Karen Clarke is the SVP and Managing Director for the Americas at Anaplan. In the current market, sales leaders face many challenges including a slowdown in the economy, difficulty finding staff, and sales attrition. Leaders must use data that provides insights into shifting buying behaviors. Karen discusses the main things sales leaders should focus on for profitable growth like ensuring the alignment of sellers to the business objectives, knowing how to balance sales resources across the business, and the increasingly critical role of sales enablement and execution as the market gets tougher. Andy and Karen then dig into key concerns like attrition and capacity issues and how to deploy talent in the most effective way across territories. When planning for the next fiscal year, sales leaders should think carefully about how to segment their territories and target their reps in the most promising markets. HIGHLIGHT QUOTES CROs must get data on where sellers sell best - Karen: "Combining that with data in terms of where your market is and really having a good view of matching the right reps to the right opportunities. And obviously, aligning the quota to the size of those opportunities. So really thinking about what the addressable market is today for those sellers and doing that very intelligently." Sellers that can help buyers achieve real business value are prized - Karen: "Customers don't want sellers that just turn up and respond to what they're asking for. I think they're looking for sellers that bring something, organizations that bring something that share what they're seeing in other organizations, that challenge their thinking, maybe stretch their thinking a little bit in terms of what they could achieve." With special guest: Karen Clarke…in conversation with Bill Kable Have you been bullied? Has anyone in your family been bullied? In her book From Bullied to Brilliant: How to artfully avoid fitting in, our guest sets out how to understand and deal with bullies. In the program today we get to hear directly from Karen Clarke how to bounce back and turn pain into gain when confronted by bullies. We learn that bullying can be experienced by anyone at any stage in life and it is nothing to be ashamed of if you are the victim. It is one of the myths of bullying that the victim has shown some weakness that the bully seizes on but in fact bullies are often attracted to people who possess the very qualities they secretly or unknowingly admire. In today's episode, I have a special guest with me! Someone who I am so honoured to introduce to you and has played a huge role in where I am today because of her prayers - my mom, Karen Clarke. I asked my mom to come on and speak on this episode because I have seen how her commitment to prayer has changed her life and the life of those around her. She is a great example of someone who believes in the power of prayer and models a life that lives by that belief. This is such a great way to end this series on Endurance. What better way to build our leadership endurance than through prayer and communion with God. POEMS MENTIONED: "I became impatient when God's answer to my prayer was "Wait!" But He helped me plant and harvest other crops as seasons came and passed, and each left rich deposits in the soil of my life. God's time evolved at last, and the gift I asked for long ago was granted. It flourished now in soil enriched and mellowed through the years. Then I understood why God had answered, Wait." "I knelt to pray; head bowed, eyes closed, hands folded, knees bent. But prayer did not come. My proud and independent heart, defying man's humility and need, stood still unbowed in the presence of God. And I could not pray until my heart knelt too." - Excerpt from the book "My Heart Kneels Too" by Carolyn Rhea

How to identify People's EQs to Bring out their Best: In this episode, Karen Clarke unpacks a simple system of understanding people. This is often easy to read just in their behavior and measures EQ. There are four groups of people and each will have strengths and weaknesses depending on their levels of stress. It's imperative to be able to read where people are at so that you can bring out the best in them and in yourself. The applications for this are huge in the workplace e.g. getting more out of your people, making that elusive sale or helping yourself to be in the right space most of the time and deliver more with less effort.
