In a change to scheduled programming, FMW historian Bahu (Bret) joins Kieran and Mark to talk through the history, action and legacy of the first ever women's No-Rope Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match: Megumi Kudo vs. Combat Toyoda from FMW's 7th Anniversary on May 5, 1996. PLUS: PowerSlam, Fire Matches, VHS, dubious production values, the mystery of the colourless commentator, Mark watches a LOT of FMW, quite a few powerbombs, and Terry Pratchett. FMW Stories Episode 3 going over Megumi Kudo's life and career. From her beginning in All Japan Womens to her going from job to job before getting an opportunity to join FMW and all the goods and bads that came with it before her 1997 retirement.
It may be a new year, but we still have some things to finish up from 1991 in the world of Joshi Puroresu. Along with a horrendous fancam of FMW that featured Svetlana Gounderenko, Megumi Kudo, and underdog WWA Women's Champion taking on Combat Army, The Boys get a chance to see Miss A wrestle under the name Dynamite Kansai for the time in tag team action before finishing the year off with the final day of Tag League, The Best 1991. Down to just the teams of Akira Hokuto & Bull Nakano, Jungle Jack, and Kyoko Inoue & Toshiyo Yamada, it was a star-studded end to a great tournament at the end of the year. Afterward, the boys give out their Year-End Awards and finally say goodbye to 1991 and hello to 1992! Please Enjoy! Follow VTG on Twitter: @VTGPod @XXIchiban (Dylan) @LWOSPRAlexR (Alex)
In the 19th episode of Victory Through Guts we are on the road to Wrestlemarinepiad 1991 but first must tackle the first half of AJW's Tag League the Best from October 1991. While some teams are comprised of duos you would expect like Bison Kimura and Aja Kong from Jungle Jack, there's a myriad of oddball teams such as rivals Kyoko Inoue and Toshiyo Yamada vying for the tournament win. While injuries and international tours sent the tournament into limbo until December, the matches we got to see via AJW Classics Episode 50 made it clear that there was still All Gas No Breaks for the women of AJW. In our coverage from other places in the joshi wrestling world, we discuss the FMW 2nd Anniversary Show from late September 1991. On it, we saw Reggie Bennett battle Combat Toyoda for the WWA Womens Championship, as well as Russian Judo Champion and Alex's new favorite wrestler Svetlana Goundarenko taking on Megumi Kudo in a special singles match. Hear about all that and more on this episode of Victory Through Guts! Follow VTG on Twitter: @VTGPod @XXIchiban (Dylan) @LWOSPRAlexR (Alex)
For this extra-special Halloween episode, Alexa is discussing the life of the Extreme Queen, Megumi Kudo. She set the standard for the caliber that wrestling exists at today. Kudo brought women into the emerging hardcore, death match wrestling scene. Suffering burns, lacerations, chains, barbed wire and explosions, she set the boundaries for where wrestling could go and was ahead of her time.Sources:"Megumi Kudo – She Was Hardcore Before It Was Cool" by Alex Podgorski on Pro Wrestling PostWikipedia.http://fmwwrestling.us/Kudo.htmletc.
History of FMW Volume 50 going over the year 2020 with clips and pictures for the final time line episode. Atsushi Onita works various outside death matches including returning to Kawasaki Stadium. Megumi Kudo works against Shark Tsuchiya one final time. Toru Sugiura continues his hot streak of main event matches in FREEDOMS and much more!
In the second annual Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling Special, the VTG boys take a look at what is available of the first 6 months of FMW in 1991. Topics of discussion include not only the formation of the Combat Army and Megumi Kudo's fast rise to Stardom, but also the importance of the earlier works of wrestlers like Shark Tsuchiya, Crusher Maedomari, and Reggie Bennett, all of which were just getting their start in FMW in 1991. This week we're chatting our Megumi Kudo matches and Joshi Deathmatches in general, AEW's Revolution and the rest of the week that was in wrestling.
2 awesome matches from the old women's Ace of the Deathmatch to the new queen of deathmatch. We have a great match from Megumi Kudo vs Shinobu kandro and another Good one from Rina Yamashita vs Risa Sera. Both good in the own right but I love the old FMW stuff. So great. Come knock back a couple cold dogs(beers) and hang with us. Keep watching wrestling! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/d-mill/support
If you’re calling yourself Cuty Suzuki, you’d better be adorable as hell. Fortunately, she was, and a star was born. Joshi wrestlers have been developing ‘idol’ personas to cultivate their following for decades, and pro wrestling uses all sorts of other pop culture to build mainstream appeal. Episode 6 sees David, George and Sarah try to figure out what went on with Blizzard Yuki - AJW’s attempt to break into anime crossovers - and filter out creepy commenters to get to grips with the designated ‘Idol Match’ at Big Egg. We’ve pulled together the details so you don’t have to trawl through the internet sleaze that we did. Enjoy. In this slightly different episode of the VTG Podcast, Dylan and Alex discuss the growing women's division in Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling back in 1990, including matches from three separate FMW shows. After the first dose of FMW for the boys left a bad taste in their mouths back in May, Atsushi Onita's world-renowned company came in swinging in the second half of 1990, with tremendous performances by Megumi Kudo, Miwa Sato, Combat Toyoda, and two rookies who would later become known as Crusher Maedomari and Shark Tsuchiya. After this viewing, it is clear to see why FMW is always a subject of conversation when it comes to the glory days of Joshi Puroesu. Please Enjoy! In this seventh episode of Victory Through Guts Dylan and Alex focus on the infamous Frontier Martial- Arts Wrestling and its burgeoning Joshi division. While there isn't a lot of content available, they watch matches from three different shows which showcases talents like Megumi Kudo, Combat Toyoda, Reibun Amada and other up and coming names in the FMW Joshi division, including future Mad Dog Military members. Our hosts then reflect on their thoughts about FMW's Joshi division and where it stands compared to companies like AJW and JWP. Please Enjoy! In the film "The Five Obstructions" directors Lars von Trier and Jørgen Leth explore the idea that obstacles (or obstructions) can often open up new avenues for artistic expression. It is with this in mind that Combat Toyoda and Megumi Kudo enter the ring in a No Ropes Exploding Barbed-Wire Deathmatch to lower the curtain on Toyoda's career. As the match progresses we begin to see that it's the things the women can't do because of their in-ring restrictions that make this into one of the truly great entries in the Deathmatch genre. Your boys are joined by Jason Gibbs, making his second appearance on the show, who will help break down all the action in the match. Remember to suggest matches for us to watch @TIAPOD on twitter, via e-mail at thisisawesomepod@gmail.com or even in your iTunes review!
