Welcome to Pocket Review, from the guys that brought you Retro Blissed! Marvel Month continues with yet another Spider-Man game. This time it's Mysterio's Menace, the first Spider-Man game on the Gameboy Advance. Will it be as surprisingly good as Sinister Six for the Gameboy Color? Will it be as infuriating as Silver Surfer? Will it be somewhere in-between, trapped in an eternal Hell known only to Trevor and Johnny and others plagued with gout, plantar fasciitis, peripheral neuropathy, and near crippling arthritis? Man that was a really honest sentence right there. Also this game is Tim's pick.
Matt and Johnny close up Marvel Month with the first super hero team up movie, The Avengers. Dropping in 2012, it became a massive success and made super hero crossover movies the new norm.
In conjunction with sister show Retro Blissed, Marvel Month begins on Retro Pop! To kick off, Matt and Johnny look at and discuss Guardians of the Galaxy! The first movie, dropping in 2014, was a surprise mega-hit, and touched the hearts and souls of many fans, quicjly becoming a world - renowned name,

We are joined by Naaim Siddiqi from the RBaseball Weekly podcast and we talk about why we skipped a lot of the movies in Phase 1 of the MCU. Is it possible to do so or is some of the backstory of previous movies needed to understand this movie? Welcome to Pocket Review, from the guys that brought you Retro Blissed! Marvel Month begins with Spider-Man 2 for Gameboy Color, which has you web slinging your way across 6 levels to save poor Aunt May who has been kidnapped. Will Tim, Trevor, and Johnny like it? Will Trevor ever be able to pronounce “sinister six” without screwing it up? Unlikely on that last one.
What am I supposed to tell the press? Training exercise. Isn't that the usual BS? It's the start of Marvel Month on Cinemavention, and to kick things off, we are joined by Jeffrey Sax and Tom DiGianvittorio to discuss the movie Iron Man. Spoiler alert on Willie's opinion about the movie since he forgot to mention it during the episode, he gave the movie a thumbs up, but could the MCU as we know it existed without Iron Man doing well in the box office? Plus, these terrorists at first glance seem to be really dumb for not killing Tony Stark, but we explain why it's not in their best interest to do so and who remembers MySpace? Ahh, the good 'ole days of social media.Differences Between the Movie and the Comics:Thanks to MaxTrollbot in the Cinemavention Discord for providing this insight!- Tony Stark is head of Stane International which takes over Stark industries with the secret help of SHIELD and drives Tony into becoming a homeless alcoholic while Rhodes has to fight Stane..- But the way they do it in the movie is soo much simpler, even though it never really addresses how Tony manages to get back control of Stark Industries. I mean, you don't get to be the CEO again just because you killed the guy who took the job from you. And it's doubtful that the board would be eager to reinstate Tony since he still doesn't want to make weapons.- Also, Stane's minions are called Chessmen for some reason.- In the comics he's a strategist, the closest allusion in the movie to his chess obsession is when he asks Pepper for the paper so he can do the puzzle.- He really was a minor, third-tier villain even by Iron Man standards.Kent's full email about Forrest GumpJeff's TwitterTom's TwitterSupport the show on Patreon!Join the watch party for the next movie!Music from https://filmmusic.io"Welcome to the Show" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com)License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Get bonus content on Patreon See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

This week it's the grand finale of Marvel Month on It Was a Thing on TV as we look at Electro playing a single dad and Tony Stark doing a season on Saturday Night Live. First, we start with one of the more recent shows this podcast has covered. Jamie Foxx, David Alan Grier and others showed a lot of promise when this debuted, but the plug was quickly pulled at Netflix. Dad, Stop Embarrassing Me! was just a bland comedy which relied on many tropes. Then, Marvel Month concludes with possibly the second-worst season of SNL ever. We talked about probably the worst season of SNL on episode 97, about the 1980-81 era. Now, we look at the 1985-86 season, a transition season of sorts, when most of the cast lasted just this one season if not less, and the writers lasted just as long, ushering in one of the best eras in the show's lengthy history. Marvel Month on It Was a Thing on TV continues why we also pay tribute to a wrestling legend! First, MCU month rolls along with a recent series where Cobie Smulders has a lot of lesbian sex and some other stuff happens in Portland. This was a good show but sadly the pandemic reared it's ugly head forcing the show's premature end. Also, there's a brief discussion spoiling Episode 4 of "Moon Knight" at the start. You've been warned. Next, Bob Saget is playing a widower taking care of his daughters, but it's not Full House. It's the early 2000s, this show is on the WB, and the two daughters on the show went on to much bigger and better things in the upcoming decades. Marvel month rolls on with Raising Dad. Finally, in honor of what would have been Mr. Fuji's 88th birthday on May 4th, we present perhaps the single greatest thing the legendary WWF manager gave us. As part of a series of skits on WWF Tuesday Night Titans in 1985, Fuji and his wrestler Don Muraco play Crockett and Tubbs in this parody of the NBC drama. This sketch is so bad it's good. Marvel Month continues here at It Was a Thing on TV as this week we talk Thanos and his daughter! First, in the past, we have had many modern-day adaptations of plays on both television and in movies--West Side Story, The Odd Couple, You Can't Take It with You, and the list goes on. In 2014, a modern take of Pygmalion/My Fair Lady titled Selfie aired on ABC. Despite having devoted fan base, only a handful of episodes aired on the network before being burned off online. Then, before he was Thanos and Wade Wilson's sidekick, Josh Brolin in 2003 starred in this NBC political drama about a California Senator. Can a prison teacher turned politician survive in the wild world of D.C. in this modern-day Mr. Smith Goes to Washington? Also, we briefly touch on one of Mike's adventures involving one of the show's guest stars around this time. If you have any feedback or show suggestions, you can always drop us an e-mail at itwasathingontv@gmail.com Timestamps 0:38 - Intro to Episode 260 2:28 - Selfie 1:06:30 - Classic Commercial Break 1:10:39 - Intro to Episode 261 1:12:32 - Mister Sterling

In the final week of Marvel Month, we SMASH into the green avenger himself, The Incredible Hulk! The best of the three that we watched, this special turned into multiple well-loved seasons of the show. We talk about this un-failed pilot but mostly we gush about the toys that it spawned. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcDZiuyvw64js-zvBe9h_mTseycBaaZkE (WATCH) Recorded & Published by Golden Ox Studios - https://goldenoxstudio.com/ (https://goldenoxstudio.com/) SUBSCRIBE TO THE PODCAST: https://www.networkspecialpodcast.com/listen (https://www.networkspecialpodcast.com/listen) SOCIAL MEDIA https://twitter.com/netspecialpod (https://twitter.com/netspecialpod) https://www.facebook.com/networkspecial (https://www.facebook.com/networkspecial) http://instagram.com/networkspecial (http://instagram.com/networkspecial) https://www.tiktok.com/@networkspecial (https://www.tiktok.com/@networkspecial)
It's week two of Marvel Month and we are tackling a one-season wonder The Amazing Spider-Man from 1977. Unlike Dr. Strange, this pilot DID get picked up and CBS gave it a little bit of a chance to do its thing. This opening pilot is a bit too long and none of the actors really shine like they do in other Spider-Man outings. Get caught in our web and laugh your spider senses silly! https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcDZiuyvw64js-zvBe9h_mTseycBaaZkE (WATCH) Recorded & Published by Golden Ox Studios - https://goldenoxstudio.com/ (https://goldenoxstudio.com/) SUBSCRIBE TO THE PODCAST: https://www.networkspecialpodcast.com/listen (https://www.networkspecialpodcast.com/listen) SOCIAL MEDIA https://twitter.com/netspecialpod (https://twitter.com/netspecialpod) https://www.facebook.com/networkspecial (https://www.facebook.com/networkspecial) http://instagram.com/networkspecial (http://instagram.com/networkspecial) https://www.tiktok.com/@networkspecial (https://www.tiktok.com/@networkspecial)
This week on Network Special we tackle the OG. The Original. The TRUE Dr. Strange (sorry Benny!) from 1978 starring Peter Hooten and Jessica Walter. This failed TV pilot aired opposite Roots which gives you an idea of why this might be a failed TV pilot. But also, it sucks! Oh, and BTW, it's Marvel Month all month long (and maybe even into the next month - I can't count)! https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLcDZiuyvw64js-zvBe9h_mTseycBaaZkE (WATCH) Recorded & Published by Golden Ox Studios - https://goldenoxstudio.com/ (https://goldenoxstudio.com/) SUBSCRIBE TO THE PODCAST: https://www.networkspecialpodcast.com/listen (https://www.networkspecialpodcast.com/listen) SOCIAL MEDIA https://twitter.com/netspecialpod (https://twitter.com/netspecialpod) https://www.facebook.com/networkspecial (https://www.facebook.com/networkspecial) http://instagram.com/networkspecial (http://instagram.com/networkspecial) https://www.tiktok.com/@networkspecial (https://www.tiktok.com/@networkspecial)

‘Avengers: Endgame’ is just days away, and with that comes the final installment in our Marvel Month series: ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming.’ We discuss our relationships with Spider-Man as a cinematic figure, Tom Holland’s portrayal of a character who hadn’t been quite nailed down by other talented actors like Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, and where the character is headed as the Marvel story drifts further into space—decidedly different than the high school setting of this film. Host: Sean Fennessey Guest: Adam Nayman
In the penultimate episode of our Marvel Month preview series, we sit down to discuss ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron.’ How does AI function as a villain in the Marvel universe? Does the movie jump from location to location too frequently? Is this movie better now than when it actually came out? Host: Sean Fennessey Guest: Micah Peters
As ‘Avengers: Endgame’ inches closer, we continue our Marvel month with one of the most effective, influential, and surprising movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: James Gunn’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ We review the original ‘Guardians’ comics, then examine the movie’s star-making ability, its use of music, and its long-lasting impact on the MCU. Host: Sean Fennessey Guest: David Shoemaker

We break down Joss Whedon's 'Marvel’s The Avengers’—a landmark in the cinematic universe that established the rapport between the tentpole superstars and set the tone for the films going forward. How has the MCU changed our relationship with movie stars, and does that make Marvel the most important force in Hollywood right now? Host: Sean Fennessey Guest: Chris Ryan
In the first episode of our Marvel Cinematic Universe series—dropping once a week in the lead-up to ‘Avengers: Endgame’—Sean and Amanda go deep on the first Captain America movie. How did this movie set the tone for patriotism in superhero movies? Did it succeed as a period piece/spy drama? Why don’t Avengers have more sex? Host: Sean Fennessey Guest: Amanda Dobbins
