Hey everyone, Alex here
This romantic comedy starring Scarlett Johanson and Channing Tatum has quite the conspiratorial twist! Set against the backdrop of the 1960's NASA's Apollo Program is something we NEVER expected to see in a big budget Hollywood film. Namely, the faking of the moon landing footage! That's right! This movie is about NASA faking the moon landing footage at the behest of a shady, government agent played by Woody Harrelson. Is he part of the Men In Black? Is this movie hinting at the truth or poking fun of those who don't trust the mainstream narrative? One thing about staying home in the air conditioning is that you wind up seeing a lot of commercials. And boy have they been advertising our first movie, "Fly Me to the Moon." It stars (in case you've been asleep or in a coma) Scarlett Johanson and Channing Tatum. They're selling it as a "fake the moon mission" movie but it's more than that...and less. Bill Bregoli and Bill McCuddy both saw it and they'll explain. Then there's "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F" in which Axel Foley returns to Beverly Hills after his daughter's life is threatened, and works with old pals John Taggart and Billy Rosewood to uncover a conspiracy. It's the fourth film in the franchise. Should it be the last? We'll let you know. Neil Rosen lets us know what he thought of the third season of "The Bear" and for you documentary fans there's "Faye" which covers the career of Faye Dunaway. Plus we've got the reality real estate show "Owning Manhattan" and the true crime limited series "Hollywood Con Queen." So listen in!

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Sticking to the 2000's Alec and Erik discuss a movie that is an homage to the B-horror films of the past, 2002's 8-Legged Freaks. This film truly has it all, mediocre early CGI, mutant animals terrorize a small town premise, and Scarlett Johansson in her biggest acting role to date. Join Alec and Erik as they talk their way through a Pay per view classic and another time capsule to the early 2000's. Enjoy!
And just when you thought it was safe, we've "BEEN AT THE MOVIES" again. Finally from our "Driving In The Car" Series, where we podcasts while traveling we are bringing you the long awaited, long promised Black Widow episode. Scarlett has completed her trek with Natasha Romanoff and the Capes Eat Free "Been At The Movies" crew is about to send her off with a hero's welcome she deserved. As one of the 4 female superhero lead movies to kick off that year, Black Widow was suppose to drop in theaters in 2020, a year after she "dropped" in theaters in Endgame (pun intended), but finally dropped in theaters in 2021, so we felt it right to drop the Black Widow episode in 2022...while on the road live. So you may hear a lot of real life in the background as breakdown the social dynamics of Natasha and her unique family unit as well as some MCU lore. Listen and enjoy. We back again like we never left.
Las canciones que complementan este especial son: "I still haven"t found what I"m looking for", por Scarlett Johanson y Bono; "Personal Jesus", por Depeche Mode; "I see men as trees walking", por Johnny Cash y The Carter family; "Jesus was an only son", por Bruce Sprinsteen; y "Las avispas", de Juan Luis Guerra. This week is we get medieval with THE GREEN KNIGHT. But before we talk about all the reasons why we didn't like this movie – and there are plenty, trust us – we discuss Scarlett Johanson's suit against Marvel/Disney. A couple of pro-union film nerds rally around the worker over Boss Mouse. When it comes to GREEN KNIGHT, we agree that it's a visual beauty. So what happened with the pacing? The disjointed storytelling? The attempts to create a vibe but then jarringly yank you right out of it? What happened here? Why does it feel like a glorified student film even with its gorgeous visuals? This is the 1st movie we both definitely didn't like, even though we both definitely tried to. Also Raphael tries to explain the A24 hype phenomenon to Raquel and she explains how watching GREEN KNIGHT in the theatre reminded her of going to see HEAVEN'S GATE. The Generation Splice is film podcast where retired psychologist Dr. Raquel Martinez, a Baby Boomer through & through, & her son Raphael Jose Martinez, a cranky millennial punk rocker/film writer, discuss various films through the lens of their generation & personal experiences. Every week one host picks a movie to dissect & see if they can splice together the generation gap via their love of film. Feel free to write to us! Give us some film suggestions at thegenerationsplice@gmail.com or @gensplicepod on Twitter. Raphael is on Twitter at @citycelluloid. You can find his film writing at cinefile.info and film-cred.com

In this episode, the boys jump into all sorts of things! We start out with Walmart. Did you know they don't have Apple Pay!? Moving on as the Olympics are wrapping up we talk about why they're relevant and what event you would participate in if they made you join the Olympics. Did you know, most of the Olympic athletes sleep on cardboard-built boxes just to stop them from having sex with each other. We all know that wasn't very successful because there's nothing else for them to do. BUT, what if we treated the Olympics like a lottery? Every four years the United States picks 100 people at random to compete. Now THAT would be entertaining. What event would you be strong in!? A word from our sponsor - Smooth My Balls. Scarlett Johanson sues Disney for a faulty Black Widow release! Scarlett Johansson, star of the latest Marvel movie “Black Widow,” filed a lawsuit Thursday in Los Angeles Superior Court against Disney, alleging her contract was breached when the media giant released the film on its Disney+ streaming service at the same time as its theatrical debut. Ms. Johansson said in the suit that her agreement with Disney's Marvel Entertainment guaranteed an exclusive theatrical release, and her salary was based in large part on the box-office performance of the film. “Disney intentionally induced Marvel's breach of the agreement, without justification, in order to prevent Ms. Johansson from realizing the full benefit of her bargain with Marvel,” the suit said. You guys, it's FINALLY here. Tomorrow morning, the ReLadies have to get up before the sun even hits the sky and fly into Nashville for Podcast Movement 2021. We can't wait to get the hell out of the Chicago filth and put our boots on! Yee haw. This week, we got to see the first set pictures from the highly anticipated MCU show - Hawkeye! What a tease. We are absolutely ready to be obsessed with another Marvel show, but only if Disney stops being sketchy with their movie releases and skimping out on people's paychecks *cough* run Scarlett Johanson her money please and thank you *cough) Crosshair returned to The Bad Batch this week and we kind of died a little inside. We also are doing full live reviews up on our YouTube of every episode so check them out! We'll be taking a little break the next couple of weeks because of the convention and most likely the week long hangover we're going to have after! Cheers! See you August 23!
