Jaime reminisces about the bygone glory days of the Kingsguard. He turns his attention to righting the wrongs of the current White Swords. He goes man-by-man through his sworn brothers, calling them out on the issues he has with them. Lastly, he has a heart-to-heart with Loras about his claim that Brienne killed Renly. Jenny and Mackelly applaud Jaime's closing arguments.Chapter Review:Jaime Lannister reads through the White Book, the written history of the Kingsguard, while waiting for his sworn brothers to join. When his brothers arrive, Jaime admonishes them for allowing the king to die under their watch. He then gauges their opinions on Tyrion's involvement in the death. He goes through each man and calls them out on issues. Ser Boros Blount will now be King Tommen's taste tester, as he's unfit to protect the boy he gave up so easily. He then questions why he's never heard of Ser Osmund Kettleblack before. After that, he asks Ser Meryn Trant to show him where in their vows it says to beat women and children, like he did to Sansa Stark. He praises Balon Swann's character but questions how he'd handle his family challenging Tommen's rule. Finally, he turns his attention to Ser Loras Tyrell,  who reminds Jaime of himself at that age. Jaime makes a case for Brienne's possible innocence in the murder of Renly Baratheon. His argument is enough to seed doubt in Loras' mind. Jaime tasks Loras with talking with Brienne and deciding her innocence or guilt. Whatever Loras determines is the case, Jaime will abide by it.Characters/Places/Names/Events:Jaime Lannister - Member of the Kingsguard. Twin brother to queen Cersei and older brother to Tyrion.Ser Boros Blount - Member of the Kingsguard. Gave up Tommen to Tyrion's men without a fight.Ser Meryn Trant - Member of the KIngsguard. We've reached it, another finale to probably our most problematic and least enjoyable season of the show yet. Season 5 ultimately proved to be a severe downshift for the show, as this was the full transition away from the books, away from the awesome character moments and amazingly well thought out story decisions that carried the first four seasons to make something that truly earned its spot in the prestige TV hall of fame. Then with this season, to quote Professor Pat, just became another show. An exceedingly well made show, but just another show nonetheless. This finale "Mother's Mercy" is a cap off of that transition, with several moments that were extremely shocking and provoking in the moment, but have lost their steam with the benefit of hindsight, and others that just felt like quick wiffs to set up for what was coming next. Stannis is ultimately defeated both on the battlefield and in his moral compass, and meets his death at the hands of Brienne. Sansa & Theon escape Winterfell in a moment that felt a little too convenient to the plot. Jon is betrayed, stabbed and left to die by the brothers of the Night's Watch. Arya kills Meryn Trant, but is chastised by the Faceless Men for taking a life that wasn't hers. Jorah & Daario set off to find Daenerys, who finds herself at the mercy of the Dothraki, while Tyrion is left in charge of Meereen. Jaime leaves Dorne with Myrcella and tries to come clean to her, only for her to die in his arms. Cersei atones for her sins by committing a walk of penance, naked, across the city. We begin the final phase of the journey next week with the premiere of Season 6, so be sure to keep tuning in for new episodes of #talkinthrones released every Friday, only on the #talkintvpodcast --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/talkintvpodcastgmailcom/support

We're almost at the end of yet another season! It's been a real chore beginning the track of the second half of the show, but at the very least I can say that Season 5 goes out on a high note. It's yet another penultimate episode, which are always fun to cover for this show. This one is entitled "The Dance of Dragons" after both the fifth and most recent book in the Song of Ice & Fire source material as well as the ancient Targaryen civil war between Aegon II Targaryen and his sister Rhaenyra over their father Viserys I's throne. This penultimate functions a little differently than previous ones, with previous penultimate episodes focusing on either a series of events that build up to a tragic betrayal resulting in death or a battle sequence that takes place in one location across the entire episode. This one instead opts to focus as more of a transition between the action packed Hardhome and the jam packed finale next week. Jon arrives back at the Wall with the remainder of the Wildling survivors and after a tense standoff, witnesses the fruit of his labor in his alienation of the Night's Watch. In Braavos, Arya attempts to carry out her first major assignment, but instead is distracted by the arrival of Meryn Trant, one of the few survivors so far from her kill list, putting her in a dangerous position. In Dorne, Jaime negotiates with Prince Doran for Myrcella's return to King's Landing, in a disappointing and unfulfilling end to a storyline that could have been awesome and was clearly setting up to play a bigger part in the story going forward. In the North, Ramsay's attack leaves Stannis' forces crippled, forcing him to make a terrible choice. In Meereen, Daenerys oversees the beginning of the Great Games in the Fighting pits. Sansa is summoned to the king's presence. He's not pleased that her brother keeps winning battles and he's taking it out on her. Tyrion rescues her from serious peril and treats her with kindness. She's not ready to trust him, having thrown in her lot with Ser Dontos. Mackelly and Simon would like to help her see sense. Chapter Review: Sansa Stark is summoned to King Joffrey Baratheon's presence. She doesn't expect a warm welcome. Sure enough he's hopping mad. Her brother Robb has only gone and utterly defeated the new army that his great uncle Ser Stafford Lannister was pulling together in the Westerlands. Obviously he used sorcery and cannibalism to achieve this. Joffrey wants to kill her, but even he recognizes the danger to his “uncle” Jamie if he did. The king orders the hound to beat Sansa, but ser Dontos, the fool, tries to intervene by mushing a morningstar melon on her head. It's a lot less painful than what she's braced for, a lot messier, and funnier. But Joffrey is not laughing. He orders Sers Boros Blount and Meryn Trant to do what he's ordered. They beat her and rip her dress to shame her. It's getting pretty bad when Tyrion arrives and saves her. He tries to educate his nephew, threatens Trant, and escorts Sansa to his rooms. There, she's patched up and catches a nap. On waking, she concludes that there is no such thing as a true knight. Tyrion assures her that he cares for her, but she continues to tow the line: I love Joffrey. Rather than stay in his rooms, she is escorted back to her own chambers, so that she can once again meet with Ser Dontos. Characters/Places/Names/Events: Sansa Stark - Eldest daughter of Lord Eddard Stark and Catelyn Tully. Betrothed to Joffrey Baratheon. Captive of the Lannisters.Queen Cersei Lannister - Widow of King Robert Baratheon, twin sister of Ser Jamie Lannister. Sansa tries to come to terms with her reality. King Joffrey reveals that they are still to be married, that his name-day is coming up, and that his cruelty doesn't end with just killing her father. Meryn Trant puts on the hurt and Sandor Clegane is uncommonly solicitous. The guys dab the blood from Sansa's cheek and help to plot our revenge. Chapter Review: Sansa is unwashed and ignored in her chambers in King's Landing. She's not eating and bouncing between awful dreams of her father's death and the awful reality of it. She feels utterly betrayed having kept her side of every bargain. Joffrey tells her to get up and Meryn Trant gives her something to cry about. She steels her resolve and attends Joffrey at court. He's his usual self. Bored and inconsiderate punctuated by bouts of being engaged but vile. After he takes his leave, he demands Sansa join him. The Hound encourages her compliance - but kind of nicely. Joffrey's outing is to see the heads on spikes, including Ned and Septa Mordane. He knows how to show a girl a good time. Sansa gives Joffrey some sass and Meryn Trant beats her bloody again. Sansa toys with the notion of pushing Joffrey off the battlements, but as her thought crystallizes into action Clegane interposes and gently dabs the blood from her lips. She thanks him and a weird alliance is cemented. Characters/Places/Names/Events: King Joffrey Baratheon - bastard son of Jaime Lannister and his twin sister Queen Cersei Lannister. Currently King Joffrey Baratheon First of His Name. Queen Cersei Lannister - Widow of King Robert Baratheon, twin sister of Ser Jamie Lannister. Mother of King Joffrey Baratheon. Janos Slynt - Commander of the City Watch (AKA Gold Cloaks), the police force of King's Landing. Now elevated to Lord of Harrenhal and given a seat on the Small Council. Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish - Master of Coin, member of the Small Council, and childhood friend to Catelyn Tully. Grand Maester Pycelle - Elderly grand maester of the Seven Kingdoms. Member of the king's Small Council. Lord Varys - The Spider. Eunuch and Master of Whispers. Sansa Stark - Eldest daughter of Lord Eddard Stark and Catelyn Tully. Betrothed to Joffrey Baratheon. Eddard "Ned" Stark - Now deceased former Hand of the King, Lord of Winterfell, and father of Sansa. Ser Meryn Trant - Member of the Kingsguard in King's Landing. Sandor Clegane - The Hound. The Cast Beyond the Wall: A House of the Dragon Podcast

Season 5 of Game of Thrones came to a close with the season finale, Mother's Mercy. The Cast Beyond the Wall is here to discuss what amounted to one of the most action-packed episodes of the entire series. Following the ultimate sacrifice of Shireen, Stannis prepared to attack Winterfell. In what had been prophecized as his defining moment, everything Stannis had killed for crumbled in mere moments. After being crushed by the Bolton army, Stannis fled into the woods where he would finally encounter the fan favorite Brienne of Tarth. We discuss the storyline that has been building to this moment for years. Despite the slow build up, it looks like we'll have to wait just a little bit longer to learn the fate of the fallen Baratheon. Our final trip to King's Landing this year took us to an unusual place as we finally felt sympathy for Cersei Baratheon as she "atoned" for her sins by making the demoralizing walk of shame to the Red Keep. Cersei is easily one of more villainess characters on the show, but watching the long walk was one of the most difficult scenes any of us had to sit through. We talk about her arc this season so far and whether or not her lowest moment could send her out to find redemption. Across the sea in Bravvos, Arya finally got some much-needed traction to what has been one of her more uneventful stories. After crossing the despised Meryn Trant off of her death list, we try to make sense of seemingly omniscient powers of the Faceless Men. We also head back to Mereen where Tyrion, Jorah, and Daario make plans to find Danerys back to the city.  Game of Thrones left us on an especially distressing note as Jon Snow seems to have met a cruel fate at the hands of his own men of the Night's Watch. It may seem like a pretty definitely period to what has been a notably bleak season, but we all tune in with our own thoughts and theories about the ultimate fate of the famed bastard of Winterfell.

In this season finale on Game of Thrones, entitled "Mother's Mercy" we saw several characters die. Some deaths made us happy (Meryn Trant, Stannis Baratheon, Myranda) others not so much (Jon Snow, Myrcella Baratheon). The high sparrow showed us what his idea of atonement and the mothers mercy is. Frankenstein has joined the kingsgaurd. Arya Stark has suddenly gone blind. One of the biggest cliff hangers of the episode is the fate of Daenerys Targaryen. Do the Dothraki know who she is, do they know about her dragons, do they intend to do her harm? We wont find out until season six, but until then, lets discuss it. We will have a season recap, and discuss anything that we may want to add on from previous episodes. If you want to get in on the discussion, send your feedback to watchthethrone@theverdictsin.com Thank you for listening.

Just when you didn't think Game of Thrones could get any better than a white walker army, we get Daenerys Targarian mounting Drogon to round out an epic battle in the Merenese arena. The Cast Beyond the Wall is back to talk about the rise of Daenerys Targaryen and the fall of Stannis Baratheon in this week's episode, The Dance of Dragons. The Sons of the Harpy finally made another move against Daenerys as they upended the tournament in the fighting pits and began killing everyone including the despised Hizdahr zo Loraq. After being banished twice and killing a few men in the process, it looks like Jorah has finally won back Dany trust after chucking the so called spear of destiny one of her assassins. Arya's storyline continues to crawl to a climax as she has a run in with Meryn Trant when he arrives in Braavos with Mace Tyrell. Her season arc has been promising, but is really lacking the progress or urgency of some of her past story lines. Daniel and I get into a heated discussion whether or not we've like the slower pace. Dorne continues to be one of the absolute worst side treks in the history of the show and we spend a few minutes trying to figure out exactly what went wrong with our favorite Lannister/Bronn pairing. After a season of building our trust by aligning himself with Jon Snow and promising justice in the North, Stannis finally crossed the point of no return when he decided to burn his daughter. We've never been the biggest Stannis the Mannis fans on the podcast, but we discuss the high hopes we had for him before took a nosedive into desperation.  This was an episode of the highest of highs and lowest of lows and we try to lay our final verdict on the seasons infamous episode 9. Where does it fall in comparison to the earlier seasons? Tune in to find out! Gary and Nicole discuss the latest Game of Thrones episode "The Dance of Dragons". We go over our likes and dislikes, the WTF moments...and the "I saw that coming" moments. Prince Doran agreeing to let Myrcella and Trystane go back to Kings Landing with Jaime came as a surprise. We all knew Arya was not ready to be no one, and now that we see how sick Meryn Trant is, we probably dont want her to become no one just yet. We were split on Stannis, be both agreed he is a pathetic, worthless, nothing of a human being, but one one of us were surprised that he killed his own daughter, while the other was not. The biggest moment of the episode came at the end, watching Daenerys Targaryen ride her dragon out of the Great Games Pit like a boss. Her and Tyrion continue to inspire and amaze us. Not to mention, a series that shows so many woman in helpless and horirble situations, it was good to see one who is taking charge of things.    We only have one episode left, and we are sure it will go out with a bang as it always does. Make sure you send your feeback, questions and comments to watchthethrone@theverdictsin.com. We appreicate you guys listening to us as well. We know there are 50 other GoT podcast out there, all of which have been doing it much longer than us, and we appreciate everyone of you for listening.  Thank you
