The boys discuss back to school.
Tom King returns to the Cryptid Creator Corner and brings Archie Comics artist and all-around swell guy Dan Parent with him to discuss Archie: The Decision. It's the question that's been on Archie fans' minds for decades, will Archie pick Betty or Veronica? Tom and Dan have created a love letter to Archie Comics in both form and substance. They discuss how this issue came about, how it's okay to approach an editor when holding an Eisner award, and what makes a really good Archie story. I also appreciated that the back of the issue includes Tom's and Dan's picks of their top ten Archie stories with only 1 story in common. This was a fantastic conversation and you'll be ready to read more Archie as soon as you're through listening. You can get the issue here: (https://store.archiecomics.com/products/archie-the-decision-one-shot-1?srsltid=AfmBOorlnGgEalLBjxNveND_23yDKXEoASbkHqPSn96Krh6WAUjMdDny) Check out Dan's website here: https://danparent.com/ Follow Tom on Twitter here: https://x.com/TomKingTK Here's what Archie Comics had to say about the issue: Archie. Finally. Decides. At long last, the answer to the question generations of fans have asked will be answered. Who will Archie choose? Betty or Veronica? Written by Eisner Award-winning comics scribe TOM KING and illustrated by Archie legend and fan-favorite artist DAN PARENT, this is the tale only they can tell. Everyone in Riverdale is waiting for his choice, and all your favorites, from Josie & The Pussycats to Sabrina the Teenage Witch (and even Hot Dog!), are joining in the fun. No matter who you want him to choose, you DEFINITELY don't want to miss this ALL-NEW, FULL-LENGTH story! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
In our first episode of God's Big Story — Parent Talk, Julie and Matt wrap up our mini-season with a focus on family discipleship. They share practical strategies for integrating faith-building activities into daily family life, emphasizing the importance of scheduled time, natural moments, and celebratory milestones. Drawing inspiration from Deuteronomy 6:4-9, they provide a clear framework for parents to teach their children about God's love and faithfulness. Time refers to scheduled family activities centered around faith, such as reading scripture, singing worship songs, and prayer. Moments involve seizing everyday opportunities to discuss faith naturally, such as observing nature or answering children's spiritual questions. Milestones are special celebrations that mark significant events, offering chances to reflect on God's goodness. Through personal stories and practical tips, this episode equips parents to weave faith into their family routines effectively. Key Takeaways: Time: Scheduling dedicated family time for spiritual activities like reading the Bible, singing, and praying together. Moments: Using everyday experiences to spark gospel conversations with children. Milestones: Celebrating significant family events to reflect on God's faithfulness and create lasting spiritual memories. Flexibility: Encouragement for parents to remain adaptable and patient in their discipleship efforts. Community: Highlighting the importance of involving church resources and community support in family discipleship. Follow Matt and Julie on Instagram and check out Resources from The Village Church. Send us a Text Message.Step into the shadows with us, where the lines between right and wrong blur in the harsh glare of reality. Miss Reality and Rhetorik strip bare the controversies and ethical entanglements of today's society, from the violent brick attack mirroring TV drama to the silent struggles within the private adoption world. We're slicing through the pristine surface to expose a raw underbelly where fame, politics, and the rap game intertwine with personal convictions and public opinion. Every story, a pulsing vein in the heart of our collective experience.Unmask the influencers Conscious Lee and Xtina Brown wielding feminism as a selective sword, cutting down what doesn't serve their narrative. We're not just calling them out; we're peeling back layers to reveal the impact of inauthentic advocacy. Moving from virtual spaces to political ties, we scrutinize the optics of fame's dance with power, weighing the authenticity of public figures' political engagements. The conversation takes an unexpected nostalgic detour, savoring the taste of JFK fried chicken, a simple pleasure with complex reflections on our current administration's choices.Join us in a heart-to-heart, as 21 Savage's candid thoughts on parental presence versus wealth resonate with our own reflections on what it means to grow up loved but not lavished. Miss Reality and Rhetorik don't just recount tales; we thread our personal narratives into the fabric of the discussion, from our childhoods to the influence of our parents. It's not just about the stories we tell; it's about the life-affirming lessons we learn along the way. Tune in for a podcast episode that's not an escape but an immersion into the reality that shapes us all.

If you recently found out that your child has autism or adhd this episode will encourage you. It is unlike the other episodes in that it is a real-time processing session as I unpacked all the feelings and thoughts that came up after learning that my daughter has autism. I recorded this 4 hours after getting our diagnosis. I share not as an expert, but as a mom that is it it with you. In the first half, I share our story and process with you all my raw thoughts and feels. In the second half, I encoruage you and speak life over you and your child in this season. If you think your child has autism or another diagnosis or just have received a diagnosis I pray that you will feel seen as you listen to this. Seen by me, but more importantly seen by God. Pullups are not recommended, as they are essentially just diapers without tabsLogical consequences reinforce potty training, such as having the child clean up their mess[25:53- 39:43] Toddlers and Tantrums: Understanding the Big Bang of ConsciousnessThe big bang of consciousness occurs between 15-18 months of age when children begin to develop a sense of self-awareness.Prior to this development, infants have no sense of self and react only to their immediate surroundings. The sudden realization of self often leads to toddlers asserting their independence and saying "no" more frequently.Tantrums can be a common response to frustration as toddlers learn to navigate their new sense of self and assert their desiresParents should focus on providing a safe environment and positive reinforcement rather than punishing or shaming their child during a tantrum[39:44 - 52:07] Strategies for Helping Children with Autism and Preschool Biting Behaviors Occupational therapy and sensory-based strategies can help address behavior issues in preschoolersEarly intervention for children with autism spectrum disorders is crucialBiting is a typical behavior among preschoolers, often triggered by inner turmoil rather than an intent to hurt othersEnvironment and class size can influence behaviors; lowering class size and having extra teachers can help address biting incidentsUnderstanding the root cause of constant biting can help address the behavior. Why transitioning from one activity to another can be such a struggle? Understanding difficulty in transitions - Why is it so painful? Dealing with change is often difficult for children, from leaving the playground for the day or switching from art to math in school. Being asked to change activities or locations is often a trigger for behavior like whining, complaining, or throwing tantrums. Kids may not be able to handle the big emotions that can come with transitions. They might learn that by stalling, they get to avoid the change for a bit longer. In this episode, Mathieu Lyons from the Neufeld institute explains to us what's happening in our child's brain and what we need to do to connect one activity to the next. Pillow Talk Prescriptions® help parents affirm, nurture and guide their children by sharing important information while the children are asleep. For me, the technique was as effective, or more effective, than daytime conversation because my child was not distracted. Pillow Talks can prepare children to face and overcome life's challenges, such as fear of bugs, taking an important exam, or making healthy food choices. You can learn more about Pillow Talk here. Born without the ball of one hip, Nancy endured many medical procedures at a young age, vowing to be healed and help others heal. In 2009, at age 44, she placed first in a women's NASTAR ski competition, getting the gold medal. No one likes being told what to do… but kids who are stubborn can find it downright unbearable, as they hold values like responsibility, autonomy, and freedom at the highest level of their scale of values. “Strong-willed” children are not just “difficult”: it is important to understand that from their point of view, they feel that their integrity is compromised if they are forced to submit to the will of another person. On the contrary, if they are allowed to choose, they will love to cooperate with you! This week at Parent Talk podcast we are talking with Sonja Latifpour from Bright Star Counselling about how to manage stubborn in children with Sonja Latipour. By listening to this episode you will learn many good tips on how to deal with your child's stubborn behaviour and how to talk to your stubborn child to get their buy-in. Happy Listening! We all know that setting and achieving goals is a life skill necessary for success and happiness, but it's one that even adults REALLY struggle with. Studies show that only about 8% of people achieve their New Year's resolutions! How can we teach children to set realistic goals — and actually achieve them? Research shows that children learn best when they're playing and enjoying themselves at the same time. Fun experiences increase levels of endorphins, dopamine, and oxygen, all of which promote learning. One problem when kids make goals is that while some children know how to set a goal, they don't understand how to achieve it. They seem to think that just wanting something will somehow make it happen. This can be especially true for gifted children, for whom everything comes easily. This leads to them being discouraged, give up, and deterring future successes. By helping your child achieve their goals you will also help them believe in themselves, build self confidence and build independence. Don't miss this week podcast with Ginny Chui. She will be giving you great tips on how to guide your child set his own goals and achieve them. Happy listening! Genevieve, Becca & Ginny Want more? As the war in Ukraine unfolds in front of our eyes, we can't forget that our kids are watching too... They're hearing things at school, listening to the news on TV at home, and seeing images on their social media feeds. How can parents talk to kids about what's happening in an age-appropriate way? To help us navigate this new situation with our child we have asked Laura Linn these questions: Would you talk about war with your pre-schooler? Or would they be too young? Should they be shielded from this? What do you say at different age levels? How do you start the conversation? Should you ask what they know? How do they feel about it? What if they are scared war will come to America? How can you address their fears? How can you make them feel safe and secure? If they ask questions you don't know the answers to, how do you respond? How can you help your children make sense of war if you can't wrap your own mind around it? By listening to this episode you will feel more confident and have better skills on how to approach this new reality with your child. Also, you will learn how to answer your child's questions in an age-appropriate way. If you have any unanswered questions, don't hesitate to contact us! Who would have thought I needed a sleep coach with no longer having babies and toddlers? Well, with the move and Leilani having worry/concern for me leading up to my surgery, we started a habit of bed sharing, which first started in hotel stays. This is when I reached out to none other than Whitney Weber, a certified sleep coach, for help in getting Leilani back into her own bed. It seems that no matter where you go you find people talking politics. Even on this podcast we find ourselves referencing them during our conversations. Today we have decided to get it all out. We believe as parents it is our job to raise our children the best we know how, and when questions arise try and tell them our point of view without putting others down. We cover how we approach the topic of the President and others in office. Wether you like Trump, Biden, or even some else running we all need to be able to talk to one another. The only way we can strive as a country is to converse about these hard topics. Corey and i don't hold back in this open conversation about our political views and how they play a role in our families. We hope you enjoy the episode and don't forget to refer a friend and leave your rating and review. That is the best support we can get to help this podcast grow and reach more people that may need to hear it.
