“Focus on what really matters. If everything matters, then nothing matters. Make sure that what you do is aligned with what really matters." Peter Stevens and Maria Matarelli are the co-founders of the Personal Agility Institute and the authors of the “Personal Agility”. In this episode, Peter and Maria shared what Personal Agility System is and how we can apply this framework in our daily lives. They highlighted how many people face typical challenges that hinder them from truly getting what they want by using the “life is an ocean” metaphor. Both of them then gave a complete walkthrough of the 6 powerful questions in Personal Agility System, especially highlighting the key question to find “what really matters”. Peter and Maria then shared how this framework is not just applicable to individual, but also to leadership and organizational agility, and how it can help create alignment and trust within an organization. On today's show, we interview Chef Sharon Guerin, who shares with us her life story about how she became an executive chef. And how she applied the Personal Agility methodology to unlock her hidden potential and take control of her life. Sharon has been cooking since the age of nine, and she always harbored this secret desire to be a chef and have her own cooking show. But then life happened. At one point in time, Sharon was a single mother, working five jobs, struggling to take care of her five kids.  In November 2017, at the age of 54, she decided to leap of faith, and she quit her job as the staffing director of a health care agency. As fate would have it, a chance encounter with Maria Maratelli opened up a world of opportunity for Sharon. They got talking, and Sharon confided in her aspirations to start her YouTube cooking channel. Three days hence, as promised, Maria went over to Sharon's house to help shoot her first-ever YouTube video.    The rest, as they say, is history. “How did things start falling in place all of a sudden for Sharon?” you may ask. Sharon's success is no fluke.  Rather, it is the result of taking some very intentional steps and using personal agility. You will learn how having Maria as a coach helped Sharon let go of the long-held beliefs that held her back.  Though extremely tough, you will also learn the importance of making your near and dear ones behave responsibly and with accountability. And last but not least, John and Sharon emphasize how having your own tribe, your own mentors, can help you tide over some of the most trying times. Enjoy! What You Will Learn In This Show My life story and how I evolved into the culinary queen Using the Agility methodology to unlock your hidden potential How faith and positivity can help you realize your wildest dreams Letting go of the long-held beliefs that are holding you back And so much more… Questions That I Ask On This Show What was any significant moment that caused you to go on your passion journey? What was the origin story for your brand, The Culinary Queen? What are some of the biggest things that you and Maria worked on? Was it difficult for you to understand your self-identity? What is the importance of surrounding yourself with positive people? Why is it so hard for people to let go of beliefs that aren't serving them anymore? Now that you have had your success, what is the aftermath? What does life look like today from the day you started? What is the secret to developing a winner's mindset? Wish to learn techniques that can work wonders for your professional life and your personal life? Today's episode will teach you how you can apply personal agility to unlock your passion and creativity. In today's show, we interview Maria Matarelli, CEO of Formula Ink and co-founder of the Agile Marketing Academy and Personal Agility Institute, where she reveals how her agile management strategies can catapult you miles ahead of the competition both in your business and personal life. Always a hard charger, Maria started working at 15 and paid her way through college. When she entered professional life, she decided to pursue agile project management – which was then an unknown field with very few experts. Maria progressed quickly through the corporate ranks, and as a 22-year-old, she was managing a 120-person team and saving her employer $1.5 million every year through her project management expertise.  So, when she was handed out a measly 5% increment, Maria decided to push back against the system, and ultimately, she managed to wrangle out a 100% salary increase. This win proved to be the turning point for Maria as she realized that if she worked hard enough and made herself indispensable, she could bend the rules.  After some more agile project management stints, Maria decided to branch out by kickstarting her own consultancy. While this was a brave and farsighted decision, the first year-and-a-half certainly tested Maria's mettle. Maria went all out to realize her vision, from running through her entire bank balance to buying one-way tickets to Thailand and India. Agile techniques, Maria reveals, can help you improve not only on a professional level but also personally. So, if you are routinely bouncing off things, lack consistency and follow-through, then listening to Maria will surely help you out.  Enjoy! Questions That I Ask In This Show How do you transition from the insurance industry to agile management consultancy? Can you recall your AH-HA moment? How did you overcome your fears and doubts when you were starting? What do you do to stay on top of the market? Do you recall your first big success? What did it feel like? How have you applied your agile methodology to your personal life? How did you make a name for yourself as a DJ? Why did I see you wearing a T-Rex Costume? Where do I get my own money gun? What You Will Learn In This Show How I started my own agile management consultancy How to overcome some of the biggest entrepreneurial challenges How to build your personal brand in the consultancy space How finding your own niche can drive profitability and growth. How to apply agile methodology to your personal life And so much more Follow Maria here: Maria's Website - http://mariamatarelli.com Formula Ink - http://formulaink.com Agile Marketing Academy - http://agilemarketingacademy.com Personal Agility Institute - http://personalagilityinstitute.org     Follow John R. In July 2015, Maria Matarelli and Harvey Wheaton presented the results of Scrum Alliance's State of Scrum 2015 survey. The survey returned 4400+ responses that led to some very interesting results. I was able to get Maria and Aakash Srinivasan (both veterans of this podcast) to discuss some of the more interesting analysis of these results. Now, about the audio quality of this episode...  I'm sorry, but you will hear some obvious static during this episode (more during the first few minutes).  It turns out that I was using an older microphone that I hadn't recalibrated with my laptop. I've tried to mute it as much as possible through some editing. I will go back to my normal microphone in successive episodes. Maria Matarelli, president of , Certified Scrum Trainer (CST), and author, talks with me about her experience in a recent CSM class where she brought in Suzanne Oliver, of Heart of a Fighter, to act as a real-life Product Owner of/for her non-profit organization.  Maria's idea to have the CSM class focus on a real non-IT organization to help them realize their goals, yielded some very interesting results.  Listen to our conversation to learn more. Maria Matarelli (@MariaMatarelli on twitter) returns to talk workaholism with host Craig Price. Craig's hesitation to participate in the new martyrdom of "being busy" is explored as Maria defines hard work vs. workaholism. The two talk about how working too long, too often can destroy relationships, cause health problems and in some extreme instances, increased income (we told you Craig isn't 100% on board).  They show that working smarter is always preferred over working harder. Maria's book "Workaholic? A 12-Step Guide to Having a Life and Getting Things Done" is a great start on the road to recovery. Consider this podcast an intervention for those who just can't relax and must fill their lives with work.
