They don't understand the concept of an RSS feed. 09:57 How Daniele finds Facebook useful for finding other stutterers.10:48 What the Stuttering is Cool podcast has given him.11:38 Being part of the podcaster community has brought him opportunities he previously wouldn't have had. 13:15 Social media tools such as webcams, Utterli, Skype, Seesmic and ooVoo have helped to change the stuttering experience.15:00  Eden and Connie thank Daniele for the interview.15:34 Question from Jane Rowe (http://movingstationery.wordpress.com) about less-developed groups in the B2B industry and using social media to bring them together. How can she engage their customers? How can they test and learn?16:50 Connie draws a parallel with work by people in her industry, librarians. She suggests reading the book and working through the website Groundswell by Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff. Days 5, 4 & 3 Still working on the rough cut, focusing on story pacing, removing things that take you out of the story. I'm reflecting a lot on the meaning of craft, the subject of my film, and being as tired as I am I'm afraid I'm not completing whole thoughts. I'm gaining spontaneity at the price of coherency when I'm not reading off a script. You tell me if it's worth it! About five and a half minutes into the show I'm trying to make a point about the life craftspeople try to lead and I'm using a sports competition metaphor and it utterly fails. What I'm trying to say in this instance is that the measure of success is the process of work and learning they're engaged in, their life's journey, not a specific accomplishment or feat. Trust is a perennial issue for me, and exercising trust in the audience is what I need to do as I continue this edit. Just as Jay Moonah said At  Podcaster's Across Borders this past June, the content is the audience. They create meaning out of the context of their experiences, in this case, watching this film when it's done. Learning to trust that people are paying attention and pulling all the disparate pieces and ideas within the film to create a whole that leads them to… what, my way of thinking. No, this film is not like driving cattle through a narrow, fenced in path (don't know the name of the path, sorry), but I do hope that it will direct people to think about specific ideas with new understanding. Providing some understanding, that's sufficient for me.

Welcome to our first episode! Run time: 22:23Community Divas on iTunesThis is a podcast about communities because, coming from different backgrounds, our mutual interest is community building and we wanted to share our unique perspectives.  Each week we'll be interviewing people who are known for their leadership roles in different communities followed by a discussion of different online tools and their role in community building. In this episodeWe present Part 1 of our interview with Jay Moonah, a podcaster, marketing strategist, musician and a driving force behind the social media unconference Podcamp Toronto. He blogs and podcasts at MediaDriving.com. His bands are Uncle Seth and The McFlies.Connie and Eden discuss Twitter, and Connie's account being deactivated. Eden poses the question: Is Twitter a community? He sees overlap between the groups. He is also part of other communities unrelated to these.04:09 The value of online communities depends on how active a group is in working towards its goals and values. For example, meet-ups or people helping one another creates value. 05:35 The value that Podcamp brings to the community. Jay points out that Podcamp is both an event and a community. He sees the real value is in people talking to one another. He also explains that the people organizing and helping to put the event on get even more value from taking part.08:35 Will there be a Podcamp Toronto 2009?12:40 We ask Jay if there is anything that he does to build community around his Media Driving blog and podcast.  He says his podcast mostly lets him talk to himself in his car. Are we surprised? ;-)16:59 Eden asks Connie about her Twitter account being deactivated. Welcome to the longest show I've posted to date. On average these shows run about 15 minutes and when they've gone over  3o minutes I tend to break them into parts. The main reason for the length, which is about 52 minutes, is the inclusion of multiple comments and excerpts from presentations from PAB. My main goal here is to give you a sense of the event, which is quite unique among conferences. But the downside is how much time it adds to the show. And editing multiple interviews complicates the production process. Even up to the last few hours before posting I found some errors that required me to rerecord some sections. Most of the changes are changes in attributions, another time sink in production, which I got wrong on the first recording pass. I'm satisfied with the final show, even though it's long. If it's a bother, let me know, I'm compressing it down as much as I can. In the future, I'm thinking about using Apple's AAC format, which makes mp3 files smaller but retains higher quality. It also allows me to bookmark and add graphics, but, as far as I know, AAC files only play on iTunes and iPods and I don't want to exclude any listeners. Any thoughts? Because I am including a number of voices besides my own I've added a note at the bottom of the blog that indicates the type of Creative Commons license I'm using, which is attribution, non-commercial, share alike. I'll talk a little more about CC in a future show, right now understand that you can use all or part of this show as long as you include the name of the speaker and where the audio came from. You can't sell it and if you include any part of it in your own podcast you are bound by the same license. Thanks to Connie Crosby for pointing me the the right direction on this topic, for some reason I find the legal aspects of publishing baffling. This show is about my experience at Podcaster's Across Borders and begins with my personal thoughts about the event. Halfway through I have some excerpts of presentations and some brief commentary on what I took away from the experience and then I finish with a series of interviews I recorded at the end of the weekend as the room slowly emptied. It was a great experience and I've put in a lot of effort trying to put into words what it all meant, because, as I try to explain, PAB wasn't your regular new media conference. Lots of people were trying to figure it out besides me. Check out the comments on David Peralty's blog and you'll see a wide range of reactions. If you're just interested in the excerpts I've got the timecode listed below. In addition, all the presentations will be posted at Podcaster's Across Borders throughout the summer. Subscribe!I've also listed the names and URLs of all the people mentioned or heard in this show. Some have podcasts, some blogs and some are thinking about it.If there was any message or call to action people took away from the event (and there was plenty) one of the most important was find your voice and share it. Another in our fine series of road episodes.. In this one, Dave had just returned from Toronto. While he was there he went to the Futureplay conference (where he was the official blogger) and attended the Toronto Podcast Meetup. The conference was pretty cool, and there were people there from all over the world, including a video game design team from Sweden that made a game for the DS where you serve drinks to bar patrons (seems they know Dave well....) This was probably the first year where someone mentioned that there might be a darker side to games. That said, the conference focussed on the positive. The podcaster meetup included Sage, Katherine, Scarborough Dude, Jay Moonah from Uncle Seth, John Meadows and Mark Blevis (among others). The meetup was a blast, and a great time was had by Dave and the crazy left wing nuts in the Canadian podcasting community.... Next tim eit is off to Paraguay, honestly. Oh, Canada is still ranked number 2 by the IIHF, but we do have the Hockey Hall of Fame which Dave walked by each time he went from his hotel to the conference, so really, we are better than Sweden...
