In this episode, we're chatting about the weird things Olivia is seeing on the dating apps, including men openly sharing on their profiles that they've been snipped or refusing to list their job. Plus, what's this whole "breadcrumbing" thing? Is it just a fancy way of saying you're leading someone on? And while we decide breadcrumbing is crappy, is it worse than someone asking you out for a date last minute? In Amy's famous words... It depends!! And it's probably just easier to have a friend who will drop everything to get ice cream with you anyway. Olivia goes on a date with a Harry Potter fan (in the spirit of "What Would Ashley & Amy Do?") and let's be clear that there's a firm line here that doesn't go to the level of Live Action Role Playing. Things we're less clear about? What the hell someone of these new Gen Z words and phrases really mean. And since Olivia is still a little salty about being called cheugy in the last episode, she's hitting Ashley and Amy with the Gen Z Word Game. For every term you don't get correct, that's a drink. Draking? Capping? Wig?? Might as well just pour two right away, folks. --- What is Shots & Thoughts? We're three 30-somethings hosting a podcast about dating, relationships, and life in general. “I have it all but I don’t do it all and that’s difference” Amy Simpson I had the honour of sitting with Amy and talking about motherhood and entrepreneurship. Sales Enablement has been gaining attention over the last several years. The basic idea is that if you provide reps with the right tools and resources they need to convert leads, they'll close more deals and drive revenue for your business. But for today's guest that's just the beginning. Amy Hrehovcik has over a decade of experience in B2B enterprise sales and Sales Enablement experience. Today she and Jeff explore her philosophy of not providing a repackaged training program, but to challenging salespeople to think differently, measure differently, be highly adaptable and break free from old frameworks. In Amy's view, sales has become too much science and too little art, and only the companies and individuals with creativity and flexibility are going to be able to succeed in driving growth and revenue during and after Covid. As she says: "Great disruption equals great opportunity." Learn more about Amy Hrehovcik here! WANT MORE WHY AND THE BUY? In this episode of the Dating Den, Marni speaks with Speaker, Coach, and Branding Expert, Amy Ogden about genuine ways to make human connections during and beyond the COVID pandemic. Amy is the brainchild behind ‘How to Catch a Human in the Wild’ and the ‘Sufficiency is Sexy’ TedX Talk. Key takeaways from this episode: Tips to expand your human network Natural, organic, genuine ways to bring people into your life Why it’s important to put down your phone How to strengthen your human connection muscle Living life with ‘New Girl’ energy Catching a Human In the Wild [6:18] Amy believes in making simple 30-second connections with other humans as she traverses NYC. She makes a commitment for the day to not use her phone during her idle times and instead focuses on the humans around her. Her intention is to make someone else’s day just a little bit better. During this pandemic, people are realizing just how alone they really are. They are begging for connection right now. She says if you are at home behind a screen, love on people through social media. If you get out of the house, love on people with a compliment. The key to making human contact is compliments and questions. It gives you something to talk about. Catching human connection is a social muscle you develop over time. Be fearless with love and be fearless with kindness. Use ‘New Girl’ Energy to Make Contact and Stay in Touch [13:24] As a woman, it is impossible for you to be creepy, so be the hero and start a conversation. Get rid of the boundaries and barriers you've been creating for years. Use exploratory energy to make the human connections you so greatly deserve. What if your new friend has a brother or co-worker who would be perfect for you? Remember, it’s about collecting data to rule a person in, not rule them out. It’s so easy to get stuck in our self-imposed status quo. Amy’s Tips for Making Connections: Talk to people who are paid to be nice to you. Talk to the people you are comfortable talking with such as kids, other women, or the elderly. Don't be afraid to bait people. Give people reasons to talk to you like wearing a shirt with a team logo on it. Sufficiency is Sexy [28:27] In Amy’s TedX Talk, Sufficiency is Sexy: The Rest is House Money, she describes how fun life can be when you take chances. Her advice is to quit holding on to what you think is going to make you happy. When you look back, you will realize that you set a bunch of goals, achieved the goals, and then set new ones. When do you take the time to celebrate? Imagine sitting with your younger self and telling them how great their life turns out. Take a moment to savor how awesome you have become. You are a human being living a human experience. Don't live your life looking at screens and ignoring the beautiful souls around you. Amy Franko is an author, speaker, and expert in modern selling and sales skills. She’s put her most recent observations and lessons-learned as a sales consultant and trainer into print in her new book, “The Modern Seller.” In this conversation, Amy and I discuss the top 5 skills every modern seller needs to have in their arsenal as well as why sales professionals need to think like an entrepreneur these days - and why it’s not always glamorous. In Amy’s words, modern sales skills must be applied holistically - a concept that surprised me in both its simplicity and its impact. This is a conversation you don’t want to miss - listen now! That means we are no longer educating clients on our products, we’re in a position to serve as a consultant to help them discover how our product can be applied best to their situation. In Amy’s new book she takes a look into what she calls the “skills behind the skills” - the things that enable us to effectively handle the needs of the modern buyer. It’s only with these kinds of modern sales skills that we will be able to meet and exceed the expectations of our customers. Listen to hear it explained as only Amy can explain it. Modern sales skills must be applied in a values-based way We all know what it feels like to be overwhelmed. The amount of correspondence and data I personally deal with on a daily basis is only one example of the type of things that contribute to those feelings. Amy points out that all of us have finite resources of time, energy, motivation, and discipline. As modern sellers, we must recognize that fact and identify where we want to spend those finite resources. It’s not your typical decision - it’s a values-based decision that we’ve got to learn how to make. If we can do it successfully, we’ve just learned the most important sales skill we could ever learn - and our effectiveness at serving customers and providing them with the value of an ongoing consultative relationship will only increase over time. .@AmyFranko says that modern #sales skills must be applied in a values-based way. It's knowing how to best use our social capital, which Amy likes to think of this way: Social capital is the collective value people create when they are in a strategic relationship. People who get this understand that the quality of their relationships determines the quality of their sales results. Sales ambassadors earn the right to be a trusted advisor to their customers One of the concepts Amy introduces in her book - which is similar to my phrase “Combative Diplomat,” but much more elegant - is that modern sellers are ambassadors. An ambassador is an owner - a person invested in their company and their results.

As you may know, I recently took up vlogging. I’ll admit, I was a little skeptical at first. But since I started this vlogging journey, I’ve realized that not only do I love it. You guys love it too! I couldn’t be more grateful for all the incredible support I’ve received, and as a special thank you gift, I’m bringing you Amy Landino’s keynote from last year’s Youpreneur Summit. Amy’s a good friend of mine and a highly respected influencer in the video and vlogging world. In Amy’s keynote, she talks about how you can launch and grow a super successful vlog that can help to market and grow your business online. Essential Learning Points From This Episode: You can make a video with one person in mind, and that same video has the power to affect the many The three main types of content to ensure the sustainability of your YouTube channel is hub, hero and help content Hub is the regularly scheduled push content that gets your current subscribers engaged (60% of your content) Hero content is your “go big” moment that’s designed to raise awareness (10% of your content) Help content is the “pull content” that targets your audience and answers their questions (30% of your content) If you want people to trust your message, you’ve got to share your experiences To achieve a sustainable YouTube channel, you must understand the purpose of your video including who it’s for and where they are right now in regard to their relationship with you You should aim to post on Instagram Stories once every 24 hours, Twitter every 24 hours, Facebook every 24 to 72 hours and on YouTube at least once a week Instead of planning, recording and editing a video each week, work in batches and save yourself time while developing a consistent upload routine You need to consider the culture of the channel you want to post your video to and cater your content for that channel Don’t think of the camera lens as a piece of technology. Think of it as the person you want to serve and try to make them feel like you’re creating the video exclusively for them Much, much more! Here are a few of the big topics we talked about: Amy shares her story of chronic Lyme disease undiagnosed for many years Her symptoms were so severe she went for experimental stem cell transplant in India She followed her intuition (against her doctor’s wishes) to try this treatment for 9 weeks Rebuilt immune, nervous systems and organs; she recovered with huge improvement Amy’s physical recovery unravelled after a year at which point she was forced to look inward and come to many realizations about her inner life She began to admit to herself that her positive and upbeat ways were forced The full healing came in from releasing all of her emotional baggage This emotional and spiritual piece was much harder than the physical recovery Rarely do we look at the whole picture of our emotional selves; the medical diagnosis process reduces down to individual small factors We have so many ways to participate in healing our illness, depression, and anxiety Emotion Freedom Technique (EFT) tapping techniques along the body’s acupuncture meridians is an active release of emotions that were stuck or held She found EFT works for her because it’s easy and felt good to her. In turn, part of Amy’s teaching is to help others do what is easy for them Acknowledging emotions and letting go of them in one fell swoop is a way to clear Amy’s book How to Heal Yourself When No One Else Can has a chapter on EFT Listening to her inner voice, intuition and trusting it has been a throughline in Amy’s life The surprising the way she knew she needed to go to India to heal her Lyme ultimately lead to meeting the love of her life there She has had a lot of confirmation that her body knows what she needs In Amy’s Voice: “I had to look at what other factors could be affecting my physical body. That’s what made me turn inward to look at the inner landscape of my life.” “It wasn’t until I got home that I was able to integrate all of the seeds from India such as ‘you can heal yourself’ and ‘mind over matter.’” “If I want to get better, what I’ve been doing isn’t working. Even if it’s not my fault, it has to be my responsibility to take part in the solution.” “Our body, immune system, and nervous systems can handle a lot but it can’t hold your whole past under the surface and deal illness.” “We have to meet our medicine halfway to do our part to bring up our immune system because our emotions can make us sick.” “We so often look last at our emotional selves, how much we’re having fun, and connections with family and friends. Those things all contribute to our inner environment.” “If I deal with acknowledging and clearing an emotion just temporarily right now, then I’m done and I can move on.” “Once we realize that emotions are only really difficult when we have to hold them for a long time, we become used to feeling angry or sad, being fine with it, and letting it pass. You realize if you allow it, it will just move.” Connect with Amy:Learn EFT with Amy! (video)WebsiteAmy’s Freebies & moreInstagramFacebookTwitter

Are you sick of relatives teasing you when you go home for the holidays with questions of “What the heck are you going to do with that degree?!” while you expound upon your French Fine Arts & Philosophy double major? Do they say things like, “The only good poet is a dead poet” when you share you started a new monthly reading series in a haunted basement? If these taunts sounds familiar, you might want to speak with Amy McBride, the Arts Administrator for the office of Arts and Cultural Vitality, Tacoma, WA. Amy is an excellent example of how a liberal arts background can provide the skills necessary in cultivating a career combining various passions and interests. In Amy’s case, that just so happens to be a long and well-respected position with city government. Catalyst hosts Taryn Stroop and Shannon Halverson-Gorajia speak with the no-nonsense Amy McBride about her path to government, and the need to hear the voices of the arts, humanities and social sciences when considering policy and initiatives that affect community.
Total Duration 49:26 Download episode 174 Is Tech Making Life Better or Worse? Tech is ruining our life. Or at least that's what plenty of people are suggesting. There's evidence showing that culturally we're more depressed and distracted than ever, and tech has at least some responsibility for that. Yet at the same time tech is providing rich opportunities to grow and learn. So which is it? Is tech making it more difficult to thrive? Or is it helping us thrive? According to Amy Blankson, the answer is both, depending on how you use it--today and in the future. Amy joins us to talk about her new book The Future of Happiness: 5 Modern Strategies for Balancing Productivity and Well-Being in the Digital Era. In Amy's research, she's found that ultimately the most balanced, satisfied, and happy individuals use five key strategies, not just to survive but also to actually thrive in the Digital Era: They stay grounded in the face of distraction. They use technology to know themselves on a deeper level. They know when and how to use technology to train their brains to reach their full potential. They structure their surroundings to create a habitat for happiness. They innovate consciously to enrich the world around them. I look forward to sharing Amy's insights with you in this episode. On today’s episode, Amy Mewborn discusses how she jumpstarted her career and now designs strategies for others to do the same. Amy is a serial entrepreneur, CEO, author, and operations and strategy expert. She teaches women business owners how to use technology and systems to leverage their business growth and maximize profits through automation. In this episode, we discuss, -Amy’s health journey and how she escaped the 9-5 -Building an information highway through automation technology -What to do if your launch falls flat in the online space -Mindset challenges women need to address to kick start their business -And so much more! Amy discusses the importance of taking action when branching out into new business opportunities. In Amy’s experience, she states, “You have to have the courage to take a risk, because if you don't, one day you will wake up and your entire life will go by and you've been going through the motions but never really got to where you want to be. Listen to your intuition, no one knows what is better for you than you do yourself and do as much research and be as well prepared as you possibly can.” Amy describes the reciprocal relationship between passive income streams and personal independence as a result of automation. She states, “The more time that you can free up from the things that you are doing, the more revenue streams you can potentially create, the more income you can have, the more clients you can see, and the more time you can have off and have fun…That’s when our creative energy starts to flow.“ Amy embraces taking risks because failure can offer an equally beneficial learning experience. From her experience, she states, “Had I given up after falling flat on my face the first time, I would have just thought I would never be able to make it… it's just about going back and looking at what worked and what didn't work and how you're going to adjust going forward.” For women who are hesitant to pursue a new venture, Amy reassures us that, “As women, we always wonder if we are good enough—is what I have to offer really any different or more valuable or anything better than what is already out in the market place? We don't think about how we do business with people we know, we like, and we trust… We constantly have to break through that mindset that we are not enough because there is probably someone out there who is just like us and is waiting for us to share our gifts and secrets with the world.“ For more information about Amy: Amy Mewborn is a serial entrepreneur, CEO, author, and operations and strategy expert.
