Passage: 1 The Lord is my light and my salvation;   whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life;   of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When evildoers assail me   to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes,   it is they who stumble and fall. 3 Though an army encamp against me,   my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me,   yet I will be confident. 4 One thing have I asked of the Lord,   that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord   all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord   and to inquire in his temple. 5 For he will hide me in his shelter   in the day of trouble; he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;   he will lift me high upon a rock. (Psalm 27:1–5) Song: Psalm 27 (The Lord is My Light) by Jordan Kauflin, Laura Story, Matthew Merker Lyrics: The Lord is my light and my salvation Whom shall I fear whom shall I fear The Lord is the stronghold of my life Of whom shall I be afraid Lord You are my shelter God of my salvation I am not forsaken Lord my shield and protector Waiting on Your promise I will see Your goodness O Lord When troubles arise no foe can harm me You are my peace You are my peace You lift me above the raging storm You conquer my enemies One thing I have asked to see Your beauty This I will seek this I will seek To dwell in Your house to walk in Your ways Your presence is all I need I wait wait for the Lord In faith trusting Your word I wait wait for the Lord In faith trusting Your word Prayer: “Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of our fathers, creator of the changes of day and night, giving rest to the weary, renewing the strength of those who are spent, bestowing upon us occasions of song in the evening. As you have protected us in the day that is past, so be with us in the coming night. Keep us from every sin, every evil, and every fear; for you are our light and salvation, and the strength of our life. To you be glory for endless ages. Are you an introvert or an extrovert? What do you do to unwind? What's your favorite smell or sound?  These are just a few of the questions we were asked as we sat around the bistro table in Plant City, Florida at a Fresh Grounded Faith event. Author and podcaster Annie F. Downs and singer-songwriter Laura Story were with me, and these women gave so much insight and inspiration when we spilled the beans. We talked about the importance of hanging out with a small group, how I preserve memories when I can't see pictures, and if you have to be an extrovert to go into ministry. Plus, we were asked about how to deal with disappointment when a deep longing remains unfulfilled, as well as how to show yourself grace when you feel like a failure. This conversation was deep and wise, encouraging and fun, and it would be even better if you joined us. So pull up your chair at the bistro, and let's spill some beans. Americans Are Hungry For God’s Word! How do we know? The research tells us so. Dr. John Plake is a researcher with a pastor’s heart. As the Chief Program Officer at American Bible Society he joins us to share data from first chapter of their 14th Annual State of the Bible report. He shares that Americans are interested in what the Bible has to say, especially our young adults. Dr. Plake says, “Last year, 50% of Gen Z adults (ages 18-27) agreed that the message of the Bible has transformed their lives. This year, that number rose to 54%. If this trend continues, we have good reason for hope.” Then, when you share your faith it’s OK to say, “You know what, I don’t have the answer to that. But I’ll find out and get back with you!” Perry had to do this the other day in a conversation with his Muslim friend and it was so humbling cause he wanted to have an answer! “What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near?”– Laura Story. Pain takes us deep into relationship with God. And Perry and Shawna talk about how they wrestle to surrender to the way of the cross. Last, serving, at times, can feel like a box we need to check off our Christian to-do list. But that’s not how Jesus approached it. Serving wasn’t something he did, it’s who He is. What would it take for you and me to love and serve others like Jesus?Support the show: https://give.moodyradio.org/fall-share?v=def&appeal=MRWM&_gl=1%2a142i9we%2a_ga%2aNTE4MTE5MmUtY2U1Yy00YmQ3LWU4MmUtNjEwYTQ5YzAyODRj%2a_ga_4WH1937046%2aMTY5NTExODEwMS4yOTkuMC4xNjk1MTE4MTAxLjYwLjAuMA..&_ga=2.197426156.215784306.1695059984-1182841406.166859587See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Today's big idea is Paul's claim in Romans 5 that we have “peace with God.” This is by grace, through faith, apart from works of the law. By grace we have peace with God, forgiveness of sins, and courage for life. Let's read Romans 5:1-8 and dive in.Romans 5:1-8Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.6 You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. 8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.The word of God. Amen. Sisters and brothers in Christ, grace to you and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. Here is that song, "Blessings" by Laura Story.Support the show

We humans are, by design, creators. We build. We write. We cook. We adapt. We learn. Hardship tends to bring out the best in our creative abilities. The first book of the Hebrew Bible describes in poetic brilliance the story of God creating order out of supreme chaos, bringing light out of darkness, and life from lifeless spaces. We praise our Creator in no greater way than when we take what is before us in our skills, our desires, and our time to create beautiful things where there was nothing. Today's guests found that difficult times and their unique life stages gave fertile soil for their creative ideas. The husband and wife team of David and Tamela Mann turned to their music and comedy sketches to bring joy and hope; Laura Story turned to writing and penned a book about courage not being the absence of fear but the strength to take another step.   Links, Products, and Resources Mentioned: Jesus Calling Podcast Jesus Calling Jesus Always Jesus Listens Past interview: Alex Seeley Upcoming interview: Kristin Smedley   David and Tamela Mann Willie Stewart James Moore Mattie Moss Clark Twinkie Clark Overcomer “Help”  Tyler Perry show Assisted Living on BET   Laura Story “Blessings” Casting Crowns www.laurastorymusic.com So Long, Normal: Living and Loving the Free Fall of Faith   Interview Quotes: “I thank God for Him living in me and giving me the opportunity to represent Him, and my thing is always to represent Him well.” - Tamela Mann “I try to use my platform to bring more light to [God]." - David Mann “A lot of us need help, but we're afraid to ask for help, and we all need a touch from the Lord.” - Tamela Mann “I'm just praying that we can all just unify somehow, see each other as people and not skin color and not political affiliation.” - David Mann “Don't seek to be famous. Having a husband who developed a severe disability led Laura Story to say, "Farewell, predictable." The unexpected trial was a free fall into faith. Because Laura trusted in the Lord, she did not fear the unknown. On today's edition of Family Talk, the Christian singer/songwriter shares that she identifies with many biblical characters who experienced a disruption in their lives. Similar to the Proverbs 31 woman, Laura has learned to laugh at the days to come, recognizing that we are indeed created by God to do good works.

**If you enjoyed this episode, please write a quick review or rating on your podcast platform so that it will be easier for other listeners to find.  Thanks so much!Join us today in a great conversation with singer/songwriter Laura Story as she shares her life stories and her perspective on God and faith.  Laura is absolutely delightful, relatable, and completely open as she teaches us what she's learned through her life journey.  Laura's new book "So Long Normal" is a must read--I've read it twice.  To quote Laura:“I gave up my pursuit of normal a long time ago, " writes worship leader and Christian recording artist Laura Story in her new book, "So Long, Normal: Living and Loving the Free Fall of Faith."  Laura continues, "Surprisingly, I can say this with out shame or regret." Not only was she terrible at trying to be normal, she convesses, but somewhere along the way she realized that "normal" was a vapor: "Whenever it appeared within reach, I was unable to grasp it." Laura is a wife, mother of four kids, a worship leader, an author of four books and an award-winning singer/songwriter. She's also an extremely humble person in spite of her amazing success.   She won a grammy for her song “Blessings”, her “Blessings” album hit the top of the Christian charts, and she continues to produce great music and write great books.  Be sure to check out her new song, “Hello Unknown”--it's fantastic.  Today she talks about her new book, “So Long Normal” as well as the challenges she's faced and how God has worked in her life through those experiences.Learn more about Laura, find her books, her Bible studies and her music at her website,  LauraStoryMusic.  You can also find her  on Instagram , YouTube and  Facebook.

It's always tempting to try to live up to the expectations other people have of us. Even if our past is marked by success, it's burdensome to try to keep that up. Normally, most of us keep at it- we keep striving the fulfill the expectations we think people have of who we are and what we do. It can feel overwhelming or frightening to imagine dealing with their disappointment with us. Fortunately, we don't have to get stuck in normal- we are new creations every day. This week on the podcast we dig into that conversation with my friend, Laura Story. About Laura and her Latest Book In the shifting (or even collapsing) of everything familiar in life, you don't have to wring your hands in fear. Push past the loss of your “normal” with bestselling author and Bible teacher Laura Story, and step into the new story God is writing for you. You've been faced with circumstances beyond your control. Your plans are altered. But you have the blessing of a Father who loves you enough to take off the training wheels and place his beloved child in the best possible scenario for your good and growth. So Long, Normal guides you to leave behind the idols of comfort, caution, and routine so you can live strong and well, even when life takes an unwelcome turn. In her confessional, conversational style, worship leader, Bible teacher, and Christian recording artist Laura Story weaves her own personal stories with examples from Scripture of characters whose lives were upended by unexpected (and undesired) change. Like they're missing out on a different life, a life that others seem to experience. That it should've all just worked out by now, but it hasn't. Frankly, like they're languishing- and this must be as good as it gets. But, there's so much more... That's why we started putting these digital courses together.
