This parable is often called, “Build Your House Upon the Rock.” But really, this is a parable about hearing and doing. Faithful followers of Jesus are those who not only hear His words, but actively practice them.

God's Word is the solid foundation for a healthy family life.
God's Word is the solid foundation for a healthy family life.
At the heart of the story of two men who build two houses is the genuine reconciliation of the sinner with the Father in Heaven. How one approaches the offer of forgiveness and a new life in Christ is the lesson from Jesus' Parable. The genuine Christian and False Christian are portrayed side-by-side in this concluding parable from Jesus in his Sermon on the Mount. Loving God and loving his commandments are the genuine signs of a genuine Christian. The foundation is in the love of Christ. It is the love of the Father on which the genuine Christian depends. Jesus will establish this foundation and the wise Christian will build upon this foundation ... not his own.
What will you not pull away from that will eventually burst and be ruined?
In chapter 4 of 1 Samuel, Israel is battling the Phillistines, an enemy nation. After suffering defeat, they retrieve the ark from it’s resting place. Bringing it into camp and among the battle, they expect that it will guarantee their victory. However, they have not consulted with God for His direction, nor have Hophni and Phineas repented of their sins. Despite this, there seems to be the expectation that God will ensure their victory. Ironically, it is the Phillistines that remember the God of Israel, and all that He has done. Israel is defeated in battle once again, this time resulting in the capture of the ark, and the prophesied death of Eli’s sons. Using the ark as a good luck charm, and treating God as an object results in His glory leaving Israel. However, it is still part of God’s all-knowing plan which sets up the ancestral line from which Jesus will come. It is a desperate place to be when God departs from us. There are no shortcuts to how we approach Him. God is not an object to be used, but is a divine person to be loved.

With a global change occurring around the world, this week is the first of the online video messages available on our Facebook page. The C Word ... if you were to try to sum up the culture for the last 50 years throughout the West what would that word be? That's what we try and look at this week as we dive into the Word.
Welcome to the audio podcast for Dogwood Church in Athens, TX.
The Bible is not simply words about God; it is the Word of God. What are you trusting in?
Are you walking in the world? Or walking in the Word? That is the challenge today. Paying attention to our infrastructure more than our facade. We spend way too much time worrying about appearance, but not about the spiritual poverty we and those around us endure.
Are you alert and confident in your faith with the shifting sands of the culture around us? Do you see the opportunities God is showing you to share your faith? As we close out our Positively Charged series, Stan shares a message of boldness and hope.

Continuing our use of the Command Post analogy, this week we look at one of our enemy's tactics. The tactic of time ... the attempt to force us into the finite rather than the infinite, a focus on the present rather than eternity. Join us as we explore tactics of time.

Discipleship to Jesus is more than just attending a Sunday service. True Discipleship is marked by accepting the call to be with Jesus, to be like Jesus, and to do what Jesus did. Pastor John Mark Comer of Bridgetown Church in Portland, Oregon helps us end our "Garden Church" series as we transition into a year-long series entitled "Practicing the Way of Jesus."

Our current age is plagued by the lie that "material things will make you happy, and the more you have will only make you even happier." This idea is completely foreign to Jesus and should be alien to his followers. Pastor Darren walks us through the value of Simplicity as a way of life that should be prevailing in our church, a life marked my simple living so that we may live abundantly generous lives that reign in Heaven on Earth.

What do you trust? Do you trust family? Friends? Finances? Health? Tomorrow? The ground you walk on? Where is your faith, the things you see and touch or beyond that? Join us this week as we step into the next fruit of the Spirit, faithfulness.
Finding a true peace, an inner spiritual peace can not come from an external environment. It cannot be attained through actions, like meditation, nor creating the right space. True spiritual peace is a fruit of the Spirit and transcends all that is external and bursts out from internal. Listen in this week as we explore the fruit of the Spirit, Peace.
As we continue in our series Address The Mess, we focus on messes that are so big, they seem impossible to clean up - especially alone. Messes so big we don't even know how to start the cleanup. The messes that bring us closer to God...
We must get our foundation in God's love!
God created us in His image and gave us authority to order our circumstances by speaking His Word, in faith. We rely on God to direct us in what we say, then say it. Then, we stand in faith until we see His promise come to pass in our lives by His grace. This is the Jesus way of bringing change.
No one aims to live an average life. When we were younger, we all aspired to live extraordinary lives. But somewhere along the way, we settle into an average job, average debt, average marriage, average family, and average dreams. If we were to really follow Jesus, we would not be average. Jesus calls us to give more than expected. He calls us to live for tomorrow. He calls us to action because only by acting can we become anything but average.
How can you have faithfulness?

What are you building your life upon? Jesus invites us to have a firm foundation for our life and eternity on him and his word. Yet one of the greatest competitors to that is our money and stuff which tempt us to rely and depend on it instead of Him. Paul too talks about this issue when he tells Timothy to instruct Rich people in a certain way. We might not think of ourselves as very rich because there is always someone who has more but when we stop and really see what we have we just might be suprised how rich we are.
What does the Bible actually say about homosexuality? The Bible is clear, but culture, not so much on this topic. Stan shares part one of a two-week message with a theological perspective on homosexuality and the Bible.

In the first part of this sermon series on biblical manhood, Dr. Childs describes how the husband and father is to be the prophet of his home. A prophet is one who proclaims and explains the truth (and consequences) of God's Word to His people. He teaches through instruction, example, discipline, and evangelism. He needs to know biblical truths himself so he can teach, connect, and apply biblical truths to his family. The goal is victory not just survival, to be a loving leader and leading lover.
