Friends and relatives paid him visits and, with exaggerated smiles, assured him that they thought he looked fine. Dahlmann listened to them with a kind of feeble stupor and he marveled at their not knowing that he was in hell. A week, eight days passed, and they were like eight centuries. One afternoon, the usual doctor appeared, accompanied by a new doctor, and they carried him off to a sanitarium on the Calle Ecuador, for it was necessary to Xray him. […] When he arrived at his destination, they undressed him, shaved his head, bound him with metal fastenings to a stretcher; they shone bright lights on him until he was blind and dizzy, auscultated him, and a masked man stuck a needle into his arm. He awoke with a feeling of nausea, covered with a bandage, in a cell with something of a well about it; in the days and nights which followed the operation he came to realize that he had merely been, up until then, in a suburb of hell. Ice in his mouth did not leave the least trace of freshness. During these days Dahlmann hated himself in minute detail: he hated his identity, his bodily necessities, his humiliation, the beard which bristled up on his face. Memoria"Mostra fotografica a Palazzo Reale di Milano.Al Piano Nobile di Palazzo Reale a Milano, la grande mostra antologica dedicata a Ferdinando Scianna che si arricchisce per l'occasione di due importanti sezioni inedite, una dedicata a Leonardo Sciascia e l'altra, la “Bibliografia”, che presenta una selezione dei libri di Scianna, dal primo, “Feste Religiose in Sicilia”, divenuto raro e prezioso nel tempo, fino alle ultimissime pubblicazioni.I due furono amici per tutta la vita come testimoniano più di un migliaio di fotografie, per lo più inedite, scattate nelle estati a Racalmuto e nei numerosi viaggi insiemeUn album di famiglia che ritrae Sciascia in una dimensione privata perché "finché non mi ha fatto l'offesa terribile di morire, è rimasto il mio angelo paterno". Fu un rapporto fondamentale nella vita di Ferdinando Scianna che scrive: "l'amicizia è come uno scambio delle chiavi delle rispettive cittadelle individuali, è l'acquisizione del reciproco diritto di utilizzare ciascuno dell'altro, gli occhi, la mente, il cuore".Una piccola parte di queste foto sono diventate un libro: "Scianna fotografa Sciascia" (1989) che lo scrittore riuscì a vedere poco prima di morire.“Scrittura e fotografia non si escludono. Io nasco fotografo e mi sento fotografo, però ho fatto il giornalista per venticinque anni, scrivendo anche. Mi ricordo che Sciascia, mettendomi in guardia, mi disse ‘stai attento che te ne può venire una schizofrenia'. Ma io questa cosa l'ho sempre esorcizzata considerandomi un fotografo che scrive”.Per Ferdinando Scianna, il libro è da sempre la forma prediletta di comunicazione. Da una parte la presenza di testi di grandi scrittori all'interno dei suoi libri fotografici, dall'altra la pubblicazione di riflessioni sulla fotografia e sui fotografi (come “Etica e fotogiornalismo”, “Obiettivo ambiguo” e “Il viaggio di Veronica”).Col passare del tempo, la necessità del fotografo siciliano di affiancare alle immagini i propri testi si è fatta sempre più urgente e “Quelli di Bagheria” (2002) segna un passo ulteriore nella ricerca di un rapporto di reciproca integrazione anche grafica fra parola e immagine, raggiunta grazie alla collaborazione con l'art director Alberto Bianda.Con oltre 200 fotografie in bianco e nero stampate in diversi formati, la rassegna attraversa l'intera carriera del grande fotografo siciliano e si sviluppa lungo un articolato percorso narrativo, costruito su diversi capitoli e varie modalità di allestimento.Ferdinando Scianna è uno dei maestri della fotografia non solo italiana. Må vi mene det vi sier? I hvilken grad sier vi det vi mener, og hvor gode sjanser gir vi egentlig oss selv og andre til å tenke høyt sammen? Om vår fornuft er sosial så er det nettopp i felleskap at vi tenker best, og dette faktum burde egentlig ha langt større effekt på måten vi snakker sammen enn det det har idag.  Målet her er ikke å komme med noen filsofisk argumentasjon, og episoden er forhåpentligvis heller ikke spesielt tung og abstrakt. Det grunnleggende spørsmålet er ganske enkelt hvordan vi forholder oss til hverandre når vi snakker og skriver sammen.  Et annet spørsmål som blir veldig viktig i denne sammenhengen er hvordan vi har endt opp med å skape en kultur hvor man forsøker å skjule det om det er noe man ikke vet i stedet for å spørre. I hvilken grad er det skolen som er delvis ansvarlig for at vi mennesker nesten alltid foretrekker å late som at vi vet snarere enn å innrømme dette? Og når blir denne uvanen nærmest et demokratisk problem?  Dette er noe av det vi tar for oss i denne sommerepisoden av Lars og Pål, som spilt inn på en veranda i en by ved sjøen her i landet, derav måkeskrikene.  Takk for at du hører på! Det vil sikkert dukke opp en episode eller to av podkasten i løpet av sommermånedene, forhåpentligvis, men det er foreløpig litt uklart når det blir. The Hermetic Hour for Thursday with host Poke Runyon, will feature a discussion on the mystical science fiction of Philip K. Dick. For those unfamiliar with his writings this will hopefully serve to introduce you to a writer now considered to be in a class with Jorge Louis Borges, Kurt Vonnegut and, in my opinion, James Joyce. Several of Dick's novels have been made into films, such as "Blade Runner", "Minority Report", "Total Recall" and "The Adjustment Bureau." He transcended the 1960s' drug culture with concepts and themes that went deeper and more universal than the temporary insights of flower-power. The Hermetic Hour for Thursday, January 26th, 2012 with host Poke Runyon, will feature a discussion on the mystical science fiction of Philip K. Dick. For those unfamiliar with his writings this will hopefully serve to introduce you to a writer now considered to be in a class with Jorge Louis Borges, Kurt Vonnegut and, in my opinion, James Joyce. Several of Dick's novels have been made into films, such as "Blade Runner", "Minority Report", "Total Recall" and "The Adjustment Bureau." He transcended the 1960s' drug culture with concepts and themes that went deeper and more universal than the temporary insights of flower-power. Kvadet ”Hovudlausn” er et vindu inn i en hedensk tankegang og sjeleliv, en verden så fremmed for oss at selv ikke Snorre kunne ha skrevet det, sier sogneprest Geir Waage i Reykholt kirke. Waage deklamerer og tolker flere strofer på islandsk fra Egil Skallagrimssons berømte dikt til Eirik Blodøks i York. – Dette er sagalitteraturens mest formfullendte dikt. Jeg kan nesten forstå at Egil ble benådet fra sin dødsdom som takk for diktet, sier professor Jon Gunnar Jørgensen. På gården Borg møter vi en annen av Islands berømte prester, sogneprest Torbjørn Arnason. Han gir sin tolkning av det andre store diktet i Egils saga, ”Sonatorrek”, som Egil ifølge sagaen skrev mens han hadde bestemt seg for å dø, innelåst i sovekammeret sitt på Borg. – I de første linjene er han så preget av sønnetapet og trangen til å dø at han nesten ikke kan bevege tungen, men han dikter seg likevel tilbake til livet og avslutter med at ”Hel får ennå vente”. – Det hender jeg bruker dette diktet i mine prekner, sier Arnasson, som også forteller om kvelden for mange år siden da forfatteren Jorge Louis Borges banket på døra. – Borges var blind og gammel, men ville gå rundt her og føle stedet der Egil hadde diktet, sier Arnasson. Professor Jon Gunnar Jørgensen forteller om både ytre og indre dramatikk i Egils saga. – Det blir verdenslitteratur av de store indre spenningene i Egil, sier Jørgensen. – Det er den motbydelige og usympatiske vikingen som i sitt diktergeni også rommer en poetisk og var side uten sidestykke. Can our moral progress keep up with our material progress, be sober in a technologically inebriated world, be in any way more than a fig leaf covering the untameable old Adam whose tragedy - more Greek than Christian - has made and marred this century? Is there such a thing at all as moral progress, or have Darwin and Freud between them cut it out of the conceit of homo sapiens?
