DAMN! They Were Good celebrates the careers of the most exciting and influential fighters in MMA history and on this episode it celebrates the career of former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, an athletic marvel and one of the biggest stars in the history of the sport. A national champion collegiate wrestler, Lesnar made his bones as a professional wrestling superstar before shifting to MMA in 2007 (after a brief flirtation with the NFL!). What followed was a transformative four year run where Lesnar won the UFC heavyweight title in just his fourth professional fight, and helped usher the promotion fully into the mainstream. What were the most iconic performances, what were our favorite memories, and what did we miss out on in Lesnar's short but remarkably significant run? Brock Lesnar's first defeat in the WWE came at the hands of Big Show with help of Paul Heyman at Survivor Series 2002, but it almost went very different! There is an old tale that suggest WWE wanted Hulk Hogan to face Brock Lesnar in Madison Square Garden, but unfortunately, Hogan wanted to beat Lesnar. WWE, wanted Hogan to put over Lesnar for the second time in 2002. Hulk Hogan gave WWE the ol' "that doesn't work for me brother"... FOLLOW ME! This was honestly a pretty memorable SummerSlam for 2 reasons--Brock Lesnar absolutely tossing John Cena around like a young child and the fact that most of the attires worn on this show made it onto Mattel action figures! We review this show that was at a weird point in time for WWE. Brock Lesnar just broke the Undertaker's WrestleMania undefeated streak earlier in the year, so he was on a tear. Brie Bella was feuding with Stephanie McMahon and was about to transition into a feud with her own twin sister, Nikki. The Miz and Dolph Ziggler were stealing shows over the Intercontinental Title. Bray Wyatt and Chris Jericho were having an odd feud that was pretty entertaining, in the long run. Roman Reigns does battle with Randy Orton. Paige and AJ Lee have a rematch for the Divas Title. Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose continue their blood feud, but in a lame-ass Lumberjack match. Also, Rusev represents Russia against Jack Swagger, representing America, in a Flag match. In the news, we discuss Hulk Hogan giving interviews on Stone Cold Steve Austin, alleged racism backstage in WWE, a former MMA fighter thinking about breaking into wrestling, NJPW and ROH working together, drama over Alberto Del Rio, TNA not knowing where they're going to land for their iMPACT!
