Richard Glazier was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, to a family that had grown up in a small Jewish enclave on the city's South Side. In this podcast, we discuss his family's struggles with poverty and its eventual successes. Richard began studying piano at the age of six. When he was nine, he watched the 1943 film "Girl Crazy,” which featured a score by George and Ira Gershwin. Enthralled by the music, he wrote a fan letter to lyricist Ira Gershwin.Over the next three years, Glazier and Gershwin exchanged letters, culminating in an invitation for Glazier, then twelve years old, to meet Ira in Beverly Hills. During this visit, Ira asked Glazier to play a Gershwin tune on the piano that had once belonged to his brother, the legendary composer George Gershwin. Inspired by Ira's encouragement and interest, Glazier devoted himself to studying the Gershwin repertoire and the American popular songbook. Glazier earned both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Piano Performance from the Indiana University School of Music, and he later obtained a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Cleveland Institute of Music

Mark 8:34-38 Crucify Your Life -Not my life, His life (vv. 34-35) Denial of self Death of self Crucify Your Ambition Not my goals, His goals (vv. 36-37) A. Valueless yield Valuable yieldedness Crucify Your Pride Not my way, His way (v.38) He bore the shame for our blame We must bear shame for His Name More to Consider In Venezuela there are great iron mines, from which ore is shipped to the largest iron works in the world, near Philadelphia. If a man were to try to get iron out of ore with a hammer, he could not do it, because iron is not a mechanical agglutination; it is a chemical union. The ore must go into a great furnace; as the temperature rises, the iron within the ore turns to liquid, and the pure metal runs out. This is exactly how God works in your life and mine. This is why we must be salted with fire. You and I cannot hammer sin out of our lives. God loves us and He will salt us with fire until the slag is burned away and only pure metal remains. So, if you and I desire to be delivered from sin, we must be willing to go into the flame. There is no other way. Signs of the Times. Tourists to California stand in awe and admiration of the redwood tree. Something unusual happens when this giant of the forest dies or is cut down. For years sightseers in Muir's Woods near San Francisco were shown the stump of a tree which was a sapling at the time of Solomon. From this dead stump of the old tree a number of young redwoods were growing. It is peculiar to the redwood that it does not produce any young trees until it dies. At the death of one, a number of smaller ones spring up around it, getting their start and their nourishment mostly from the dead stump. What a reminder this is of the tree of the cross. It was a tree of death which became a tree of life. It had to die first before it could give life. But once cruel men had cut down Christ by crucifixion and had buried Him, He sprang forth and countless other Christians sprang forth. Signs of the Times. I counted dollars while God counted crosses. I counted gains while He counted losses! I counted my worth by the things gained in store. But He sized me up by the scars that I bore. I coveted honors and sought for degrees; He wept as He counted the hours on my knees. And I never knew 'til one day at a grave, How vain are these things that we spend life to save! Ibid. An American businessman went to Oberammergau to witness the Passion Play. Enthralled by this great drama which depicts the story of the cross, he went back stage at the conclusion of the play to meet Mr. Anton Lang, who played the part of the Christ. Our American friend snapped the picture of Anton Lang, much to Mr. Lang's discomfort. Then looking about the stage for something more to shoot with his camera, he saw over in the corner the great cross which Mr. Lang had carried up the hill to Calvary in the play. Quickly turning to his wife he said, "Here dear, you take my camera. I'm going over and lift up the cross. When I get it up on my shoulder, you snap my picture carrying the cross. Won't that be a novel and exciting picture to send home to our friends in America?" The man had hurried over beside the cross. He stooped down to lift it to his shoulder, but he could not budge it one inch off the floorthe cross was made of heavy iron-oak beam. Puffing with amazement the man turned to Mr. Lang and said, "Why, I thought it would be light. I thought the cross was hollow. Why do you carry a cross that is so terribly heavy?" Mr. Lang drew himself up to his full height and replied with compelling dignity and rebuke, "Sir, if I did not feel the weight of His cross, I could not play His part." Benjamin P. Browne

Grammy Nominated Zydeco Master Corey Ledet On a tour through Russia, Ledet was treated like royalty, complete with his own security detail. Fans rushed to touch the band's signature zydeco rubboard — the metal, shoulder-slung vest used to scratch out those infectious rhythms. Enthralled by its sound, they nicknamed it the “magic instrument.”Ledet has taken his music everywhere — Hawaii, Canada, Europe — and always hoped to capture the electricity of his live shows. But the right moment for a live album never quite appeared. That changed when the Anchorage Folk Festival invited him to perform. “When that came up, I thought, this might finally be the chance,” said Ledet, 44, a two-time Grammy nominee. “When I arrived, they had everything ready to record. I started thinking about Clifton Chenier — a lot of his best live cuts were recorded far from home. It worked for the King of Zydeco, so I figured, let me try this.” The result is Live in Alaska — the debut live album from Corey Ledet Zydeco, featuring Ledet's mysterious new accordion, “Black Magic.” After combing through three days of recordings, the band chose 11 tracks that solidify Ledet's well-earned nickname: The Accordion Dragon. The album delivers high-energy, onstage versions of English and Creole favorites from Ledet's 15 previous releases, plus a brand-new track, “Alaska Funk,” an impromptu jam born right there onstage alongside his tight-knit Louisiana crew. website www.CoreyLedet.com Social Media www.Instagram.com/coreyledetzydeco About Music Matters with Darrell Craig Harris The Music Matters Podcast is hosted by Darrell Craig Harris, a globally published music journalist, professional musician, and Getty Images photographer. Today's episode has it all — political drama, military build-ups, and yes, Elon Musk with a chainsaw. We kick off with Musk's big exit from his headline-hogging political role. He endorsed Trump, handed out millions to get out the vote, ran DOGE and even made time for a little on-stage lumberjacking. But now? He's out. We're playing some of his highlights. Then we're off to Washington, where things are heating up in more serious ways. Fiona Hill, Russia expert and former Trump adviser, gives US reporter Cameron Henderson a rare glimpse into how Putin plays the game — and why a peaceful end to the war in Ukraine still feels a long way off.And if that's not enough international intrigue for you, we're off to Poland, where the country's been rearming at a record pace. Why? Our Berlin correspondent James Rothwell is in Warsaw and will explain all. Plus, Trump's making waves again — this time in Poland's crucial presidential election runoff.Read Cameron Henderson's full interview with Fiona Hill: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/politics/2025/05/25/fiona-hill-interview-trump-terrified-putin-seen-firsthand/https://linktr.ee/BattleLinesContact us with feedback or ideas:battlelines@telegraph.co.uk @venetiarainey@RolandOliphant Hosted on Acast. Time remains the most misunderstood and mystical dimension of our experience of life. We never seem to have enough time, yet often it seems to drag by too slowly. Enthralled with the possibility of time travel and time machines, we long for the future or regret our past and wish for a way to break out of the linear progression of time. Behind all of this time fascination and obsession is the human urge to manage our destiny and feel in control of our world. Yet the secret to escaping temporal bondage is inside each of us, a soul-given power to visit the past or future and travel through the present at the speed of light. Exploring the 7 secrets of time, Von Braschler reveals how to break free from the physical world and travel through time and space via the energy body. He examines time, timelessness, and time travel from the viewpoint of mystics, shamanic dreamwalkers, and scientists, including Helena Blavatsky, C. W. Leadbeater, Albert Einstein, and Julian Barbour, as well as Hindu spiritual science. Explaining how transcending the physical body offers new hope for the treatment of illness, emotional problems, and addictions, he offers step-by-step instructions and active, out-of-body exercises to develop your time travel abilities and explore the world of energy and spirit. Emphasizing the spiritual wholeness that comes from energy body work, he shows that by visiting the past and the future we can more fully live in the now.

Podcast Overview: Danny & Will discuss the importance of residencies, the success of 'Music Is The Answer' & and DJing in the digital age.Who Is Danny Tenaglia: The momentum started building in early '70s New York, when a barely 10-year-old Danny first got the feel of vinyl in his hands. Enthralled by the music of artists like The Trammps, Marvin Gaye, African Hugh Masekela, and Giorgio Moroder, he started to collect records. In 1979 he discovered legendary nightclub Paradise Garage, where DJ Larry Levan's rich, genre-less blend of music seemed to mirror his own “no boundaries” policy. Inspired, Tenaglia would soon embark on a successful career as a DJ and producer. In the past two years, artificial intelligence (AI) has rapidly evolved from a burgeoning technology to a transformative force, reshaping industries and everyday life. Enthralled by AI's promises and potential, the tech world and society at large have surged ahead, often without pausing to consider the technology's broader implications. In her book, Code Dependent: Living in the Shadows of AI, Madhumita Murgia talks about the crucial gap in the discourse—the unintended consequences of AI. As AI redefines what it means to be human, it poses profound questions about its impact on individuals, families, societies, and cultures worldwide. A key concern is the concentration of power within a few large tech companies that control extensive data, capital, and infrastructure. The discussion extends to the impact of AI on labor, emphasizing the importance of ethical labor practices and fair wages for data workers, the challenges of biases in AI systems, and the inclusion of diverse voices in AI development to mitigate potential harms and ensure equitable advancements in technology. What are the unintended consequences of AI on global societies and cultures? Will AI deepen existing inequalities or serve as a tool for greater equity? Will it centralize power among a few or democratize access to resources and opportunities? How does the concentration of AI power affect global politics and economics? In this episode of Interpreting India, Madhumita Murgia joins Anirudh Suri to answer these pressing questions and discuss the ever-evolving nature of AI and its implications.Madhumita Murgia is the AI editor of the Financial Times, where she writes on data and emerging technologies. She was previously tech editor at The Daily Telegraph and associate editor of Wired UK. Her latest book, Code Dependent: Living in the Shadows of AI, was shortlisted for the 2024 Women's Prize for Non-Fiction.Anirudh Suri is a nonresident scholar with Carnegie India. His interests lie at the intersection of technology and geopolitics, climate, and strategic affairs. He is currently exploring how India is carving and cementing its role in the global tech ecosystem and the role climate technology can play in addressing the global climate challenge. Suri is the author of The Great Tech Game: Shaping Geopolitics and the Destinies of Nations and has also written extensively on foreign policy, geopolitics, cybersecurity, climate, technology, and entrepreneurship. The mastermind behind large-scale production of the surfboard blank, Gordon “Grubby” Clark's pioneering of polyurethane foam in constructing the modern surfboard enabled the progression of surfing as a culture. Enthralled by materials from a young age, Clark received a combined degree in math and physics from Pomona College before working as a glasser at Hobie Surfboards and as an apprentice to Tom Blake, inventor of the surfboard fin, while splitting time between Hawaii and California. When demand for foam boards proliferated across Southern California in the late 1950s, Clark was quick to employ his background toward industrializing and streamlining the production of polyurethane foam blanks, becoming the defining blank maker from the early '60s until Clark Foam's sudden and shocking closure in 2005. Since then, “Grubby” has lived and worked on a sprawling cattle ranch in Oregon, which is where host Jamie Brisick sat down and talked with Clark about the adaptation of modern surfboard design, the intricacies of foam and fiberglass, the value of an education in science, the emergence of computer programming, the shortboard revolution, and why he closed shop.
When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were ill or possessed by demons. The whole town was gathered at the door. He cured many who were sick with various diseases, and he drove out many demons, not permitting them to speak because they knew him. Mark 1:32–34 Jesus was in the home of Simon Peter whose mother-in-law He had just cured. “The whole town gathered at the door” when evening came. This was Jesus' first time being in Capernaum after beginning His public ministry, and already people were flocking to Him in droves. The next morning, Jesus got up before dawn and went away alone to pray. Soon, some of the disciples found Him and told Him that, once again, the whole town was looking for Him.The excitement was great. So many were amazed. And their amazement at Jesus was not simply a form of curiosity. It was an amazement fueled by faith, which is why Jesus was able to perform so many miracles there. The people quickly realized that Jesus was the One of Whom the prophets of old had spoken. He was the Messiah, and the people gave Him their full attention. This is a good image for us to ponder. As you think of the crowds and their unwavering desire to be near our Lord, consider your own desires pertaining to God. Do you regularly find yourself consumed with a desire to find our Lord, to be with Him, to listen to Him and to receive His grace and mercy? Or are you tempted to see Jesus and the practice of your faith as boring and uninteresting? One of the unfortunate effects of modern technology is that we easily become fascinated by and intrigued with many superficial things. Perhaps it's the latest short video on a mobile app, or the latest episode of a favorite television series, or a new post by a friend on social media. There are many things today that compete for our attention, intrigue us and even amaze us. Is Jesus one of those things in your life?In our modern world of constant stimulation and entertainment, we need to understand the difference between being amazed at the latest pop trend and being amazed by the grace and divine actions of our Lord. When we come face-to-face with the power of God in our lives, we will be amazed in a way that fulfills and satisfies us on the deepest level. It will be a spiritual amazement, which is a gift of the Holy Spirit. And the satisfaction we receive from this form of amazement is transforming, deep and sustaining. But when we turn to lesser and more sensory “amazements” common within our world today, we will find that they last only for a moment, and we are quickly left dry and wanting for more.Reflect, today, upon the people in today's Gospel who were so enthralled by Jesus that they continually sought Him out. Consider their excitement, their hope and their genuine joy at their discovery of the Messiah. As you think about them, consider whether you share in their excitement about Jesus. If that excitement is lacking, recommit yourself to seeking out our Lord. And where you see that excitement present, rejoice and give glory to God. Most glorious Lord, Your love and mercy are truly amazing. Please help me to continually see this in my life and to continually become enthralled by Your presence in my life. May I run to You always, giving You my full attention and love. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2024 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. The water's embrace, firm yet kind, Guides him through this liquid space, A world inverted, time erased, In this submerged, tranquil place. The diver swims in quiet awe, Of stalactites vast and old, In the heart of Belize's pride, Mysteries in the depths untold. With every fin's gentle sweep, He honors the ocean's hallowed zone, A scuba diver's dreamlike drift, Into the blue abyss unknown. It's Monday morning at my favorite coffee shop and I'm mesmerized by the freedom I'm witnessing. A toddler is freestyle dancing to electronic instrumentals in the middle of the busiest section of the establishment. The line wraps around her, the towering members of her species are careful not to interrupt her flow, everyone collectively ensures she has enough space to be. To dance. Enthralled by this scene, time slows and I take a sip of my black coffee with two pumps of vanilla syrup. The usual. And I try to hold back tears of joy. As usual. I realize we're collectively making space for her to dance and that's probably opening up space inside us too.
