Go to www.PowerofProfitability.com to get that. Summary: Jennifer Peek is the founder of Peek Advisory Group and The CFO School which help businesses build sustainable profits for long-term business success and create business legacies. Her 20+ years of corporate experience combined with 10+ years of personal entrepreneurship focused on business profitability, valuation and transition uniquely qualify Jennifer to provide businesses with proven insights for focused growth and compounding results. Here are the highlights of this episode: Jennifer has shared with us that they've been working usually with business owners who knows exactly who their customers are, what services & products they offer, but they're still stuck on that profit-cashflow rollercoaster. her team then tries to help these folks to gain a consistent, sustainable, profitability. And the biggest payoff for that is that it helps people sleep better at night because they stop being constantly worried. Most business owners face the underlying level of anxiety; a wondering question like "Is this going to be a profitable month or not?". So, this overall anxiety shows up in different ways. The first thing these people do is to chase revenue, because revenue or sales will fix everything. However, they don't really look at what that cost is. Another thing they do is to cross-cut their way to profit. A bunch of little things that even when they cut them a 100% it will not make a big difference. If someone wonders "Which is important; revenue or profit?" because you can't have profit until you have revenues, it's like the 'chicken and the egg' question. The answer is that there should be a balance. Whatever happens so much with revenue, that's where the focus becomes. And the media is not helping with that. "What's your revenue? The size of your company is measured by the revenue..." but you can have a 10 million dollar company and be losing money. So, it's really that balance. Also, it's important to know that regardless where companies are in their business life cycle, to be balancing those and to look at them equally and not over corrected in one direction or the other. Jennifer's Valuable Free Action (VFA): She said that it's important to know that not all of your revenue is created equally. Take a good look at where your revenue is, not only where it's coming from but what is it generating for you. Because you don't want to chase revenue that's just going to give you the same results. It will just become as same problem but bigger number.

At Peek Advisory Group, she consults with business owners identifying business gaps and opportunities to increase value and prepare them for the next stage of business evolution from growth to varied exit strategies. What you will learn from this episode: How Jennifer left her corporate career ten years ago and started her own company, Peek Advisory Group, bringing corporate experience to small and midsized companies Why the type of economic and social recovery we will see in a post-COVID world is impossible to anticipate Why developing the right mindset, seeking out strategic opportunities, and doubling down can help you through this crisis How the lens you view the world through determines your outlook, and why the widespread belief that businesses are all in survival mode isn’t always the case Why the Harvard Business Review’s article Roaring Out of Recession is worth reading, especially during this challenging time Jennifer explains her “opportunistic mindset” and shares the importance of expanding your social outreach efforts Why you don’t want to be losing ground or staying stagnant during this crisis, and why you want to work to position your business to capitalize on opportunities in the future Why recognizing your clients’ or customers’ changing habits can help you develop new product and service offerings in the future. Why this is the ideal time to be doubling down on content and on reaching out to new potential clients with helpfulness, not sales Why the most important lesson Jennifer learned from a mentor over the course of her career is the need for a willingness to shut everything down and start over Resources: Harvard Business Review’s Roaring Out of Recession: https://hbr.org/2010/03/roaring-out-of-recession Website: http://businessvaluequiz.com Website: https://peekadvisory.com/ LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/jenniferjpeek/ Additional Resources: Sell With Authority by Drew McLellan and Stephen Woessner: https://amzn.to/39y7x13 Predictive ROI Free Resource Library: https://predictiveroi.com/resources/ Stephen Woessner’s LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/stephenwoessner/

This week, Gavin discusses the technique of developing and strengthening businesses through mergers and acquisitions, from one of the most experienced people in the world in this field, Jennifer Peek of Peek Advisory. Jennifer talks about the importance of having impartial guidance through the acquisition process, and why now may be the ideal time to begin thinking about mergers in your own company. KEY TAKEAWAYS Business owners in the twilight of their business life, may well be looking at the post-COVID world, and wondering whether they have the energy to pivot effectively. This makes it a wonderful time to be in the market for acquisitions. A great place to get started when thinking about expanding is to contact your professional network (lawyers, accountants etc), who may already be in contact with companies open to merger. There is bound to be an initial period of frenzied activity when businesses jumpstart back into life, but this will be followed by a lull, and that is when opportunities will be at their greatest. A loss of enthusiasm or energy for your business may not be a signal that you need to sell, but that you need to hand off operations to someone who does have the necessary energy levels. BEST MOMENTS ‘You don’t want everyone’s biggest dream to become their worst nightmare’ ‘If you’re looking to buy a business, assume that you’ll have to have some kind of active role in it’ ‘I don’t want to try and catch a falling knife’ ‘You’ve expanded exponentially your ability to exit the business' VALUABLE RESOURCES The Business Mastermind Podcast To secure your place on the Game Changer Summit, go to www.bit.ly/gamechangergavin Jennifer Peek LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/jenniferjpeek/ Peek Advisory - https://peekadvisory.com ABOUT THE HOST Gavin Preston Gavin is an inspirational Speaker, Business Strategist, Business Growth Mentor, Trainer and high-performance Coach. This week on the She Buys It Podcast, Whitney sits down with Jennifer Peek. Jennifer started with apartments and is now working on 1031 Exchanges and a Delaware Investment Trust. Jennifer has been investing for 12 years. It all started with Jennifer and her husband looking at duplexes and single-family homes while they worked for corporate America. Their next-door neighbor who was a real estate attorney and had done a lot of development said, "What do you think about commercial properties?" This led them down a path into looking at apartment buildings. Their first apartment buildings were red brick boxes that were 100 years old and had 12 units in them. They bought the first one and closed on the second one 3 months later. Why did they decide to get into real estate? Jennifer and her husband decided that they needed to diversify their investments. They wanted to make it into an income stream for the future so they could retire comfortably. Their goal was to start this process while they still had their corporate jobs so if they messed it up that they would still have their paycheck to fall back on. Listen in to the rest of this week's edition of the She Buys It Podcast to hear Whitney and Jennifer talk about staying in real estate when it gets tough, the flexibility of real estate investing, getting into real estate with your partner, and 1031 Exchanges and Delaware Investment Trusts. You can grow and math the fact that you've got products or services that aren't that profitable. But because you're just continually adding revenue, it doesn't really show up the way that it would if you were just in a flat revenue state.” –Jennifer Peek Why you have to check out today’s podcast: Discover why it is important to understand your company’s financial and operational value Identify any potential hiccups that your business might be having that affects your profitability Learn how having a system in place helps you manage your business growth for profit Learn More about the 3X Value Growth™ Model Go to www.3xvaluegrowth.com/model Episode Takeaway: How having a system in place helps a business manage its profitability? “In a fast-growing company, business owners haven’t necessarily put a lot of systems in place to be able to monitor their profitability. And that’s a little bit more of a gray area for them. So, they focus on the things that aren’t going to get them a big return on their investment, and they’re still going to have cash flow problems.” –Jennifer Peek Resources|Links Do You Know Your Business Value? If you’re in business, you probably have or consult with a CPA. CPAs crunch numbers, they provide business advice, and they oftentimes tell us what we’re doing wrong. And like most folks who leave corporate to pilot their own ship, she found out it was harder than she thought it would be! Jennifer joins us to talk about the lessons she’s learned in 9 years of running her business.
What is your business worth? Do you know? Most of us who own and run our own businesses think we know what our enterprise is worth. She tells us what mistakes business owners make that devalue their company and how to fix them. Whether you plan on selling your business or not, you can apply the information Jennifer dishes out. Business owners are always looking for ways to improve their company value. They might want to sell the company later down the road or even get more financing, and their company has to have the numbers to justify it. However, there are three big mistakes companies make when it comes to improving their company value, which today’s guest will dive into! Jennifer Peek is a Value Advisor for Peek Advisory and is a CPA, CVA, venture investor, and so much more! She has worked with small businesses all the way up to billion-dollar companies on increasing their overall value and preparing them for their next business stage. Jennifer worked for a public accounting firm for about five years; it was there where she saw her family-owned business clients really struggle with a transition. A lot of them were the 3rd or 4th generation in the business but were seeing problems when the 5th generation no longer wanted to be part of the family business. Fast forward a few years later, Jennifer was working in Mergers and Acquisitions for a large company who was considering selling some of their smaller companies off to a competitor and buying up other smaller businesses in the region. It was here where Jennifer got hands-on and insider experience as to what companies look for before they buy and before they sell. When it comes to common mistakes business owners make, reducing your taxes is the biggest one that comes to mind. It’s natural for business owners to want to pay less in taxes while they are starting their business. Because of this, they work diligently with their tax advisors to bring their liabilities down. However, this can actually affect your company value if you’re looking for a successful exit. Jennifer worked with a client where his company evaluation was about half of what he was expecting, but through a little bit of work and tweaking, he was able to get his numbers where he needed to be for a successful exit within a year.
