Recorded at Podcamp 2023, here's a talk about breaking all the rules in podcasting: “By day, Diana teaches students within The Creative School at TMU to know their audience and create compelling visual content. By night, Diana does the exact opposite: she creates podcast content for herself more than for her audience — with no set production schedule, no set show format, no set episode length, no less! — in a decidedly non-visual format. And it's the best thing she's ever done. Learn the way Diana uses podcasting as a creative outlet (that sometimes interweaves with her day job), allowing her to explore new topics, speak with interesting people and create a body of work that's opened doors she didn't know existed. Be inspired to create your own podcast that breaks all the rules and is uniquely you.”I'm all about interesting projects with interesting people! Let's Connect on the web or via Instagram. :)

This week I'm excited to bring you this informative and topical conversation I had with Christopher S. Penn about the realities, myths, and dare I say productivity applications within ChatGPT and similar language based software tools which I'm sure you have noticed are getting more and more attention in the realms of social media, tech chatter, and even politics. I've known Christopher for years and I can't think of anyone more qualified to guide me and you through this topic. Christopher bridges the gap between marketing and technology. What he shares on social media and writes about helps you understand marketing and technology better plus he is a better coder than most marketers, and a better marketer than most coders. By having one foot in both worlds, he finds solutions that work in one place and brings them to the other. Christopher speaks publicly about digital marketing, marketing technology, and machine learning/artificial intelligence. He is the co-founder of Trust Insights, a data analytics company focused on helping you make more money with your data, a co-founder of PodCamp with Chris Brogan, and co-host of the Marketing Over Coffee marketing podcast with John Wall. In this chat Christopher breaks down the real world applications of ChatGPT while explaining its limitations and ways to maximize the effectiveness of the tool. We discuss some of the ethical and political concerns swirling around the technology while dispelling some of the more hysterical myths that have been propagated online and in print. Regardless of your familiarity with this technology this is a great primer for understanding and maximizing these tools for a wide range of both creative, and labor intensive tasks. Less bugs, more microphones—this is how we like to commune with the elements here at D&Z. Cincinnati Public Radio's first-ever PodCamp brought together students from across the region on a recent Sunday afternoon to brainstorm, develop, and record their own mini-podcasts, with inspiration and tech help from some creative pros. Here's what the three teams came up with... and then some. Introduction: Jordan Polk, of Elementz, recent alumnus of Democracy & Me and the University of Cincinnati Part 1: Lost in Transition Real talk about what these Covid school years have done to us, with Norah Zellen and Annabelle Freeman of Nagel Middle School; Emmalee Brammer of North Adams H.S., and Olivia Kelly of Winton Woods H.S. Content advisory: This segment contains references to self-harm, suicide, vaping, and drug use. Part 2: #Overrated Pawan Rai of Aiken New Tech H.S. and Jonathan Moody of Walnut Hills H.S. explain why that movie (which they may or may not have seen) is not as good as you think it is. Also: geometry class. Too many numbers. Part 3: Mind Your Business The real problem is that too many people (and some entire countries) are paying attention to all the wrong things. With Sydnie Barrett of Walnut Hills H.S., and Syriene Djakata and Joyeuse Muhorakeye of Aiken H.S. Part 4: Playback Circle Time We came, we played, we podded: PodCampers and staff work the picket line and reflect on the day's lessons. Incidental audio featuring the students with D&Z producer Julie Coppens, CET-TV education producer Mark Lammers, guest artists Candice Handy of Cincinnati Shakespeare Co., Jordan Polk of Elementz, and Harrison Hensley and Ellyn Broderick of ComedySportz OTR. Special thanks to Mark, Kristen Teter and all our friends at CET-TV for co-hosting, WVXU audio engineer Derrick Smith for working the board, “Start Hear” podcast producer Tripp Eldredge for giving us the lowdown, and to Myles Bess of KQED's “Above the Noise” for an awesome pep talk. With a background encompassing almost all aspects of the social media landscape, she often describes herself as a "media mixologist" -- combining new technology with storytelling and community to create successful events, formulate practical success strategies for organizations, and deliver client results. She has been podcasting since 2005, and was part of the birth of podcasting as an industry. In 2007, Jennifer founded National Podcast Post Month (aka NaPodPoMo), a community event that encourages folks to create 30 podcasts in 30 days during the month of November. This event gave new podcasters a chance to "fail fast and get good" while motivating veteran podcasters to experiment with new technology and new podcast formats. This year, NaNoPodMo is celebrating its 14th anniversary of inspiring podcast innovation. With the recent popularity of live audio platforms like Clubhouse and new live audio features like Twitter Spaces, she now hosts live weekly audio sessions on both platforms. Jennifer has been featured in television and newspaper interviews on topics ranging from mobile technology to user-generated conference events to social media trends. She has spoken about podcasting and social media at conferences across the country and at local events like She Podcasters, WordCamp San Antonio and BlogItSA. Jennifer is no stranger to hosting podcasting and social media events and in October of 2019, hosted the inaugural Texas Podcast Conference (TexasPodCon) which received rave reviews. She has been featured on KENS5 Sunday AM and Great Day SA to discuss podcasting. Through her company, Brewing Media, Jennifer provides virtual event production, podcast coaching and production services, and social media coaching to agencies, entrepreneurs and non-profits. Founded in 2010, the company's services are in high demand with the continued boom of virtual events, podcasting, and social media storytelling. Whether it's helping clients set up their entire social media presence, giving them the push they need to start podcasting, or coaching them on the finer points of social media marketing, Jennifer and the team at Brewing Media bring years of diverse experience to the table. Her recent focus has been helping clients create engaging virtual conferences and podcasts around PR and Communication, financial services, specialty insurance, and professional coaching services. Clients and colleagues praise Jennifer's "unparalleled mastery of social media tools and techniques", calling her a "true expert" in social media. With a clear talent for the challenging task of organizing social media communities in the offline world, Jennifer founded the San Antonio Podcasters Group and was a co-Founder of the San Antonio chapters of two international organizations: Social Media Club and Social Media Breakfast. In addition to community groups, Jennifer was at the forefront of bringing "unconferences" (participant-driven events) to the Alamo City such as PodCamp, Barcamp, Startup Weekend, TweetCamp and MobiCamp. She has also been involved in providing social media coverage at TEDxSanAntonio, Innotech San Antonio, the EFS Business Conference, the San Antonio Manufacturer's Association, and FIRST in Texas, among many others. In 2010 she was honored with a Texas Social Media Award from the Austin-American Statesman, with the judge noting that "it's rare that you find an event in the city that hasn't been organized or touched by her in some way".

Christopher S. Penn bridges the gap between marketing and technology. What he shares on social media and writes about on his blog helps you understand marketing and technology better. He's a better coder than most marketers, and a better marketer than most coders. By having one foot in both worlds, he finds solutions that work in one place and brings them to the other – including you. He speaks publicly about digital marketing, marketing technology, and machine learning/artificial intelligence. He's the co-founder of Brain+Trust Insights, a data analytics company focused on helping you make more money with your data, a co-founder of PodCamp with Chris Brogan, and co-host of the Marketing Over Coffee podcast with John Wall. Follow Christopher on Twitter at @cspenn. He can also be found on LinkedIn and the Marketing Over Coffee group.   You'll Learn: Christopher's career evolution from a pure technology background to marketing technology or MarTech. Why Christopher believes there's a lot wrong with current Influencer Marketing. Content Marketing always had a cover charge, but it's a lot higher if your content sucks. What you create has got to be better than the alternatives. Why Facebook won't win the fight against #FakeNews Humans must make sure historical bias doesn't affect machine learning by being model checkers.   3 Key Points:  NO ONE is safe from the coming AI revolution! You must remain flexible and willing to adapt quickly because the industry changes so rapidly. You can't be left-brained or right-brained anymore. What some people may not know, is that he is also the cofounder of the PodCamp new media conference series, and has spent over sixteen years trying to help others understand technology, media and how to create a more human/humane kind of business. Now, he's publishing all kinds of stuff, creating events, teaching and more. He has an online magazine called, Owner, and just launched a really smart book called, The Freaks Shall Inherit The Earth.
