Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel's Agent Carter, Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage, Marvel's Iron Fist, Marvel's The Defenders, Marvel's Inhumans, Marvel's The Punisher, Marvel's Runaways, Marvel's Cloak & Dagger, and Helstrom* comprise 29 seasons of television/386 episodes/over 300 hours, making up a massive portion of the official Marvel Cinematic Universe (as of the end of 2020, approximately 86% of it by runtime**). … The Incidents That Have Caused Increasing Concern: ...I was already scared by 2019 of how Captain Marvel would handle Coulson's history. Fortunately, the excellent film did not provide many significant problems, but this felt only like luck, since the film did not appear to take Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. into account: seemingly implying that Fury and Coulson barely knew each other in 1995 (the show established Fury recruited and supervised Coulson in 1982), and having Coulson mention the Kree (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 1 involved him not knowing who the Kree were – fortunately, the T.A.H.I.T.I. protocol erased Coulson's memory of everything to do with his resurrection, and with Kree being a key part, they would naturally have also been wiped). The perfect casting of Mahershala Ali as Blade also unfortunately further drove the false narrative online, with people claiming that it meant the shows were “confirmed” non-canon due to Ali already having an MCU role as Cottonmouth. While this was an Internet overreaction given there are other examples of dual casting, the dual casting quirk not being acknowledged felt concerning. It admittedly did not help that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 6 set itself a year after Avengers: Infinity War and Marvel's Runaways: Season 3 took its timeline through to post-Avengers: Infinity War 2018 dates, yet unfortunately neither referenced the Snap. A 2019 quote from Mr. Feige, which fairly described the Disney+ shows as the first time TV would truly connect back and forth with the films, was falsely run by sites as “confirmation” that the other shows were not part of the MCU. This quote has been weaponised and referenced ad nauseum for 2 years. The Darkhold would appear in WandaVision with no link to Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D./Marvel's Runaways The fan reaction to the Darkhold and Mobius scenes has also led to upsetting incidents where creators such as Jac Schaeffer and Michael Waldron are asked questions they are seemingly, understandably, not informed to answer, giving confused and accidentally damaging quotes. Cannon Impact: There are other great Marvel shows, e.g. Legion, but these have nowhere near the power or lasting impact in my heart simply by virtue of not being part of this world. The MCU family is such a wonderful thing, but right now, Television-inclusive fans don't feel like we're welcome in that family anymore. Mooted “Possibilities” If the Inhuman Royal Family needed to be rebooted within the MCU… it would not be the worst thing imaginable. The idea of being an extricable part of the MCU does not apply to Marvel's Iron Fist There is precedent with Star Wars for wiping canon, but there it was motivated by a need to free the storytelling. The Marvel Television MCU shows are not particularly restrictive. Most things can be picked up on fairly easily, perhaps at most needing a couple of throwaway setup lines. Alternate Universe: The shows aren't novelty What If…? type stories, e.g. “What If… Phil Coulson Were Resurrected?”, made to be a separate little alternate story – but born and bred as parts of building, developing, growing, interweaving the beautiful main MCU world and timeline. Some Hopes Recently, Mr. Feige made the comment, “Everything is on the board. That's one of the fun things about the comics is that characters would appear and disappear and come and go […] There are some great characters and actors from those shows.” This exciting quote bears similarity to previous remarks of Mr. Feige's, such as, “All of those things inhabit, however far on the outskirts, the same continuity, so certainly that opportunity [to integrate those characters] exists.” Eternals Earns PG-13 Rating https://www.filmratings.com/Search?filmTitle=eternals&x=0&y=0 https://www.cbr.com/marvel-eternals-rating-description/ FilmRatings.com's breakdown of the rating describes Eternals as including "fantasy violence and action, some language and brief sexuality." It's the latter element that has fans raising their eyebrows, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's movies having avoided sexual content since Disney acquired Marvel Entertainment in 2009. Unlike MCU movies past, romance is said to play a key role in the film's narrative. It even features a love triangle between on-again, off-again Eternal couple Ikaris (Richard Madden) and Sersi (Gemma Chan) and Dane Whitman (Kit Harington), the mortal human who's dating Sersi when the movie picks up in the present. The "brief sexuality" could also allude to a scene with Thena (Angelina Jolie), an Eternal warrior who becomes romantically involved with the Deviant Kro in Marvel's comics books. Perhaps tellingly, the final Eternals trailer shows Kro ensnaring Thena with his tendril-like appendages in an oddly intimate fashion, possibly alluding to the pair being in love. Even more intriguing, Eternals is confirmed to include an onscreen kiss between the Eternal Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) and his husband (Haaz Sleiman), which begs the question: will the movie be daring enough to feature a sexual moment involving a queer couple? It seems unlikely, given the MPAA's restrictive attitude towards LGBTQ+ content, but that won't stop fans from hoping anyway. Disney+ Day will feature content premieres from all of the marquee brands on service, including: The streaming premiere of Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings A special celebrating the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney+ with an exciting look towards the future The special was teased as part of Disney's massive lineup for Disney+ Day. Outside of celebrating current MCU titles on the service, the special will also give fans an "exciting look forwards the future." With Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk having all completed production, and Moon Knight nearing the end of filming, there's plenty for the service to tease. The company promises subscribers will be treated to "breaking news, first looks, new trailers, exclusive clips, and appearances from Disney+ creators and stars." Along with the MCU special, Disney+ Day will serve as the streaming premieres of Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Disney's Jungle Cruise. For those looking for something not Marvel-related on Disney+, the company has promised new content for all of its other major brands, including Pixar, Star Wars and National Geographic. As part of its preview of upcoming fall TV shows, Entertainment Weekly casually confirmed that Marvel's Hit-Monkey is not only a go but it's coming on Nov. 17 to Hulu. The long-in-development series has been relatively quiet since it was first announced as part of a suite of adult animated shows for Hulu, but fans can now expect it soon. Along with the release date, Hulu shared the first image from the show, featuring the titular assassin and his incorporeal sidekick. Check it out: Revenge can be sweet — and sometimes fuzzy. Based on the Marvel comic and created by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, this darkly comedic series follows a Japanese snow macaque whose clan meets a stranded hitman, Bryce (Jason Sudeikis), and nurses him back to health. But when Bryce bites the dust, it's up to the titular simian (guided by Bryce's ghost) to follow in his assassin footsteps and seek vengeance. "He's a character who is violent and temper amental but also deeply wounded and innocent," says Gordon. —Devan Coggan Hit-Monkey Trailer https://twitter.com/Marvel/status/1439952785953361927?s=20 Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D./Agent Carter Marvel One-Shot “Agent Carter” Becomes Easier To Find On Disney+ https://whatsondisneyplus.com/marvel-one-shot-agent-carter-becomes-easier-to-find-on-disney/ Following the release of the Marvel One-Shot “All Hail The King” on Disney+, Disney+ has made a little reshuffle and moved out the Agent Carter short into its own listing, having previously been found in the “Iron Man 3” extra section. In the short, we see British operative Peggy Carter joining the nascent S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. As she searches for the “Zodiac” key, Agent Carter also battles her misogynistic, bureaucratic boss, Agent Flynn. It takes place after the main events of Captain America: The First Avenger. The short was originally released in 2013 and was released originally on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray/DVD. It stars Hayley Atwell, Bradley Whitford, Dominic Cooper, Shane Black, Neal McDonough, and Tim Trobec. Currently, the short has only been moved into its own listing in some countries, including the US, Canada and Australia. Moving the short out from the extras section makes sense for multiple reasons, mainly to make it easier for people to find it. While adding extra content like deleted scenes or behind-the-scenes footage makes more sense to include in that section. Bonus features that don't have any real connection bar a home media physical release, are much more useful listed separately. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. star Chloe Bennet shuts down rumors about her reprising her role as Quake for Marvel's Secret Invasion series on Disney+. https://www.instagram.com/chloebennet/ https://www.cbr.com/secret-invasion-chloe-bennet-debunks-quake-rumors/ Bennet commented on the persistent rumors during a recent Instagram story, noting, "I have avoided saying anything like this in general, on social media or whatever, because I thought maybe it would blow over, but it has not. I am in no way attached or involved, even at all or a little bit, in the Secret Invasion Marvel thing. I honestly don't even know really what that is... I am only coming on here to say this because it has gotten to the point that every day I'm getting hundreds of messages about this... I'm now getting like approached in person. Today it was in the tampon aisle at Target... So I figured I would just clear the air." Shang-Chi earned a total of $34.7 million domestically according to Box Office Mojo in its second box office weekend falling only 54% from it's premiere weekend. Shang-Chi has now earned $144.5M domestically and $259M worldwide. In comparison Black Widow fell 68% in its second box office weekend but benefited from a healthy $60M from Disney+ premiere sales in its premiere weekend. Other Disney second-weekend drops have been varied, with “Jungle Cruise” shedding 55%, “Cruella” 49% and “Free Guy” 35%. Universal's “F9,” another pandemic box office success, opened to $70 million in June and dropped 57% to $30.1 million in its second frame. Pre-pandemic Marvel releases have traditionally held well in their second weekends: “Avengers: Endgame” declined by 59%, “Captain Marvel” by 56%, “Thor: Ragnarok” by 54%, “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" by 56%, “Doctor Strange” by 50% and “Ant-Man” by 57%. “Black Panther” enjoyed the most slight second-weekend drop in 2018, with just 45% after opening to a massive $202 million over Presidents Day weekend. The strength of Shang-Chi's Labor Day weekend opening seems to have inspired Disney to commit to debuting its remaining theatrical releases exclusively in theaters for the rest of the year, including Marvel Studios' Eternals. Disney announced that the rest of its domestic release slate for the year will honor a theatrical window ranging from a minimum of 30-45 days per film although the 30 day window only applies to Encanto according to the exclusive reported by Variety. The term “minimum” seems to point to the fact that Disney could extend that 30-45 day window should they prove to be hits and there is an audience to attend in person. Marvel Announces Four Unknown Films Scheduled for 2024 https://collider.com/new-marvel-movies-coming-in-2024/ Walt Disney Studios has updated its upcoming release schedule, which now includes four untitled Marvel films dated for 2024. These include newly announced films scheduled for February 16th, May 3rd, July 26th, and November 8th. Marvel has previously announced all of its movies on the way through Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, scheduled for May 5, 2023. After Guardians, there are still three other untitled Marvel films planned for the year, however, the addition of four more unknown Marvel films in 2024 and their release dates is entirely new. Possible films to fill those slots that are currently in development and without a known release schedule include Fantastic Four Deadpool 3 Blade Avengers-Level Team up to end the phase (not confirmed in development) Could be linked to Russo Brothers story from last week Captain America Sequel Possible X-Men MCU – Non-Marvel Studios Sony Won't Send Any Major Blockbusters Directly to Streaming Platforms https://www.cbr.com/sony-no-major-films-to-streaming/ Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra is insisting Spider-Man: Far From Home, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and other blockbusters will retain their theater exclusivity window and not go straight-to-streaming. "There is a higher bar theatrically to get films into theaters so you will probably not see as many films going directly to theaters," Vinciquerra said during a media conference. He conceded that some of Sony's smaller films might not be viable for theatrical release in the current climate but promised, "We have about 12 to 15 major films a year distributed to theaters and will do the same going forward." Vinciquerra pointed out the rise in piracy rates since other studios decided to implement day-and-date streaming releases, labeling it "a big concern" moving forward. The executive noted that Sony is in a unique position as it does not have a streaming service of its own, instead acting as an "arms dealer" in the ongoing streaming wars, able to put its content up for auction. He was quick to clarify, "But you won't see our major films go that way." Sony recently changed the name of its Spider-Man franchise from the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters to Sony's Spider-Man Universe, suggesting it has larger plans for the web-slinger moving forward. With rumors hinting at a live-action Spider-Verse crossover, the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home could potentially bridge the gap between Sony's animated and live-action Spider-Man franchises by incorporating Miles Morales. That Doctor Strange episode, I wrote in February of 2019. I think I should've called it a Nexus Point instead of an Absolute Point. The Loki scripts weren't even written yet, so that animatic locked before Loki even finished their scripts because you're always writing about two years ahead of animation. It's kind of intense and insane." Atwell is best known for portraying Peggy Carter across the Marvel universe, in such films as “Captain America: The First Avenger,” “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Ant-Man” And “Avengers: Endgame,” as well as in her own TV series “Marvel's Agent Carter.” Her other live-action credits include “Conviction,” “Criminal U.K.” and “Howards End” for TV and “Brideshead Revisited,” “The Duchess,” “Christopher Robin” and “Blinded by the Light” in film. Up next she can be seen in the highly-anticipated “Mission: Impossible 7” opposite Tom Cruise. Netflix Defenders Rosario Dawson Books A Room In Disney's ‘Haunted Mansion' Movie https://deadline.com/2021/09/rosario-dawson-haunted-mansion-movie-casting-1234828943/ Rosario Dawson has been set to join LaKeith Stanfield and Tiffany Haddish in Haunted Mansion, Disney's latest live-action film based on one of its theme park attractions. Welcome to Episode 224 of Broadcast Geeks! On this podcast we discuss all things pop culture provided that our DVR's have space and our streaming accounts are paid up. This week, the Geeks (Matt Orrin and Midnight Mitch Jones) are virtually together to discuss all things geek. You're getting M&Ms this week, at least in the form of Matt and Mitch! Everyone is out on a secret mission so the two M's break down what they are watching. We start with the What if? show that is on Disney+, in which they take classic Marvel takes and posit how things would be if certain circumstances changed. For example, in the first episode, what if Peggy Carter took the super serum rather than Steve Rogers? In a future episode, what if T'Challa was found by Yondu and became Star Lord? There are ALL kinds of things that could have been in the MCU. Titans started their new season with a bang! Actually, it was a crowbar to the head, repeatedly, but you get the point. This season will be featuring the Red Hood, and if you read the comics then you have an idea as to what happens in the first couple of episodes. Nightwing is dealing with a lot and has to work with Jonathan Crane to find a new the Red Hood, and that includes getting him some cannabis to smoke. It made us wonder what kind of strain Poison Ivy would grow, and would it be heavily poisonous in order for her to get high? You can send your feedback and show topic ideas to email@example.com. Not Producer Kyle owes Ginger a significant amount of money and we geek out about Marvel's What If... on Disney Plus, Malice at the Palace on Netflix and we go back a couple of years and recommend Trust, a show that's on Hulu that originally broadcast on Hulu in 2018

On this week's episode of the Worst. Comic. Podcast. EVER!: We saw the return of Stargirl to the CW this past week. For a first episode back, there was a lot of storylines introduced, as well as some new characters and a few that are returning. In addition, over on Disney+, we got the first episode of Marvel's What If? series, which revisited the events of Captain America: The First Avenger. In traditional What If fashion, this initial episode dealt with Steve Rogers not receiving the super-soldier serum; instead it went to our favorite British agent, Peggy Carter. Tell me you wouldn't want to see a movie featuring Captain Carter? A lot of well-known creators announced that they will be setting up shop over at Substack. We discuss how this may impact creators, publishers and the industry. Of course, we have our Pick 3 selections, sponsored by our friends at Clint's Comics in Kansas City. Was wäre, wenn nicht Steve Rodgers sondern Peggy Carter das Super Soldaten Serum bekommen hätte? Was wäre, wenn statt Peter Quill der Black Panther zu Starlord geworden wäre? Solche Szenarien zeigt uns MARVELS WHAT IF...?
The 4th television show from the Marvel Cinematic Universe has arrived in 'WHAT IF...?' (1:40), in the first episode we explore a timeline where Peggy Carter received the super soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers. 'FREE GUY' (23:51), one of the films that was in production during Disney's acquisition of Fox has hit theaters. Starring Ryan Reynolds, the movie is filled with elements of video games, comedy, and action. The sequel to the secret and surprise hit 'DON'T BREATHE' (41:45) has hit theaters only and we had to check it out in theaters. Desmund got the chance to catch up on a new tv show from HBO 'THE WHITE LOTUS' (52:29) a limited drama series with an ensemble cast that has the streets talking! And per usual, of course we have a ton of news to talk about. (1:03:50) (Song: Casio x Jungle) 2BlackNerds.com

A being known only as The Watcher takes us into an alternate universe where Steve Rogers never became Captain America. When Steve is injured, Peggy Carter receives Dr. Erskine's serum to become the world's first super soldier. Fighting back against Col. Flynn and his misogynistic attitude, Peggy mounts an attack against the nazis, led by Johann Schmidt, and reclaims the Tesseract for the Allies. Along with Howard Stark & Steve Rogers in a HYDRA stomper suit, Captain Carter liberates a group of POWs, which includes Bucky Barnes and the Howling Commandos. Together, they defeat Red Skull & ultimately end the war. But Captain Carter sacrifices herself to do so and is transported through time and space by the Tesseract. She ends up in the Avengers facility in 2012, face-to-face with SHIELD director Nick Fury and Agent Clint Barton (Hawkeye). The first episode of Marvel's animated anthology series stars Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Bradley Whitford, Dominic Cooper, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones, Neal McDonough, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Ross Marquand, Jeffrey Wright, and Josh Keaton. Between movie delays, season premieres, merchandise leaks, and more, The Direct Podcast is loaded this week with everything you need to know about the universes you love. What If..? is here and Marvel Studios' first animated series has given fans a sneak peek into the vast multiverse. Episode one features Peggy Carter becoming the first Avenger in a re-telling of the classic Captain America story. What were the highs and lows of the first episode? What is to be expected moving forward in the MCU's first animated series? We break everything down in our What If..? review. The biggest news of the week is another delay for Venom: Let There Be Carnage from September 24 to October 15. With concerns rising about the COVID-19 Delta Variant and shaky box office returns from comic book movies this year, Sony Pictures is giving their Tom Hardy sequel another few weeks to get as much as they can out of the theatrical release. What does this mean for the rest of the 2021 slate? Is Spider-Man: No Way Home in danger of delay? On the flip side of that coin, Disney CEO Bob Chapek re-confirmed that Shang-Chi will continue as planned with a 45-day theatrical release on September 3. This will be an "interesting experiment" for Disney as they test the waters of theatrical releases among the fluid COVID-19 situation. A great equalizer in these decisions is the Box Office. After The Suicide Squad underperformed early expectations in the books, what is the future of Box Office in the year 2021? We sit down with our Box Office correspondent David Thompson to navigate these uncharted waters. All of that plus your top news, a Direct Discourse about world-building, and more on this week's The Direct Podcast.TIMECODES3:33 - Quick Question8:41 - Sizzle Reel10:57 - Venom 2 Delayed, Shang-Chi Stays17:27 - New Spider-Man: No Way Home Merch25:15 - The Suicide Squad's Box Office (w/ David Thompson)37:50 - What If...? Marvel's first foray into animation is finally here in the new series What If...? that takes a look at the multiverse of the MCU if one action was changed. As episode 1 follows a WWII-era Peggy Carter that becomes Captain Carter instead of Steve Rogers becoming Captain America one has to ask... Was there too much storyline in too short of time? Did the animation live up to the Marvel standard that we've all come to know and depend upon? And what's the deal with Bucky making 3 seafood jokes? Ethan breaks down the episode, giving his honest thoughts on the good and the bad, as well as finding SO MANY Easter Eggs! What did you think of the first episode of What If...? Questions Covered: 01:59 – Can you explain the Biblical references in the Johnny Cash song “when the man comes to town” and is it biblically accurate? I'd love to be able to share Jimmy's thoughts on this on social media. 12:55 – I understand that in devotional language the Blessed Mother is “The Spouse of the Holy Spirit”. But it’s confusing to hear in the same prayer that the Blessed Mother is also the spouse of Joseph. (Did Mary have two spouses?) Also, I once said that Joseph was the “husband of Mary” and was corrected that he was the “spouse of Mary” and that made a big difference. She explained the marriage of Joseph and Mary was only “for show” and the “real” marriage was to the Holy Spirit. So what’s the right way to explain this gently – without having to disturb the pious fictions that people have lived with for a long time? 17:22 – I am reading a book “The Rod of an Almond Tree in God's Master Plan.” Basically, the theory is that God gave Adam a rod from the Tree of Life when He expelled Adam and Eve from Eden. The miraculous rod makes its way from Adam to Enoch, Shem, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, and David. David thrusts it into the ground while fleeing Jerusalem from his son Absalom. The miraculous rod grows into the tree that Christ was crucified upon to atone for our sins. Have you heard of this theory before? What do you think? Potential topic for “Mysterious World?” 21:15 – Is it possible the person of the Holy Spirit made brief appearances in the Bible? When Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene in the tomb (John 20:14-18), and to the two followers on the way to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35) and to the seven disciples fishing (John 21:1-14), is it possible that their eyes did not see Him because they were not seeing God the Son at first, but God the Holy Spirit for a brief time? 28:45 – In the Winter Soldier movie, Captain America meets his old love interest from before he travelled into the future and finds out that she married and grew old with someone else after she thought Captain America had died back in the 1940s. In the latest Avengers film, Captain America travels back in time to before Peggy Carter married this other man and marries her instead, thereby pre-empting the unnamed other man from ever marrying Peggy Carter. While Captain America was traveling back in time like this, would it have been adultery for him to have desire for and even make the move to pursue and marry a girl who he knew was married in his own future time but not in the time he was currently traveling to? Seems like this might be adultery for him, but not for her. What do you think? 33:34 – What’s the deal with St. Patrick and the snakes on the “plain”? I can’t find anything definitive out there. 39:22 – Why does the glorified Jesus not have the wounds of the Scourging at the Pillar or Crown of Thorns while keeping the nail marks and side wounds? 40:55 – Jesus’ nails were in his wrists (according to the Shroud of Turin), why do stigmatic saints have the wounds on their hands? 45:20 – How can genetic mutations cause evolution? 52:00 – Did Jesus bi-locate or multi-locate in the New Testament? 53:03 – Who would have cut Jesus’ umbilical cord? Or did the Virginal Birth not require this to happen? …
