The statement referred to Qin's meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Foreign Ministers' meeting in Goa, India. *) Ten killed, 15 injured in Serbia shooting: state media A gunman killed at least 10 people and injured 15 near the Serbian capital Belgrade, in the second mass shooting in the Balkan nation this week. Police arrested the suspected gunman responsible for the killing, state media reported, following an hours-long manhunt throughout the night. The back-to-back mass shootings have left the country in a state of shock, with thousands flocking to makeshift memorial sites while others have queued to donate blood. *) Israeli forces kill Palestinian woman near Nablus The Israeli army killed a Palestinian woman in a northern town of the occupied West Bank for allegedly carrying out a stabbing attack. The Palestinian Health Ministry identified the woman as Iman Odeh and said she was killed by "a bullet to the chest fired by the occupation soldiers in Huwara. Eyewitnesses said that an Israeli force shot the 26-year-old woman dead and prevented Palestinians from reaching her. *) Western media's anti-Türkiye and Erdogan hostility is regrettable: Altun Turkish Communications Director Fahrettin Altun has slammed the cover of The Economist, a weekly British magazine, depicting hostility against Türkiye and its President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Altun regretted the anti-Türkiye and Erdogan hostility of the Western media before the May 14 elections. He said, "As our country gets rid of the shackles, we observe that the violence of Western-centred attacks increases, ignoring the principle of impartiality,” *) Coffee fair kicks off in Istanbul The fifth edition of the Istanbul Coffee Fair kicked off as coffee lovers and industry professionals flocked to the Halic Congress Center in the Turkish metropolis to taste a variety of coffees from different roasters. Fair Coordinator Reha Kadak said that they brought together important national and international brands of the industry at the fair. Kadak noted that nearly 20 thousand participants come to the fair every year.

Indian popular cinema known as Bollywood has always been a dominant symbol of the nation. It constructs and legitimizes ideas of traditions, cultures and ethos, and most importantly, solidifies who gets to be Indian and who does not. In this episode, Amrita Ghosh welcomes Hussain Haidry and Alka Kurian to her mehfil to talk about a different India, one that we see represented in small, alternative and subversive cinema, and one that demands that we dismantle the politics of inclusion and exclusion that dominates Bollywood blockbusters today. Hussain Haidry, a screenwriter and film scholar Alka Kurian talk about our current moment as Bollywood and Indian cultural productions are having a huge resurgence in the West and what it means for Indian entertainment, hegemonic politics within India, and in the diaspora. The discussion focuses on the popularity of films like RRR and Pathaan, two huge blockbusters, as well as questions of spectatorship and the timing of such films in our post-pandemic landscape. Both introduce us to exciting new films that might be under the radar but are edgier in content, have very different kinds of protagonists, and showcase stories that depart from the usual style and content of populist films. These include fits such as Kayo Kayo Colour by Shahrukhkhan Chavada, Sir by Rohena Gera, Fandry by Nagraj Manjule and women-centric films by Alankrita Shrivastava. This is an in-depth conversation about the politics of marginalization in Bollywood today as well as the growing risks involved in filmmaking in India.Hussain Haidry is a poet, lyricist, and screenwriter. He worked as a Head of Finance in a healthcare company in Kolkata, and moved to Mumbai to become a full-time writer. He started his career by performing spoken word poetry, and has written lyrics for the films Qarib Qarib Single, Mukkabaaz, Taish, Kadak, Sherni, Dobaara; and web series like Yeh Meri Family, and Tripling. As a screenwriter, he has co-written the Amazon web series, Laakhon Mein Ek (Season Two), and a short film on Netflix, titled Madhyaantar in the anthology series Ankahi Kahaaniyaan. Originally from Indore, he was catapulted to fame with his poem “Hindustani Musalmaan” (Indian Muslim) that went viral on the Internet. Alka Kurian is an Associate Teaching Professor at the University of Washington Bothell, where she teaches gender studies, literature, film and human rights. She is the author of Narratives of Gendered Dissent in South Asian Cinemas and a co-editor of New Feminisms in South Asia: Disrupting the Discourse Through Social Media, Film and Literature. She is a recipient of the 2020-2021 Fulbright US Scholar award to Morocco for research on fourth wave feminism. She hosts the South Asian Films And Books podcast. Amrita Ghosh is Assistant Professor of English, specializing in South Asian literature at the University of Central Florida. She is the co-editor of Tagore and Yeats: A Postcolonial Reenvisioning (Brill 2022) and Subaltern Vision: A Study in Postcolonial Indian English Text (Cambridge Scholars 2012). Her book Kashmir's Necropolis: New Literature and Visual Texts is forthcoming with Lexington Books. Children's clothing label Bebe Organic was founded in 2014 by Birgit Kadak, a graduate of the London College of Fashion. Kadak spent her early years in the fashion industry working in luxury womenswear but after her first child was diagnosed with a sensitive skin condition, she began to research the best natural and organic fabrics for her son. Piaget'in Bilişsel Gelişim Kuramı'na Giriş Piaget'e göre dünyanın bilişsel olarak yapılandırılmasında şu süreçler öne çıkmaktadır: şemalar, özümleme, uyma (akodomasyon) ve dengelenme. Şema kavramı ilk defa Piaget tarafından kullanılmıştır. Şema, bireyin çevresindeki dünyayı anlamak ve anlamlandırmak için geliştirdiği bir bilişsel yapı, yeni edinilen bilgilerin yerleşeceği bir çerçevedir. İnsan dünyaya çok basit düzeyde şemalarla gelir. İlk şemalar bebekken sahip olduğumuz basit reflekslerdir. Deneyim ve yaşantılar sonucu bu şemalar gelişir ve yeni şemalar oluşturulur (Özdemir, Özdemir, Kadak ve Nasıroğlu, 2012). Özümleme, karşılaşılan yeni bir durumun daha önceki şemalarla açıklanmaya çalışılması; uyma ise yeni bilgiye göre var olan şemaların değiştirilmesi ya da genişletilmesi durumudur (Mert, 2007; Özdemir ve diğerleri, 2012). Örneğin, ilk defa küçük bir koyun gören çocuk ona “köpek” diyebilir. Bu durum çocuğun yeni olan koyun şemasını daha önce var olan köpek şemasının içine yerleştirmesini, yani özümlemeyi ifade eder. Koyunlarla etkileşime geçip, defalarca onlarla karşılaştığında köpekler ve koyunlar arasındaki farkları ayırt edebilir, yeni bir şema oluşturarak koyunları bunun içine yerleştirir. Bu durum da uyuma örnektir (Özdemir ve diğerleri, 2012). Dengelenme ise özümleme ve uyum arasında dengeli bir düzenlemenin olmasıdır. Yeni bilgilerle karşılaşıldığında birey ilk olarak özümlemeye başvurur, ancak bu şekilde yaptığı değerlendirme eksik kalacağı için bilişsel denge bozulur ve bunun sonunda birey dengeyi tekrar uyma yoluyla kurar. Öğrenme yeni dengelemelerin sonucunda gerçekleşir (Mert, 2007).

The head of the World Health Organisation on Wednesday lamented the U.S. decision to halt funding for the U.N. agency, promising a review of its decisions while sidestepping President Donald Trump’s complaints about its alleged mismanagement, cover-up and missteps.WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was on the defensive after Trump announced a halt to U.S. funding that has totaled nearly a half-billion dollars annually in recent years. Trump claimed the WHO had parroted Chinese assurances about how the virus is spread, failed to obtain virus samples from China, and made a “disastrous decision” to oppose travel restrictions as the outbreak spread.Countries and health experts around the world expressed alarm at Trump’s move and warned it could jeopardize efforts to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Philanthropists like Bill Gates and Michael Bloomberg joined European and African leaders and health experts who lined up behind the WHO or insisted the U.S. shouldn't cut off funding at such a critical time.While Trump pointed to a U.S. investigation of the U.N. agency, Tedros stopped short of addressing his complaints directly and said the WHO’s performance in handling the outbreak would be reviewed as part of a “usual process” to ensure transparency and accountability.“We regret the decision of the president of the United States to order a halt in funding to the World Health Organization,” Tedros said. “WHO is reviewing the impact on our work of any withdrawal of U.S. funding and will work with our partners to fill any financial gaps we face.”“No doubt, areas for improvement will be identified and there will be lessons for all of us to learn,” he added. “But for now, our focus – my focus – is on stopping this virus and saving lives.”The exact fallout from a halt in U.S. funding was far from clear.The WHO runs on biennial budgets, and U.S. funding comes in two main forms — about three-fourths of it through “voluntary” contributions and one-fourth through “assessed” contributions, which are a bit like regular dues. The U.S. already contributed at least $15 million to a $675 million emergency fund set up by the WHO to help pay for the initial coronavirus response through April.“Trump has a mercurial reputation. So he sort of promises death and destruction and then it doesn’t necessarily happen,” said Gian Luca Burci, a former legal counsel for WHO who now teaches at Geneva’s Graduate Institute. “I think it will become more clear in the next few weeks.”He noted WHO's tricky task of uniting opposing constituencies: China and the U.S. have been at odds on a number of issues.“Maybe Tedros went too far," he said. "But you can see also some of the reasons why he wanted to secure China’s cooperation.”Trump has repeatedly labelled COVID-19 the “Chinese virus” and criticized the agency for being too lenient on China, where the novel coronavirus first emerged late last year.Outside experts have questioned China’s reported infections and deaths from the virus, calling them way too low and unreliable. An investigation by The Associated Press has found that a six-day delay between when Chinese officials learnt about the virus and when they warned the public allowed the outbreak to blossom into an enormous public health disaster.The WHO has been particularly effusive in its praise for China, calling on other countries to emulate its approach and repeatedly praising its transparency.Tedros has also heaped compliments on Trump, praising his “great job” in responding to the outbreak last month.The European Union on Wednesday said Trump has “no reason” to freeze WHO funding at this critical stage and called for measures to promote unity instead of division.In Beijing, Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said the country is “seriously concerned” about the U.S. decision.A spokesman for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who this week emerged from intensive care after contracting the virus, declined to crit...

Today I have Pavithra Dikshit with us on Audiogyan. She is a typographer, Graphic designer and presently working in Landor, Mumbai. And this is the way she positions herself online, I’m 1/3rd of Postcard People which is an avenue to revive sending out postcards. And I’m 1/8th of Kadak which is a collective of South Asian women who work with graphic storytelling of different kinds. Today we are here to talk about graphic design with Pavithra. Questions 1. You say your exploration in design is within Indian context. What do you mean by that? What is Indianness when it comes to graphic design? 2. How big and wide is the canvas with respect to Indian Graphic Design? 3. Can graphic design be tactile in nature? What is the role of paper when it comes to graphic design? How critical is that element? Since I am always exposed to digital graphic design? 4. In some of your articles online, you have mentioned about you being super disciplined and lover of side projects. What can be different ways for a graphic designer to explore side projects? 5. So there is a connection between your work, life and work-life? How does your day job work in this sense? 6. How do you choose what you should work on? Especially with side projects. Everybody has so many ideas? You seem to have built a few composite projects, why is that? Is that a style? 7. A lot of your recent work involves words and typography. Could you talk about it? Also you’re reading and sharing a lot more of the books. Have you always been a reader? Is that important for a graphic designer in today’s world?

Today I have Aarthi Parthasarathy with us on Audiogyan, who is an Indian filmmaker and a webcomic creator. Having grown up in Mumbai and now living in Bengaluru, Aarthi is known for creating the webcomic like Royal Existentials and writing for the webcomic Urbanlore. Aarthi became part of feminist art collective called Kadak in March 2016, where she has collaborated to create Personal (Cyber) Space, Aloe Vera and The Void.  1. Can you tell us a brief history of women in comics around the world, how it has evolved till current time in India? 2. You are a film maker. How did you get into comics? Do you see any common thread in these art forms? 3. What makes you believe that comics or webcomics are means to make your voice heard? Create awareness in the society? 4. You have a different style of comics where you pick vintage art predominantly. What makes you do that? What is your source of inspiration? 5. How is the balance of content and illustration styles defined in any comic? Can you elaborate any particular case study (either yours) if the webcomic reached to masses because of either of things being good?
