In 1979 he discovered legendary nightclub Paradise Garage, where DJ Larry Levan's rich, genre-less blend of music seemed to mirror his own “no boundaries” policy. White House call records now in possession of congressional investigators do not reflect calls made to or from then-President Donald Trump as the violence unfolded on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021, leaving them with gaps so far in their understanding of what transpired that day, three sources familiar with the House investigation into the insurrection tell CNN. The records the House select committee has obtained do not contain entries of phone calls between the president and lawmakers that have been widely reported in the press. Trump was known to make calls using personal cell phones, which could account for those. Two of the sources, who have also reviewed the presidential diary from January 6, 2021, say it contains scant information and no record of phone calls for several hours after Trump returned to the Oval Office after giving speech to his supporters at the Ellipse until he emerged to address the nation in a video from the Rose Garden.To learn more about how CNN protects listener privacy, visit cnn.com/privacy

The National Archives has asked the Department of Justice to investigate former President Donald Trump's handling of White House records, according to a source familiar with the matter. The source said the Archives is seeking a review of whether Trump violated the Presidential Records Act. It is not clear if the Archives will launch a formal investigation. A vast majority of referrals to the Department of Justice do not end up sparking a formal investigation. The House committee investigating the January 6 attack on the Capitol received more than 700 pages from the National Archives that former President Trump tried to block the panel from getting. Democratic Rep. Stephanie Murphy is a member of the committee. She joins AC360 to discuss what they're hoping to learn from the documents and says “we have more work to do.”  Plus, the FBI revealed today that before taking his own life, Brian Laundrie wrote in a notebook he was responsible for the death of his fiancé Gabby Petito. The notebook was discovered near Laundrie's remains back in October 2021. Former President Donald Trump appealed to the Supreme Court on Thursday to block the release of documents from his White House to the House committee investigating the January 6 riot at the Capitol, escalating his effort to keep about 700 pages of records secret. The House committee -- charged with investigating the US Capitol attack to provide recommendations for preventing such assaults in the future -- seeks the documents, currently held by the National Archives, to explore Trump's role in trying to overturn the election, including his appearance at a January 6 rally when he directed followers to go to the Capitol where lawmakers were set to certify the election results and "fight" for their county. A federal appeals court granted former President Trump's request to pause the release of key White House records from his presidency to the House select committee investigating the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. The former President appealed a lower court's decision that he can't claim executive privilege to keep them secret. CNN Chief Legal Analyst Jeffrey Toobin tells Anderson Cooper what exactly this move by the court of appeals means for the House investigation.  Plus, the defense rested in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial after calling ten witnesses. The 18-year-old gave a tearful testimony in his own defense as he faces charges that he killed Anthony Huber and Joseph Rosenbaum and wounded Gaige Grosskreutz using an AR-15-style rifle during protests last summer following the police shooting of Jacob Blake.
