Arise, yourself and your shadow, it's time for MAYtroidvania! You know we love a themed period of pods on this show, so for the month of May we've been (slowly) playing through some of the best Metroidvania (or 'search action' if you're a hipster) games to bring to you yet more pod goodness. First up is the Kickstarter phenomenon, the game they totally made not shite after the first trailer, the return of Igavania - Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. Y'all may remember that last year David fell in love with Igarashi's masterpiece, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, so this was an easy sell to get him playing. Does it live up to that lofty predecessor, or indeed anything else in the Igavania catalogue? Is the map too big? Is the voice acting too terrible? Is the game absolutely awesome? Listen and find out. Don't forget to leave a review, tweet us @winnerisyoupod or email awinnerisyoupod@gmail.com

This week, LeGrande and Jeremy bring the heat with all the video game stuff you need this week. LeGrande gives us his oversight of Overwatch 2, and whether it's worthy to be called a sequel. Jeremy succumbs to the siren song of game music and plays Dandara: Trials of Fear, which puts a traversal spin on the Igavania genre... but does it have any ground to stand on? We cover the news of the week, as G4TV closes again and Sony launches its PlayStation Stars loyalty program. Plus, Bayonetta voice actress calls out Platinum Games. We finish strong (and fast) with our News Speedrun! Have a listen! Alex joins our heroes once again to share his experiences with his first ever Castlevania game! It's the first game in the series to be produced by Koji Igarashi, and the hosts are split on whether the era of Igavania can live up to its reputation on this installment of the Castlevania Advance Collection Game Club. Connectivity has joined Twitter, so be sure to follow @ConnectivityNWR to be up to date on any announcements. We are wanting more listener participation, so feel free to ask questions, they may show up in the show! Please send in some hard-hitting questions for the Connectivity gang to ponder over: the address is connectivity@nintendoworldreport.com
We may be done with Castlevania on our main lineup, but it’s impossible to ignore the fact that we haven’t touched one of its most iconic entries. This bonus episode features our discussion on one of the most famous genre shifts in gaming history, establishing itself as the second half of an entire genre title. It’s really too bad that we’re both just sorta lukewarm on the whole thing. Today on Smashterpieces we’re talking about Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, the first of the franchise to be classified as “Igavania” and the second half of the “Metroidvania” name. How do we feel about comparing this game to the other half, Super Metroid? Why do we feel like this game has such a poor sense of progression? And what are our thoughts on the Inverted Castle? All this and more in today’s bonus episode! We’ll hopefully be back in a few weeks with our episode on Smashterpiece #30: The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask, stay tuned!
With a crazy intro this week, there is a ton of news to chat about this week! We go down the Igavania pathway and talk about the amazing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, but did JP actually play... This is a weekly podcast all about the Nintendo Switch where we play a new Switch game each week and talk all about collecting for our favorite system as well as the latest news and Limited Editions available! Each week we will be playing a new game for the Switch as we all need an excuse to play our games.
What's your favorite generation of Castlevania games? This episode we discuss original Castlevania style versus the power collecting, exploratory Metroidvanias from Koji Igarashi. Forced to choose between two radically different styles, Press B faces an ultimatum! Special thanks to Arthur The Last Ancient on Soundcloud for our podcast theme. It is games time, and we know you just LOVE games, right? On today's show Dale, LeGrande, and Jeremy jaw about the newest in early access, new release, and deluxe DLC that they've been playing. LeGrande kicks us off with a revisit to Crytek's PVPVE swamp stomp, Hunt: Shodown. How has the game progressed since its early alpha? Dale continues with Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the Igavania game we've all been waiting for. Does it knock his socks off and take away his abilities until he regains them later? Last, Jeremy tries out the latest life-infusion for Grand Theft Auto Online, the Diamond Casino release. Does it raise the bar, or fold? Listen and find out! The Igavania spiritual successor, Bloodstained, finally arrives. Aj endorses the slice-of-life beatem'up Friends of Ringo Ishikawa. Mario Maker 2 gives the average person a glimpse into the world of game design. Cadence of Hyrule is faithful to Zelda, but with rhythm. Samura Shodown is deadly. A RITUAL CIRCLE OF ARIAS OF THE NIGHT MOON: Mentioned last week, both Andrew and D. This week we talk about one of Alvin's favorite game series: Konami's Castlevania. We cover classics Castlevania 1-3 and the drab-yet-jazzy Super Castlevania 4, before moving on to fan favorites Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night, finishing with a brief look at the handheld "Igavania" titles and the misguided Lords of Shadow reboot.
