ParentingAces - The Junior Tennis and College Tennis Podcast
Welcome to Season 13, Episode 36, of the ParentingAces Podcast, a proud member of the Tennis Channel Podcast Network. This week, Lisa chats with the mom behind Raising Happy Champs, a UK-based enterprise to help parents in all youth sports as they navigate through the obstacles of their children's chosen passion. Jen Harris was sitting at her daughter's gymnastics meet when another parent asked her for advice with her own child. After chatting with the parent, Jen realized that with her psychology training and degree, she might be able to offer something to other sports parents that wasn't available in the UK. She decided to go back to school to pursue a Master's degree in sport and exercise psychology. For her final dissertation she developed and tested an approach to sports parenting she calls the Super-P approach. Jen is now pursuing a PhD so she can further refine and test Super-P. Says Jen, "It is very important to me that my support program was designed using sport psychology research." What will you gain from the Super-P program? You'll gain valuable insights and tools to improve communication with your child athlete. Effective communication is key to building a strong relationship with your child athlete. In this workshop, you'll learn proven strategies to improve communication and strengthen your bond with your child. You'll get science and psychology backed approaches to parenting child athletes. Super-P is based on the latest research in science and psychology, ensuring that you have access to the most effective and up-to-date strategies for supporting your child athlete. The Super-P Approach will improve your child's performance through practical strategies to keep your child calm. This will help your child athlete perform better in competitions and events. Jen is close to finishing her PhD program and continues to work with parents across a range of youth sports. If you're interested in learning more about her Super-P program, you can check out her website at www.raisinghappychamps.com. To reach out to Jen directly, email her at info@raisinghappychamps.com. President Joe Biden just ramped up tariffs on electric vehicles, solar cells and other products made in China. It marks Biden's latest move in an ongoing tech and trade war with Beijing, as well as his newest attempt to show voters he's tougher on China than 2024 challenger Donald Trump. On POLITICO Tech, former White House senior director of international economics, Jen Harris, joins host Steven Overly to break down Biden's trade approach to China and how she thinks he should be selling it on the campaign trail.
I'm delighted to speak with Jen Harris this week. Jen is an expert in the field of parenting in youth sport. As the mother of a child athlete Jen was struck how little help there is for parents and decided to help change this. She undertook a Masters degree in Sport Psychology, the focus of which was parenting in youth sport. For her dissertation she created the Super-P Approach; an easy to teach parental communication style which can significantly reduce worry levels in child athletes. Jen is now completing her PhD at The University of Edinburgh to extend the research into her Super-P Approach. Jen has also launched a business, Raising Happy Champs, which offers workshops and an extensive e-learning program to parents of children involved in competitive sport. Jen teaches parents sport psychology principals and how to apply them to improve their child's experience of sport. In this episode we speak about Jen's experiences as a sport parent and we discuss the results of a study Jen undertook along with Prof Dave Collins and Dr Christine Nash entitled “Let's Hear It From the Kids! Examining the Experiences, Views, and Needs of Highly Committed Children Involved in Youth Sport”.

Subscribe: iTunes | Android | Spotify | Email | RSS "The sole secret to success in the art world is to keep making art." -Poet Jen Harris At one time or another, we all struggle to find our place in this world. Some of us much more than others. At times one finds themselves dismissed from their family because they don't fit into the traditional, comfortable box of the family's morality. Jen Harris experienced this first hand as she tried to identify her place in a gay, lesbian, queer life. This conflict within herself and within her very traditional midwest family led to an early path in adulthood that one might expect. Drugs, alcohol, and a despondent sense of confusion and betrayal. Fortunately Jen was able to pour out the booze and pour her soul into writing, and subsequently performing her poetry. She has since shared her art all over the country, inspiring others who find themselves in similarly painful and confusing times. This podcast is real, and it's raw, and we get down to the nitty gritty of what it truly means to share one's deepest, darkest demons as a way of stepping out into the light of love and life. images used by permission poetjenharris.com Jen Harris on Patreon @media only screen and (max-width:800px) {.fusion-title.fusion-title-23{margin-top:10px!important;margin-bottom:10px!important;}}MORE CRAVE MAGAZINE PODCASTS.fusion-portfolio-wrapper#fusion-portfolio-23 .fusion-portfolio-content{ padding: 25px 25px 25px 25px; text-align: center; }.fusion-portfolio-23 .fusion-portfolio-wrapper .fusion-col-spacing{padding:20px;}Crave Magazine2020-04-10T15:36:08-06:00 Ep37 Adrianne Tamar Arachne Ep37 Adrianne Tamar ArachneCrave Magazine2020-03-02T18:24:49-07:00 Ep36 Lé Secret Ep36 Lé SecretCrave Magazine2020-03-02T20:18:25-07:00 Ep35 Ariana Gradow Ep35 Ariana GradowCrave Magazine2020-03-02T20:15:42-07:00 Ep34 Ben Makinen Ep34 Ben MakinenCrave Magazine2020-03-02T20:13:48-07:00 Ep33 Morgan Mandala & Randal Roberts Ep33 Morgan Mandala & Randal RobertsCrave Magazine2020-03-02T20:09:06-07:00 Ep32 Gamelan Tunas Mekar Ep32 Gamelan Tunas MekarCrave Magazine2020-03-02T20:06:36-07:00 Ep31 Talk Gallery Ep31 Talk GalleryCrave Magazine2020-03-02T20:03:56-07:00 Ep30 Andrew Clark Ep30 Andrew ClarkCrave Magazine2020-03-02T20:01:02-07:00 Ep29 Joshua Gillow Ep29 Joshua GillowCrave Magazine2020-03-02T19:58:59-07:00 Ep 28: Okuda San Miguel Ep 28: Okuda San MiguelCrave Magazine2020-03-02T19:54:08-07:00 Ep 27: Kendall Burks Ep 27: Kendall BurksCrave Magazine2020-03-02T19:50:14-07:00 Ep26: Mythica von Griffyn Ep26: Mythica von GriffynJim Wills2020-03-02T19:48:03-07:00 Ep25: Jim Wills Ep25: Jim WillsCrave Magazine2020-03-02T19:43:48-07:00
