political Affairs reporter for CTV News Windsor and CTV News London before landing at CityTV in Toronto. Cristina has covered every election since 2008, she's been embedded with the troops in the Mojave Desert, tracked down a suspected terrorist in Libya, exposed shocking levels of abuse and negligence in long-term care homes and shined a light on the dangerous living and working conditions in Ontario's jails. Six years ago, Cristina received a lifesaving kidney transplant from her cousin- but in 2024 was once again diagnosed with end stage kidney disease. She is currently on dialysis- but has not let that stop her from continuing her passion for journalism, story telling and has even completed several specials and a documentary while undergoing life-sustaining therapies. She has several projects on the go, and her latest documentary “My Fake Billionaire Boyfriend” is expected to premiere on CityTV by early summer. https://www.instagram.com/howorun/ “Prison Moms”- https://toronto.citynews.ca/video/2023/05/29/full-episode-prison-moms-veracity/ "The Gun Chase" https://toronto.citynews.ca/video/2021/04/22/full-episode-veracity-the-gun-chase-a-documentary-about-torontos-gun-problem/ "Fighting Traffick" https://toronto.citynews.ca/video/2021/10/25/full-episode-veracity-fighting-traffick/ Debt to Society https://toronto.citynews.ca/video/2024/08/26/full-episode-debt-to-society-veracity/ Breaking Brethren https://toronto.citynews.ca/video/2022/03/28/full-episode-veracity-breaking-brethren/ The Long Road Home https://toronto.citynews.ca/video/2023/02/27/full-episode-the-long-road-home-veracity/ Learn more about your ad choices. Part 1- The Real Story of January 6 | Documentary Documentaries Views 3.2M • Jul-23-2022 “The Real Story of January 6,” a documentary by The Epoch Times, reveals the truth that has been hidden from the American people. While a narrative has been set that what took place that day was an insurrection, key events and witnesses have been ignored until now. The documentary takes an unvarnished look at police use of force and the deaths that resulted in some measure from it. The film asks tough questions about who was responsible for the chaos that day. With compelling interviews and exclusive video footage, the documentary tells the real story of January 6. The film is narrated by Joshua Philipp, host of “Crossroads” on EpochTV and a senior investigative reporter at The Epoch Times. Jasper Fakkert, editor-in-chief of The Epoch Times, said: “There has been a narrative perpetuated about January 6 that omits many of the facts about what happened that day. “With in-depth interviews and exclusive video footage, we take an objective look at the issues, the people, and the impacts of the events.” The film takes a close look at the shooting of 35-year-old Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt and the deaths of three other supporters of former President Donald J. Trump. It analyzes the police response to the massive crowds and use of force around the U.S. Capitol. It examines the human impacts of Jan. 6, including the suicide of one defendant and the long pretrial imprisonment of dozens of others. It also investigates claims that some attacks on the Capitol and police were carried out by unindicted suspicious actors. – What Really Happened on January 6? | The Real Story of January 6 While the dust from Jan. 6, 2021, has long cleared, it has been replaced by a smoke screen. A carefully crafted narrative has been set that claims the events of that day amounted to a “violent insurrection.” This claim, however, does not match the facts. “The Real Story of January 6” takes an objective look at what happened through the eyes of those who were there. The Epoch Times provides the first comprehensive look into what really happened that day. The Truth can't be hidden. We are Being Censored. Today is the 3 year anniversary of January 6, 2021—the day which changed our current political landscape in a myriad of ways. In fact, for 3 years now after that day, about half the country has been tarred and feathered by the legacy media as “insurrectionists” if they happened to support a certain candidate in the 2020 election.
